Specialties

We specialize in engraving, custom and bridal engraving, glass etching, trophies awards and recognition, promotional items, wood engraving such as wood pens, wood business cards, charms, baseball bats. We engrave anodized aluminum, acrylic, stone, glass, rubber, and more. Our engravers are hi-​tech and we engrave up to 1200 dpi. This means clean crisp engraving of logos, photos, designs etc. We engrave desk name plates, signage (indoor and outdoor). We do sandblasting and etching as well.

History

Established in 2003.

Martian Laser stared off really in 1999 when I used to hand turn exotic wood pens on a lathe out of my garage. We went to an engraving store and saw how a laser engraver can engrave into the wood pens so we bought one. My father and I sold personalized engraved exotic wood pens door to door from our company at the time called Internatural Creations. My father went off into other ventures and I started Martian Laser in 2003. In between 1999 and 2003, I really learned the art program (Corel Draw) and the relationship between the art program and the engraver. I started engraving other substrate then just pens, we found many items that were engraveable. Martian Laser then connected with some city jobs, military jobs, and large corporate jobs and really picked up. Martian Laser Engraving currently works with corporate accounts however still works with the retail clients, and small to medium sized businesses as well.

I have been involved with engraving for about 10 years. I am a Corel Draw Illustrator and a raster to vector conversion master. I have really stepped up the engraving world by offering more than the traditional items you may find at your local trophy shop. I started off engraving wood pens I hand turned myself our of exotic woods such as cocobolo and purple heart. I then expanded and we started engraving many other items such as signage, business cards, photos, frames, acrylic, and more.

Was Unilocal!searching for a laser company close to where I live that could do what I needed, which initially was:
1 line of engraving on a piece of teak decking from the USS Iowa (BB-​61). Ron told me that he could do it for about $ 45.00.
The hard part of a project like this is not the doing per se… it’s the setup… the creation of proofs, the time to clamp the work on the machine, ensuring that it looks good and will make the customer happy… have experience working in a machine shop… trust me, while that fee sounds like a lot of money… it isn’t.
So…in looking at the Unilocal!photos, it occurred to me that having my Oscar Schmidt tenor ukulele that Momz got me for my b-​day a few years back personalized on the head would be cool, and Ron was up to the task, so I got both done.
It’s pretty much a 1-​man shop, and there are things that can go wrong, but the bottom line is that the engraving was perfect, the price was as agreed upon and it was delivered in the agreed upon amount of time.
Would use Ron’s service again in a heartbeat for any of the engraving projects that I might have… he’s honest, he does top quality work, his price is very reasonable and he’s a local small business.

I don’t typically write Unilocal reviews, but the great job Martian Engraving did warranted one.
To give the abridged version — I recently used Martian Laser Engraving for a unique wedding present. The end project exceeded all of my expectations and then some. These guys are talented, professional, take pride in their work, and have an eye for quality. I highly recommend using their services for your custom engraving needs.
To give the unabridged version — I purchased a ukulele as a wedding gift. To add to its artistic/​sentimental value, I wanted to have it engraved with the couple’s name and wedding date so it could serve as a display piece as well as a musical instrument. After searching the internet for engraving in San Diego, I settled on Martian Laser as the website appeared the most professional out of the businesses I was able to locate.
After a quick intro call, I brought the uke into the shop. Over the next few days I worked closely with Ron to customize the design via different proofs he sent. The end product speaks for itself. I was able to get the exact design that I wanted, in the exact location that I wanted, and using the exact font that I wanted.
Even though my project was small, Martian Engraving still provided high quality results and customer service. I was not under a tight deadline with my project, but they would have accommodated me if I was under one. It was a small low-​profitability job for them with a high quality result. I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them for a large corporate project in the future.

I had an interesting project that I needed done and had no idea where to go. I was looking to have my Cigar Humidor custom engraved with the logo of the manufacturer. However, all I had with a old cigar box (no digital logos or designs) to go off of. I just googled custom engraving in San Diego and started calling around.
I met Ron and he assured me it would be no problem. We walked through what I was hoping to get out of it and he gave me some great input. He said he would even rush it if needed but since there was no urgency on my end I said for him to take his time.
Over the next 2 weeks he sent me proofs and updates to make sure we were on the same page.
I picked it up today and all I can say is WOW. Absolutely perfect design. When he went over the final product with me he let me know how the engraving went so not to alter or damage the original lacquer finish and to go deep enough to make it visible but not to alter the integrity of the lid.
It came out flawless, just what I was looking for. I highly recommend checking this place out for anything you want engraved. It’s a small shop off of Mira mar road and may not seem like much, but the job is done right and the quality is there. Thank you!

I recently purchased a new home and wanted a piece of granite to be etched and painted with a custom decoration. Ron was really helpful and was able to personalize a big piece of granite. They sand blasted it and painted it. They were all very professional, courteous and knowledgable. I highly recommend Martian Laser for any professional custom engraving you need.
