Before booking I asked about the complimentary wine for anniversaries, and they informed that they no longer do that with the new ownership. shucks. The parking is a little terrible but that didn’t matter when they gave us an upgraded king spa room in place of the wine for our anniversary. The sweetest gesture, and the cutest room. Definitely worth the laps it took for parking! THANK YOU GUYS

Love this place! It’s very clean, super friendly staff and very quick service. Located between seaworld and zoo so it was perfect location for us. Ordered room service food and it was delish. Only complaint is they skimp out on soda for room service so I would’ve like to see a vending machine. The fridge is empty so you can stock it up with your own drinks, there is a microwave which is a plus when you have small children. I was worried about my baby’s food being cold but it having a microwave was a blessing since he hates anything cold. Parking is $ 17 per night so that’s minus a star since there is no gate or security to justify that price.

I booked this Hotel For 2 nights, the price for 2 nights was very affordable. It is a nice and very clean Hotel and quiet as well. only complaints are 1. The Lady that came in the morning of Sunday January 24^th, was not friendly at all. My friend and I came down around 8:30 to grab breakfast and some coffee and no one was there so we sat on the couch and waited, when someone did finally come in she walked in with an attitude like she didn’t want to be there at all. she never said ‘hello’ ‘good morning’ ‘how was your stay last night or anything’!! when she did have everything out my friend and I helped ourselves to some coffee before we headed back up to our room and I said thank you and she still didn’t say anything. I was very disappointed in her lack of customer service skills. The very next day (the day I was set to checkout) Monday Jan 25^th it was the same thing the woman that came in to do breakfast still didn’t talk say hi or anything, also it seemed as if all she had out was coffee and a few pastry’s there wasn’t even any half n half or milk out yet, I had to help myself to the fridge for half n half. When it came time to check out the woman that came later was very nice (she was the same one that checked us in on Saturday Jan 23^rd.) I enjoyed her as well as the young man they had that worked at night. but the other woman that comes first thing in the mornings to set out breakfast is not friendly at all… I hope the owner reads this review and does something about it. you want your guests to feel welcome and those two mornings my friend and I felt more like a nuisance to this woman. other than the lack of customer service skills this young woman had my only other complaint was the fact that in the handbook for guest it says they have coffee & pastries from a near by bakery but all they had were packaged pastries and Folgers coffee. (I know this because I saw the container next to the coffee maker) I wish they would have had something other than pastries, they needed some sort of protein like hard boiled eggs. something more filling other than sweet packaged pastries. I enjoyed my stay and would like to return in the future and give it another try.

This is the WORST hotel I’ve ever stayed in. We just arrived and I’m actually pretty disappointed. We got the king room with the jacuzzi tub and it’s A LOT smaller than we thought. My huaband is deploying and i wanted it to be special with maybe some champagne and rose petals or chocolates but they do not offer anything like that. I guess there was a change in owners two months ago and the new owner has changed a lot about the hotel. When I originally found this place on Unilocal there was a happy hour for different beers (they no longer have that). the fenced in backyard is very small. The paint in our bathroom is chipping everywhere and the large shower head over the tub has soap scum. The info binder has a bunch of water damage… overall I wouldn’t stay here again… quick update I got maybe 5 hours of sleep due to the people who were staying in the room above us… stomping around… it’s not necessarily the traffic you have to worry about if you don’t sleep in its the damn people.

I am so bummed… I was here two years ago and had an amazing experience. We had the big room with fridge and living room on our first visit and paid through hotel tonight. room was about $ 100. This visit, we booked the king spa through the site for a saturday/​sunday, weekend after new years. Although the room is fairly large, it was not worth the $ 165 a night. I knew we had cheaper options but because we had such a great experience before, we wanted to stay only here. Now we regret it. I question if it was cleaned properly. I found sequins between the sheets which stuck to my boyfriend and my feet as I was walking around the room. I also found some when I ran the «spa» and some were floating around. I do not wear sequins by the way. So, where they came from, I have no idea. Aside from that, there are no directions for the spa so every 20 minutes, it kept turning on. this went on for an hour until we were finally able to figure it out. We would’ve asked the front desk but they aren’t there past 7. And we had run the spa later at night.
Another terrible thing is although the location is great being near little italy so it’s walking distance of a lot of food places and breweries… our spa room was facing the freeway underpass. I am a fairly light sleeper and it was so terrible I could barely sleep with cars zooming below the underpass and the exhausts echoing through the walls.
But the ultimate worst part of all… as we walked back to the hotel after our dinner, we knew we had left a light on in the room. We were shocked and had no clue that as we walked past our window, we were able to clearly see through the curtains into our room!!! OH MY GOSH, THE HORROR… we spent most of the night with just the tv light on.
I am so sad to say that I’m not sure if we would ever come back. I’ve read that management has changed and I can pretty much tell because the workers are not as friendly as they used to be, front desk closes really early, patio area wasn’t nice like it used to be, spotty wi-​fi and the cleanliness…-__– and no more happy hour; dont think there’s an ice machine when we tried looking for one. no mini fridge in our room that we figured should have one… don’t stay in king spa «B.» Also, good luck finding parking if you don’t come before 4/​5pm. It’s only street parking so may the odds be in your favor.

Decent. We enjoyed our stay here, except there was NO BREAKFAST which was little disappointing. Other than that, walking distance to many restaurants and not too far from the hub of San Diego.

Worst front desk service ever!
I travel extensively worldwide and have stayed in everything from tents to amazing hotels. Where ever I stay the front desk personnel at the very least will do their best to solve a problem no matter how small. My wife and I decided to stay at the Vyvant for the New Years Eve weekend. Upon arriving at the Vyvant there were no spaces to park in the «15 minute» zones and there was no street parking near the hotel. It was a little after 3pm. I was aware from reading the website that parking was a problem. The girl at the front desk told me I could wait until 4pm when most of the local workers leave and street parking near the hotel would open up. I told her there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to park until that time and that I was parked in a no parking zone. She looked at me blankly. I asked if there where any paid parking lots. She told me there was one down the block which was fine for me. When I arrived at that parking lot she neglected to tell me that it was only open until 6pm and that I would be towed after that time. I drove around for some time and found a space on the street a few blocks away. Inconvenient but not a big deal. When I arrived back to the hotel she showed us to our room. We unpacked and went to leave for something to eat when we noticed the door to our room would not lock. I went to her and asked her to take a look. She could not get it to lock and said that we could leave some valuables in the safe. I had a suit, shoes, etc… so we asked for a different room (which there were a few open), she told me that those were reserved (I cannot verify if this is true or not but when I booked my room I wasn’t asked if I wanted a specific room). I then asked if she could get the lock fixed. She didn’t even attempt to make that happen. She said the «handyman» they used is unavailable. This person made no attempt to solve this situation which would have meant her tearing herself away from social media on the computer to find a locksmith. The only suggestion she offered is that we could go to another hotel. Which after driving 4 hours and it being NYE didn’t seem like a solution. I ended up canceling our weekend, staying the one night for NYE then leaving in the morning. She was able to make the door lock after numerous tries and neither my wife or I could seem to get it to work. We needed to find her to lock the door when we wanted to leave for the evening. There didn’t seem to be anyone manning the front desk often, no security and easy access to anywhere in the hotel. The next morning when I went to check out which was 8:30 am there was only a sign at the desk stating that someone would be there at 9am. The food (crackers and juice) from the night before was all over the front table. I have stayed in hostels that are run better than this place. There are many other options in this area of San Diego. I suggest you stay far away from this place.

I’ve been coming here for awhile and just found out ownership has change. That’s fine but it’s really awful to find out the happy hour no longer exists. Part of the reason we have always lovde coming here is the awesome happy hour and breakfast that is served and the nice people who work here. A lot of the old staff has left, breakfast is only served on weekends and happy hour is a dream of the past. The old owner had live music and happy hour on weekends and that was so great. So bummed. May need to find a new place, my loyalty is done unless things turn back. This is craft beer capital after all.

I stayed there 12÷5÷15 to go to the December Lights festival in Balboa park. We walked there.
This hotel is fantastic and I would definitely stay again but some things have changed under the new management.
First the pros:
* the location is perfect and walking distance to many activities, bars and restaurants
*there’s ample street parking before you have to resort to a paid parking option mentioned on their site
* to say the staff is amazing doesn’t really capture how wonderful they really are. They sincerely want to make sure that you are comfortable while staying there.
*the room as lovely and you don’t feel like you’re in a hotel. The beds are so comfortable with extra sheets and pillows.
*you get more than enough toiletries and they throw in a shower cap, robe, and slippers. Cant hate on that.
*the place is incredibly clean. I mean not just the room but the entire grounds are really well kept. The fact that it was tastefully decorated for the holidays is a plus in my book.
Cons;
*End of November it was bought and under new management so some things have been eliminated. There’s not happy hour and the staff said that they were told that is temporary but a tentative date to bring it back was not provided.
* that wonderful breakfast that includes artisan bread from a local bakery and an awesome granola from a local farmers market is also no longer offered. Although the granola is still good breakfast consist of items from Costco (and their brand too not a name brand)
*the site talks about ‘if you leave before breakfast no worries, we’ll make you a togo bag.’. I asked for a togo for my husband and was told that I could just grab what I wanted since the items are now costco items. that service was there for when the items came from a local bakery.
*the walking stomps from the upstairs guest… you could hear it clearly.
Having said all that I’d stay here again. I’d just request a room on the upper level so I dont have to deal with the walking at 6AM on a weekend. The staff has nothing but love for everyone which is another reason I’d stay and the price for this location was really really good.
A message to the new management; what made your establishment stand out to me and im sure to others who rave was your happy hour and breakfast. I’d bring those back the first opportunity I get. There’s a lot of competition in the Balboa park area to cut back on items that your guests point out as the best part of their stay.

We stayed here for a couple of nights in early October. I was able to reserve one of the suites which was perfect for our family of 4. Two beds in the main room and one queen in the attached bedroom.
Our flight arrived after normal office hours so our key was left in the locked mailbox outside the entrance. We were emailed detailed instructions on how to retrieve the key and find our room. Very concise and no problems at all.
The lobby and common areas were quite charming. I liked the décor and the feel of the main area. We found our room and although clean and comfortable there was a little lack of attention to detail.
Marks and scuffs on the walls, missing knobs on the furniture, tired bathroom, it just didn’t have the same appeal or charm as the lobby and common area. Seriously, just some fresh paint would do wonders.
Pastries, yogurt, coffee and juice were offered complimentary in the AM which was a nice touch. Beds were very comfortable and toiletries had a high-​end feel.
The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
*Ask for military discount.

This is a smaller hotel in Little Italy. I was able to check in early which was a plus. The girls at the front desk are very nice. The room I stayed in was well appointed with a mini kitchen and private bath. The bed was very comfortable. It was generally quiet.
Breakfast offered was basic with cereal, muffins, coffee, juice and yogurt.
I would stay here again.

Vyvant is a classy chic establishment, and their name says it all! This place is perfect. Design and vibe is a 5. I had the queen room with the jacuzzi tub (Room H).Their breakfast was very good and the vibe was really chill and community-​like. Granola, milk, yogurt, coffee, pastries. You can eat at the large table in the front area or outside in the patio area — very beautiful. The room was very cozy and exactly what we were looking for. Annie and Austin were very cool hosts. It’s a bed n breakfast. so you have to appreciate that style of living.
It deserves 5 stars, but I gave it 4 because of the traffic noise. Being downtown can get loud (patio and some of the rooms).
You guys keep doin your thing! I’ll be back to stay sometime soon!

Very affordable and great location. Walking distance to lots of great breweries and restaurants.
Parking is all street but we were able to stay in the 15 min loading type spots directly in front all weekend without issue.
The rooms are lettered not numbered. There is a nice courtyard to lounge at and the lobby offered ice water all day. Breakfast spread was delicious. Typical pastries, Greek yogurt, juice, great coffee, and fruit.
Air conditioning worked great for the hottest weekend in SD. Sheets were super comfortable. The beds were a bit too soft for me but still restful. Fluffiest pillows I have ever rested my head on.
The toiletries smelled great. This green tea stuff.
Staff at front desk were super friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here on our next visit.
They also allow dogs. I saw other guests bring them in.

Charmingly personal, great location and great value!
Some things we really liked:
— Staff is young, friendly and really service minded, and we really got the impression that they will go out of their way to help you however they can.
— Lounge area has complementary beverages and snacks; it’s nice to be able to share a craft beer while waiting for that person who always has to «just change their shirt» or whatever.
— Rooms were clean.
A few issues (insignificant to me, but you should know about them):
— Our room was facing the street and had (very little, but still) some noise from the street and passing airplanes.
— The location is great, if you want to be downtown, with all of «little Italy’s» nearby restaurants — but it’s not near the sea.
— WIFI reception in our room was spotty and unstable (we were staying in room j).
— The included breakfast was lacking healthy options. When we mentioned this to the staff, they immediately offered to arrange something different, but we were checking out the same day. If this concerns you, might be something to ask about upon check in though.
But again, hotel Vyvant compensates for all this with it’s unique personality and great service.

My husband and I just spent an extended weekend here and it was amazing! We booked the flat with full kitchen. The utensils and kitchen accessories are above par, I was able to cook all of our meals with no trouble being away from our normal kitchen amenities and we were so happy! In the mornings we would sit in the patio area and do our morning meditation, it was a bit noisy being on a main street but the set up is so serene we really just fell in love with it all. The offered coffee and tea is great, my husband only drinks bulletproof coffee and was thrilled to get a good cup of joe. We were also obsessed with the array of teas they offered, I will definitely be buying a few boxes of my own to add to my tea cabinet.
The bed and pillows were more comfortable than our own bed! I do not say this lightly, I spend a lot of money on our bed accessories trying to find the most comfortable set up. Quality sleep is so important for the both of us as my husband is a professional athlete and needs optimum recovery/​sleep time and I only get an average of 4 – 5 hours a night with my crazy schedule. I cannot get over how perfectly firm and squishy everything was, you will get a great night’s rest! I will be calling the hotel to get details on what brands they are.
The bathroom is new and has a 1920’s charm with a modern twist, I love the décor! Water pressure and temperatures were great. I take unusually hot showers and often can’t get a warm enough shower when staying at a hotel but no troubles here! lol
The staff is absolutely amazing! Every employee we encountered was beyond helpful and sweet!
The location is perfect, everything is within a 5 – 7 minute drive. When coming from the freeway, please note that there is currently construction being completed on the opposite corner of the building. Find parking on Columbia St. or the backside of the block on W Fir St. and ignore your google maps. The right side of Grape Street turns into I-​5S, the left goes under an underpass into a neighborhood and leads you to I-​5N.
The previous reviews regarding difficulty finding parking is relative. As with any city parking, there are some difficulties but it’s 100% manageable. One morning I woke up early to move the car due to street parking but aside from that we were able to find parking within one or two blocks with ease.
The noise from the airport and street was no issue for us. The building is older, part of the charm, but the insulation between the upstairs unit and our unit wasn’t great. The couple staying upstairs had a toddler and sounded like he was in kids judo and jiu jitsu class when he was running around lol. Not everyone’s stay will be like this, but just be aware that your noise levels affect your neighbors.
This place is so charming, I will definitely be booking again.

Cute little hotel! We stayed in room B with the king spa. The room was very clean and organized. The staff was super friendly and helpful when we asked about directions and local attractions. Many things are walking distance including the MTS trolly that can take you on to different areas of San Diego. The complimentary breakfast wasn’t super fancy or anything but still really good :) I would definitely stay here again
The hotel itself deserves 5 stars but as for its location the Only downside was the parking. It’s right near the airport and the entrance of the freeway. We got very lucky during our stay since we found a spot very close by. I recommend not moving your car much during your stay, for, parking is a hassle. Also recommend reading the street signs depending on the days of your stay :)
P.s the airplane noises were not a bother at all

Great little boutique hotel for those who prefer somethings other than a franchise or standard hotel offerings.
Part of traveling is experiencing the city and neighborhoods at a ground level, and this hotel is situated near a residential area, and a very short walk from restaurants and other attractions.
My wife and I stayed in room «Q», a smaller room with two queen beds, and kitchenette and a modestly sized bathroom.
The size of the room was perfect for the two of us, but it could be a bit cramped for two couples — not a deal-​breaker by any means, but keep that in mind when trying to sleep four in this particular room (YMMV, though)
The room is nicely appointed — nothing fancy, but it’s always nice to have hardwood floors as opposed to carpeting that has been collecting funk for who knows how long :-x
Although the hotel is under the flight path leading to the SD airport (which is less than a mile away), the noise was not at all a big deal.
The hotel offers ear plugs, but i honestly didn’t need them — the noise is more of a faint ambient sound than anything else.
If you’re a cool-​ass couple like we are who likes to go all cosmo-​swag, and style on these ninjas, then come holler at Hotel Vyvant.
The back patio is made for happy hour, so make sure you check it out when you stay here.

We decided to stay at this lovely hotel for a few days whilst visiting San Diego and THIS PLACE IS GREAT! AMAZING, WONDERFUL. Our expectations were completely met and then exceeded.
Let’s begin with the accomidations. The hotel is BEAUTIFUL! It has a really warm homey feel and everything is kept so clean. Breakfast is served every morning in the lobby which was lovely and they have a complimentary beer/​wine/​appetizer mixer in the lobby every Friday and Saturday from 5 – 7 (which was also lovely). Our room was amazing. We stayed in L which is a corner room. It had great light, hardwood floors and soft, comfortable linens. I read several reviews where people commented on how loud is was due to the fact that it is located next to a busy intersection, and a stones throw away from the airport. But we had no issues with it. I’m fact we slept with the windows open every night (i find the city noises soothing) if that proves to be too much for you all the windows are double pane and cancel out the city noise beautifully.
The staff! Everyone we met was so friendly and helpful. We were celebrating our anniversary and the staff welcomed us with a bottle of champagne and a really thoughtful card congratulating us which was a really nice gesture. Totally into that type of stuff. The entire staff was amazing and they will make your stay that much better
Location, Location, LOCATION! –Little Italy has to be one of the most ideally situated areas in SD. It’s about 5 min from everything which made it really easy to get around and back to the hotel at the end of the night. The area is removed from the hustle of downtown and is completely riddled with amazing Italian food restaurants, cafes, steakhouses. Everywhere we ate was amazing and within a few blocks of the hotel which had me is complete foodie bliss.
Overall this trip was a ¹⁰⁄₁₀ and we will definitely be staying here again… sooner rather than later.

Clean, intimate, and high attention to detail. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with a beautifully decorated «lobby» that feels more like a family friends living room filled with plush couches, lounge chairs, communal dinning table, and even a little bar set up with hot tea, water, and other amenities offered to all the guests.
Every aspect of this hotel just really impressed me. I have never stayed somewhere that has felt so «homey». Everything from their daily Happy Hour that they host on the outdoor patio with music, complimentary local beer, wine and little appetizers for guests to snack on– to the breakfast set up in the lobby with fresh brewed coffee, fruit, granola, and juice each morning… You honestly feel like it is your home away from home.
The location of Hotel Vyvant is amazing– every morning I woke up with friends and walked into the heart of Little Italy to grab some breakfast and to explore some of the great spots nearby. Can we also mention the fact that the hotel is walking distance from Stone Breweries’ tasting room, Ballast Point’s taproom, and Bottle Logic? Not to mention awesome restaurants like Craft & Commerce, Kettner Exchange, Underbelly, Prepkitchen, Ironside Fish & Oyster… Trust me the list could go on and on and onnn
The one negative thing I am reading in the comments is Parking. I have stayed here twice and parking has never been an issue? There has always been multiple spots up the street from the hotel and the their staff allows you to remain parked in the 30 minute unloading zone until you are able to find a spot for your car that you are satisfied with.
Amazing bargain for the quality of service & great experience this hotel provides– If you are visiting San Diego for leisure, business, or for a family visit I highly highly recommend Hotel Vyvant. Five stars and it reallyyyy deserves it.

During our one day stay in San Diego we received no better hospitality than at Hotel Vyvant. From check-​in to check-​out the staff was very warm and welcoming.
The small room that was assigned to us during our stay was so cozy and the AC had it cool all day to beat the San Diego heat. It was perfect!
This hotel resembles staying in a relatives home. Everything is set up like a big house. The entrance is like a living room or dining room area. The outdoor patio was set up nicely, it looked relaxing and soothing. The hallways and everything else make you feel as if you’re wandering a house.
The homey vibe at Vyvant was undoubtedly the favorite part of our stay. It was a great place to spend the night and it’s located in San Diego’s Little Italy which personally I loved more than any of the other neighborhoods. The only inconvenience I can think of are the shared restrooms. Basically, you’ll share a restroom with the adjacent room, so you’ll get to use it when it’s not occupied. Luckily, every time we needed it no one was using it, and no one really ever needed it when we were using it with an exception for once.

; they had a one night stay for $ 120. Keep an eye out if you’re ever interested in staying here. Definitely don’t forget to check out their weekend complementary happy hour for guests. We unfortunately did not get to try it but I would have surely enjoyed some free beer and wine. Oh also, parking can be a hassle since they have no private lot. So once you find a spot, it would be best to leave your car there or you’ll be driving around looking for a spot every time you return.
