I brought my Accord to get oil change and tire rotation. Ryan was humble and helpful. Definitely will go back again.

So the man working was really nice when talking to I came in for a diagnostic for my failed smog check but he completely missed what was actually wrong with my car and I’m wondering if it was intentional or he really thought what he prescribed was going to help. I had failed NO but nothing else and Ryan said that I needed to get fuel induction service and if that didn’t work it was possible that the catalytic converter wasn’t working. I have family in the OC who I knew I was going to visit so I called CA gold star mechanics in the area and asked for their opinion I kid you NOT all 5 I called said fuel induction would not help my problem and I finally went to this mechanic Fred at Hi tech automotive off of Katella in garden grove and he told me «I’ll do the fuel induction service if you want me to BUT I know that will not cause the NO rating if you passed everything else…» He’s right from my own research what would a fuel induction service do if HC reading is fine. Anyways Fred fixed my car up great and passed smog! He didn’t charge for diagnostic which he included in the total cost of the repair which Ryan wouldn’t. I don’t know if I would ever come back.

I’ve been going to Ryan for years now, for both of our cars.
He’s the best mechanic we’ve ever had.
Our experience this weekend made me write this review.
My wife’s car had a bit of an emergency issue on Sunday and we had to pull into a gas station. I popped the hood, realized there was nothing i could do because one of the belts was shredded.
Desperate, I reached out to Ryan. This was around 4pm on a Sunday. His day off. Monday is also his day off.
Long story short, he offered to drive in from his home (not a quick drive), and fix my wife’s car on the spot.
I don’t know of ANY other mechanic who would do that for a customer.
Except this guy.
Ryan is unique, honest, trustworthy, reliable, and extremely knowledgeable.
He is THE BEST.

From the first phone call with Ryan to picking up my car I was very pleased with the customer service. Not only was I quoted a lower price than all other local repair shops, he also explained to me and broke down the charges and what would be the best action for my money. And the work/​parts are warrantied, even if I were out of town and something happened it would be covered, super cool! Scheduling was quick and easy, he also brought up a few things about my car that needed attention and let me know what was important and what was minor. I will definitely recommend him to my friends as well as continue to use him for my car’s needs and maintenance.

Ryan at Mode Automotive is the best! I am a car guy and have known many mechanics over the years — and hands down Ryan is the most dependable, capable, honest mechanic I have ever known. Never an «up-​sell» like his neighbors up the hill, but if needed, a note on things that may need future attention.
Call him and let him know your problem and he’ll tell you right up front if he can help you or not. He handles my BMW as well as my Ford pickup. A pleasure to do business with.

No service if you bring your own parts even from the dealership (with proof of purchase at dealership). This company doesn’t want to be held responsible for a part that might be defective? Oh well.

My 2008 Prius has been acting up, so I decided to try Ryan. He had such an amazing reviews here and google, so I figured why not. Well, not only did he not disappoint, he surpassed my expectations. He was super easy to work with, quick, and really awesome. I have been looking for a mechanic I can trust, and I found one. I am super grateful. Thank you Ryan!

Ryan is awesome!!! Great and honest mechanic. I would send my wife, mother or grandmother/​grandfather for auto repairs without any fear that they would be taken advantage of. I’m bummed that I will be moving to North County and won’t have easy access to this shop any longer.

We have been taking all of our cars to Mode Automotive for years now. Ryan can pretty much work on any make or model of car. He has EXTREMELY fair prices. He is honest. I have never felt pressured to have work done. He will say «this can wait until the next service». Over all this is the place to have your car fixed, maintained, or overhauled.

We have taken our car here for about six months. This guy is professional, honest, and even nice to talk to! He provides an excellent product

I had to get the tranny fluid flushed out on my fiances car and after reading these reviews decided on Mode. He finished up in about 35 – 45 minutes and the wait was better than your average auto shop in terms of smell, cleanliness, a nice TV, comfy couches, coffee selection and I could see that there was a deli right across the street which may come in handy if I had a longer wait. Ryan was a nice, articulate guy with a good sense of humor. When it comes to auto repair you want someone you could trust and Ryan seems like a good guy. Will use again, the car is running great.

Granted I’ve only had my oil changed there, I will be coming back, and will update on any future visits. Ryan seems to be a genuinely nice guy and took the time to go over other work that my car may need in the future with me. He didn’t try to up-​sell or push other services on me. His explanation was easy to understand, he wasn’t rushed or frustrated about speaking with me about my car. It’s hard to find an honest, trustworthy mechanic, and I’m hoping I’ve found mine in Ryan!

The customer service and care provided at Mode automotive are nothing less than exceptional. Ryan is an upfront and honest mechanic, and let’s face it, that is hard to come by. Not only is his customer service top of the line, but his work is guaranteed (he has a warranty to back up the work he does). Ryan was fantastic to work with. Upfront and honest, I appreciated that he diagnosed my car without pushing me to get additional service done at his shop. He told me what would need to be fixed at the minimum to have the car functional, and what findings he felt didn’t need to be fixed.
I came in for an oil change (and diagnostics came w/​it) for $ 29.99. I’m only giving ⁴⁄₅ instead of ⁵⁄₅ b/​c it did take a little longer than I had anticipated — took an hour instead of 30 – 45 minutes that Ryan estimated. It’s ok, it’s not a huge delay, but if you’re just going for a drive-​in/​speedy oil change, this may not be the place for you.
The waiting room is a little bare at the moment but quite nice. There’s free Keurig coffee, a TV, and plenty of magazines. Only request would be to put more comfy chairs! The couch is an awkward 2-​seater; once one customer sits there there’s no more space for a stranger.

Let me start out by saying I did not have service done at this shop, but the customer service I received was outstanding and deserved for me to write a quick review and rating.
I submitted a request for an appointment at their shop online, and left my number for contact. Within about 3 minutes, I got a call from Ryan informing me that he didn’t have anything left for this week, but would be more than happy to schedule something for next week. I’m getting ready to move in a couple days, so It didn’t work out. But just based on the brief exchange I had him, if I was staying in town I would be bringing my car here for whatever I needed done.
You’ll have to judge the quality of their work based on your own experience and other reviewers, but in terms of their customer service, I’m blown away.

You know that ominous feeling you get when you need to see the dentist or a professional when something breaks or needs routine maintenance. OR, better yet, when as a woman you feel/​are mistreated at any given auto service shop because they try to up sell/​manipulate you (because women know nothing of cars… sarcastically)
You don’t get that with Ryan! (: Imagine trust, reliability, and professionalism all wrapped up in this small business.
I drive a 2007 Ford Escape. From the first time I took my car there for a major car problem, I have not found another mechanic to service my car because he’s awesome. He has fair prices and has earned my business. Plus, I get these helpful email reminders for when my car is in need of routine service and I am able to book appointments online.
You know it’s a great thing when your super skeptical mechanical engineering boyfriend calls Ryan on the phone, speaks about my car’s issues, and gets off the phone with a smile on his face and says, «I think I have a man crush.»
He sees Ryan too. lol

It was my first time bringing the car for some issues. Im giving a review on the service inspection he provided. It was good, he provided detailed report on what needs to be done and itemized all the parts that are needing to be replaced. I was somehow impressed on this, first time I saw an auto mechanic providing this…
Before I brought my car in I already had several auto mechanics looked /​checked at it, so I have information to compare with. Anyways, after comparing data and notes from Mode Automotive with other auto mechanic something was not appropriate and it did kind of raise a red flag. So I decided to have another Auto-​Mechanic to work on my car instead.
Service wise and the manner he (Mode Automotive) approaches the customer in discussing the issue and what needs to be done was good.

Ryan diagnosed a really difficult no-​start issue on my Saturn caused by a faulty fuel pump– one that many other mechanics in the area had been unable to diagnose.
From fuel pumps, to oil changes, to 60k services, to transmission fluids– Ryan has been my mechanic for the last 25,000 miles, 3 years, and every problem he’s fixed has not needed a second repair.

It’s a one-​man-​show. He answers the phones, writes the receipts, does the oil changes, and adjusts the TV in the waiting area– he is the throw back to old-​style mechanics you got to know and trust.
All jokes aside. This is what I mean:
You know Ryan will stand by his work because that’s HIS name on the shop– not some manager, HIS hand that you shake at the end of any service– not some receptionist, and the money and reputation HE builds with YOUR business IS his family’s livelihood.
That’s trust you can’t buy.

There’s the old saying, «You want it done? Or you want it done right?» As a broke college student (now broke young professional), I can only afford to get repairs done once. And Ryan does his repairs right.
While he is certainly not the bottom of the barrel in terms of prices– he is competitive. More importantly, after he fixes it, you can bet damn sure you won’t be back.

Ryan is an amazing mechanic! Very knowledgable, personable, and honest. I recently moved from LA and have used the same mechanic for 15yrs on my Acura’s, so I was hesitant to find a new one in SD. I was so pleased to find Ryan, b/​c his approach was very similar to Jay my previous mechanic. He was able to fix my brakes, change the oil, replace the door locking mechanism, and have Hertz pick me up and get me a rental car: all for a reasonable price.
So grateful to have found a new mechanic for my beloved RSX — thanks, Unilocalers!
