Welcome to our dental office! Since opening his office in 1979, Dr. James Hopper has been working with his patients, providing them with the best dental care in San Diego. Dr. Hopper’s experience in dentistry is coupled with his genuine concern for his patients. All of our staff is dedicated to your quality dental care, comfort, and prompt attention. Our goal is to keep your teeth healthy, beautiful, and functional for your lifetime!

Dr. Hopper’s practice philosophy is for complete and comprehensive dental care for all patients. Since most all of our patients are referred by family members and friends of current patients, a level of mutual trust exists, allowing for optimal dental health care. It is our belief that excellent dental health is imperative to excellent general health. We know that teeth are the one part of the body that can be as functional at 88 years of age as they are at 18, and with our ever aging bodies and increasingly active life styles, we need our teeth to be fit! Our aim is to have your mouth totally healthy and functional for as long as you live.

Dr.Hopper believes strongly in the old adage «an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.» As a result, he prides himself in always working with the best hygienists in San Diego, since they are the ones who emphasize the periodontal (gum) health in the office. Dr. Hopper has a general dental practice, but with a strong emphasis in periodontics.

Although James is my father, he is beyond amazing at what he does… ask anyone! He is a perfectionist with his work and never settles for anything less. He is incredibly compassionate and puts his patients care/​comfort and happiness above everything else. I most recently had porcelain veneers done by him and they look and feel phenomenal, like they are my own. He is an expert at making people feel comfortable in the chair and lose their fear of the dentist with his humor.

Dr. Bill Britton is very professional and courteous. His staff is equally as caring and treats me like a human being rather than just another patient. I would highly recommend going in for your first appointment and my bet is that it won’t be your last.

I, my wife, and children went to this office for about 2 decades. Dr Hopper is a great dentist. He even came into the closed office on Saturday once when I broke a tooth late Friday night. I mean, who does that anymore! The staff (Irina, Jill, Kathy) were great. We left the office because we moved away in May.
Unfortunately, I hear from other patients that DR Hopper only works a day or two a week these days. I also heard his staff has mostly left. Trying to get my patient information transferred to my new dentist was equivalent to going to the DMV — a horrific display of incompetence and lack of caring.
I only left my rating a 5 star because of Dr Hopper and the fact that my new dentist commented several times on how nice my crowns were done.
PS: I think Carol M.‘s review is phony. I mean they both came in on Saturday for one patient? When you go to a group practice (medical or dental), you always see one particular Dr UNLESS it is an emergency and your Dr is on vacation. Isn’t that your experience as well?

Dr hopper and Dr Britton are absolutely the BEST dentists I have ever seen! As a dental phobic patient their kindness, patience and understanding cannot be understated! They go above and beyond to ensure that I felt comfortable and eased my fears. They even made themselves available on a Saturday when I had some concerns. I give them my strongest recommendation!!!

Dr. Hopper has been my dentist for many years — we’ve done fillings and four crowns and it was all great. He recently brought on William Britton as a partner in his practice.
One of my teeth started hurting recently and I needed help. Dr. Hopper was out of town on vacation and I was a bit nervous to be treated by someone new.
It was a non issue… Dr. Hopper chose well.
Dr. Britton is great. He has the same care and appreciation for his patients that drew me to Dr. Hopper’s office. I had to have a root canal (bummer), but they were professional, careful and gentle. They kept me informed through the process and I appreciated understanding what was happening at each step and why.
We worked out a plan, it didn’t hurt at all, and I’m thankfully all done.

For the past 40 years of my life, I have seen maybe 10 different dentists and what I’ve noticed is that usually dentists after 20, 30 years of practice get tired and loose interest (just like any other profession), but not Dr. Hopper and his staff. He is gold mine. I read a couple of comments about his staff and my comments to those people is that you haven’t seen rude staff. His staff have always been great to me but remember everybody can have a bad day. I myself believe is energy and have noticed that sometimes I don’t care to even be close to stranger in the supermarket line without even knowing the person. Human being has this energy that sometimes don’t get along with each other. Think about that when next time you get mad of someone.

This place was Awesome! I can’t believe I’m saying this about a Dentist office… I usually cringe at the thought of having my teeth butchered. but I got to tell you… if you are looking for an friendly, professional dentist, this is it. Dr Hopper was very help full in completing a plan of attack for my issues. if you are looking for a true professional this is it.

The dental work was good. My only complaint is that I contacted them to begin with as a new patient trying to see if my insurance was accepted there. They scheduled me, did the work, and then my insurance billed me out-​of-​network prices. While I realize that I could/​should have checked directly with my insurance provider first, that’s why I contacted the dental office. Once I got a hold of them, they accepted some responsibility for this scenario and cut my bill in half, which I was grateful for. I won’t be going back unless they get into my dental network, but otherwise I think Dr. Hopper and his staff do a good job.

I was referred to Dr. Hopper working for a family member of his, and I have been going for several years. I have had some work done with him– crown re-​attached, new crown, filling (yes, I have crappy teeth!) If you want a dentist who really cares about your health and the health of your teeth, he will tell it to you straight and not try to sell you something you don’t need. He is has always been honest and straightforward, and I always feel like I am treated well. He is very experienced, does impeccable work, and has top-​notch technology in his office to back up his attention to detail.

I’ve been going to Dr. Hopper for 10 years or so and he’s the greatest. It’s so comforting to know that you’re in good, capable hands. He’s a super nice dentist with a lot of knowledge and expertise. The office is located in an older part of the neighborhood, but they did a lot to upgrade their facility. He has a lot of patients and they’re closed on Fridays. The staff are all very nice too. I love the hygenist that works on me. I would highly recommend this dentist to anyone in the area. In fact, my whole family goes there now with my recommendation. They are quite pleased with the quality of dental care they are receiving as well.

Dr. Hopper and his office are the pinnacle of prime dental care! I have been going to Dr. Hopper’s office since I was about 3 years old. I’m 33 now. I’ve never been to another dentist… and I’m hoping that Dr. Hopper won’t ever retire because I don’t know what I’ll do. (On my last visit the hygienist said he’s got his youngest starting college soon… so, I hope that means at least another 5+ years, or so…)
I’ve lived out of the area before (Santa Barbara, Alaska… and my parents lived in Atlanta for several years, too…) and we’ve always made the pilgrimage back to Dr. Hopper’s for our cleanings and dental needs. In fact, my grandparents used to come visit from Massachusetts in the summers and they’d always get a dental cleaning while here… and they even had some bigger dental work done with Dr. Hopper, too, while visiting.
Dr. Hopper is the only dentist I’ve ever been to, so I can’t make a judgment based on comparison, however, when you experience quality, expert care… it needs no comparison. He has remained cutting edge with respect to his knowledge, while retaining a solid foundation in sound dental practice. Dr. Hopper’s staff do go to professional development training and are all pleasant and professional, while also being personable.
I must say that I have referred several people over the years and all have been quite pleased. I am confident that anyone who goes to Dr. Hopper’s office for care will be fully pleased with the experience. I hope you take my recommendation and visit Dr. Hopper.
