History

Established in 1988.

Dr. Paul J. Styrt graduated college at UCSD, his dental training at The Harvard School of Dental Medicine and his Orthodontic residency at UCLA before returning to San Diego to begin his private practice of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. He now has three Pediatric Dentist associates to assist in offering specialized dental care to children starting at age one and continuing to age 18. For the past 20 years Dr. Styrt has devoted his business to creating the premier practice for Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry by assembling a very talented team of highly trained, gifted individuals dedicated to delivering Simply Spectacular Smiles in a warm, caring, and highly professional environment. His business continues to thrive as one of the top Orthodontic and Pediatric Dental practices in San Diego and southern California, specializing in early Interceptive Orthodontics (ages 3 – 10), standard Orthodontics (ages 11 – 18), Adult Ortho.(ages 19 – 90), and Invisalign for teens and adults.

Dr. Paul J. Styrt graduated from UCSD, obtained his dental training and degree from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and completed his orthodontic training at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He also met his wife at UCLA and has been married since 1989 when they relocated to beautiful San Diego! They have two terrific sons and one dog, and a love of San Diego and all it has to offer. He is also involved in the local community, local charities and enjoys coaching his son’s sports activities. Dr. Paul Styrt was a competitive triathlete and long-​distance cyclist who still enjoys swimming and cycling.

Dr. Styrt provides the best care possible for his patients, and part of that means having wonderful people on staff. His entire team is comprised of very talented, experienced and dedicated professionals who care about each and every one of our patients. We are passionate in what we do, we love making people smile, and we have fun every day in our office!

There are not many times I actually write a good review. And quite honestly Dr Styrt has excellent review; so why bother. But out of respect I wanted to respond to the one star review. 30 years ago, when I was in college I went to the dental school and was told I needed extensive surgery. 7 years later Dr Styrt treated me and at 50 my smile continues to «stun». No over treatment there. Plus I will most likely have my teeth forever. My children, by getting palate expansion and two phases of orthodontia avoided possible adult surgery. Not «over treatment» at all. Just creating the «perfect smile». Crucial to prevent caries, etc well into adult life. Things that are worthwhile cost money. I would never bargain shop in this venue.

Full disclosure I work for Dr Styrt! I enjoy being part of this family, and I look forward to going to work everyday! I chose to bring my family to Dr. Styrt’s office because I trust him and have witnessed the fabulous results! He truly is the best in all of San Diego just check the UT tribune best of 2015! My son Austin is 17 years old (who is a varsity football player), wanted to finish his case prior to the playing football at Mt Carmel High School! Being true to his time point Dr. Styrt finished Austin with an amazing smile. Austin is proud to tell every person that ask where to he went for proper treatment and the best results! He was told 18 months of treatment time and finished in 9 months! My husband Philip is 36 years old and in treatment now and a full time Marine! His time is scheduled for 24 months of treatment and he will finish in 12 months! As a child he dreamed of having a perfect smile and now he is on his way to achieve it! Military members need to finish their cases in rapid time before deployments and pcs changes! That is why Philip uses AccelDent to speed up his treatment and it soothes any discomfort from the braces and rubberbands. The teeth are looking amazing and he is nearly finished and it has been a breeze for him! Dr. Styrt is honored to help our Vets in every way he can from candy buy back in October to the wounded warrior funds and much more! He is happy to help any way! I wouldn’t trust anyone else!

Let me start off by saying that everyone in this office is super happy. Everywhere I turned there was a smiling face looking back at me.
I was welcomed by Janet and Patty at the front desk and the first thing I noticed was how awesome their teeth looked. Everytime they smiled I heard *bling*.
There was a 10 minute wait because they were running a bit behind but I didn’t mind because I wasn’t on a time crunch at that moment. However, once I was seen, it was nonstop. Photos and X-​rays were taken. Then Patty escorted me to her office to explain part of the care plan that my dentist sent over. All of this was very basic information.
Then, Dr. Styrt came in. He did an exam and dictated notes to Patty. When there was a term I didn’t understand, I asked and the question was thoroughly answered.
Once the exam was over, the three of us gathered at the desk and Dr. Styrt did a classic therapy move and asked «if we were to do orthodontic treatment, what would the outcome look like for you»? After I gave my explanation, Dr. Styrt explained the different methods on how I could achieve my goals. My how braces have changed over the years.
After Dr. Styrt left the office, Patty gave me some information. But what I was really waiting for was the price. The national average for braces is $ 6600. This office was $ 300 below that for my treatment plan. It’s still high but I wasn’t blown away by shock. Patty offered a payment plan and said if I needed to make any adjustments then we could work it out. Thank goodness because as a struggling grad student, I ain’t got it like that so it’s nice to know these numbers can be moved around.
Overall, it was a good experience and I appreciated the time taken to answer every question thoroughly.

I took my kids to the dental practice for over 5 years. Dental care was fine, but then the orthodontist wanted to step in. My daughter has a single tooth in cross bite, and Dr Styrt wanted to treat with an expander. Luckily I sought second opinion who thought it was unnecessary. Fast forward several years and I finally get different dentist who agrees that spacer completely unnecessary, and that bite guard for my son (for night grinding theoretically) was not necessary. This practice over treats. Hygienists are super nice. Office beautiful (but at what cost)… I am very glad to be going elsewhere.

When I was a young child through my teenage years, I saw Dr. Styrt for my orthodontic needs. I am now grown with children of my own and I still get complimented on a daily basis about my smile :) My oldest son is 10 and has been seeing Dr. Styrt since he was 5. He is on his last round of braces! The staff is so nice and caring every time we call or come in for an appointment. They genuinely care about their patients. The office is so beautiful and welcoming! Dr. Styrt is an amazing man and I will continue to send my kids to him as long as he is practicing

Great orthodontic office. Very nice location, brand new. My daughter absolutely loved their contests and rewards. They have a nice, original way to keep the kids involved in their treatment. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the prices are a bit on the upper range. But in the end, you get what you pay for. Recommended.

We have been coming to Dr Styrt for nine years. My daughter loves to come to dr Styrt for dentistry and now orthodontia.
The office is amazing. The folks here incredibly kind and caring. I love the facilities and all transactions are a breeze.

Dr. Styrt’s treatment is well worth the money. I’ve had two other sets of braces from other orthodontists who were cheap — and I got what I paid for. I came to Dr. Styrt hoping that he would fix my teeth from the sub-​par job that my previous orthodontists had done. I’m so glad I decided to spend the extra money by coming to him, because now my teeth are perfectly straight. He’s also very patient and it’s obvious that he knows what he’s doing. They even have free coffee!

So rarely can I sum up any business operation with only a single word, and that word has never been «perfect»…until now! I have been a customer of Dr. Styrt and his staff for about a year. Every visit has been quick, relaxed, friendly, enjoyable — perfect. This is a quality operation and Dr. Styrt has an amazing talent for running an ortho-​shop. I finally got my braces off a week ago and the results were excellent. They really brought out my best smile and, as strange as it may sound, my mouth feels more comfortable than before I got braces. I even got a personal note from one of the staff (Stacie P) in the mail to congratulate me and remind me about the big day upcoming (as if it would have slipped my mind;) and when they got done removing my braces, Dr. Styrt handed me a gift bag with some very choice swag!
If you are in need of orthodontia, go here first. And if you decide to shop around, you would do well to go back here last. Dr. Styrt is the best at what he does and I was surprised to find that the cost for his treatment is commensurate with the other (lesser) operations out there. GETCHA SMILE ON!!!

This office is the Nordstrom of orthodontics. Seriously. I scheduled a consultation. Every staff member is very nice on the phone and in person. I was left a voicemail with thorough directions to the office. I was given a tour upon arrival. I sat down to discuss what I was there for and was given bottled water and a notepad. I also received a hand written note in the mail after. Nice touch!
Dr. Styrt came in during the consult and he obviously knows what he’s doing. He clearly specializes in Invisalign and can handle the most difficult cases. I did feel really silly with my dinosaur retainer in his luxury office but I had to ask if it would help at all. No luck.
All of my questions were answered and I was given pricing along with a packet of info and my tooth photos. It is definitely on the expensive side, especially for my short time frame. Worth it for good care and expertise? Probably so.

My family and I have been patients of Dr. Styrt’s for over fifteen years. My husband, two children, and I all have had orthodontic treatment from him. There is no one better than Dr. Styrt. He cares about every single patient, has treated my children as he would his own, and does amazing work. He is truly a gifted orthodontist. Finally after a follow-​up email and 2 weeks later I received an email from a woman by the name of Tamela who referred to me as a new patient, although I am in fact a return patient. I find it very strange anybody would comment positively on this practice or the staff.

Dr. Styrt is such an amazing ortho. I came in for the first time after moving out of the area of my old ortho & was nervous to trust someone with my teeth. He and his staff quickly put me at ease & truly showed me how much they cared. I am do glad I was referred to such a great man. I was in and out in a reasonable amount of time & kind of enjoyed my time in the office. The location is amazing, the décor is beautiful… I can’t complain about anything. I am on the Invisalign plan & already I see huge changes with the tweaks he made to my original ortho’s plan! I will without a doubt refer him to everyone!

Dr. Styrt is kind, honest and above all does incredible work. I had orthodontic work done as a teenager which due to not wearing my retainer diligently (story of most young people’s lives I daresay), the front four teeth were jutting out in extremely unappealing hillbilly fashion. Instead of getting braces again or even another retainer, Dr. Styrt managed to adjust the retainer my old orthodontist gave me to push my teeth back into place, literally saving me at least hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars. Within TWO WEEKS my teeth shifted back and with a little polishing to disguise a slightly longer front tooth, my smile is nearly flawless. Dr. Styrt is seriously a miracle worker, and his office is pretty sweet. I highly recommended him!
On a side note, the coffee machine in his office makes AMAZING coffee… Don’t miss out.

Wow! This office sets the standards for all dental offices. We get star treatent every time we walk through the door. My children run down the hall extremely excited every time we have an orthodontic and pediatric dental appointment.
The front office staff are very warm and welcoming. The back office staff really seems to know what they are doing and really care about their patients.
Dr. Job is very down to earth. He is very caring always makes my children smile and is very easy to talk to when I have any questions about their dental visits.
We are also patients of Dr. Styrt we love him. He made my daughter feel very comfortable when he did our orthodontic treatment.
My children love alI the contests, prize board, and fun toy tower. They make going to the dentist super fun!

Dr. Styrt and Dr. Job (pedodontist in the office) are both wonderful! They do impeccable work. The office is nice and very comfortable for both children and parents. There are TVs with wireless headphones and a large selection of DVDs to watch during cleanings and check-​ups. The staff if courteous and professional. My children always got the best care here. We had to move but if we still lived in SD we would be loyal patients!

Paul Stryt is an excellent orthodontist. He repaired the work that was not so well done by another orthodontist… for my own smile. I intend to use him also for my own daughter when the time comes.
The other two reviews preceding mine are very good ones. I don’t often mention other reviews in one of my own but they covered many of the bases.
Styrt is Harvard trained (their dental school) just so you get the picture… he’s no schlub. He’s also a master at working in your mouth. The man nestles your head in his work area as though he’s a master jeweler adjusting an exquisite timepiece.
He fitted me with Invisalign braces and then finished up with clear porcelains.
My bite has never been better. When I misplaced my retainers I was horrified. Retainers can be pricey to replace but it’s even worse to not replace them and to allow your teeth to drift back out of line.
Money was a little tight at that time so I was delighted that he gave me the option to replace my lost retainers with an invisilign version for a fraction of the cost. i would highly recommend his invisalign retainers.
Two more pluses to his invisalign retainers:
1) Retainer adjustments can run pricey at this office. Would you believe $ 79 for a few minute adjustment appointment? Yes… believe it. But the invisalign retainers never need adjustment.
2) I used to have odd dreams while wearing my standard retainers from this office. Gum related dreams while I was wearing them. The invisalign retainers that he offers fit only over the tooth area… not involving the roof off your mouth at all. No more weird dreams!

I just got another compliment on my smile. In fact, many people have complimented me on my teeth. This comes long after many tough years of awkward, crooked smiles. I’m much more confident after my treatment, and if you’ve seen me pre-​treatment, you’d understand.
Seeing Dr. Styrt for Invisaligns was probably one of the best things I’ve done for myself. Ok, it wasn’t the cheapest, but with the amount of curls I had in my teeth, I’m surprised I was able to do the Invisaligns at all. My new smile is well worth the price.
This man is an artist when it comes to his work. I worried a lot when he would grind my teeth down with a sanding tool to make gaps so that my huge teeth would come together right. Never doubt an artist! Though he pulled out some of the heavy hardware at times, he was always gentle and patient. My treatment started with Invisaligns but ended with traditional braces for about 6 months. His and his staff’s attention to detail in both forms of treatment is great.
He does orthodontic work for both children and adults. The office is in a great location, well kept, and comforting. The staff was always friendly and helpful when I got there. But after all was said and all work was done, each compliment I get are a testament to the quality of work Dr. Styrt and his staff do.
