History

Established in 2002.

Maryjane Salon began creating beauty in January of 2002. We proudly carry L’oreal, Texture Expert & S’erie expert treatments and INOA the ammonia free hair color.

L’oreal Paris is the only hair care beauty treatment (Ionene G and Incel Technology) that will promote hydration and prevent damage from external aggressions.

Maureen is such a phenomenal stylist. I’ve sent so many friends of all sorts of ethnic backgrounds and hair textures to Maureen, and they’ve all been in awe of her talent and versatility. She knows just what to do to keep your hair healthy from the inside out. She’s also an artistic genius when it comes to giving you a color and cut to frame your face like a celebrity. She can also revive your hair from the dead after being severely damaged. I first started going to Maureen when my hair was recovering from some damage from my previous stylist and now after six years with her, my hair looks the best it ever has. My hair texture is a curly mixed African American background.

I see you eyeballing that 4.5 star average and looking for the bad reviews. No, Maryjane salon hasn’t «bought them off,» they’re mostly OLD reviews. Season and Ian took over a few years ago and they’ve had almost the same whole staff as when they started, and they have a Fallbrook location now, too!
I’ve seen Kerry for years at another popular, local salon. I followed her to Maryjane when she left a few years ago (again, I’m fuzzy on the exact year, but it was shortly after Season and Ian took over). Since then, I’ve caught so many glimpses into different times and days at the salon and I’m always pleased with the relationships with stylists and their customers, the quality of the neck and head massage with a hair wash and the human aspect of the employees. That is, they are humans and not pretentious, though they are HIGH quality.
When Kerry first moved I ended up booking her through Ian and he had excellent and friendly customer service skills – also, when’s the last time you had a salon owner book your appointment? Never. They are super committed to the business and to customer satisfaction. I never thought I’d commit to an expensive haircut, but Kerry and the Maryjane salon are way worth it!
I’ve even added color in the last year. I went somewhere else to get a half head of highlights, and I wanted it faded out gradually to look natural. David is a miracle worker and I wouldn’t go anywhere else for color. Seriously, look at people’s photos here! Who’s ever heard of a purple ombré?! And it looks GORGEOUS! *faints from awe*

Maureen Ryan is amazing… I have been her client at OZ Salon in the Bay Area for a year and a half. She is the type of stylist who wants to give you a modern look and healthy hair… she takes sincere interest in her clients and their preferences. I can’t say enough about her desire to please her clients and make them look great!!!

Maureen Ryan was my stylist in San Jose before she moved to San Diego to join the Maryjane Salon team. I had been going to Maureen every 5 – 6 weeks for over 5 years! I have to admit I can be pretty picky and Maureen was always able to make my hair look better than I had imagined. Whether I wanted to go from blonde to black to blue to violet or short and edgy to a professional A line, Maureen is your girl! She is such an awesome stylist and a great person in general. Maureen is a definite win for San Diego!

Maureen is AMAZING! I have curly (3b) hair and she always knows exactly what to do to get my hair back in shape! She is great with cuts when I want to go curly, can get my hair silky straight with the blow dryer (seriously, this takes skills), and keeps my curls healthy and strong. I recently went for the big chop and cut 16″ of hair and Maureen did a fantastic job! She has reasonable prices, is great to talk to, and can seriously do some hair… what more can you ask for?!

Wowzzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Maureen is the best Stylist and has a way of knowing exactly what you need for your hair. She took my hair from a dark brown to a very nice blonde. Her prices are very reasonable and she is a master with the blow dryer.
If personality is what you are looking for she is very upbeat, and easy to talk to.

I never leave reviews, but this salon and the stylist who worked with me deserve so much praise. Maryjane Salon was recommended to me by a friend of a friend. I’ve been desperate for a fresh new haircut to get out of my postpartum hair rut. I called this morning hoping to grab someone’s cancelled time slot, and they were able to squeeze me in (and on a Saturday no less).
I met with Ian, who was very welcoming as soon as I walked in. He was right on schedule and gave a thorough consultation. The haircut is just as Ian explained he’d do it, and it looks fantastic! I even got hit on by a guy afterwards, which I 100% attribute to the new ‘do because that never happens in my everyday life lol. Thanks, Ian, for making me pretty!

I first checked out Maryjane Salon back in 2010 when their first location was in Hillcrest. I immediately fell in love with the vibe, the style and the service. I continued going for regular haircuts once they moved their salon to Fort Stockton over in Mission Hills, and I’ve still been very pleased — an even more so at that location. There is usually always parking since there is a private lot dedicated to that building.
I have never gone to a hair salon consistently because of the fear of a bad hair cut that just doesn’t work with my face/​frame. At Maryjane however, I’ve never had that problem. Plus I’m often a «risk taker» with my hair and cut off A LOT at once, so it’s great that my hair always turns out just as I want it.
I’ve now been going for about 4 ½ years and I am still very happy! Plus I’m always getting compliments on my hair, even weeks after it’s been cut. Season has been my go to stylist from the get-​go for my short, slight A-​line bob cut. I love getting my hair done by Season because she takes her time at every little hair and angle. I really appreciate that careful attention to make sure the style is perfect. Another location has recently opened up in Fallbrook where the owners, Season and Ian are from, which is great for North County fans. I also noticed their price has gotten a bit more affordable, but the service has remained consistent. I definitely recommend Maryjane Salon to anyone looking for a well-​detailed, precise haircut or color.

I loved this place. I am so glad I decided to try it! I have been going to the same hair stylist forever back in my hometown up north in the Bay Area and have been scared to try someone new. Season was to thorough and really did an amazing job! I feel comfortable saying that I have a new hair dresser here in SD :) Highly recommend giving them a try!

WOW what a find. I will be using Maryjane salon time and time again for my hair color and cut. I made an appointment with Season after a friend gave her a great recommendation and I was so thrilled with the experience. Season was extrememly professional and clearly skilled in her training.
I have never had a great experience with getting my hair colored, especially with highlights so Season recommended using a technique called Baliage. This is more of a painting on the hightlights in order to blend the color in which was really interesting to me. I was in the salon for a couple hours and she was talking and laughing with me the whole time, making the experience so much fun.
The finished product was great! I loved the color and cut and it was exactly what I had asked for. With all this being said, the price was very reasonable for all of the stuff I got done. I will definitely be coming here for my hair cut needs and I will recommend this salon to anyone and everyone!

Cool little salon in mission hills. Laid back vibe, nice atmosphere. Small parking lot, but plenty of meter spaces available. I actually only started coming here to follow a stylist, Marissa Pastrana And I found the salon to be very nice on its own. I like the owners, Season and Ian, and always feel welcome there.
I would also like to leave a review about Marissa. I’ve been getting my hair styled by her for a few years now and I am always happy. I’ve done different, crazy cuts (I grew a tail for 4 years with different Mohawks throughout). I’ve done wild colors (neon oranges, reds, blues) and I’ve always been impressed by what she has done. And now with a more conventional hair style she is just as good at keeping me looking Zef to Def. Great conversation too. I couldn’t recommend her more highly.

Since getting my hair cut/​colored a couple of weeks ago, I’ve received a compliment almost every day! It’s been so long since I’ve had both color and cut be EXACTLY what I asked for. It’s been my experience with stylists that they either are good at one or the other but rarely both — but Marissa Pastrana is amazing with color AND scissors. She did my hair once before when she was at Indigo Salon, but I dig her new place. It’s got funky décor, easy parking and I was loving the reggae music :)
I had a limited window to get something done, but was able to come in first thing Thursday morning before the salon even officially opened. I was in a hurry, but Marissa made sure she finished everything within my timeframe. I was torn between two looks I had found on Pinterest and she accurately advised me to do one over the other due to my hair type and time constraint (we decided against an ombré-​type style).
She knew the pros and cons of each look and impressed me with her knowledge of color right off the bat (I’ve had some BAD experiences with the dreaded «gold» when asking for platinum blond). She also was honest about the cost when she advised me how much color it would take. I appreciated that because my thick hair costs me a pretty penny!
I got blond highlights/​dark brown lowlights with bangs and heavy layering. I told Marissa what exactly I wanted and she nailed it.
Will be back soon for a bang trim :)

I first came here in July 2014 thanks to a GroupOn and was pleasantly surprised at the attention to detail and personalized experience I received. Ian gave me a fantastic hair cut and treatment, and I’ve since gone back to David who does fabulous color. I’ve paid more at some places and less at others, but my hair feels and looks great! I will definitely return.

After spending an unreasonable amount on a hair color/​cut, I was anxious to find a new salon to try in San Diego. I am SO thrilled my friend recommended Maryjane!
I went in after letting my color grow out for a while and Season knew exactly what to do to fix it! She asked me if I was okay with her suggestions, I said of course, and she worked her magic. My hair turned out wonderful, and she even gave me suggestions on what products to get (without pressuring me at all!) to help my tangly, fine, blonde hair.
Season and her husband Ian were above and beyond friendly, and made me feel at home as soon as I sat in the chair, even though it was my first time in their salon! I have recommended Maryjane Salon to all my friends, and I’m so happy I’ve finally found a hair home in San Diego:)

I followed my beloved stylist, Marissa Pastrana, over to this salon and am so glad I did!
I mean, truthfully, I’d follow Marissa to the end of the earth, but I was so pleased that I ended up at this delightful boutique salon with a friendly staff, relaxing setting, and great location. There’s a down-​to-​earth vibe about this place, though it’s totally switched on and stylish.
Marissa is fantastic – she is a true artist with color, particularly balyage, which I’ve been doing for a while now, and she has high standards for her work. She helped me grow out a medium-​length haircut so that it looked good at every stage. Her complimentary bangs trims mean I don’t have to suffer at my own hands anymore. I think the coolest testament to her work is that I’ve had other people ask where I get my hair done and even try to replicate the look. (Aw, shucks guys! But really, it’s all her.)
Recently, Marissa was out of town when I needed a blow-​dry and bangs trim, and I had the pleasure of seeing Season, who did a beautiful job exactly how I wanted it and was a delight to talk to.
All in all, I highly recommend Maryjane salon if you’re looking for a new place. :-)

I usually hate everything. I’ve had the same stylist for my highlights and one for my cut for the past 10 years– since I’ve moved I needed to branch out and find my replacements. I called to get a last minute appointment the day before Valentine’s Day and was treated SO nicely on the phone. The owner rearranged a few things and was able to squeeze both a cut and color in after I was done with work. VERY accommodating.
More importantly– the end result– AMAZING. I have blonde hair and I’m very picky about how my highlights are to look. I wanted subtle yet obvious (I’m the worst and most annoying customer, I know) and I didn’t even bring in a picture. David asked lots of questions to get the color I wanted and the end result is so clean and gorgeous. My hair looks natural and brightened! Oh, and they serve wine. For free. I love this place. Will definitely be coming back.

I’ve always been really picky about my hair but I knew since my stylist was getting older (and messed up my ombré…) that it was time for a change. My cousin recommended me to get my color fixed by David and I’m so happy I took his recommendation. The stylist who did my ombré before didn’t leave the color on long enough (I wanted my ombré to be red…) and it ended up turning into a mix of pink/​orange/​blonde. Instead of telling her I didn’t like it, I went home and colored over it… I was so happy that David was able to fix my color without damaging my hair any further and he was able to make it the correct red that I wanted! =) Also, I love that my hair transitions from dark reddish brown to the vibrant red that I have now… So happy that David was able to tame and fix my unruly hair and turn it into something beautiful!
If you’re looking for a colorist, David is the way to go! Please keep in mind that it’s best to make an appointment ahead of time; you won’t regret it!

Everything I need in a salon — especially now that Emma (my colorist who used to work at dk Hair) is now working there! Kerry (fantastic stylist, also from dk) is there too. Double the pleasure, both are fantastic at what they do.
What I like about Maryjane (besides the coffee which is really good!) is the cozy, peaceful but not overly «zen» atmosphere. It’s simple and really cute. It’s not pretentious, prices seem right, and I feel like they’re very «real», I feel very welcome. I’m delighted Emma made the switch.
Five stars for covering all the basics, great coffee, and good prices. If you’re looking for a spa-​like atmosphere with bubbling fountains or über-​deluxe «are you cool enough to be here» vibe, this is not your place. However, if like me, you want to feel good walking in, and great walking out, without paying through the nose, try Maryjane.

Take me to the Maryjane Salon in my Maryjane shoes! Actually, I don’t usually wear MaryJane’s but how cute would it be to walk out with my hair done in some Mary Janes?
I first came here for a cut and partial highlights thanks to a local Groupon that I found. I wanted to go for red highlights since I had never done this before. Since my hair is dark brown the guy (I’m so sorry I forgot his name! But he’s the only guy I believe that does the color. The other guy who did my cut I think only does cuts and he’s the owner.) opted to do bleach highlights and then use red toner. I’m not too hair savvy so I left it up to him. I later got my cut, which I basically just asked him to trim off the split ends. The end result was amazing. I loved the suggestions they made and how they applied it to my hair. The owner who cut my hair suggested to add a couple more layers to my hair so that my layers came out more flowy in the back rather than a dramatic stop to short then long layers.
I had to come back about a month later to get another overall toner touch up ($ 50) for a friends wedding and I got an appointment with the other owner (a girl this time and also the guys wife) who applied the espresso colored toner and styled my hair appropriately for my friends rehearsal dinner that night. So many compliments!
I’d definitely come back to do touch-​ups on my highlights. I may go back to the red and hope it lasts a little longer this time around!

Gerardo and David are so nice and I’m so happy with my results.
I bought a Groupon for this place and was pleasantly surprised that it exceeded all of my expectations.
Making an appt was easy. Everyone was very friendly and they were accommodating. The salon was very cute and I knew that my hair was in good hands. Gerardo and David were so nice to talk to and they asked all the right questions to make sure that I got what I wanted. David is excellent with color and this is the best color job I’ve had.
Major bonus point, the haircut starts with a neck massage! This is my favorite SD salon and I will be back!
