Embassy Suites by Hilton San Diego Bay Downtown

Very nice property with a great location. Employees go out of their way to provide good service. Unfortunately no on-​site restaurant, (under construction) but many great ones close by. Only downer is the $ 42 parking fee, high even for San Diego.

This is my hotel of choice in downtown San Diego. Each type of room is spacious enough to avoid cabin fever, and the bay view rooms are fantastic. The complimentary even happy hour and morning full breakfast is a great perk as well! On my most recent visit I had reserved a bay view room, and was given a city view room instead. Well you could see the bay, but you had to look around the balcony :(. On the flip side though, they didn’t charge me for the bay view room, so Ill call it a wash. If I were to pick a downside here… it is the parking. The parking here is Valet only @ about $ 50 a night, plus tips. The closest street parking is really a few blocks away when you can get it. That aside, the staff and the hotel are top notch and when they remodeled in house resturaunt is back open it will be an even better destiation.

This hotel was a nightmare for our family event.
So to start, we were in town for my grandmothers funeral, we had 5 rooms in total booked.
the first of our group to arrive got in late Thursday (1÷21÷2016) after getting checked into the hotel and up to the room, none of the keys worked. after 2 separate visits to the front desk (same problem both times) we were finally able to get it in.
Now the second group to arrive, had a similar issue with the key not working.
the next day (Friday 01/​22/​2016), I checked in the next 3 groups, I had requested 3 rooms next to each other, and received 307, 309, 309. when the first group arrived, they got their room just fine. When the next group arrived, their rooms had been switched without telling me.
they were now assigned 2 different rooms on two different floors. Again,… issues with the keys.
after spending some time at the front desk trying to resolve this, the front desk decided to call one of the rooms (with sleeping children) at 8 oclock. then again at 8:30. then again at 9. at which point I had to call down and request to have them stop calling so late. (they wanted to know if my stay was going ok).
onto to Saturday, one of the kids had an accident in the evening and pee’d the bed, we stripped the bed and placed it with the other dirty towels we had, with a note requesting them to please give us some extra sheets as well. When we returned the soild sheets were still in the room, and no new sheets were given. We called down to the front desk and requested additional sheets, and went out to dinner. when we came back, still no sheets. called a 3^rd time finally got some.
a few «good things» the happy hour is always nice, and the breakfast is great for the little ones.
I do wish they offered a restaurant/​bar on site, but Seaport Village is so close it sort of makes up for it.
not a great experience at all, and ive stayed her in the past with much better results, so I will come back to see if they’ve improved, but if I get a similar experience then this is be marked off my list of locations to stay downtown.

Work trip for 1 week, location is wonderful next to the carrier and waterfront. The suites were comfortable and clean, the nightly reception was well organized and the staff was very polite even during the busiest times. Breakfast was average and has all the normal foods. Valet parking is pretty pricy as is expected in San Diego.

Embassy Suites is not a five-​star luxury hotel, but we were very pleasantly surprised with our stay, exceeded our expectations so we’ll give it 5-​stars.
Pros:
* Evening reception each night with an open bar (!!) and free snacks. Had nightly gin and tonics with goodly amounts of G to T. Only three beers on tap, not a great selection, but it’s free, so I cannot complain. Snacks included veggies, chips, dips.
* Free hot breakfast, you can go for the buffet or the made-​to-​order line. Buffet includes eggs, sausage, bacon, pancakes, hash browns, French toast, yogurt, fruit, cereal, bread, coffee/​tea/​etc.
* Front desk personnel were welcoming and helpful.
* In regards to our mattress and pillows… we hadn’t slept this well for months (really comfortable)
* Our room had an outstanding view of the harbor and amazing sunsets!
* Decent hot tub, never had to share with others. It was highly chlorinated (not a bad thing at a hotel).
Cons:
* No lunch or dinner available, but the hotel provides a short list of good delivery restaurants nearby, had great Italian from Little Italy Pizzaria delivered fast to our room.
* $ 46 parking per night is a bit steep, but the front desk did suggest parking at a nearby hotel lot that would cost less, which was pretty cool
* Some cosmetic issues with the room and hotel, but this is not a luxury hotel.
* Fitness room is small but adequate. Selection of dumbbells, benches, treadmills, ellipticals, and a stationary bike.
* Tap water tastes bad, suggest you bring bottled water.

I would give this hotel minus stars but that is not an option. We checked in at 5:30pm, check in was at 4:00 we had two rooms reserved (the rooms were supposed to be together). We were told that we would have to wait several hours until rooms would be ready that would be near each other.
The following day we left to enjoy San Diego. Came back to the hotel around 9:00pm to find our rooms not cleaned. Turned on the TV and the movies that we paid for would not work. When I called the front desk I was told it would be taken care of. 30 minutes later when I called back the person stating that he was a manager laughed.
If you are looking for a hotel that treats their guests like they matter this is not the place for you.
We have been staying here for years, we will not be returning!

Room was clean, breakfast was fine, $ 46 to park is a crime. If wee weren’t in a rush, I would have gladly parked far away to avoid the robbery. Worst thing — we came for the indoor pool and it WASN’T HEATED. Who wants to drive three hours with small children to give them hypothermia?

Pros: Great location, good breakfast and friendly staff.
Cons: $ 46 a night parking/​valet, no self parking, dirty rooms, encountered many rude guests.

I will definitely come back next time I am in San Diego… The front desk clerk was nice she gave us a room on the 12^th floor with the view of the ocean absolutely great! We checked in around 6.30 so we were told there was a complimentary drink and snack. There was wine, beer and cocktails. hummus, carrot… then in the morning there is free breakfast not a huge fun of morning buffet but they do omelet right there for you plus fresh fruit. Really great… it’s a walking distance to the ocean. Parking is expensive so just park your car on the street across the hotel plus you don’t have to move your car at 8or 7 if you park it there. Bring your own water if you don’t want to pay 2 $. There is a separate sitting area with microwave, refrigerator and washing area. Dining table, sofa and TV. I have zero complain about this hotel.

It was probably the worst hotel experience I ever had.

We booked a room for 4 people. At the end there was a couch, which you could use as a bed. Definitely a nightmare, by back still hurts today! Will never be there again.
At the end, only the location was ok. Avoid if you can.
At least they were so nice and gave me parking for free, as I mentioned our very bad experience.

Not sure what has happen to this chain. Used to be great to stay but it’s quality has really gone down hill.
First who has a 4 PM checking after you tell them your there for business, flying in and the room needs to be ready at least by 3 PM?
Second, the room itself… Smoke sector is missing (oh, that’s a major violation), toilet seat slides to the side when you sit, the facia under the bathroom sink is loose and if you bump it falls off. Covers on the fire sprinkler are just hanging there as the same with the plumbing in the shower.
Third, can the HVAC unit make any more noise? So bad we had to turn it off to sleep.
Fourth, paid extra for a room update and the furniture is ratty, and old, and torn.
Other Embassy hotels give you extra’s for being a long time Honors member this one nothing…
Oh, breakfast, soggy hash browns, bacon crumbs, worst looking sausage I have ever seen, over easy eggs had so much grease in them I used it and now my doors don’t squeak.
Others complain about parking, yeah it’s high, but it’s California and you just come to expect that here.

Two stars for the breakfast because it was OK and it was free. We reserved a room for two with two beds. We called the 800 number and they confirmed that there were two beds. Why two stars?
When we checked in the front desk guy told us «I have here single room one king size bed and it says for one person». We told him we are two and that we have confirmed. But it went to deaf ears. Instead of him fixing the problem, he did not nothing. That is why two stars.
Also the room was not that clean. A lot of dust in the some parts of the furniture and then the $ 2.00 for water. What a joke. The machine for refreshments was not working. The ice machine was working.

Was going to give 3 stars but decided to give 4 because of the great location and breakfast.
Located right by the water and less than a mile walk or über ride to nearby attractions like the Gaslamp. Great breakfast, made to order omelettes
Only issue was that I called 3 times asking for 4 robes to be delivered to my suite. Later that night when the robes still had not arrived, I was told they don’t even have robes.

Where do I begin? Forced to pay $ 42 per day for parking. Had to kill bugs as soon as walked in the room. The smell of stale smoke was terrible in this «non smoking» hotel. The carpet was filthy and had damage throughout. Light fixtures falling out of the ceiling, black mold in the shower, the sleeper sofa was very old and torn on all the cushions. At nearly $ 400 per night this is the worst experience I have ever had at any hotel. I have stayed at better $ 30 hotels. I cannot believe The Hilton brand would include such a terrible place. I have photos of all of these items if anyone doubts this. Room 1218.

I am the kind of person who stays at Comfort Inn or Quality Inn on road trips (i.e. I look for nice, dog-​friendly, affordable hotels) so for me Embassy Suites was a palace.
I was on a conference so imagine my surprise to realize that these are actually «suites» not just rooms. My room had a seating area with a couch, table and TV and then a nice bathroom, a separate sink/“bar” area and then the bedroom with a king bed, TV and ocean views. Beautiful. The bed was comfortable, the furnishings were nice and the shower was great.
The hotel itself is about a mile walk from Gaslamp but it’s easily walkable. They have a fitness center, a beautiful indoor pool (which I took advantage of) and a hot tub with an outdoor lounge area. You get free breakfast which is the best hotel breakfast I have ever had – scrambled eggs, hash browns, mini pancakes, fruit, yogurt, juice, coffee, etc. plus a «made to order» station which changes daily so you can customize an omelette, breakfast sandwich, etc. Then, between 5:30 — 7:30pm they serve an open bar with free snacks including chips and salsa and carrot and celery sticks with ranch.
Of course this place is pricey, but if you’re looking for a nice option when seeing San Diego Embassy Suites will not disappoint.

All I have to say is awesome I loved it close to all and the rooms are large with awesome bathroom. Oh oh and Jose in the restaurant is super nice don’t forget to ask for him. He’s funny and nice very attentive. He didn’t even kick us out lol

This place is a joke! They do not have a parking garage and there is no close by street parking so you are forced to pay their ridiculous $ 42/​day valet. What’s the $ 2 for? Why not $ 40 or $ 45? When I asked why it was so expensive — «It’s San Diego, that’s why.» Then the staff suggested that I go to their free cocktail bar and get $ 42 worth of drinks. First of all I don’t drink. Second, what kind of a suggestion is that to go and possibly do harm to myself just to make up for your expensive valet?! There is absolutely no reason to charge that much for Valet! You are huge chain hotel and you already have the space — charge $ 20!
If this is San Diego, how can you have a ripped up couch cushion in your room?! I tried flipping it, but the other side was ripped as well. Please go and buy a new cushion with the $ 84 you ripped off from me for Valet.
Every time we turned on the AC there was a very bad odor coming in.
Last but not least, the «free» breakfast. Can’t really complain about things that are «free,» but if you are going to offer something, do it right! I took one bite of the scrambled eggs and had to spit it out. Same thing with their hash browns, or should I say mashed potatoes.
I will definitely never stay with Embassy Suites again.

I have stayed at many Embassy Suites before. This was my first time to stay at this particular Embassy Suites. Embassy Suites are part of the Hilton hotel chain. They are an all-​suite hotel with an interior open atrium style.
What I really appreciate at all Embassy Suites are the complimentary full breakfasts and the complimentary evening manager’s receptions with open bar including mixed drinks, house beer and wine.
I took their complimentary airport shuttle bus to the hotel. My check-​in and check-​out went smoothly here. I was only here for one night because they could not give me my same rate of $ 179 for my second and third nights. The rate with taxes was almost $ 202. I had to change hotels for a lower rate. My room 417 had a view overlooking the rear of the building as you can see from my pics. The view was not so nice.
This hotel is conveniently located to near the bay, Seaport village and the Gaslamp district. I would return here assuming I can get a similar or lower hotel rate.

I really dig this hotel! We arrived late at night and there was a long line of cars waiting to be moved by the valet guys. They were running up and down trying to move all the cars. The gentleman who helped me was really nice and apologized.
Front desk check in was a breeze. Again, host was really nice. Our room was the BOMB! Nice, spacious suite with a king bed. They were sweet enough to already have the crib in the room for my baby. Sure, there’s some wear and tear but the room was very clean and modern.
Complimentary breakfast and booze at happy hour is worth it. Overall, very happy with this place.

This location of the Embassy Suites has seen better days. It is right by the bay, which is really nice. If you look closely in your room, you’ll probably see signs of wear and age like I did. From missing or chipped paint, to a totally open space below the fridge that looked like it was missing a cover, wear and tear signs were everywhere. The furniture and furnishings look like they could stand an update.
If you can get over that, it’s a typical Embassy Suites room. Spacious. Two rooms. Two sinks. Etc. The amenities are great. Extensive complimentary breakfast, a manager’s reception. I’ll take that. I may even double-​fist with cocktails. It will likely take a few to get a buzz going. Believe me — I tried on more than one occasion. It didn’t work. Even when I ordered cranberry and vodka, it still wasn’t strong.
Just a note: I’m not sure that this chain is the best option for business travelers. Kids were everywhere! Jumping, yelling, screaming, playing tag, the list goes on.
My check in process was also confusing. The clerk shot down my request for a room on a high floor, saying that since I was there for a conference, there was a certain room block reserved for us. When I asked if coming back would make a difference, he said yes. But then he contradicted himself almost immediately after I tried to confirm what he said. He told me a few hours or the next day wouldn’t make a difference for my room preference. Apparently, the room I had been pre-​assigned was my permanent location. That makes me wonder — What if there was something wrong with my room? What if my AC didn’t work like other reviewers mentioned? You mean to tell me I couldn’t switch into another one!!! Overall, he just seemed new or totally clueless. I don’t know which one.
I’ll also add that I lost a ring I loved in my room. I know I left it on the sink, under a towel. I called the manager that night, who said he would have housekeeping look for it. He gave me his direct line and name, which I appreciated. But my ring was never found.
