home ec. studio

Found this cute little workshop through an online deal and so I booked the beginners sewing class for me and a friend. I am one of those people that picked up a sewing machine years ago vowing to learn how to whip up some couture fashion garnets but sadly I just never got around to learning how to use a sewing machine. Then comes Home Ec! Yvonne was a great teacher! She went through with us the anatomy of a sewing machine and taught us all the basics in the two hour workshop! We even got to whip up some potholders to take home! Thanks Yvonne! Can’t wait to see what my machine will help me make next! :)

I like the idea of sewing but find it intimidating so I decided to take the Machine Anatomy class with my daughter (age 10) and my niece (age 12) and I’m so glad I did. We learned a lot and it was so much fun! Now I don’t feel overwhelmed when I take out my sewing machine to try something. My daughter begged me to sign her up for the plushie camp and convinced my nephew to go too. They both loved it! We will definitely be back for more classes.

We just love Home Ec Studio. My daughter who is now 9 has taken their summer camp and also a series of sewing classes. She has the best time. The teachers are wonderful at instruction and extremely patient. She has really started to hone her sewing skills and can thank Home Ec Studio for that!

I had such a great time in my Sewing 101 class. It was a small class size so we all were able to get some 1-​on-​1 questions with our instructor Yvonne. I think everyone in our class had a lot of fun, and I know for me the 2 hours just flew by!
The studio itself is really cute, the décor was adorable and hey, the South Park neighborhood is just awesome in general. Yvonee was a great instructor, very friendly and helpful. The whole environment was fun and relaxing, yet very informative.
I really felt like I got what I needed from the class — which was learning the basics of the sewing machine, how to work it, use it, thread the bobbys etc… very educational. I think I can definitely take what I learned in that 2 hours and practice how to use the machine on my own. Great for kids too!

I took a sewing class earlier this year. I owned a sewing machine, but had no clue how to use it. After this class I had a solid understanding of how to operate my machine. I also learned some basics and at the end of the class I had a nice tote bag. The instructors were patient and knowledgeable and I felt that the length of class was appropriate. I plan to take more classes in the future.

Came in for the Maxi Skirt sewing class with Yvonne and enjoyed every minute. Yvonne is very thorough and patient which makes for the perfect seeing instructor! The studio is cozy and quaint inspired a teamwork atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back for another class and would recommend this for anyone! Great for kids, a day out with friends or a solo excursion!

My 8-​year-​old and I took a beginner sewing class and it went great. We knew nothing about sewing and the machines looked intimidating. But Roselle was an excellent teacher. She was patient and helpful. Under her tutelage, we knew how to use those intimidating machines in only 1 hour! The studio is bright, colorful, cheery, and in a great neighborhood which helps to inspire creativity. We have another class next week and I can’t wait to go back. It was super fun.

This was a wonderful experience for my 10 year old. She learned the basics of her sewing machine and made a beautiful tote. Roselle is very nice and has a lovely demeanor and way with kids. So pleased we found this spot! What a gem!

I remember my grandmother had a sewing machine and my mother always said she wished she had learned. Being as short as I am, I have always needed to get jeans or pants tailored. Last year I decided I needed I wanted to learn something new. It is essential to be a lifelong-​learner to keep your brain active. I came to the conclusion that sewing would be a very practical choice. If anything, at least I could save myself some money on my pants. Home ec. studio had great reviews, so deciding wasn’t tough.
I went to my first class on a Sunday scared that I might be asked to leave for having 0 sewing knowledge. This is a small studio and the teacher: student ratio is perfect. I felt welcomed and very comfortable. The instructor was very patient and was able to guide anyone who would get stuck (mostly me).
I left the class with a cool bag that I like to use on the weekends and have shared with all my friends that I made it myself. I have taken another class there and hope o take more. I’d love to take classes more often, but time and $ get in the way.
This year I bought a sewing machine and I look for patterns online. I hope to one day get to the point where I can actually sew baby clothes or even adult size clothing.
So far I have been able to hem a couple pants, made a baby blanket, and a bib. I did those things with the knowledge I got from two classes where i didn’t practice doing what I have made. I am so excited to have found a new hobby!
If you have ever thought about taking a sewing class, don’t hesitate to go to home ec. studio. You will not regret it!

Late post: I have been wanting to learn sew for awhile so decided to take a class w/​my mom. They teach the basics and help you familiarize yourself w/​your machine with all the different parts. Love the different pointers and how the class is small so if you have any trouble help is always there.
So, if your looking to get pointers, brush up on learning the basics, or looking to try something new. Totally recommend taking a course, it was fun and good bonding time w/​my mom.

I can’t tell you how wonderful this place is. I got 2 private lessons from Roselle to teach me how to sew and use my machine. I learned so much within the first lesson I had to come back for more! The private lessons were totally affordable too! I’m a fulltime parent and it was nice to be able to invest in this skill for myself and my family! Friendly, welcoming atmosphere, I couldn’t ask for more. Once my daughter is old enough, I will definitely be bringing her!

Great studio! I came with no sewing knowledge whatsoever and left with a zippered wristlet! (and now I’m addicted)
Love that the class size is kept to a minimum and right off the bat the class is hands on.
I definitely recommend taking a beginner class to get you started on your machine if you are a newbie, like me

Having no sewing experience, I walked into the Tote Bag basic sewing class last night excited but a bit anxious. My worries were quickly erased by a friendly teacher, a cute classroom, and two other great ladies in my class. The instruction was superb and the class flew by. I ended up with a beautiful bag and basic knowledge of how to sew-​this place is amazing and for anyone wanting to learn about sewing in a fun and comfortable environment!

So… first off, parking sucks here. There is only street parking and I can never find parking! I parked about 2 blocks away… not a big deal– unless you are a small, helpless lady who is going to have to walk back to her car in the pitch black of night. Which was the case, but didn’t turn out so bad in the end. Second, the teacher was late. Not cool considering I paid $ 50 to take the sewing class… and I felt kinda dumb waiting outside with my sewing machine.
Now that being said everything else was AMAZING! Roselle taught the class and was quick to let me know she was late b/​c of traffic… totally believable based on the time the class began, so I quickly lost all annoyance. She was really good at instructing step by step. There were 3 of us in my class and we all got a lot of attention. I did the tote bag class and it is amazing how much you can learn in 3 hours… I can sew!!!
Overall, I defintely recommend. I may even come back for a few classes

Absolute most joy I have had a in a long time! Not only do you get to learn to sew but depending on the class you can actually leave with something you have made. The teacher is wonderful and the class is small enough to where you really learn. Great business concept — this would be great for groups or kids. Love this place, thank you!

SO FUN! I just took the basic sewing class last night and we made a tote bag — which turned out AMAZING. At the beginning when we were practicing, I doubted that I’d actually be able to make an awesome, lined tote bag that same night. But we did because of Roselle’s amazing, easy, one-​on-​one instruction. She was so laid back and helpful, just checking in on each of us throughout the evening and showing us how to do everything. I can’t wait to go back for another class and actually be able to start doing project on my sewing machine at home, which has been collecting dust for the past two years!

I can’t gush about this place enough. I received a sewing machine as a gift not knowing how to use it and was ready to throw it out the window after 2 hours of trying to get it set it up/​threaded.
Thank goodness I did not. I’ve taken 2 beginner classes — one each with Yvonne and Roselle. These wonderful ladies are genuinely kind, patient, and are excellent teachers. Before I knew it I had made a zipper pouch (whoa — a zipper!) or a tote bag within 3 hours. Not only that, but I learned how to hem pants, make pillows, pockets, etc. without even realizing it. They make the class so comfortable and completely unintimidating. I can’t wait to take more classes.

The studio is charming much like South Park. Bring a jacket; it can get cold with the ceiling fan on.
Check it out — it’s sew worth it. Roselle and Yvonne are so lovely — they make me want to have kids just so they can teach ‘em how to sew.

What a wonderful evening! I just left my first sewing class at home ec. studio and Yvonne was such an incredible teacher. She made the class fun, took us through each step slowly and with personal attention, and is just a really interesting person, in general. I highly recommend treating yourself to a class here :)

I was definitely intimidated to walk into a sewing class having only taken a sewing class back in high school but don’t remember a darn thing. It doesn’t help that the first person I saw in the class was like a 12 year old. But Yvonne made the class less intimidating and the initial practice lessons help prepare you to start and finish your project. It’s also a very small classroom and I think at any one time it only holds 6 people so you definitely get the one on one help that you need.
I made an apron and feel so proud and accomplished! I can’t wait to take my next class!

I’m pretty sure Roselle and Yvonne could teach anyone to sew. Seriously. These two make the process totally un-​intimidating, which sewing definitely can be, by teaching you the basics and putting you immediately to work on your own project!
I love that after a half day’s work, I have a garment that I made!!! How awesome is that?! This is the place to go for beginners, for sure, and I definitely plan to take a follow-​up class with them, because their space is adorable and comfortable and they couldn’t be nicer!
Added bonus for parents — there was a 9-​year-​old in our otherwise adult class, and she got the attention she needed to shine (and finished her skirt ahead of the rest of us)!
