Mission Bay Golf Course

I actually made a Unilocal account just to write a review about these people. Never been there before never going back! Trying something knew we walk up to the guy at the counter who looked miserable and so unwelcoming my boyfriend just simply asked how it worked to do the driving range the guy didn’t even welcome us and just said ok go rent balls so then we asked if they had clubs to rent he pointed us to a garbage bucket and said that’s all we got. Good way to get people to come back after wanting to try something different. we left immediately!
Ps. They don’t have anything for left handed people either

Well manicured. Great pro shop. Has driving range and lessons for all players. I feel honored to walk and play this course. It is the «deal of the century» concerning green fees for San Diego county residents. You all can play it for less than $ 50. Us out of towners pay more, which I am glad to. On number 6, I imagine me with the perfect stroke, as the ball flies heading out to the ocean, but yet dropping softly onto the narrow green.
If you are a golfer, and you go to San Diego, then Torrey Pines is a must go, must see, and must play!

Staff not friendly. At checkin guy was rude and when our tee time came never said anything so we just went. They let a group of 5 go off in front of 2 groups of 2, slowed it WAY down. Marshall came up to us after 7 holes and said someone complained about people jumping, and of course no one did. $ 40 with cart (I need it due to back) is kinda pricey. Range balls too expensive and range is only ok. Seems to be some work going on all over. Greens and fairways are nice, tee boxes are crap. No one knows how to fix greens when their ball leaves a mark, so did that multiple times.

The course is great and in great condition however, I had to give it one star due to the incompetent staff. From the starter to the Marshall they harassed us. We wanted to promote and introduce the great game of golf to two new, young novice players and they did nothing but badger us, even though we had no one behind us and played at a reasonable pace. It became so bad that one of the players asked to not continue after nine holes and the starter refused to refund us for the last nine holes. I am an SCGA member and I have never been so insulted and embarrassed while playing golf. I was on vacation and just wanted to have a good time. However, the ineptitude of the staff made this experience the worst I have ever had on any course ever and I have been playing for over 30 years.

This is a great executive course, and there are even a few par 4s! The below are the highlights
1. Great cost
2. Greens and fairways are in good shape
3. Lights at night!

It’s a classic par 3 short yardage municipal course. The buildings are older and in need of up grading. The greens were true and really nice. It cost 60.00 bucks for 2 with a cart. The pace of place was really nice.

My favorite par 3 course ever! My dad has been golfing here for probably 50 yrs! well maintained and a terrific course for anyone. I visit as often as I can. Enjoy!

For an executive course, this place is excellent. Very well maintained all around. The greens roll fairly quick, and have a good punt of undulation. The course offers 2 – 3 holes where you can pull driver, and mostly mid-​short irons the rest of the way. I am usually one to be weary of executive courses, but I found Mission Bay Very enjoyable for a 2 and a half hour Tuesday round.

Cute little pitch and putt course. Don’t come here thinking you’re going to be teeing off from Torrey Pines. You’ll get the occasional horn honking or obnoxious passerby’s as some of the course runs along Grand Ave. It is what it is, and I like to see it as having «charm». Without a residence card it’s $ 29. You won’t need a golf cart. It’s a par-​3 course.

Four stars because:
1. Close to home
2. Executive course
3. Even a hacker like me can get the ball on the green once or twice.
4. Decent fairways and greens
5. Sculpin on tap
Though the building and facility in general need upgrading, it fits the bill if you’re there just to work on your short game or to brush up.
Bonus: there’s outdoor lighting so you can play or hit balls at the range up to 8:30pm.

This is a great starter course. You can have fun here.
I’m not the worst golfer by the worst standards. But I definitely enjoy the game. I came here with a friend who was far better than I and wer both able to enjoy our selfs.
My shots weren’t all over the place and I was able to focus on my swing.
Staff is really nice. Snack shack needs a CC swiper, the whole inside outside gig is kind of silly, but eh.
Over all, I enjoyed my self here.

City of San Diego, Please get this course up to par. The club house needs a major overall. Get it together and demo the place, build a true club house with a real bar, TVs and a food service. Paying over $ 30 for a place without a single amenity is really getting old. This place could be amazing. Don’t let this beautiful location continue to decline. Come on SD, we have a reputation to uphold.

This is a decent little par 3 near PB. Pricing isn’t terrible but it’s fairly expensive if you don’t have the SD resident card because it is so short. The course has lights so you can play at night which is a cool feature. Definitely an easy course and nice to hone in on your iron game.
The driving range here also has favorable bucket prices — $ 6 for small, $ 8 for medium, and $ 10 for a large. Although the driving range is basically a beach.

well I would have to say that the people running this place must be aware of the fact that they’ve let it slide and have not renovated and updated as time has gone on. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t have? but I’m not running the place… however, if you live close to here, it is a perfectly good place to go out of convenience.

Great little course! The greens are in great condition; they’re slow but still in good shape. The fairways are good as well. If you’re just getting started or want to practice your short game this is a great spot. The best part is it’s lighted! No more «I work too late» excuse for me.
If I had one critique, it would be the trees blocking some of the lights. But hey, what would a golf course be without trees?

The management at this place is just the worst. I’ve been coming here for about 7 years and never written a review. But after so many bad experiences, I guess it’s time to air the ol’ grievances.
To paint an accurate picture of a typical experience at MBGC, I’ll tell you waht happened yesterday: I called at about 3pm to see if I could get a tee time after 6:30. The guy on the phone was nice, but told me they were booked solid and about five other people had called and asked to be on a wait list. BUT, he said we should come on out between 6 and 7 and the starter would «definitely be able to get you out because you’re only a twosome.» Fast forward a few hours and there we are. When I ask to be put on the wait list, the yahoo at the counter literally laughs out loud and says «not gonna happen, buddy.» Are you kidding guy? He explains that Wednesday through Friday they have tournaments around 6pm so it’s almost impossible to get out. A far cry from what I was told on the phone, amiright? The guy I’m talking about wears his sunglasses nonstop, even when it’s pitch dark outside. I’m sure you know who I’m talking about, if you’ve been there. What a joker.
This is a, unfortunately, very typical experience at MBGC. I’ve had countless problems with people there, even when we have a tee time. It also doesn’t help that the place is an absolute dump. It only gets two stars because it is a range and course within PB and can be an OK place to go hit balls after dark. I don’t know of any other lit ranges close to here, which is too bad. But man oh man, does the management blow goats.

GOOD:
–Cheap driving range. $ 6/​$ 8/​$ 10 for a small/​medium/​large bucket
–Open late, 6:30 am — 8:30 pm everyday
–Plenty of parking, short walk to the driving range (Yes, I am lazy)
–Good location, right off I-​5
BAD:
–Old
–Not enough facilities/​amenities
–Don’t take Amex

I used to play a lot, but slowed down because of the politics involved with Golf… I’m not big on the corporate schmoozing.
Recently though I said the hell with it, I am gonna get back into it. It is seriously my favorite hobby ever. Anyway, I decided I’d take a few lessons to help me get back into the swing of things (pun intended). Reviewed my lessons on another post, but I chose Mission Bay for a reason.
The ‘clubhouse’ is pretty beat up, but the course itself is pretty well maintained. I like this course though because I can roll up in shorts and a tee or khakis and a nice shirt and feel the same. I don’t feel like I’m getting nasty look.
If you are trying to impress your co-​workers or boss this is not the place, but if you are looking to just have fun you have a home here!

A wise man once told me that there are two things in life that you don’t have to be good at to enjoy – Sex and Golf.
I would certainly agree with this statement. Its been quite awhile since I’ve participated in either of these activities, so on a lazy Saturday afternoon I was left with the dilemma of either hitting up El Cajon Blvd. or the Mission Bay Golf Course. Well, I like my willy non diseased too much to venture into the realm of getting a hooker, so I concluded that an afternoon of par 3 golf was the best fit for me.
For a few hour long activity this really is a great deal. There are very few places that I know of where you can play 9 holes for under 20 bones. You’re not allowed to drink on the course technically, but everyone you run into out there has a sixer tucked away in their golf bag.
Beware to experienced golfers, this is a beginner’s course. If you’re very serious about the game you may want to hit up some other links. You’re definitely going to run into jackasses like me who’s most commonly used word when golfing is fore! Either way they have a driving range to practice on, so no matter what your skill level at the very least you can get a couple of swings in. They also have lights so you can play when it gets dark out. Not that it really matters when you suck as bad as I do, but at least at night I can always blame my sucking on the lights blinding me.
All in all, I think this is a great deal for an outdoor activity. It beats soliciting prostitution and it’s a hell of a lot less expensive.
