Pete and his crew are the best. We called them when we got an eye-​popping water bill and were sure that our watering system was at fault, but couldn’t figure out how or why. He came out, found and fixed all the leaks, and installed a solar sync system that regulates the watering according to the weather, a wonderful device. Our next water bill showed we had used 40% less water after he fixed the system and installed the device. Can’t say enough good things about these folks.

Working with Pete has been a really great experience. There are many reasons why you would want to use EcoGardeners for your gardening and landscaping needs, but here are a few things that stand out for me:
1. Pete actually knows a lot about plants, trees, flowers, essentially anything for your garden. He’s very knowledgeable and you can trust his opinion. He knows what will grow best in certain locations, what will look best, and how to save money buying and maintaining your garden.
2. Pete and his team take pride in their work, they really are perfectionists when it comes to detail and doing the job right. I remember Pete taking out a tape measure to ensure the planters he helped me buy were located within perfect dimensions so they would look the best aesthetically — he really cares about every detail.
3. Talking to Pete on a few occasions, I could easily see he loves what he does, being hands on with gardening and landscaping. He took the time to meet with me on his off time during the weekend simply because he enjoys his work, so it’s no surprise he’s also very good at it!
4. In terms of landscaping, he actually provided me better landscaping ideas than full service landscaping companies that I contacted. His designs are visionary, and I fully trust him with my garden.
5. He’ll actively look to save you money where it makes sense. While working on my property, he saved me $ 2,000 in buying planters by actively seeking out various alternatives, all on his own time. I didn’t expect that level of commitment, so I have to say I am impressed.
You can’t go wrong with EcoGardeners if you’re in their area of service!

I moved into a home with a large yard equipped with an irrigation system and was clueless how to operate or maintain it. Pete came over and took the time to go through the whole system item by item and taught my wife and I how to operate it. He even taught us about ways to save water and referred us to a fruit tree specialist that could help optimize what we already had. Looking forward to working together in the future!

Pete and his team are absolutely awesome. I’m sure I could find another gardener to do work a little more cheaply, but my lawn, trees and plants have never looked happier in their lives.
Pete has gone out of his way to make my home a beautiful place to live on the exterior, and has gone through even greater lengths to help me find raw wood materials for an art project when he didn’t have an obligation to do so.

I recently hired EcoGardeners and have dealt with Peter Abernathy. Upon our initial meeting we talked about many plants in my yard that were not doing well. He told me that he could test the soil and we have been slowing replacing and filling in with new plants. His knowledge and expertise of what plants will thrive in what location is a breath of fresh air in my experience with previous gardeners. I too have applied to the city for the computer to adjust my water use, at Peter’s suggestion. I also appreciate the eco-​friendly equipment that eliminates fumes and noise. Pete Abernathy has been taking care of my yard for over a year now. He was recommended to me by Brian Best of Garden Spirit who had landscaped my yard with all drought tolerant plants. The reason Brian and Pete are so simpatico is because they both believe in keeping things organic and natural.
The first thing Pete did was apply to the city to get me a system that utilizes a computer to track and adjust my yard’s watering needs. He even followed up by getting me a rebate that paid for the entire system. As a result, my water usage has decreased even more dramatically than by just getting rid of the lawn.
The next thing Pete did was introduce me to a system that automatically adds a liquid fertilizer each time my yard is watered. Although the system cost me a bit of money, it was well worth it. My plants have thrived. After spending a good deal on all of the planting, I wanted to be sure everything was given as much care as possible.
Another plus about Ecogardeners, which I hadn’t really appreciated until noticing all of my neighbors’ gardeners, was the complete lack of noise from mowers, weed-​whackers, and blowers. Pete doesn’t use any of these abhorrent apparatuses. There is no deafening din, no noxious gas vapors… just the soothing sound of silence.
As if all of this weren’t enough, if Pete has cuttings he brings them to fill in any gaps which might occur when a plant inevitably dies.
I consider myself very fortunate to have found Ecogardeners.

A year ago we moved into our new home. We have several flower beds and they were in need of some TLC. Our sprinklers were also keeping our lawn soaking wet all of the time. We hired EcoGardners and they have taken care of everything! We now have amazingly green grass that I don’t mind our small children playing on because we know that harmful chemicals and practices are not used to keep it soft and green. He helped us install a smart water system to conserve water on the grass. He even took care of the city rebate that was available! Last year we had him plant a succulent garden in a non watered area of the yard. Our children loved helping Peter plant everything. He is always patient with their questions and inquiries and teaches them as he goes. This past weekend we did a major overhaul of the sprinkler heads to make them more efficient and get water to the correct areas. We also planted a garden with his help and oversight! He helps us maintain our compost bin. I could not be more thrilled with the level of service, hard work, professionalism and teaching nature of Ecogardeners. Sure, you will pay more for this service. You get what you pay for: a Chemical free lawn, No loud buzz of blowers (he sweeps everything), you will be listened to, all of your issues and concerns will be addressed and your yard/​flowers/​garden will flourish! The outstanding service is unbeatable!

EcoGardeners are the absolute top notch in yard care. They are incredibly knowledgeable and truly care about their clients, homes and gardens. Both Pete and Jim are very professional, excellent communicators who respond immediately to phone calls and emails. Both are very well educated about plants and their health. EcoGardeners have been «caring» for my yard now for 9 months and I have had nothing less than a positive, enjoyable experience learning from them and watching my yard transform into a healthy, well maintained landscape. My interaction with this company is a negative one. First of all they are only interested in servicing clients who are looking for Weekly service. I stated in my email to the owner I was looking for 1−2x a month and provided the area in which we live. Without saying this directly. The owner went onto saying they did not service my area as I was out of their service area.
Not only are we in their service area we live 2.7 miles from the business. We are basically in the same neighborhood.
This to me was being very dishonest, and would not recommend such a business who is not forthright.

We have been searching for reliable, reasonably-​priced gardeners to help us continue to evolve our landscaping into more environmentally friendly, easy-​to-​maintain, and low-​water usage designs, without breaking the bank. We wanted someone who understood plants and weeds and would be trustworthy and prompt.
Luckily, one day, a calling card advertising a new team in town – Ecogardeners of San Diego, arrived at our doorstep. This new team in town are a small company who do all their own work. They don’t just present one face to sell and another to work. These hardworking guys are in business to work with their customers in arriving at a reasonable plan of action to create a beautiful exterior space in a way least damaging to your budget or the environment. They provide full-​service gardening, including evaluation and repair of irrigation systems, weed and green trash removal, (once they get your system in ship-​shape, you provide your own green trash cans for city removal bi-​weekly), SWEEPING away of debris (a lost art that ought to be made mandatory in San Diego in order to reduce air and noise pollution), maintenance of plants, new plantings and overalll landscape design.
We’d tried various services in the past and either they have been too expensive, or have not addressed the concerns we had to develop a system that can be maintained without too much of a negative impact on the down-​stream water systems or on our own ears – hate those leaf blowing folks who can’t seem to lift a broom and who blow all the debris into their neighbors yards and ears!
If you want someone you can trust your garden to, these guys are THE BEST. Pleasant to work with, communicative, they get the job done. And I mean DONE! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
