This place is the ONLY place to consider for any maritime license needs. I’m enrolled for this Octobers courses and the staff is exactly why I’ve heard of This place for the last 5 years. They’re extremely helpful & will go out of their way to help you.

I’m not sure why the previous person bragged about this place and then only rated them 3 stars. It’s funny, I’ve heard recently that people do not like some of my negative Unilocal reviews. What they don’t understand is that I’m only usually motivated to rate a business if they are really amazing or really terrible. If I took the time to rate every average or adequate place I’ve gone to I would spend all my time on Unilocal.Rant over
Maritime Institute; It was started by this amazing person named «Rags». He is a good man and seems to hire like minded people as I’ve never met anyone to the contrary at this place. When I was renewing my Masters license after letting it lapse again I thought I would go the cheaper more convenient route and attend another school. After all, how different could they be, right. Big mistake on my part. The other place was rude, treated everyone like they were lucky to be there (despite the $ 1200 price tag), talked down to everyone, belittled them and generally behaved like a standard Newport Beach douche bag.
Not at the Maritime Institute; They are professional, courteous to the point of calling them nice. They are knowledgable, patient, caring and way beyond helpful.
I learned my lesson the hard way. From now on, I will only go to the Maritime Institute for all my Maritime license needs.

I have a family friend who attended this school and graduated. Now my son is looking into it for after high school. When there was a Boat Show down at the Convention Center, the Maritime Institute set up a table and handed out brochures. It seems like a cool place but I have to say it it somewhat pricey.
Located upstairs in a business complex over-​looking busy Rosecrans Street, the Maritime Institute opened in 1976 and is a US Coast Guard approved school for working professional mariners as well as new students. Part of the program at Maritime Institute is additional training for The Dept. of Homeland Security, US Coast Guard, various law enforcement agencies and US Navy & Army personnel commands. Post certified courses are available for the DEA, Customs, Immigration and Merchant Marines.
What all this means, is– this school is serious business for a lot of people who need training for maritime activities. My son is looking into using some of their courses for college credits. The Master 100 Ton & Operation of Uninspected Passenger Vehicles is the Maritime Institute’s most popular course. The 80-​hour class helps students achieve a US Coast Guard’s Captain’s License. This is all done on site, including the exam.
So the Maritime Institute looks like a great place to get hooked up with training for any kind of maritime occupation. My only concern is the cost, which, even with scholarships and grants-​can really break the piggy bank of anyone not Uncle Sam-​related.
