We have a 4.5 year-​old Labrador retriever. She chases the ball like a maniac. When another friend’s dog had to have surgery and I heard how expensive it was, I thought about pet insurance. They had Healthy Paws and she raved about how well she had been treated (i.e., claims paid without any argument). So we looked into different options and decided to enroll with Healthy Paws. Nine months after enrolling our dog tore her cruciate ligament (ACL for humans) and had to have surgery. A week and a half after I submitted the claim I got an email that a check was on it’s way to me. I was amazed! And so grateful. They even emailed a few days later to see how our dog was doing. I’ll never be without them!

Prior to owning my frenchie, I researched the breed’s health concerns and realized I should get insurance if I run into these problems I’ve read about. And I’m so glad I did!
I’ve had Healthy Paws for as long as I’ve had my dog (2+ years) and they’ve been wonderful. They have paid almost all the claims I’ve emailed them (for the few that weren’t — it was because my deductible hadn’t been met yet). The monthly premiums are fairly priced and my premium has gone up a little over $ 2 every year. I’m fine with that because in the few years that I’ve had my dog, he’s visited the vet and ER SO MANY TIMES (we’re helping the doc buy a yacht /​s) it has saved me well over thousands of dollars that would have come out of my pocket had I not had insurance. You do have to pay for the bill upfront but they process claims quickly.
When my dog was visiting the vet almost every month, they sent a follow-​up email asking if he was okay — which was thoughtful of them.
I don’t know if my experience would be different if I had a different dog — a dog with known pre-​exisiting conditions or spotty health records so ymmv.

Another shout out to Healthy Paws for delivering as promised and for outstanding customer service! Our little puppy broke his same leg AGAIN just four months after the first fracture. After shelling out over $ 4,000 to cover his first surgery, I was sure they were going to deny reimbursement for his second surgery. Nope! By following the simple process of submitting the invoices via the app, they approved and paid the claims in about a week.
I was so nervous thinking they wouldn’t cover such an expensive surgery so soon after the first one. But not only did they cover the surgery, they also sent an email expressing their concern for our puppy and wishing him well with his new recovery. These people are DEFINITELY pet owners and understand the importance of focusing on our pet’s health instead of worrying about how to pay for it! :). Thanks again HP!

Our family is very appreciative of everyone at Healthy Paws. Duke, our two year old German Shepard mix, suddenly became very ill. Initial blood tests and x-​rays did not reveal the nature of his illness, only how close we were to losing him — and that time was not on our side.
Our vet carefully explained options for treatment and the associated costs. Surgery would probably be necessary, but only if we could get him stable. She was also very candid; she told us there was no guarantee any treatment would save our boy. Thanks to Healthy Paws, the cost was a non-​issue. We were able to focus on Duke and doing whatever possible to save him. While we still don’t know why or how he became so ill, after getting the necessary treatment, he came through like a champ! You’d never know there was ever anything wrong.
As difficult as Duke’s illness was for our family, knowing we had the support of everyone at Healthy Paws made it so much easier. Filing the claim was easy, the turnaround was just a couple of days which was amazingly fast, and everyone with whom we spoke was so kind and supportive. We have told anyone who will listen about how wonderful they have been for us. Choosing Healthy Paws for our pet insurance is one of the best decisions we’ve made!

I have never been more thrilled at making an adult decision. When we got our puppy, we promptly signed up for pet insurance. We picked HealthyPaws because of its stellar reviews, and they weren’t wrong.
Just three weeks after signing up with HealthyPaws, our dog became drastically ill — to the tune of more than $ 2000. HealthyPaws quickly accepted our documents, and gave us good feedback for any we were missing, and promptly send out a claims check. Their policies were clear and fair, and without their help we’d be screwed.
I’d also like to give a shout out to HealthyPaws’ stellar phone support folks — they were always friendly, helpful, understanding, and willing to help navigate the miasma of a new kind of insurance.

I have been a subscriber to Healthy Paws Pet insurance for 6 years now. My French Bulldog had severe preexisting allergy issues which they would not cover. I understood, but decided to continue with the insurance plan because anyone who has a French bulldog knows they like to play with bees, even after getting stung once, twice or??? They are curious by nature which makes them perfect candidates for frequent ER visits. Other than the allergy issues which are enormous, Healthy Paws has supported Quincy’s care completely and without delay. Over the past 6 months we have been dealing with the most horrible GI issues, including two bouts of pancreatitis, which also included a 4 day stay in the ICU. Quincy is still not 100%, but Healthy Paws has been there for us throughout this journey. I can not say enough good things about this company and the people they have working for them (answering concerned pet owners questions). Thank you Healthy Paws. You make this horrible experience with our beloved dog a bit more tolerable. I understand there are a lot of pet insurance options out there to review. There is only one option for my family. The day will come when we rescue our next canine family members, and the decision on health insurance will be an easy one… Healthy Paws Pet Insurance.

I adopted my mixed breed dog about 2 years ago and decided to enroll her in an insurance plan ASAP. I chose Healthy Paws because my girl was under 2 years old and if you sign them up before their 2^nd birthday, Healthy Paws will include coverage for hereditary concerns. She’s a mutt but you can never be too cautious! She sniffed a foxtail up her nose late at night a while back and they had to do an exploratory «surgery» at the doggy ER that would have cost me $ 800, when I received my reimbursement check I only paid about $ 250 since they don’t cover office visits. I not only received a claim approval e-​mail but a follow up e-​mail as well checking in on Friday after the procedure! I have had this insurance for about 2 years and I recommend it to everyone I know! I just completed allergy testing and some mass removals for my pup and I am confident I will be receiving most of my money back (I just submitted my claim moments ago so it is still pending). It feels great to know that I can approve necessary services and still be able to afford groceries and, once reimbursed, I can cover all my monthly bills as well. I love the online claim submission and every time I call with a question I receive the BEST customer service. I pay about $ 40/​month and I have the 90% coverage plan with the $ 250 deductible and I could not be happier! Thanks Healthy Paws!!!

I can not say enough about Healthy Paws and their incredible coverage with our puppy, Maddie. We had recently gone through some serious medical bills with an older dog and decided to purchase health insurance through Healthy Paws for our new puppy immediately. Soon after adopting her, Maddie started to show difficulties with her urinary tract. She experienced multiple urinary tract infections, bladder infections and had started to show signs of incontinence. She required several courses of antibiotics, cultures and ultrasounds. After her 3^rd UTI, we were sent to specialists to try to find the cause of her recurrences. After multiple appointments and referrals to even more advanced specialty providers (Renal/​Urology), it was determined that Maddie had an ectopic ureter, which is a congenital abnormality. The tube from her kidney to her bladder was not attaching where it should, leading to UTIs and leaking. Maddie required invasive surgery to correct the problem. That surgery alone was $ 5000 dollars, not to mention all of the other procedures and medications Maddie has required along the way. They have covered everything. Healthy Paws has reviewed her claims quickly and reimbursement checks sent immediately. They have taken away the stress of having a dog with some serious needs. The app for iPhone is easy to use and I can submit my claim before even leaving the vets office. We have recommended Healthy Paws to everyone and will continue to do so. They have customers for life with Maddie and any other pup we decide to adopt in the future. If you are considering pet insurance, I would look no further than Healthy Paws. Great rates and amazing coverage.

Really Id give them 2.5 stars but we will go with 3 for the sake of hope that they will improve with time.
I do recommend that new pet owners get insurance right away. The longer you wait the more things can be considered and «Pre-​exsisting» condition and no insurance company can cover it. So if you wait until something goes wrong it could be costly.
Just do your research and find one that works will for you
We picked healthy paws because they had no spending cap and our little fur baby is a trouble child and has already had a lot of vet visits

Our struggles with them:
New company and not very knowledgeable, had to fight them on a case they denied twice because they didn’t know what it was or what they were talking about and even after a letter from the vet specialist they still denied it and we had to have a manager over look the case. ((They eventually covered the claim after 3 months of fighting them on it))
Have to have coverage for a year before they cover hip dysplasia
Now that our dog showed signs (hip clicks when sitting) They wont cover anything related to hips for its now a pre-​existing condition
Things to note:
Dont get paid checks until after you use up annual deductible
No coverage for exam fees unlike some other insurance companies
A bit pricey but you can choose a lower monthly fee (we picked 90% coverage)

I cannot thank Healthy Paws enough for all of the help they have given us through this process. I have been amazed over and over again by how nice, how helpful and how caring my every interaction with their company has been. I recommend them to every person I talk to about my dog’s surgery and I know that every pet I have from now on will be a Healthy Paws client!

I wish my life ran as smoothly as Healthy Paws runs their business. Honest company, super fast claim processing, easy to use website, quick reimbursement check delivery, and amazing customer service. Got my puppy a year ago, got this pet insurance, submitted all the initial required paperwork. Had some sort of stomach parasite earlier this year, $ 600 vet bill, of which I paid about half of because of the deductible. A few weeks ago, his knee popped out of place while romping at the park. $ 3,000 surgery! Of which I paid a grand total of $ 300. Submitted the claim in 5 minutes, got my $ 2,700 check one week later. My premium is $ 36/​month. Can you say worth it?

Wow, where to begin. I adopted a Shepherd mix from SPOT Rescue. Josey was just a year old and was such a crazy active dog. I started to think about an insurance policy for her. Of all the dogs I’ve ever lived with I just knew she was going to be the one to cost me money. I started talking to my fellow dog lovers about insurance. Everyone who had pet insurance said how crappy the companies were. No one was happy with their companies, everyone talked about claims being denied, reimbursements took forever to receive, etc. Everyone said it wasn’t worth it.
I did my research and decided Healthy Paws was by far and away the best on the market. I went with the 90% coverage, $ 500 deductible. Josey’s monthly policy runs me just a little over $ 30. I can’t stress enough how fortunate I was to choose Healthy Paws. Josey blew out her left knee chasing a rabbit not even five days after the required 15 day waiting period. She required a TPLO surgery, which is not cheap. I just knew they’d deny my claim, find some sort of reason not to cover it. Not only did they cover the cost of 90% of the surgery, they cut and sent me a reimbursement check in ten day’s time.
Here we are less than two years later and Josey blew out her other knee. She just had another TPLO surgery this last Thursday. I emailed the invoice to Healthy Paws Monday of this week. Today is only Wednesday and I just received an email from Healthy Paws. They told me my claim has been processed, and the check for 90% of the cost of surgery will be sent out shortly.
Healthy Paws is an AMAZING company. They have GREAT customer service, offer many different options as far as monthly plans, and they make submitting plans effortless. They are as good as it gets!

I’ve never had pet insurance before but just recently enrolled my 7 year old pup. Just like any other pet insurance, pre-​existing conditions are not covered, but it’s great for any accidents or health issues that your pet has not shown symptoms of before. If I would have known pet insurance existed, I would have signed up as soon as I got my pup 7 years ago. I did a lot of homework and chose Healthy Paws because I saw it as the best. Man was I right! Up to 90% coverage and as low as $ 100 deductible… that was one of the huge benefits for me. Also, not only do they process your claims and reimburse you within a short amount of time, they also check in to see how your pet is recovering and have the nicest customer service. I have highly recommended Healthy Paws to all of my friends and family and wanted to share my experience with the Unilocal world and recommended it to all of those who are ignorant of pet health insurance, like I was.

We couldn’t be happier to be part of the Healthy Paws family! Every time we’ve called in the person we spoke to made us feel valued and we have always felt like they genuinely cared about the well being of our puppy. Our first claim was processed promptly and the whole thing was really easy.

Sadly, it’s a scam. I initially signed up based on the reviews on Unilocal so I’d like to set the record straight for anyone coming through this channel. I signed my mastiff up 6 months ago and recently had a vet visit due to my dogs breakout in hives. I’ve paid $ 540 so far this year in pet insurance so I was excited to not dip too far in the pockets on this visit.
We’ll, after 2 weeks of back and fourth to process my first claim (you must obtain all medical records for your pet before the first claim) I was told that $ 202.00 of my $ 300 visit was not covered and that $ 60 was deducted from my annual $ 250 deductible.
So… I’m out $ 540 + $ 300 and I still have $ 190 of deductible left.
I asked why $ 202 of the visit was not covered and it was due to «pre-​existing conditions». Interesting, as my dog has never had hives, only a rash on his belly that was totally unrelated and over a year ago. After some research it appears that all HealthyPaws customers get hit with this same rap. I’m convinced the Unilocal reviews are friends and family. Do yourself a favor and browse Google for real feedback about this company.
Unless you have a new puppy and have not taken he/​she to the vet then DO NOT sign up. You will get nothing back when processing a claim. You’re better off putting $ 90 a month in a drawer and using that money to pay for emergencies or vet bills. Had I done that I’d still have $ 540 sitting in there…

Best health insurance choice for your pets!!!
Okay, let me start off by saying that I have been a pet owner since I could remember. Currently, I have 2 golden retrievers and 1 Brittany spaniel. For years, I had them all enrolled in VPI, and after many disappointing experiences with them, I decided to make a change. After careful research, I opted to enroll my boys with Healthy Paws. BEST and SMARTEST decision I’ve made! The premiums are more than reasonable and the claim process is hassle free. Once you submit a claim, you will get your reimbursement within 3 – 5 days. Not only are they prompt with the claim processing, but their customer service is keen! They really do care about the welfare of your pet and you as an owner! They’ll do follow up emails just to check on your pet’s recovery and to check on you as a concerned pet parent.
I am extremely happy with their service and will continue with them from now on. Thanks again!!!

I signed up for Healthy Paws Pet Insurance about 18 months ago, after some bad experiences with another pet insurance company, I have had nothing but the highest praise’s for Health Paws.
I have two French Bulldogs on my insurance plan and the policy price is very reasonable for the plan that I have. So far I have had to make two claims, Bentley our 3 year old suffered a herniated disc and had to have surgery to repair his back, so he could walk again. The cost of the surgery was around $ 6K and as soon as I submitted the claim, I was reimbursed 3 days later. Harley our puppy, had some serious stomach issues, that resulted in $ 2K of medical bills until her issues were resolved. Again, no trying to deny my claim like my prior insurance company, and I received my reimbursement check within a couple of days.
So without a doubt I highly recommend Healthy Paws and their first class operation!

Can not say enough good things about this company! I insured my dalmatian puppy shortly after one emergency visit. It is extremely easy to submit a claim and they pay their claims very fast. They send a e-​mail out to even check on his progress when he has had to go in for care. I would with out any hesitation recommend this pet insurance.

We signed up our puppy (a rescue from Helen Woodward) back when she was 3 months old and have had an amazing experience with Healthy Paws.
They make the entire insurance claims process as frictionless as possible. You can email them your bill, which they will confirm back via email usually same day and payments arrive in 2 – 3 days. Zero hassles.
They are also very customer focused, and email to check on the health of our puppy and how a vet visit or treatment went… etc. just very kind, professional and caring people.
Wish my human health insurance company was as good.

Pet lovers who really desire best health coverage for their pets — Healthy Paws is the one! Our golden retriever Mojo has had a Healthy Paws policy for 18 months. Three important take-​aways during this time which endear us to Healthy Paws:
1. Reasonable, low cost monthly premiums which provide good coverage. We chose a $ 250 annual deductible with 90% reimbursable and our premium is $ 34/​month.
2. Reasonable increases to premium upon policy anniversary. Some background — first insurance company (ugh, Trupanion, separate review) which covered Mojo notified us 11 months into policy that premiums would almost triple at first anniversary. Adiós Trupanion. Fast forward — eleven months with Healthy Paws we were notified premiums would increase $ 3 — reasonable.
3. In first year with Healthy Paws, Mojo had lacerated paw with hospitalization expenses of about $ 1,300. Healthy Paws not only processed reimbursement in 24 hours but followed up with Emails to ensure receipt and Mojo’s recovery.
