History

Established in 1970.

IACE TRAVEL was established on February 22, 1970, in New York which stands for International Association for Cultural Exchange. Even before the airline deregulation in the United States, we have been providing services such as arranging charter flights and offering discount air tickets, especially for Japanese people living in the United States.

Currently, we have 37 offices in Japan and 25 offices in North America. Our service mainly consists of discount air ticket and travel package sales, and varieties of travel arrangements such as business trips and group tours related to cultural exchange programs. One of our most important principles which we have been striving from the beginning is to put ourselves in customers’ shoes and to provide personalized and excellent service through air tickets and travel packages. Despite having procrastinated until the last possible moment, I was able to get the JR vouchers the same day I called their office. If you are traveling to several cities in Japan, a JR Rail Pass is a must! There are 2 options for the JR Rail Pass: 7 day pass or the 14 day pass. Trust me and get it, because it will save you a lot of money and hassle in the end. I was able to visit Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara all with the 7-​day pass. A roundtrip ticket from Tokyo to Kyoto alone will already cost you more than the 7-​day pass!
The way it works is, you pay for the vouchers here in the US office, and you have to exchange that voucher for the actual JR Rail Pass once you land in Japan at a JR office. You can easily find a JR office at the airport to exchange your voucher for the pass, so don’t fret. It is important to note that you can NOT buy the 7-​day/​14-​day vouchers in Japan; it has to be purchased outside of Japan. So, plan accordingly!
Overall, I recommend this office for their quick service and fair price. Just be sure to check their office hours as they are closed during the weekend. I recommend calling ahead to ensure you bring all the necessary information needed for the voucher.

Awesome customer service and very friendly. Waited till the last minute to get a JR railpass but they sell them here. Bring your passpoet so the name matches. They also have plenty of tourist information.

I had no idea I can get Japan Rail passes locally (but you can find a bunch of websites that sell them online), it was urgent because I procrastinated till 72 hours before the trip. I still had the option to get same day shipping if I get the pass online, but for the peace of mind I opted to pick it up locally.
So I called them and asked about the pass, awww they answered the call in Japanese!!! They needed some basic info from me for the pass, but the whole process didn’t take more than 20 min.

This agency is bilingual and they observe Japanese social customs. Think incredibly polite and the customer is the most important person.
Having this agency available for walk in customers was appreciated. My mother was able to ask all her questions in her native language. I will also say their English is very good as well.
The fare pricing was the same as booking online so you are only gaining by working with them. My mother needed assistance between stops and requested specific seating. I think they did a good job.
We will use them again.

This travel agency reminds me of the ones I used to use in Japan! It’s a small, quiet office, and they have all kinds of information on Japan travel in general with some pretty good seasonal specials. I stopped by to see if they might be able to find any better deals for me for my summer travels to Asia, and told them I had already done a little research. They tried a bunch of different variations on my combo flight, but unfortunately, the best deals they found were the same that I had. All the same, I had a very positive experience with this company, and if I plan to go back on any trips to Japan with a specific focus, I will be sure to consult them.

As far as I can tell, Iace Travel Inc is the only place in San Diego that sells Japan rail passes. I called them to confirm this, then came by their office to do the paperwork and pick up the exchange orders. The whole process took only 20 minutes, and they were extremely helpful (gave me tons of maps and restaurant guides) and courteous while I waited, even though I don’t imagine they make much of a profit off the ticket sales. It makes me regret not planning my entire trip with them!
Bonus: They answer the phone in Japanese.
Extra bonus: Nijiya market is just across the street.

Bought tickets with my boyfriend for an upcoming trip to Japan and the girls were extremely helpful and polite. When you walk in, all 5 employees stand up from their desks and greet you, so cute. When buying my ticket, I paid in cash and had exactly $ 1 in change which the girl came back and had on a little tray to give to me, again, cute. I was already excited to go to Japan just at this little corner travel agency in Kearny Mesa, so I could imagine how cool Japan itself will be.
As far as the services, they can help you with anything imaginable. You need rail passes? Check. Plane tickets? Check. Where to exchange money? Check. Many people don’t use travel agencies as much as they used to, but I tell you now, they are still worth it. We weren’t charged a fee for them looking up the best possible deal so you don’t end up paying extra. It;s worth it to me to have someone else check flight times, dates and prices instead of me dedicating an hour to do that on Kayak and still be not sure if I found the best deal.
Great service and friendly people! If you’re traveling abroad, especially to any asian countries then this is your go to place for all your travel needs!

We went to them to purchase a Japan rail pass for upcoming travel. I was amazed at the level of service we received for a simple train ticket. They even called later to make sure I was aware of a few other details concerning the ticket and travel to Japan.
