Business Owner

Stephen J. Estey is a founding partner of Estey & Bomberger, LLP. In February of 2012 and 2014, he was named «Trial Attorney of the Year» by the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego for his many record setting, eight figure verdicts and settlements. He has received three Outstanding Trial Lawyer Awards from CASD and was lead counsel in the California Supreme Court Case of Morris v. De La Torre (2005) 36 Cal 4th 260. Steve is an ABOTA member and has an AV-​Rating with Martindale-​Hubbell. He has also been named Super Lawyer for the years 2008 – 2014. In addition, he has been included in The National Trial Lawyer’s «Top 100 Trial Lawyers» since 2010 and The Best Lawyers in America since 2011. Finally, Stephen was chosen as a finalist for the Consumer Attorneys of California’s 2010 – 2011 Consumer Attorney of the Year Award.

I was in a very bad cycling accident, from which I suffered «minor TBI». Mike and the rest of the firm took amazing care of me during the 18 months it took to settle my case. Being a fellow cyclist, Mike understood how my life turned upside down after my accident. They went above and beyond just representing me, the staff went out of there way to make sure my day to day needs were met. I think because they work with personal injury clients, they knew, before I did, what may needs I would have. As much as I wish I hadn’t crashed and needed their representation, I am very grateful that they came into my life.

Although they did not end up representing me, I had a great experience with this firm and I would not hesitate to use them in the future or recommend them to my friends. The girl I spoke with, Valerie, called me within 10 minutes of filling out the form on the website. She was very knowledgeable and helpful at our meeting and pointed me in the right direction. Their office on India Street is beautiful and has a great view of the airport.

I have seen this law firm in action twice, and I think they’re as good as it gets. Their cases are complete — they provide all of the evidence necessary and make the best argument. Steve is great — obviously intelligent, but down to earth and in touch with all types of people. He considers all facets of a case and knows the right thing to do. You’ll want to have these guys on your side.
I have to agree that their front-​desk receptionist is kind of rude, and not up to the level of the attorneys working there. Minor point, but they should probably find a better representative for their firm.

I have had the pleasure (and displeasure) of having worked with many attorneys, incompetent staff and less than stunning paralegals in my time. I’ve hired a few, been snubbed by many and most the time get frustrated by their staff that don’t call you back and lawyers with their empty and lofty promises. Out of every lawyer i’ve ever worked with, Stephen and Mike are my absolute favorites.
Why? Well the first reason is they’re actually good at what they do. Most attorneys are self-​anointed «experts» claiming they are «highly experienced» when in reality, are paper pushers with little to no reputation in the legal field and would pee their pants in a real court trial. These guys really are the best at what they do, they won 100 MILLION DOLLARS in one year. Wild.
Also when you speak to them, they actually listen. They really care about their clients and it shows when they talk to you and when you see them talk to others. Its hard to find lawyers who really are just good, honest people and bad ass attorneys on top of it. The best part is if they don’t win your case *unlikely* then you don’t actually pay them anything. All the costs associated with your case, their time, expert analysis etc. the firm will pay for. This is the best situation for people tight on budget because it means its «risk free» for the client and anyone, regardless of their own financial situation can afford the best lawyer available to them.
Highly recommended to anyone seeking a personal injury lawyer in southern california.

Mike and Steve are great and I would highly recommend them. I’ve worked with a number of lawyers over the years and the truth is these guys are the most trustworthy ones I’ve ever worked with. For me, choosing a lawyer I can trust combined with a great history of past results is what is most important and this firm has both those things.

These guys are supposed to be the cream of the crop as far as attorneys go. Their assistant, however, is not. This review is in regards to how she handled my phone call.
I called in regarding an insurance company hounding me for a statement after being trapped in a fire. Right. Never sign anything without a lawyer.
It was my understanding that this firm is a personal injury firm. Perhaps I was misinformed.
Called the group and spoke with the woman who answered the phone. She asked me to explain the case to her and then had the gall to ask me, «So what’s wrong with you?» In THAT tone. You know THE tone that makes you seriously question how someone got the job? WOW. She then asked me if anything is still wrong. Seriously? Were you not listening to me for the last five minutes? She also acted as though burned lungs was not a serious health issue. Because my case wasn’t «catastropic» she recommended I called the Bar and gave me their number (which I already had).
These guy do slip and falls. That’s catastropic? Being trapped in a fire for 20 minutes and rushed to the hospital for smoke inhalation and possible spinal fracture isn’t? Ummm okay.
I guess I don’t know the definition of catastropic. No problem if you don’t want to take my case (I love how someone else decides for them). Found another competent, award-​winning attorney and went on my merry way.
Perhaps these guys need to evaluate a potential client’s first impression. You don’t have to take my case, but maybe let the person answering the phone know that compassion and respect, while not mandatory, should be part of her job.
