Tecolote Canyon Golf Course

Last year, I had written a review that was not favorable because of a long wait time during Super Bowl Sunday.
I just want to say that Jason, the Manager, reached out and more than made up for the inconvenience of my golf group.
He fixed the problem, welcomed us back and went out of his way to contact me to make sure everything went good on my latest visit.
Class act out there! Usually golf courses have enough business not to worry about the «little guys». But Tecolote Canyon did worry and made it right.
We will be back!

The male staff in the clubhouse do a poor job of representing American Golf, (and men). The course itself is an executive with a funky but fun layout, but it’s not in the best shape. It is what it is, but $ 30 is a bit much for the shape the course is in. The issue however isn’t the course, it’s the clubhouse staff. As inept a group of guys as you’ll ever find in a clubhouse. I’ve watched the little boy behind the counter in the pro shop be rude and extremely awkward with customers time and again. Being extremely short and unhelpful with the elderly, even yelling at an old man who was hard of hearing only to then laugh at he old guy with the stooge of a cart boy as the old man walked away. Who does that? I’ve watched the «manager» behave in the same manor. It’s just odd and uncalled for. I don’t know any real men who behave that way, but again American Golf might like it when people represent them poorly.

Had a great time, challenging narrow fairways. Course is in great shape. Starter was very nice and informative. Definitely worth a shot. I’ll be back.

Mike the manager at the pro shop was so disrespectful and rude to us as PAYING CUSTOMERS to their par 3 joke of a course.
The course it’s self is narrow, only a PAR 3 (which they do a terrible job advertising) & gets backed up so bad that you’ll be waiting at each hole for at least 20 minutes.
Don’t waste your time or money on this course.

Waste of $ 30. Wouldn’t play here again for free. The course was in terrible shape. I wasn’t expecting it to be Augusta but they could at least put in a little effort.

I understand what busy is. The weekend is always more busy than weekdays. My complaint is when the course is completely at a stand still. 4 different groups waiting on one Tee box not including soccer golfers. We couldn’t even finish our round it was so long jammed. By the 8^th hole we had had it would have taken 5 ours to finish at the pace we where playing. And I don’t want to get anyone in trouble but on The way back in from the 8^th hole we passed the Marshall hitting balls on the back nine! Instead of regulating the pace of play he was HITTING BALLS! And for all of this NO partial REFUND from the front desk.
Moreover I think this is a ownership problem. I’ve had problems at Chula Vista golf course in a he past and they own that one too. Avoid this beat up place. It’s not worth it.

Great golf all day anytime and the kitchen crushes it! Ask for chantel she helped my friends and I out and gave exceptional service!

This is not so much a review as it is a reply to the reviews. I keep seeing negative feedback for the foot golf and the coolers getting taken away. First off, this is a golf course. And it’s top 10 in the nation for executive courses. Yes they have brought in foot golf to help revenue but first and foremost it is a golf course and the foot golfers need to respect that. And when it comes to bringing coolers on the course there are signs in the shop and the first tee telling you not to bring them out. So if you try to still do it expect them to get confiscated. I don’t know of any golf course that ALLOWS you to bring outside food or drinks onto the course. That’s your own risk. I’ve grown up at this place and the staff is always warm and welcoming making it feel like a family atmosphere. I hate seeing people bash this place not having any clue what they are talking about. If you are a true golfer you know what Tecolote has to offer!

Great little golf course and always a great price on golf zing. Don’t let this part 3 fool you. It’s difficult

This is my 1^st Unilocal review. Not a fan of Unilocal in general but today it seems needed. I’ve been a regular customer at Tecolote for going on a year. Showed up today with my friend and his older parents to play foot golf, was refused a cart. After not being able to talk to the manager because he was on his «lunch break», yet we could hear him from the cafeteria. We were allowed one cart for the 5 of us. Apparently the 15ish times I’ve rented carts before, I should have been turned away. Nice of them to decide to change the rules the time I bring old folks from Florida with me. Glad more golf courses have opened up for foot golf, Tecolote has seen the last of my business. BTW, we usually paid an extra $ 10 per person for the carts, so they lost $ 40 and future business today. We were told they have a new boss, good luck with that.

As an avid foot golfer, I usually enjoy going to Tecolote to play. I have been a few dozen times this year alone, and have never been denied a cart until today. We were told that the new manager says foot golfers don’t get carts. When we asked to speak to the manager we were told he was on his lunch break but we could see him eating in the cafeteria. Very unprofessional, as a manager you take a second to talk to your customers, for without the customers you have no job. Balboa has opened a foot golf course and National City has one as well. I will be taking my business and my friends elsewhere from now on. Disgusted with this new manager and Tecolote golf course.

This review is for the head pro there, Jason Peterie. I took one lesson with him a couple weeks back and wow did he help my game! Just $ 60 for a 50 minute lesson shaved many strokes off my game. I shot 74 yesterday, my lowest score ever on 18 holes and from the blue tees none the less at Mission Trails! Jason immediately saw the problem in my swing and corrected it. It took weeks of work to get it down but now I’m striking the ball amazingly. Golf is so much more fun when you play great and that’s exactly what Jason did to my game. I’d highly recommend him for anyone looking to better their swing and lower their score.
The course is nice for the price and challenging. Greens roll well and true and you’ll lose lots of balls here if not accurate with your irons. The range is my favorite part! Real grass and mats to hit off of and a putting green that’s big and nicely maintained. They also have a chipping area by the 18^th green that’s nice to use. Overall I love this place!

I love the Tecolote Golf Course… It’s great for practicing your short game, and definitely has some challenging holes. There are narrow fairways and shots over bush & water, so expect to lose a few balls, especially if you play like me!
My problem with this course is that they don’t have any carts or range balls! We went in for a 225 tee time and had to wait almost an hour for carts. And they didn’t have any range balls for the time we waited. My fiancé went back this past weekend and it was the same thing. The guy at the counter said they «ordered new carts months ago,» but still nothing.
If you’re planning on walking the course, great. Otherwise, I would call ahead to check out the cart situation.

Went with a group of colleagues from work. I’ll keep it short an simple.
For what you get, very expensive. $ 10 bucks a rider for a 20+ year old golf cart? The breaks needed to be replaced years ago as I had a better chance stopping my cart appropriately if I had used my feet.
They check your bags for beer, soda, or food. Are you kidding me? They took our stuff and put it in the pro shop to pick-​up after the round.
There are many places with nice courses, lower green fees, better carts, and they don’t invade your privacy.
I won’t be back.

I was informed of a great deal to pay $ 40/​month for nearly unlimited range balls and discounted tee times by the guy at the desk so I signed up. He had me create an account through GolfZing and sent me on my way. I thought it was a steal and that there had to be more to it. Unfortunately, there was.
Upon trying to end my subscription at the end of the month, I found that what I initially signed up for was a minimum two month commitment. A little bit of shady business but whatever, I figured I’d get my money’s worth and make the most of it.
At the end of that two month period, I again tried to unsubscribe online but was notified that it would take 30 days to end my membership and that my card would be charged for the next month. WHERE ELSE DOES IT TAKE 30 DAYS TO CANCEL A MEMBERSHIP? The Answer: No where of sound and ethical business practices!
At this point I felt I had been misled once by the 2-​month minimum and again by the 30-​day «cancellation period» so I called the front desk to have this resolved before being charged the monthly rate again. However, it gets worse!
The front desk informed me that this was simply the policy of GolfZing and that I should have been informed of this at sign-​up (Ya.I’m sure they tell everyone). When I then requested to speak to a manager I was informed that they currently don’t have a manager but someone may be able to get back to me regarding the issue. I am still awaiting a response from anyone.
My biggest gripe here is that Tecolote Golf Course forced me to sign up through GolfZing to receive the membership benefits advertised, did not inform me of these shady charge tactics, and then insisted that the issue was with GolfZing– as though their hands were perfectly clean! In electing to partner with a company such as GolfZing, Tecolote Golf Course is allowing themselves to be represented by GolfZing and is electing to back their policies. If these hidden charges weren’t an easy revenue stream, or if Tecolote Golf Course prioritized good business over hidden contracts, then I’m sure they could figure out a more honest way of distributing and tracking memberships.
THE GOOD NEWS: The credit card on file had already been deactivated so I ended up not getting charged. However, none of this was due to the help of Tecolote Golf Course.

Not the classiest place iv been. But it’s fun and the staff are nice.
A buddy and me came to play this course. It was my first time and his second. We got paired up with some interesting fellas.
I’m not one to really do the beer golf kind of thing. And there’s a lot of that going on here. Which is fine if it’s your thing. I like to challenge the course and really try my best every opportunity. Beer doesn’t let u do that.
But hey, the course it self is narrow and fairly easy when it’s compared to the surrounding courses. It’s fun.
I didn’t lose very many balls, but if ur not very good, bring extra. The creek and narrow holes can make losing balls really easy.
The only thing negative I would have to say is this is a LOUD course. Because it’s in a valley, everyone’s voice just carries and you can hear hooting and hollering from every where.

Kool place to go Golf. Its a little too expensive. I recommend you practice in the driving range.

Tecolote Canyon is a hidden gem in San Diego. I’m not one that is typically fond of executive golf courses however this one is not your ordinary executive course. Unlike most executive courses were you really only need a 5 iron, 7 iron, wedge, & putter. This course requires you to bring all your clubs. There are four par 4 holes on this course that allow you to even break out the driver.
Make sure your iron game & short game are up to snuff because this course will definitely test your skills. Oh, & you better hit the ball straight or you’ll be chasing them in the hillside or going to buy more balls after your round. I live less than a qtr mile from this course & play it regularly. Definitely one of my go to courses when I want to get a quick round in. I highly recommend this course!

My friends and I have been coming to Tecolote Canyon Golf Course for close to fifteen years, and it’s a fun place to play. That’s not to say it’s the perfect course — it can be difficult and the quality of the fairways range from merely ok to good depending on the time of the year — but there’s always good deals and fun to be had.
Tecolote IS an executive course, meaning it’s something like fourteen par threes and four par fours, but don’t let that fool you, the course is tough, and thanks to a course-​length creek, you WILL lose golf balls. Despite the challenge, though, it takes just the right amount of time to finish a round. So if you’re teeing off early, it’s nice to have the rest of the day ahead of you.
Tecolote also has an adequate clubhouse and driving range. Again, nothing here is all that special, it’s just a quick, challenging, and affordable course. I’d recommend it to beginners and those just looking for a good time alike.

San Diego = blessed with perfect golf weather. I used to play at this course every weekend with the work crew. It was super cheap to play mid-​day even with a cart rental. Add $ 10 for a cart rental.

The course is narrow. If you are a straight shooter, you will not have a problem losing your ball. If you are playing with a bunch of drunk idoiots– good luck.
