Elite Party: Taste and Thirst on Fourth

Wow! I love it that a reminder popped up on the right side of my Unilocal homepage reminding me to do this review. Apparently this is new because I never saw it before. Thanks Unilocal!
From the photos that were taken and from what I remember I had a great time. I liked the layout here because it was easy to get around and the bar area was huge. Everyone knows how Unilocalers enjoy the bar area!!! Also, I remember the staff being welcoming and friendly. Even when Unilocalers were crowded around almost pushing one another aside for the next drink, the bartenders were still smiling.
Once again this Unilocal event rates 5 big shiny stars.
Oh and I remember being so excited to see some Unilocalers I hadn’t seen in awhile (Tanya and Mae)
A HUGE WOOHOO for TASTE and THIRST on Fourth

I’m a tad late on this review, but it was fun! There was a buffet style bar set up with self serve salad/​fruit, buffalo wings, ham and cheese wraps, and fries. The truffle fries were great. If only we were patient enough to wait for them to be put out rather than ordering our own plate. The Rock Band was blasting too. Next time, Danny will need his own Unilocal megaphone to get everyone’s attention.

Went as Wilmar D.‘s +1 — my elite status didn’t arrive in time. Good drinks, fun with Guitar Hero, lots of people.
Truffle fries. Wow. I think I have to go back just for those.

Hey hey heyyy! I know I am late on this review but I think my crazy night here kicked off my lack of immune system power and I have been down with the flu since Friday! Boo.
My ass was firmly planted on a couch most of the night, which is a LEAP from the last couple of parties that had limited seating options. Most happy about this, because I didn’t have to go the chin/​elbow/​armpit cup and plate shuffle to eat and drink.
Met some awesome people, including Monica and her bodacious blonde plus 1. Also had the pleasure of meeting Rodney, who put on a great party alongside Danny and was super cool to boot! I will be back to say hello to that ROCKIN BEARD!
What I could eat of the food was tasty. And those U4Rick and tonics had me feeling great.
One suggestion… get some fish in that huge fish tank of yours! I counted 4, and they were all the size of Nemo in a 200 gallon tank.

My friends told me I was having a good time. I’ll take their word.
I have to. I barely remember anything.

It’s maybe been about a year since I’ve attended an elite event. My newish job is cramping my Unilocal style but it’s great to see old friends.
I miss you guys! (Mae, Lucas, Tony, Jay, Kirsten, Alisa, Mace, Steph B, Lyn, Albert, Ferdi, Tina C, Amy, Mireya, Mike, Steph S, Nick, Todd, Melissa, and Nico). I hope to back in the mix more often so I can see my old Unilocaler buddies and make some new Unilocaler friends.

— The veggies, chips, fries, chicken wings, and wraps were all really good.

— It was hard to hear the Rockband game above the hustle and bustle. Also, Danny W. needs a megaphone!
— The cape cods tasted funny… maybe it’s the cranberry juice they use.

— Food was much better here than syrah… hello. Garlic Fries. Veggie Sticks. Hot Wangs. Chicken Wraps. Chips and Salsa.
— Drinks were free flowing, awesome staff of barkeeps and service chicks, and the Free Shots ~ throw ya cups up ~ at the end of the night toast was pretty cool.
— Wii Rental provided the Rockness ~ Guitar Hero WT and RockBand 2
— Unilocal gave away Street Scene Tix

but Danny needs his own megafone fa sho… maybe we all chip in and buy him a nice girly one… pink with hannah montana and high school musical on it… glitter and tassles and shit… ha.

This was my first trip to Taste and Thirst– I have heard so much about it and walked by a few times, so I was glad this was the next place for the Unilocal Elite event. I loved the Rock Band theme and getting everyone to dress up is always a good time in my book!
It was a cool venue that had a good layout– seating is always key with these types of events especially when it gets super crowded and you want to feed your face with having your drink nearby. I like how it was broken into two rooms and also the small outside patio It was hot!
The little buffet line was a good idea– every time I passed through it seemed like there was something new– I can never say no to chips and salsa and of course the garlic fries were a crowd favorite if you got there in time.
Thanks to U4RIK vodka for being the lone alcohol sponsor for the night– the bartenders were working hard all night to keep up with all the mixed drinks. And of course– the $ 2.75 Widmers– woohoo! It was a great way to end the night by the owner giving everyone shots on the house. I would think by then he would be done with all the Unilocalers but it was a great gesture! The wait staff was great too– very on top of things!
Sadly, I was not a Street Scene winner or the Wii Resort giveaway– I didn’t even know the raffle was going on since I was in the other room. I also agree we need to get Danny a nice new shiny bullhorn since it helps so much in loud places!
Congrats Danny on surviving event #1– I know it is a lot of work to get it all together! Good Job!

I must have stepped right out of a rock video from the ‘80s because apparently my outfit of choice (a Pink Floyd tee sliced to perfection by yours truly with a hot pink tank underneath and matching pink stilettos) warranted a random chick’s hollering «Girl go on wit yo’ bad self!!!» as I walked down 4^th Ave in downtown…
Sadly I did not hear my name when they were announcing the winners of the Street Scene tix, as I did not win.
On the flip side I dragged myself into work today, opened my email and discovered that I am the lucky winner of my very own copy of Wii Sports Resort Game… Hate on that bitches! HA HA HA I kid, I kid.
Good finger foods. The veggies and fruit were fresh and tasty and the garlic fries were incredible! I couldn’t help but have a few… Grape Vocka was delish as well! I can’t quite figure out where these mystical wraps were located because sadly I did not see any…

Planned to go last minute so I scrounged around for a band shirt to throw on. All I found was my old WU-​Tang Clan threads which I’ve probably only wore once or twice. I figure it’ll work. Plus, «Wu-​Tang Clan Ain’t Nuttin Ta F’ Wit!!»
Brought along Rastafari Ace D as my +1 biznatch (gotcha back homie)!! His busted out some dreads and a reggae shirt in honor of his late friend Kenny. Think his friend was grateful because he ended up winning some Street Scene tix for his getup! He was watching down on you today brotha!
Being my first time to a Unilocal shindig, I felt everyone was pretty welcoming. Cool to see the real peeps from the reviews I FUC so much. Also, the bar staff was on point and our waitress was HOT!!! Felt like I was at a hip version of Hooters. (*checks to see if wife is hovering over shoulder).
Well, the place is called Taste and Thirst on Fourth so here’s the deal:
The Tasty: Good amounts of finger food. Fruits, Veggies, Chips and Salsa, Wraps and Garlic Fries. Well stocked and just enough to soak some of the alcoholic consumption during the night. No complaints really because it was FREE!
The Thirsty: Drinks were good. Well balanced with the mixes. Bartenders were quick as they could be and waitresses were just as fast. Having a drink in hand the entire night was never a problem. I took advantage of the complimentary Vodka drinks too. Thanks Unilocal!
What can I say? I got toasty off the drinks, had a great time, and didn’t spend much CASH. It’s always good to save a «dollar, dollar bill y’all!»

The place was packed, the food was good, and everyone had a great time! Or, at least, that’s what I heard/​read…
Oh, by the way, you might be asking «where’s the 5^th STAR?» Well, he stayed home & woke up this writing this review. I wish I was there with y’all.

This is not to review of the night’s festivities but my inability to wake up earlier enough to respond to the posting of «this» event online (damn, email notification where were you when I needed you?!) Like many that were unable to get on the list, I had to submit my name on a wait list. Obviously, the chance was highly unlikely I’d be called because of it’s popularity (the place to be)…
In a last ditch effort, I messaged and text my fellow ‘attending’ Unilocalers the morning/​afternoon of… but to no avail. Can I CRASH the party, Jay D. Hahaha, better not! Thanks for the advice. Although, I did get a text from Nico A. minutes before the start of the event mentioning that his +1 was no longer going to attend… If I wasn’t engulfed in my ChickenJoy & Spaghetti dinner @ Jollibee, Plaza Bonita… I’d be there. Then again, I didn’t want to go «plain clothed» to a themed party. Thanks for the consideration, though. Also, by the time I would’ve got dolled up, there’s be little time to enjoy.
Sad to say, in an effort to capture some of the festivities, I played ROCKBAND 2 with a few of my gamer geeks. Drank a few brewskis… Wrote a Hamonix a great review (read it) Then, fell asleep. Not the same, I guess…

We were the first ones to show up and too early to be let in but the staff of Taste and Thirst kept us company.
This place has some of the best staff of any Gaslamp bar that I’ve ever encountered. Even though the place was packed my needs were well attended to. I’m not a huge vodka fan so I decided to pay for beer and guess what? happy hour prices til 8:00. Woo hoo. And my beer was only $ 2.00. And the Widmer was only $ 2.75. You can’t beat those prices. And I was excited to see fruit at an event. The wraps were delicious too. A little kick in the mouth.
It was a kick seeing Stephani behind the bar. You can always count on that girl for stepping things up.
It was great seeing everyone, especially some of you that rarely attend these events (T-​Spoon).
Thanks Danny for the fun time and thanks to all of you who took JCs comment seriously that my shirt had braille on it.

In complete mourning, I wore my Depeche Mode shirt in hopes that their old glory days would bring me up to speed since they had cancelled their show the other Friday night. Quietly, I hoped that Edgartronic would be at the Unilocal Event and we could commiserate our common loss together.
However, I was quickly won over by friends that had camped out in a comfy corner booth, attentive waitresses with freeflowing U4RIK drinks (tips help), and food. WTF was in that ham and cheese wrap?! I think I tasted a chipotle mayo in there? It was damn good.
Mind you, I took a couple breaks from writing this review because I checked Unilocal,Facebook, and SignonSanDiego a few times.
Honestly, I didn’t pay attention to Rock Band since I was mostly caught in the bright flash of camera whoredom in that hallway either stepping up into the bar or stepping down out of the bar.
Thanks Danny! Good job on your first outing! Thanks Hazel from Unilocal OC for always coming out too! By the way Danny, I give you permission to get a megaphone. It’s a tool you just can’t forgo especially with the ADD-​stricken Unilocalers that we are.

U4ric vodka, you gluten-​free freaks have no more excuses! Definitely coming back to this joint for their 7-​day 2 for 1 deals, what’s not to love.
Delicious vodka drinks (and shots) and a decent wine list. Too bad I didn’t score street scene tix this time…

Located at the old Blue Ginger restaurant location, Taste and Thirst on Fourth seems to be sort of a budget fine dining restaurant. I had heard good things about their sub-​$ 10 steak special and definitely want to try it sometime. As this was Danny W.‘s first Unilocal Elite shindig, I was excited to be part of the experience and eagerly waited all day for the clock to strike 6pm so that I could party with the rest of my fellow Unilocalers!
I wasn’t really all that impressed with the food variety, but at least the fruit was fresh and the wraps were pretty good. The U4RIK vodka was pouring all night long and I definitely enjoyed my fair share of it. The owner (I didn’t catch his name) was very generous and bought everybody a shot of something that might have been a U4RIK Cosmo. That was an awesome gesture, to be sure.
Overall, I thought the party was a great success and had an awesome time meeting new friends and seeing old. Danny is going to do a great job as the San Diego community manager and I’m looking forward to all of his future parties! I do have a suggestion though. The first thing to buy with the new Unilocal expense account is definitely going to have to be a Ruggy-​style megaphone!

This was such a fantastic party. Let me see how the stars add up:
1 star for getting 90% on my first-​ever attempt at Rock Band. That’s a solid A-​. Thanks to this party, I’m no longer a Rock Band virgin. Now I feel… mostly the same, except carpal tunnel in my right thumb. Whatever.
A 2^nd star for the wings, and the fries, and the wraps, and the wings, and the veggies, and the wings. Oh, and definitely the wings.
A 3^rd star for some butt-​kickingly delicious vodka drinks. As the evening wore on, I lost count of exactly how many vodka+tonics I had, which is exactly how it should’ve been. While I did feel U4rik at times, I was still sober enough to appreciate the yummy sweetness and fruitiness to the vodka. I think I’ll have another…
A 4^th star for all my favorite Unilocalers, who are even better with cocktail in hand. I won’t name names, but it was lovely seeing you all tonight. A special shout out to the one who wouldn’t stop ‘tooting my sax’, the one who needed to know a little too much about linguistics, and anyone that I could talk science with.
A 5^th star for Danny, who managed his first big party with style and class. Dude, you really owe yourself your own brand-​new bullhorn.
