Navy Federal Credit Union

If you value ATM cash deposits as I do, you should know the reliability is spotty at best. Not all Navy Fed ATMs accept deposits and those that do are hit and miss. I frequently have to drive across town to another branch to make my deposits and it’s getting old. Their APRs and APYs are nothing spectacular and rather standard as far as credit unions go but their teller lines are well beyond standard. Be prepared for extraordinary waits at all branches all the time. Our Military and DoD members deserve better!

I love Navy Federal Credit Union! Is really the Best Bank out there I can honestly say I’ve had several different type of banks an they all made me overdraft for dumb reason an never return my money anyways NFCU is awesome I have my car loan and a Reward credit card an I love their mobile app it’s so convenient I check it all the time did I mention everyone is always so friendly an they really care about their customers 5 stars for sure.

Long lines and slow service. Unfortunately, this one is closer to work.
They also don’t have a military first policy. I’ve typically seen a policy of uniformed military head of line privilege at other NFCUs, but not here. If I absolutely hadn’t needed to come in person I wouldn’t have.

Navy Federal Credit Union is my main bank, and the service at this location is great! The tellers are always friendly and kind, though I rarely go inside for transactions, as I’m always using the outside ATM. They have great rates on all of their loans, and they make the process of getting credit very easy. This is in a very convenient location, with a Walmart, Home Depot, CVS, Starbucks and other unique shops all within walking distance. NFCU gets my vote for best Credit Union in San Diego.

I’ve been a member since 1990. In that time they’ve gone from a place that was helpful, truthful and pleasant to do business with to treating customers like they are nameless, faceless numbers that they hold at least a little bit in contempt. Have never taken out a loan from anyone else since I joined. Have paid off 6 cars a year or two early each, have paid off a mortgage early and now own my home outright. They sent me a credit card I did not ask for but I thought I would get rid of the Chase credit card I carry and do everything through Navy Fed. They refused to give me less than a 14.9% interest rate even though Chase gave me 7% because they said I didn’t have a history with their credit card department. Did I mention I had almost a quarter of a million dollars in my various accounts at the time? I cut up their card but did not cancel it as I was advised that could damage my credit score. I DID notify them by snail mail, email and telephone that I did not under any circumstances want any automatic increases in credit limit. Fast forward 2 years. Needed a credit card to send with my child for freshman year of college. Thought since I still had this card open I would send it with him. A month before he leaves for school I get a letter from Navy Fed telling me due to my credit rating they increased the credit limit on this card from $ 6000 to $ 16,000. I called them hopping mad with my explanation I would have to be brain dead to send a card with a $ 16,000 limit with an 18 year old with no credit card experience. I insisted they fix the situation as I had expressly forbidden any automatic increases. Though I could pull up the email I sent and had a copy of the snail mail letter stating no automatic increases ever they said their copies «must have been lost somehow». There solution was for me to have the credit limit lowered back down. I objected that would affect my credit score. They agreed it would but said there was nothing else they would do. Odd that my credit rating was good enough to raise my credit card limit $ 10,000 against my expressed wishes but it wasn’t good enough for them to lower my interest rate (I asked).
Fast forward again 3 years. My daughter tried to get a home loan through them. Long story short, she lost one house after paying for an appraisal, etc., because Navy Fed left the paperwork on somebody’s desk when that person went out of town on vacation. She jumped through hoops to get all the paperwork done on another house only to find out when she went to sign the loan papers they were going to charge her 2 percentage points higher interest than they had said the loan was going to be for. She then had the option of signing or losing the second home and the money she had put out to satisfy their requirements for a mortgage. I wish I had known she was going to go through Navy Fed before she did so, I would have counseled her to run, screaming as if her hair was on fire, as fast and a far as was needed to get away from doing business of ANY kind with Navy Federal.

Just all sorts of bad. The wait is pretty horrible but my experience exceeds that. I went in for a vehicle loan with pretty awesome credit for about 25 grand and while putting in all my info LUCY the (worst of all time) financial rep asked me the same question must have been about 3 or 4 times. By the time we were done she said it would be approved soon and to come back the next day. So I came back only to my surprise she messed up all the numbers and asked for a 40 thousand dollar loan. I had to cancel the loan and reapply. THANKS FOR WASTING MY TIME. if you can’t input simple numbers let alone understand what active duty means please step aside and let real qualified financial reps do the job.

So I came in early, to avoid the horrible line, and avoid it I did. I needed to send a Western Union however, and though there were only five other people in the waiting room, they only had one representative assisting people, dragging things out to almost an hour. You can’t win with this place.

I have been inside once, it was about lunch time for those in the military and I have to say it was like waiting in line to get on a roller coaster.
there was only four tellers working which did no make since they have at least double that. There is a handicap line with its own teller which I believe is awesome if someone actually worked it. honestly by the time I got to the front of the line someone finally came.
So if you can avoid going inside I suggest you do it. I would say do it first thing when they open but I dont know how busy it would be then.
Other then that it is a great bank. havent had any trouble so far, but the reason I have them a low rateing is because they make it extreamly difficult to use the internet banking and calling them on the phone. you have to have this code in order to do it, it is really annoying it should be simple to check my account balance but it sucks.

2 stars because the wait line and customer service line take forever and a day! But the ladies are very nice… but if its lunch time forget it they are out! Two windows just shut with 11 people in line and one window open! Really people! Lol busy day 2 tellers non busy day 3 people on line 4 tellers

Don’t usually go inside but had to do transactions & was referred to costumer service. Had a wonderful experience! Staff are very courteous & didn’t have to wait long. The person who finally solved my transaction issues was Ray. Excellent costumer service, very polite & professional. Offered more information than I anticipated. Had my online banking account up & running while waiting for another business transaction to complete (change of PIN. Overall, great use of my time, killed multiple birds with one stone! What a pleasant visit to the bank!

I feel that this branch was meant to be a low volume location. However with so many personal and their families living in the surrounding neighborhoods, it is not low volume at all. With that said you might guess where I’m going with this.
Yes the wait time is much longer than accepted. I have visited both the Eastlake and Mission Valley branches and there is no wait time at those locations. I don’t know if it is a shortage of tellers or some other factor.
However I must say the majority of the staff is very friendly and when I finalley do get to the window I’m out in less than two minutes. Oh and there’s a darling banker by the name of Lucy who is fantastic she polite and funny, she makes the wait not feel so bad.

I have no idea why this branch is so useless. Customer service is the shittiest I’ve ever experienced. I hate coming here but when I do I try to make it in early. It’s just conveniently close.

Navy Federal has to be the worst bank ever! Customer service there is useless. They can never seem to do anything and always makes an appoinment for the people in the back to meet with you. The lines are crazy long and out the door because they have to make sure their account is ok! I am glad I switched banks a couple years ago and will never return to navy federal! There are other banks that support the military, choose a different one!

This is the worst of the San Diego branches. Be prepared to stand in line behind military spouses with screaming children, disgruntled retirees and impatient sailors on their lunch break for a good 20 minutes on a good day. Don’t even bother going after pay day, you’d save time driving to another branch rather than waiting here.
