I was in distress. 9 pm at night and the «check engine» light comes on. Made my way to this location at 16^th @ G street and asked for help. «STEVE» came to my rescue and solved the problem. Would I go again? Yes, I would. I drove I-​5 North to Mission Avenue with confidence. Thank you so much Steve… I gave him a HUUUUGE HUG after paying my bill.

This place is amazing. They have great service and were very upfront and honest about pricing and time. They did what they said they were going to do only faster.

Our car broke down out of town and we looked at Unilocal and found this location. They got us in and got it fixed the same day within hours. They went the extra mile for us and we really appreciate it. They had reasonable prices but more than that really great service. We got back on the road and were able to get home in time even with this major hiccup.

Awesome people gave me a great price on a trans fluid change on my hybrid super nice people who do quality work they were also working on some cool old mustang which tells me they are trustworthy or that classic mustang would not have been there all in all they are awesome give them a try

Fantasies service! Plz keep in mind I have no clue what’s cheap or expensive at auto shops or good vs bad deals. But as I was researching my car’s problems it did not look good… after being ripped off at James auto (never go there)… I was super worried about it happening again but I took a chance on these guys thanks to Unilocal!They are walking distance from where I live so that’s a plus. More importantly is the service, I called in and Oscar was super nice. When I got there is was professional and courteous service! Although it did take 2 days to fix they explained what it was and what they found… they gave me an estimate and it was by far lower then all other quotes that have been thrown at me! So happy I found my auto shop!

My radiator had been leaking for a long time, but I had just put a little coolant into it every few weeks in order to avoid having to pay to replace the radiator. It’s a whole lot cheaper to use one bottle of coolant every month than to replace the radiator.
That worked fine, until one day, the radiator said, I’ve had enough and started spewing more fluid than a drunk in the Gaslamp after a bender.
I had no choice. I had to take the car in to get the radiator fixed and replaced. I had been here before for a minor repair, where they took a dead battery out and replaced it with a new one. They did that quickly and inexpensively, so I went back to them.
It was a Saturday, so I figured there’d be no way I’d get my car back that weekend. I especially figured that would be the case when they called me at around noon and told me what needed to be done.
I was wrong. They called me back in the late afternoon and told me my car was ready.
And the price was a LOT lower than what I was quoted by a number of other places.
Quick service, at a lower price than other shops?
Hopefully, I will never need to get my car repaired again. But if I do, I’ll have no hesitation taking it back here.

When the tire pressure light came on in my 2013 BMW and I couldn’t get the TPM to reset, I was worried that maybe I’d run over a nail. I called Gas Depot Auto Repair to see if they were a full service station and could check my tire pressure. The guy on the phone was very nice and said that I could bring it in and Chris was there to help. I immediately drove over, bought some gas, and parked my car. Chris was very helpful and was happy to check my tire pressure at no charge. Tires are good to go now. Thanks, Chris! Someone give this guy a raise!

I work for a resturant that delivers food in downtown San Diego. This morning we had an order going out at 10am. Our truck had a low tire. I do not have experience filling tires being a 22 year old young woman.
I couldnt figure it out, but Rafa (The guy working inside the Gas station) Voulenteered to help me. He was so nice!!! Cant even say how much i appreciated him help. Otherwise I would have been there all day.
From now on this is the only gas station i will go to in th downtown area!

I have a newer volvo and had some problems with the transmission and needed it fixed ASAP. I called and the owner was more than helpful to walk me through the diagnosis and even went out of his way to give me a ride back to my house while i waited. Price was reasonable and the staff was knowledgable and friendly. I am always grateful to come across an honest and friendly independent auto shop. Im so glad i trusted Unilocal on this! Thank you!!!

Most people don’t know shit about cars so they take theirs to mechanics who overcharge them for money they don’t have for crap they don’t need using tools they don’t own to feed the kids they don’t want in order to go to schools they hate.
(Wat?)
However if you take it Gas Depot Auto Repair, their service is as overwhelming as their name is underwhelming.
A quick oil change later they actually correctly diagnosed that my car needed a new lower arm bar, rather than new front brakes that another mechanic told me I needed (the brakes were practically new). And given that they were aftermarket brakes they saved me a ton as well.
So kudos to them for doing the right thing… if you’re in the East Village area and want to drop off your car for service, go here.

Reliable, efficient and honestly-​managed business. I’ve had my brakes fixed and oil changed here. They do great repair work if you have a domestic brand vehicle.

The most professional and knowledgeable mechanics I have found in SD. Took my car in for a repair. They charged me for the diagnostic check and thought they had solved the problem by cleaning out some filters and and other parts. 2 days later when the problem persisted, they only charged me for the replacement part that was needed and didn’t charge me at all for the labor involved, because of the missed diagnosis the first time in. Car is now running great. Thanks guys!

These guys are the greatest! Oscar, Chris & the gang are a rare breed: honest mechanics. They take care of all the service vehicles for our work & my own car before I sold it. One time, they forgot to secure a seal on an oil pan replace &, rather than have me have it towed or risk causing damage trying to drive it back, they had a tech drive from downtown to San Marcos with tools to fix it on the spot. Nobody’s perfect, so you can’t ask for better than that!

My 18-​year-​old Volvo developed a steady annoying oil leak, not serious enough to leave me stranded, but enough to leave very large spots wherever I parked.
I found GDAR via Unilocal and decided to give them a try, since a mechanic close to them did not do tire rotations (needed that too).
I got there just after 9am on a Saturday and was greeted by Chris, the young mechanic on duty. He hoisted my Volvo up on a lift pronto and started his work. I took a seat outside the cash register area and he eventually called me over to look at the underside of my car.
With flashlight in hand, he showed me oil splattered over much of the bottom end of the motor area. He pointed out that oil was leaking from the oil pan gasket (not surprised) and that there was a slight leak from the distributor (previous mechanic had told me that too). He said it could also possibly be leaking from the main rear seal.
I later learned Chris grew up in a Volvo family, and had been working on them from the get-​go. This really put me at ease, as I have 2 Volvos and have had them for the past 8 years. So part of the Volvo brotherhood! He has also been working here «on & off forever» (a relative of his operates the place).
He wrote up a very reasonable repair estimate for the oil pan gasket job, and also gave me good advice on various parts of my car, such as other gaskets, coolant hoses, tranny fluid, and smog equipment.
I shook Chris’s hand and look forward to returning for required work in the future. I was out of there an hour later, by which time a 2^nd mechanic had shown up for work. So at least for a Saturday, it’s not like you need an appointment or anything.
Their location is great for people who are commuting into/​outta downtown on the 94. I live just a few miles away, so it was no problem finding them. They are right at the entrance to 94East. Oh yeah, you can fill up on gas and snacks there too, so give them a try!

Called for an estimate to check against another cost breakdown where my car already was. Though they figured it out after a couple minutes, he still helped me out and explained things thoroughly to make sure I wasn’t getting taken for a ride. I would have gone to them if my car would have made it that far. Estimate was right on the money as well. Thanks for the great customer service while not being a customer!

Ok, this review is LOOOOONG overdue. I would love to sing songs and dance naked dances in the name of these guys because they are deserving of no less. I’ve already brought them lumpia and beer for their kindness, but I must do more… I must.
Lemme see if I can make a long story short:
It was back in the end of summer of ’09 when some jerk-​off face ran a red light, rammed in to my «new to me» Versa then drove off laughing. Well, I dunno if he was laughing, but in my mind he was. My poor lil Versa was totaled and I cried, cried, cried. Anyway, that left me with my old Sentra that had been sitting idle for over 6 months in my driveway. The universe works in mysterious ways as I had planned to sell the ol’ gurl, but kept putting it off til mañana. Sometimes procrastination pays off. Welp, being the silly little girl that I am, I decided that I could just go ahead and drive it to work on Monday with nary a care in the world. Unfortunately my silly little girl ass broke down on the 5 SB just before the bridge. Stupid little girl…
Anywho, after a nice call and lift from AAA, they took me to the nearest service station which happened to be Gas Depot Auto Repair. I told the nice guys here of my troubles and woes and had suspected something regarding my radiator or dohickey must be malfunctioning because my thermostat had hit the big H and steam was coming out of my hood. They gave me a kind yet stern scolding after I told them the back story of how the ol’ gurl had been sitting idle for so long, but told me to leave her with them and they’d take a look.
Anyway, halfway through my workday they called back with news that they couldn’t find a gosh darn thing wrong with the car and that the ol’ gurl was running better than ever. I was stunned! Shouldn’t wrench monkeys try to take advantage of an ignorant little girl like me with such an obviously beat up car? Not so in this case! The owner Steve went so far as to quell my fears by driving me around the neighborhood in my car to show that she was running just fine. But not only that, he asked if I had a spare tire, jack and tire iron. When I said no, he gave me all three free of charge! What kind of place does that?! When I asked why he was being so kind, he told me that silly little girls like me need to be looked after and that I just need to pay it forward sometime.
Welp, these guys are fantastic. They only charged me the diagnostic fee and I drove away in a gosh darn reliable car. I really should bake these guys some brownies soon…

AAA dropped my car off here after a sad breakdown, since then I’ve had been offered loaner cars, to complimentary oil changes, fare rates and even rides home… this place is very generous to it’s clients. Steve and his crew are friendly and knowledgable and a welcome breath of fresh air for a single girl with a car.

I am car illiterate. Seriously, any time I have a problem with my car I turn into a puzzled 4-​year-​old who doesn’t know what to do.
Thankfully, the people at Gas Depot Auto Repair know what they’re doing. The guys who helped me were extremely patient, answered all my questions and didn’t try to swindle me into anything. They did a fantastic job replacing my break pads and even gave me a discount since I got there early. It doesn’t get better than that.
So don’t be fooled by it’s outside appearance, this place is an honest and inexpensive car repair shop.

I brought my Audi here hoping that I would be paying less than the dealer would charge me but it was a mistake.
It took them like forever to try n fix the car, furthermore, they can’t even fix it and all they do is increase the problems and money I have to pay.
Mechanics were really nice but over all, cannot be trusted.
I paid close to a grand hoping that they would fix it but the problem with the car was still there I kept coming back everyweek but they can’t seem to fix it so I just brought the car to the dealer and I paid less than what I paid Gas depot.
This place is a total rip off… Beware!!!

Don’t be decieved by the lack of asthetics. You want honest, inexpensive and friendly? That’s Gas Depot. I had them fix my radiator on an altima and they did work on my boyfriend’s Toureg. The owner, Steve, called afterwards to make sure we were happy with the results. I would definately recommend this place and they charge half the price of the dealerships.
