Nicholas Gentry Magic

I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 2 is because the show got me to visit the Lafayette Hotel for the first time… And Nick made me laugh. Laughter is worth a star!
I’ve seen a lot of supremely talented magicians up close and personal in my time so I found his magic to actually be somewhat rudimentary though his delivery was entertaining and his audience participation was great! The room was intimate and it’s got to be extremely difficult to try and entertain such a small crowd week after week. He certainly had great energy and I enjoyed myself. I got my tickets through fill a seat so I didn’t pay for them and I’m not sure what they cost regularly so I can’t comment on value. It was a great value for me :-) I give him and his cute assistant and A+ for effort but if it was supposed to be a serious magic show I would give the magic a D. The one trick that I was most entertained with was where he had us phone a friend and have them pick out a playing card and remember it and he ended up taking that card out of the deck, backwards, in a bag that he had hanging up. Not sure how he did that one but that one was fun! Keep following your dream, Nick! For that I really admire you, and thanks for the laughs!

Not at all funny or clever. Less than 20 people in a dingy meeting room at Lafayette Hotel on El Cajon Blvd, enduring sub par children’s magic tricks and a cheesy PowerPoint presentation. What an absolute waste of time and money.

Nicholas was excellent in his magic and the great message and philosophy was insightful.
I volunteered for the collar and sword trick. Definitely changed me as a person. When we face our fears, most of the time they end up really being False Evidence Appearing Real (FEAR).
At Nicholas’ show, I saw great magic, heard excellent music, had a great «aha» moment personally, and thoroughly enjoyed my date night with my husband– a BIG win-​win-​win-​win.

Magic and comedy meets philosophy! Not only was this such fun, it was insightful and a completely unique experience. Gentry is a tremendously skilled as a magician, but also an incredible human being with a very powerful and inspired vision. Such a great night out!

Combining magic, story telling and philosophy in a fun, well thought out and smoothly delivered way was a a fantastic surprise. Each story lead to a magic event that reinforced the philosophical concept. If higher education was taught like Nick performs, everyone in the world would have a PhD.

Well that was some good, clean fun. I enjoyed Nicholas’ philosophical twist on magic. Socrates (his bunny) was almost as cute as his assistant. The show suited my «short attention span theater.» I agree, he’s more a story-​teller than magician per se. Quite unique, in a good way. I hated the jacka$$ in the first row. Why do people have to be a-​holes? Best of luck to him as he’s a recent transplant from the Iron City.

I really want to give 1 star but I did think he was very good with a young girl that got called up to help. Doing magic shows for kids might be a good idea for Nick. The magic and philosophy were sub-​par. The magic tricks reminded me of the ones I used to see at the magic shop in Seaport Village as a kid.

Saw his act at the comedy palace on Clairemont Mesa blvd. Fantastic close up magic interspersed with comedy and philosophy. Intimate setting means you can try and catch what his hands are doing (but you won’t). His story telling made me feel like I was hanging out with my most interesting friend at a party. On the drive home my wife and I ended up having a conversation about the philosophy and some of the really deep questions he covers in a very light way. I’d go again.

A fun hour of a magic show with a side of philosophy. He is fun and imaginative. He offers his show to smaller venues.

My boy friend and I went to his show tonight and it was very funny and philosophical. Its not typical cheesy magic and we had a good time.
Some how my boy friend had a mix up on his website but when we arrived at the show they made sure we were taken care of and refunded the left over money in the same night. Very happy with the service and the show

Mr. Gentry was the talk of my housewarming party last Saturday June 27^th. He was funny, mysterious and very engaging with our guests. He was punctual and very professional. He did well with our mixed age group, from toddlers to grandparents. I can’t think of one thing he could have done better. Definitely made our get together a very memorable one. I am definitely recommending him for other people’s parties and any future parties we have. Look no further this is the guy to hire.

Hired Nicholas for my kids bday party. There were a large amount of kids but adults as well. Everyone loved the show. I was receiving compliments all night about his performance. We were all still talking about it the next day. His «manager» and himself were very nice and personable. True professionals in every aspect. He would quickly adjust his act according to the audience response. We had other entertainers that night but none received as many compliments as he did. He even did some close up magic for my kids after his show. He communicated with me constantly from the minute I inquired about his services all they way up to his exact arrival. I truly can’t say enough about Nicholas Gentry. Please hire him, you will not be disappointed!!!

I tried the trick on Nick’s website and was blown away. I had my friend try it and she was blown away. I tried it two more times and I am still blown away. I sat through Nick’s show and it was so good. I felt like a 5 year old watching their first magic show (just for the record I don’t generally like magic shows) This show is really good. Nick is an excellent host and is also funny and totally captivates the audience. This show is on the sophisticated side and more intellectual than most I have seen lately.

Hired Nick to perform for a senior group and he was terrific. He was well rehearsed and his stories are perfect for an adult audience. The group really enjoyed him and I have already booked him to come back. I definitely recommend him.
