Frosted Robin Cupcakes

I was excited to try this place since my cousin had raved about their «egg shaped» cake pops, but unfortunately they changed the baker who did not make them. So instead, I got the key lime cupcake… Did not like it at all. It was dry, and nearly tasteless. For $ 3.50, I’d much rather indulge in Sprinkles cupcake, which is bigger and tastes way better.
Plus, they have an extra charge for card purchases…

My favorite cupcake place is hidden inside Seaport Village. This shop sports a bright homey vintage feel. Their cupcakes are not overly sweetened and married with the most exotic flavors. They carry many other gourmet treat as well as variety of organic loose leaf tea here. I always make sure to grab and iced green tea to complete my cupcake order.
Ill speak on behalf of my personal favorites. The Cayman Spice cupcake is Coconut milk infused, cinnamon and nutmeg cake, topped with a coconut buttercream icing and cinnamon sugar sprinkle. Very different but amazing!
Next is the Cookies and Milk cupcake. It’s Chocolate cookie cake, topped with cookie crumb icing with a chocolate cookie baked into the bottom. Reminds me if an Oreo cookie.
The cupcakes and drinks here are worth the venture. Its’s a beautiful business, that serves beautiful food, in a beautiful area.

Extremely unimpressed. Poor service. Mediocre at best macaroons. Also way over priced. The service was really horrible, I almost walked out, finally bought macaroons in six flavors. They were all dry, a LOT of food coloring and didn’t taste like the said flavor. Except the lavender, that did but wasn’t good. They crumbled and the stuff in the middle oozed out in a bad way when trying to eat them.
I’d skip this. I’m not a huge fan at most of the seaport shops anyways, but this is the worst. Or an least the worst service, which is a huge turn off for me. Act like you don’t want my business, you wont get it.

I am so upset that they changed it all around. Their cupcakes before were my favorite cupcakes in San Diego and now they are awful. The flavors are weird, they didn’t even have a CHOCOLATE CUPCAKE, they tried adding macaroons and dipped treats but it is awful.
They need to go back to the old cupcakes if they want to sell any.
The workers are rude and belittling. Except for one girl that is there at night usually. I used to go about once every two weeks for a treat but I won’t go back in there. Very disappointed.
Quit trying so hard.

Positive things first, wonderful service.
The guy behind the counter was ultra nice and sweet to us, talked to us about the cupcakes, validated our parking stub and made us tea.
The negative is — well… the cupcakes are not that great.
Far from moist or fresh, dry and cake’y, the frosting not soft to the touch and a bit hard like a shell, i think it was sitting out for a while before i purchased it.
Great location but not good cupcakes.

As any local knows, Seaport Village is to be avoided. If you do get stuck walking your tourist friends through here, know that Frosted Robin is an acceptable place to pick up some dessert if you dine in the area. In our case, a craving for Ben and Jerry’s was announced after dinner at Lions Share. We spotted Frosted Robin next door, went in, and gave the cupcake pops a try, a first for me. I went in expecting mediocrity, but was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t actually taste any difference between these and the ones offered at the overblown Milk Bar in New York City. Red Velvet and Praline were very tasty. I can now mark this down as a nice stop in corny Seaport Village after dodging fanny packs and Japanese tourists.

Macarons is the best for me, since I am not into cupcakes too much. Cupcakes to me are little little pretty fattening things that are more ornamental than anything. Usually I find them too sugary, extremely sweet and finally tasteless. This place was no exception, but I like their coffee and the macarons (even though they are too expensive, true). At least they don’t make the macarons Costco size and this is a plus, as there are people who are more interesting in quality and flavor and not huge size.
The plus for me is that the location is amazing, and the Caribbean blue walls and decorations are too pretty for us girls. I think they should start selling some jewelry and accessories, it looks like a boutique. I am very sure they will have lots of success as mostly the clients are ladies anyways, attracted to colors and pretty cupcakes… why not some bling bling to wear?

Cupcakeries are spring up every where. These little sweet mini cakes are my new vice and anywhere i have a chance I try to indulge in my new addiction.
During an afternoon around Seaport village we discovered this darling shop. They have nice display of cupcakes and macroons. We ordered a chocolate cupcake and one nutella macroon. Both the cupcake and macroon were mediocre in flavor. There was nothing about our visit that would make us crave to come back.

Located in Seaport Village in San Diego. Love that it’s such a CUTE place, but the cupcakes were on the too sugary side for me. We had their chocolate blue vanilla and lavender cupcakes (mini) … I needed to sit down afterwards to recover. =P SO MUCH SWEETNESS. To be fair, the flavor was good, but too sweet and the cake was too dry in my opinion. At $ 1.85 a pop for their mini, it’s enough to make me think twice, but knowing I was in the touristy part of town, I shouldn’t have expected it to be cheaper.

What a shame. Why, you ask? It’s because Frosted Robin’s probably served me a near-​perfect cupcake in terms of texture and taste, but instead of a sweet, sugary taste being left in my mouth after consuming my cupcake, I left with a sour one because I felt dissatisfied.
My chocolate cupcake with a blue vanilla buttercream was absolutely divine. The cake was perfectly cooked, moist, not too dense, but just the right consistency. The buttercream was fluffy and delightful. But for $ 3.50, the size of my cupcake was a huge disappointment. Three bites and that sucker was gone. Babycakes and Heavenly Cupcake gives you twice the cupcake for the same cost.
Frosted Robin is located in Seaport Village, capitalizing on the hoards of tourist cattle. Therefore, because the tourists will likely never be back, and since new tourists are constantly trickling in, they can get away with putting out a cupcake that isn’t exactly great in terms of value. I would certainly put Frosted Robin on my regular cupcake rotation if they would fix the size issue. Size matters.

I won’t be coming back to this place for cupcakes.
The BF earned some major love points last night. I came home from a 12 hour day of trial prep, and found a cupcake from Frosted Robin Cupcakes on the dinner table. I have a ridiculous sweet tooth.
Anyway, I took one bite, and was not impressed– at all. It was supposed to be a lemon cupcake, but there was not one hint of lemon– save for the little piece of candy on top (which was frankly the only enjoyable part of this cupcake). The cake batter was hard and dry.
The frosting was gross. I prefer crème cheese or thicker– less sweet frostings. This frosting was pure sugar. Don’t get me wrong, I love sugar, but cupcakes require a delicate balance of flavors. That was not happening here. The only flavor was sugar.
The cupcake was also pretty small. According to other reviews, this cupcake is also a little pricey. This cupcake lacks in size, appropriate pricing, flavor and texture.
There are too many cupcake places out there to waste any time here.

Oh wouldn’t you know. In keeping up with the latest and greatest dessert fad, Frosted Robin Cupcakes has included macarons to their repertoire. Good for them for diversifying.
Cost: I believe they were $ 2.75 a piece, or $ 16 for 6. Holy cow! Now that’s expensive. They aren’t large, so don’t think for once you are getting your money’s worth. This must be the Seaport Village tourist mark up. That’s the only explanation for charging this much.
Taste: If they were absolutely delicious, then I’d rethink the extravagant cost, but I just wasn’t impressed. We tried the caramel (not salted, just plain ol caramel), vanilla, nutella, and crème brûlée. My favorite was the crème brûlée. I would’ve been more wow’d by the caramel if it was salted, but then again, that’s my current obsession. The cookie was crisp with a chewy bite, but they didn’t pack a ton of flavor, and for the price, they just aren’t worth it.

Located in Seaport Village in San Diego, this is a worthwhile stop for sweets. What caught my eye were their cupcakes, macarons, and their homemade sodas.
I ended up uncontrollably buying sweets and ended up trying two macarons (crème brûlée and salted caramel), their cookies and milk cupcake, and their watermelon soda.
The watermelon soda is made with perrier, flavored syrup, and half and half. It had a very unique taste and I generally liked it. The watermelon flavor is similar to a jolly rancher. While it’s okay, I’d likely try their other sodas next time. I do like that they mix up their own sodas from scratch — it’s a nice, classy touch.
The cookies and milk cake was very moist and I enjoyed it. The bottom of the cupcake is lined with half an oreo and the «milk» frosting tastes similar to the filling of an oreo. It was a nice touch and a well balanced, moist cake. They do a great job with their cakes. I wish they had more unique flavors like this one. They say that other popular choices are red velvet and german chocolate.
Their macarons were good, but not amazing. For the crème brûlée macaron, I loved that you could see/​taste little pieces of the caramelized sugar glass and that you get a strong custard taste. I give them credit for their creativity, but I can’t tell you that it was the best flavor I’ve had. As for the salted caramel — it was good, but there was too little caramel and too much cookie.
Overall…I really enjoyed this place and I thought that their sodas and cupcakes make this place worth trying!

Eating the desserts at Frosted Robin was like riding a roller coaster: I would take a bite of the cupcake and be screaming at the top, and then a bite of the lavender cake pop and be cringing at the bottom.
I ordered the: lavender cake pop, the white chocolate and lavender robin egg, the oreo robin egg, and the chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting.
I had the cupcake first and I was so impressed with the texture and consistency of the cake. I have had my share of gourmet cupcakes and this by far «takes the cake» as one of the best I have had. The frosting itself wasn’t that great but since it was a bit sweeter and heavier it played as a nice contrast with the dense, but light, cake.
The lavender cake pop deserves its own paragraph. I am a decent fan of lavender in ice cream so I thought I would give it a try. As some of you may know, lavender is used alot in soaps and misting sprays, etc… imagine you taking a bite out your soap bar… yeah… that bad. I couldn’t take more than two bites before I tossed it in the trash. This and the white chocolate and lavender egg didn’t do it for me, I though they could have just used a small bit of lavender rather than overpowering it, bleh, horrible.
Then I had the oreo egg, and after all that lavender it felt good to wash the bad taste out with something that didn’t taste like soap… ironic huh? Their robin eggs work the same way as cake pops except they mold them in an egg shape. This egg just WORKED, because it was simple and to the point. Chocolate covered egg with a milk chocolate cake filling and oreo crumbles on top… simple and tasty, that’s how it should be.

The cupcakes here are totally blah. But the Robin Eggs?! TO DIE FOR! Perfect moistness, unlike any similar truffle-​esque baked good I’ve had. I’ve gone out of my way in San Diego just to get one of these. Obsessive? Yes. Incredible? DOUBLE YES.
My absolute favorite is the lavender in white chocolate, but they rarely have it. Close seconds include strawberry in milk chocolate and vanilla in dark chocolate, mmmmm. I’ve gotta try that new Cayman spice in cinnamon white chocolate too! Can’t wait to get back down there!

My cousin, sister and I were walking around Seaport Village and we saw the cupcake sign so we had to come in! The place is pretty small, but everything looked so cute. They have teas, macaroons, cupcakes, cakepops, and more. It took us awhile to decide what we actually wanted to try, but everything in my opinion tasted just okay. Not super good, but not bad.
What we tried:
Lavender Cupcake/​Cakepop: my cousin is a fan of lavender flavored things so she had to try it. She liked the cupcake and it didn’t have too much of the lavender flavor, but it was still pretty good. The presentation of the cupcake was so pretty! However, the cakepop was too dense so that was a disappointment.
Rose Lychee/​Crème Brûlée/​Pistachio Macaroon: pretty small compared to other macaroons that I’ve had. The Rose Lychee had more of a lychee flavor, but not too much. The Crème Brûlée tasted more like a caramel macaroon so you couldn’t really tell a difference. The Pistachio one was a little bland so it didn’t have that much of a pistachio taste.
Service:
Workers seemed like they didn’t want to be there. We stood there for awhile deciding on what we wanted and when we were about ready, this large group of people came and stood by the cashier and they ended up helping them first. So they basically just pushed us aside, but whatever really. Everything did look nice inside and it’s a little cramped, but the desserts lacked flavor.

This place is one of the few eateries in Seaport Village that isn’t mediocre. We had the Cayman Spice and the Blue Chocolate Vanilla. The Cayman Spice had amazing flavor in it (tastes very «holiday-​ish») and the frosting was light and fluffy. The cupcake itself was not the most moist, but the flavors made up for that.
The Blue Chocolate Vanilla was also really, really, moist and the frosting was a nice, simple buttercream with some coloring. Simple, but good! We definitely will be back to try more flavors :)

Das kleine Café ist absolut niedlich und gemütlich.
Für die Cupcakes könnte ich sterben sie sind unglaublich lecker! Handwerklich sehr gut gemacht mit schön süßem icing und fluffigem Teig.
Außerdem ist der Kaffee echt spitze, sehr hochwertig genauso wie der Tee.
Man kann hier auch kleinigkeiten kaufen wie Schokolade, Honig, Pralinen und auch Tee und Kaffee.
Wenn man hier ist auf jeden fall vorbei schauen!

very moist, and aesthetically appealing. Not overly sugary. My favorite was the pink lemonade cupcake.

The cookies n’ cream cupcake tickled my taste buds with its just-​the-​right-​amount-​of-​sweetness flavor. Yummmmmmmm. There is an actual Oreo on the bottom of the cupcake and yummy real Oreo chunks inside the cupcake. Would totally get this again.
The hazelnut coffee drink is also tasty.

I’m picky when it comes to sweets. It can’t be too sweet, just right. Is that too much to ask for? Apparently so.
We ventured in here after our ice cream adventure because I was craving cupcakes. The ladies behind the counter were eager to sell us their tropical flavors so we grabbed the mango and lavender and two of the valentine cupcakes.
These cupcakes didn’t appeal to me. I had high hopes for the lavender. I’m a fan of anything purple and lavender is my favorite scent. I couldn’t really figure what was going with this cupcake. I couldn’t distinguish a particular flavor. The cake itself was hard and dense and felt like chalk. I was a bit disappointed.
Mango: I could definitely taste the flavor but same — dense
VDAY cupcake: vanilla cake, gummy fondant heart topping, insanely sweet frosting.
Bleh. This place got good reviews on Unilocal so I’m a bit surprised that I didn’t like them. Maybe it was an off day.
