Looool their self wash! Bonding time with my baby. Great products. Always greeted with a smile. Their grooming is amazing too. I love how Mike bonds with your doggie almost immediately. My girl loves him.

This place is great! Mike is such a good groomer and it is 100% completely obvious that he loves the dogs! I have a 13-​year-​old dog who has hated going to the groomer since she was a puppy! She comes out of here calm and happy. It is just amazing. I highly recommend giving this place a try. I’m sure you will be as please as I am! I am sitting here right now in the parking lot watching my dog getting her groom and she seems calmer than I’ve ever seen her at any groomer. She comes out of here so clean and her hairdo is perfect. I have been using groomers for 40 years and I can say that this place is the best! Also I can’t wait to give the «wash your own dog» section a try in between full grooms. There are all kinds of product to use and nice towels and the tubs lower for big dogs so that means no struggling to get them into the tub! I think you and your dog will love this place!

I have been to Pure Grooming several times now. I have two cats. One just gets a bath with nail trim, ear cleaning and trimming, and gland expression. The other gets a full groom with a lion’s cut. They do a fantastic job. They are very nice there (they clearly love animals) and don’t even complain about my cats! (And the one MUST give them a hard time.)
I would highly recommend them!

First time taking our rag doll to this place. I chose it based on Unilocal reviews, and I’m so happy those were accurate! Great people and great customer service. We will continue to bring out kitty to Michael.

I have a short haired dachshund, so I haven’t had the need for an amazing groomer, but after his disk surgery, I wasn’t comfortable taking him to Petco. Petco has a $ 25 deal called the Pawdicure Plus which includes nail clipping, ear cleaning and teeth brushing. Since it is a short service, they allow walk-​ins for it, which I like. Though they have always done a fine job and have been friendly, I do feel as though they are a bit rough with the animals in order to get them in and out quick. Two months post surgery and now considered a senior dog, my pup is a bit fragile so I wanted to go to more of a «homey» shop.
I noticed the Pure Grooming sign while going to Starbucks and decided to give them a call. The woman on the phone informed me that they do in fact have a similar package called The Healthy Pet Package for $ 27, which includes everything that the Pawdicure Plus does as well as a 15 minute hair brushing. Even better is that they too, accept walk ins. I informed her of my dog’s surgery and she assured me that the groomers are very kind and having worked with dogs of all ages and health statuses.
I took him in the following weekend and was greeted by two men working, who were both very outgoing and friendly. They took my dog right away and had no problem using only his harness and not the usual collar as he cannot wear those anymore due to the surgery. It was fast and painless. This will be my regular groomer as long as I am in the area!

I have a six toed (polydactyl) cat. I used to trim her claws (she hates it) but cut them too short once and hurt her :-(now I’m afraid to do it and they grow thick and curly. My vet charges $ 20 to do them and is about half an hour away. (I don’t know who is more traumatized, her or me!)
Enter this place.
A guy from Petco referred me since Petco doesn’t do cats. This place has great reviews and Sarah answered my email inquiry right away, saying yes, they could cut her nails, and no it wasn’t $ 20. :-).
I called before I went over to save us from waiting.
Mike is awesome. Loves animals. Very matter of fact. She was all set in five minutes and he noticed her fur was unkempt. Suggested a bath sometime. She’s a weird cat who’s a picky eater and too thin. He told me about his appetite enhancer stuff so I bought a bottle and will try it this week.
I’m bringing her back once a month! Highly recommend!
Update — 6÷1÷16 Sadly my cat had to be put down yesterday due to a latent kidney issue. :(

Great service for a great price!
We had to get our pooch groomed and ready for our wedding on Sunday, and luckily they were able to squeeze her in Saturday morning! AND they were able to cut her nails, which is a big plus for us because her last groomer said they couldn’t because she put up a fight. With that being said, we will definitely be coming back!

Used self-​service side of the shop. Mike was helpful, polite, and knowledgable. Showed me specifically how everything worked and what might be different than with other dog washes. Great with my dog, equally great with other owners and their humans that came in while I was there. Will definitely revisit.

Michael is great with our Main Coon cat Jack. Jack actually enjoys his grooming with Michael. If I were to brush out Jack like Michael, I would be in shreds! Very kind people who obviously love our fury family members. Great place!

My little Yorkie (5 lbs so very little) looked absolutely adorable after her most recent grooming. It was a near perfect puppy cut and she was soo soft. This was a birthday treat for her but for me too!!! And Mike the owner is the nicest guy ever. I would not hesitate to recommend Pure Grooming.

I just recently adopted a four pound chi/​papillon mix and she is adorable. I’m a hairdresser, so you think I might be able to work my way around a pair of scissors. But when it comes to my pup, I had no idea where to start. I often go to the Starbucks in the same complex and noticed when Pure Grooming moved in. I called a few places but didn’t really get the vibe I wanted til I called them. They made me an appt the next day. I didn’t need much, just a clean up and some nail trimming. I had no idea if she’d be nice or not, but Mike was so awesome with her from the get go, I had no problem leaving her in his care. When I picked her up she looked great. Smelled wonderful, and he even put in a complimentary feather extension!!! Amazing. I will most definitely be back. I’m happy, dog is happy, husband not so much with feather, but he just doesn’t get fashion! Lol. I’m so happy I found a good place for my pup that’s so close to home!

I highly recommend using Pure Grooming. Michael does a terrific job. He used to groom my dog Koa at Petco and I am so happy to have found him again! He is the only one who has been able to get her cut right and her coat was also super soft. It is clear they use high quality products. He is also great keeping the dogs happy and comfortable (he also clipped my other dogs nails) despite the fact that they don’t like being groomed. Will definitely be back!

I had both my dogs serviced there!!! Amazing job, and the guy was really really nice and friendly. The place was very clean! I will definitely going back!!! Sasha and Sookie are very please as well.

These people are really awesome! Before I found this place, I had been searching and calling a bunch of pet grooming shops to help me wash a newly adopted cat on a Tuesday evening. The reason i needed the cat washed on a specific tuesday evening is a long story. I’ve called probably close to 20 shops. When these guys said yes, a gigantic weight came off my shoulders. Since this was a newly adopted cat, I had no idea how he was going to tolerate a bath. But these people were very nice and after the grooming was done, they were very honest as to what they had to do. I noticed they worked overtime on my cat, since they called me close to an hour after their closing time to pick up my cat. My new cat was nice, clean, and appeared calm. I would definitely bring my pets back here again.

Awesome westie groomer! Tilly got so many compliments on how beautiful she is!!! I highly recommend these guys! Mike took his time with me asking me how I wanted Tilly to look and showed me all the options they had to choose from! I will defiantly be recommending this place to friends and family looking for a groomer! See you guys in 2 months for Tilly’s touch up!!!

AWESOME! Everyone is so friendly, caring and helpful. Mike got down on the floor to meet my dogs. He was great with my rescue who is scared of men! My dogs are happy. I’m happy. We’ll definitely be back, even though we live 25 miles away! So thankful I was referred here!

Walked in without an appointment and received great service. Mike did an amazing job with both my furry babies. I know one of my babies is hard to handle yet he has always been extremely patient with him. He truly cares for all the doggies. If my babies need a bath I only go to him. I really recommend this place.

I am glad I found Mike and his establishment. He did a really nice job for my shin tzu. My dog and I are both very happy with the result. Thanks mike. We now look forward to going to the groomers instead of dreading it.

Mike is an amazing groomer and he’s genuinely earned every one of these 5 stars. He’s patient and kind with the animals, which really helps with the anxious ones. He also has a real interest in pet nutrition and his suggestions are super helpful if your pet suffers from skin or coat conditions. Make Mike your go-​to groomer, you won’t be sorry and neither will your pet.

Mike is an amazing grooming artist. My dog always looks so darn cute when Mike is finished. He is very gentle and tends to all of her needs.

Outstanding! We have a collie and a sheltie, so needless to say, they can be a groomers nightmare. Mike was extremely knowledgable and absolutely wonderful. Our pups came out absolutely gorgeous! We will definitely be back. So happy to have found this awesome gem!

I never give 5 stars. So you know that PURE grooming is outstanding. Mike was amazing with my cat who is not very good with grooming. I used a coupon off of Unilocal after looking at the rave reviews. I am new to San Diego and did not know where to take her.
Everyone of these reviews are true. He was patient, kind, not pushy, knowledgeable and did an amazing job. Everything you could ask for in a groomer. You can trust Mike to be kind to your cat or dog and do an amazing job.

Mike was great– We (my fur baby and I) were first time customers and Mike put my little darlin right at ease. I also got a nice discount on the full spa package sine we were first timers. We will be back.

Awesome new groomers in contemporary strip mall near the 15 and Poway road. Mike was very gentle with my shih tzu and gave him a great cut and well needed bath with all the extras including a blueberry facial. We traveled from Ramona and we will definitely return.

I have to say, Mike is the best! He’s knowledgeable, honest and really cares about your four legged baby.
I made an appointment for full service groom for our golden retriever and when Mike saw her, he made a couple recommendations. He wasn’t pushy or persistent, but explained why he recommended a few things. He was upfront about the cost so we knew what to expect.
After a couple hours we picked up our girl and she had one of the better cuts we’ve seen! What I loved most is how she felt at home. There are no crates, this place is open, inviting and our girl felt right at home. Pure Grooming is our new place for her.

I used to take my dog to Petco in Poway and Mike was a groomer there. I was happy to see he was the owner when I first came across his shop. He is so kind with my dog, very personable and does a great job every time. On top of all that I love that he uses all-​natural products. The price is comparable to Petco too, but much quieter and a calm atmosphere. We’ll be back!

Mike knows his stuff. I worked in groom shops as a bather and retail for most of my late teens and twenties, so I usually take care of grooming my dogs and cats myself but now I’m busy and own a shih tzu, so I take her to Mike at Pure Grooming because I trust him to do a great job! Also, please tip your groomers and if you’re unhappy with an aspect of the grooming, mention it before you take your pet home. Most things can be remedied with a bit more communication :-).

The absolute BEST experience I have had with a groomer (and my dog is 9 years old and has had a LOT of haircuts; she’s a cocker spaniel with tons of hair). I can’t say enough wonderful things about Mike. You can tell he knows a ton about animals and has a true passion for working with animals. And he was so sweet with my dog. He talked to her and made her feel right at home, literally. I will definitely be a forever client. So impressed!!!

Mike is the best! You can tell he has a genuine passion for taking care of animals & I feel like he treated our cat like his own. Mike came to our home, set up all his gear in the garage, & about 40 minutes later my cat had a beautiful lion cut & all her nails were trimmed! Mike is very professional & friendly… we will be calling him again for for sure!

I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new groomer for my fur baby. I looked into many of the local groomers and I read through a lot of the reviews and said to my husband let’s try Pure Grooming.
It was quite simple I made an appointment online and during your first «new customer» visit you get a small discount on the service package. We got the full service groom and Got a confirmation/​reminder email of the appointment.
I have a little 12 pound mutt and I always get so nervous taking him to the groomers because he always gets so crazy around other dogs so it was nice to have them do the grooming in my home. I am so weird about having strangers in my home but when meeting Mike for the first time he was very friendly and professional and just seeing the way he handled and spoke to my dog Hiro I was very happy and grateful! I told him how I wanted the haircut and he had some suggestions and by the end of the appointment Hiro loved Mike and I was so happy with the whole service! Mike sprayed Hiro with a blueberry dog cologne and it smelled so good! I just wanted to smell my dog repeatedly!
I LOVED Pure Grooming. I found the one. Yes! I Do! Haha! I am excited for their shop to open. Definitely recommend others to give Pure Grooming a try! I was not disappointed.

My dog is a real beast. I went to Pure Grooming and explained that they were going to have their hands full. I was surprised when they handled him with no problems. Best dog groomers ever.

We have a cat with no fangs, no front claws (she was like that when we rescued her), but spits and hisses like a snake. She’s full of vinegar and energy. Sadly, she has also been developing clumps in her long fur for the past two summers. Last summer we took her to a big-​name chain to have her shaved. There are not very many groomers out there who are willing to work with cats, front claws and fangs or not. This big-​name chain was all I could find.
Having nothing to compare their work with, after the deed was done, apart from the laughing fit I had when first seeing her so pitiful without that proud tortoiseshell fur, I figured they’d probably done the best job they could do with a cat. I know it took two of them to do it, I know they had her harnessed on the table, one held her still, the other one wielded the shaver. I didn’t raise a fuss when I noticed there were two areas where they’d obviously gotten too close to the skin and nicked her in small areas, I didn’t complain that the fur around her head, tail, and legs, which they’d left long (no clumps there) was very crookedly cropped. I paid the rate and even left a tip, thinking, Wow, they were able to shave a CAT. Brave things they are!
This year, when the same snarky hissy feline (we do love her, really) began developing clumps in her fur, this time we are in a different state (having moved back from Arizona a few months ago) and had to make at least 7 phone calls and put out an APB on Facebook to find a groomer who would work with cats. No one — and I repeat, NO ONE — is willing to work on cats when it comes to grooming.
As it happened, we actually met Mike Hellum of Pure Grooming at the DMV in Poway. I called his number, he answered, and when the loudspeaker announced «NOW SERVING NUMBER G112» we both realized we were in the same hell. So he flagged me down and we talked, he seemed very confident in his abilities and extremely nice. Plus, he is MOBILE. Bonus! I made an appointment for the next day.
Mike showed up punctually at our house, set up his equipment, and went about the business of grooming cats. I lobbed a last-​minute assignment at him: to trim the claws of our other cat before commencing the ultimate shave job on the snake. No problem. He got the first skitzy afraid-of-anything-and-everything-just-let-me-army-crawl-under-the-covers-until-he’s-gone cat and clip-​clip-​clip — had his nails trimmed before any of us even knew what was happening. Including the cat.
That done, he took Ms. Clumpy out of her carrier and delicately harnessed her. She was spittin’ mad. What’s really funny, and a little pitiful about it is that she can strike like a snake, but all that happens is a little spit on your arm (or whatever body part she’s aiming for) due to no fangs. And when she tries to claw, it’s like she’s hitting you with cotton balls. We’ve learned there’s no bite to her threats, and we’d forgotten how quick reflexes need to be to avoid her. Mike’s reflexes are lightning fast! Needlessly so, in this case, but entertaining to watch, nonetheless. :-)
He began running the clippers over her, handling her with an ease and expert manner of someone who’s grown up doing this. He talked to her, handled her gently, she put up a big hissing fight at first, and then became resigned to her fate. She tried to jump off the table twice, but only succeeded in swinging in the harness (no choking — it wasn’t an around-​the-​neck deal, it was around her chest). He took his time and did an excellent job. EXCELLENT.
And now that I have something to compare it to, I know the people at that big-​name chain did a LOUSY job last year. Mike was patient, meticulous, her coat is evenly shaved around her head, legs, and tail. She still looks a bit ridiculous, but it’s a beautiful grooming job. Not a single cut on her skin. He cleaned out her ears, treated her with some sort of leave-​in shampoo (?) to help with the dandruff, and even gave her some kitty treats when it was all done.
She stalked off pretty mad when he let her out of the harness, but she got over it quickly.
The upshot: MIKE IS A CAT WHISPERER. haha! He’s the best, honestly. I would absolutely recommend his service to anyone seeking to have a pet groomed, dog or cat. Maybe he works on birds, who knows? He’s at ease around animals, and his professionalism and confidence with his abilities positively shines. Animals can sense when someone is afraid or not comfortable, and it makes them anxious. No worries here at all.
Plus, he cleaned up all the fur, leaving the room looking like he’d never been here. Can’t say the same about the cat. :-)

Mike is totally amazing and I will NOT change groomers again, I found the one! He has all the patience in the world! I have a severely nervous Toy Poodle that just absolutely dislikes being touched or handled by anyone, including us at times. Well my little guy was sitting on Mike’s lap and kissing him like he was his best buddy, AMAZING! He also did my Schnauzer and my little Mutt that had never been groomed. They turned out beautifully and right in my own home, no need to drive and no need to worry about how they were being handled at some grooming shop. His prices are extremely reasonable and I have signed up for a routine trim and light clean up every 3 weeks. 10 stars and fully endorse Mike and Pure Grooming!
