Paul’s Locksmith

Thanks to these this business I will never hire a company without looking them up on Unilocal.My experience was similar to the ones described by other Unilocalers. These guys are thieves, they will give you a price on the phone and once they complete the work they will get you an invoice for a much higher total.

They need to rethink how they make their estimates. I was informed that I would only be paying around $ 50 ($ 39.99 for service + $ 10 for the technician to come out).
I was informed that the technician would arrive in about 15 minutes; the technician did not show up until after 45 minutes the call was placed.
When the technician arrived, I was being charged three times the rate I was given. I was being charged $ 159 dollars. $ 159 dollars to push an airbag through my door, and to insert a stick to unlock my door. The work took no more than one-​minute to complete.
I didn’t see the Unilocal post first when I should have, I will also be reporting them to the BBB. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!!

I will always remember to look up Unilocal before hiring anyone through Google search. I actually went through a Paul’s Locksmith at a different location because this phone number does not work. Full on false advertising and grounds for a law suit! They subcontract other locksmiths who totally rook you and create a hire price then what they quoted. Just beware!

Classic bait and switch. Original estimate was $ 10 show up and start at $ 19 for residential lockout. This bedroom door lock is 10 years old and was the cheapest lock/​knob at the time. The onsite estimate was $ 175. I paid $ 10 and sent the guy away — after waiting an hour longer than expected.

This is not an actual locksmith… it’s a locksmith referral service. The person that answers the phone will quote you a very reasonable price, he’ll tell you that «his technician» will call you for more info. Fair enough, but when «his technician» shows up, in an unmarked compact car, red flags should go up. And when «his technician» writes you up an invoice that comes to $ 180, you will get mad. And you should. I sent him away and called another locksmith… one who charged me exactly what he quoted me over the phone.

Wow, Same here. I should have looked them up on Unilocal but when your puppy is freaking out on the other side you are in a rush to get the door unlocked. They said it would be $ 50 – 75 then when they showed up the guy said it was a «Schlag so and so 5 point lock» and is 189 +10 service fee. He waited until I had signed the form and then opened the lock in about 30 seconds.

PLEASE– EVERYONE BEWARE !!!
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
It is a complete and total scam. It is companies like this that make our society difficult.
Long story, but the bottom line is they overcharged for horrible inept service.
I was foolish not to have read reviews before hiring them.

The actual locksmith was nice, but this is a total scam.
I had to get my mailbox re-​keyed. I had to do this when I bought my condo, a couple years ago, it cost me 65 bucks. So when I talked to the dude on the phone and he quoted me 70, that sounded right. It cost me 170, read the other reviews, you will understand… such a scam.

Worst experience of my life! I was played like a sucker! I called to get a spare key made for my car. I explained that I already had a bank key and just needed it cut and programmed. I asked when I could come out and get the key cut and he said they don’t have an office and only do mobile. I was worried about the price for mobile. He asked what make and model. I said toyota corolla and he quoted me $ 120. I confirmed and said, «$ 120?» and he said yes. I thought that’s not bad for mobile. When he arrived he quoted $ 159 + $ 95= $ 245. I said that I was quoted $ 120. The Tech then told me it starts at $ 120. I called to the office and they asked if I wanted to hear my recording. Which I thought was a strange response. Then I went back to the technician and he asked me if I wanted to hear my recording. This is an obvious scam where they quote a lower price to get the technician to your door. The fact that they have this problem so often that they have implemented a recording program where they can email your recording to verify what was said shows that they mislead on purpose. I listened to my recording, the person said, «minimum $ 120» he dropped his voice for minimum and raised it for $ 120 so I wouldn’t hear the work «minimum». I confirmed, «$ 120″ and he said,“yes».
The technician offered to do it at $ 200 but that he wouldn’t get paid for labor. So I gave him $ 230 feeling sorry for him (my thought process was the call out there was probably $ 75 min. so I just paid for the service rather than sending him away). I am now sorry and wish I had just sent him away. This company is scamming people everyday. The worst part is most people are calling because they are locked out of their cars and have to pay the high price. What a scam and the Recording set up proves it. I am in sales and would never mislead and treat my customers this way. This company has no ethics!

This company is a scam. The person answering the phones Lola should not be in business. Do not do business with them.

Called about getting locked out of my mailbox. They were supposed to come out this morning, but after reading these reviews I’m glad I went with my gut and told them I had already taken care of it. This is how my experience went:
Called two days ago around 12pm, woman answers the phone and tells me that there’s no locksmiths available until Thursday and that they’re closing in 15 minutes. What kind of business closes at 12:15 on a Tuesday? Ooooookaaaaay… That struck me as a little odd…
But regardless I book an appointment. After searching online a little more I called a guy who gave me a flat rate of $ 65. So I called Paul’s Locksmith back to get an estimate so I could compare, like I’d imagine most people would do…
The woman picks up, I quickly apologize for calling back so close to 12:15 because I knew they were on their way out of the office but that I just had a quick question. Instead of being polite back to me she starts rambling, telling me «Ma’am, they can not give you a price until they get out there and see what kind of locks you have. every lock is different. There is no way I can give you a price» She seemed to be pretty adamant on that… which was a complete red flag to me. Ended up hanging up on her without canceling my appointment just so I could stop listening to her. Of course, this service is a SCAM. Really, really glad I did not go with them.

Just what everyone else said, advertise $ 20 for a lockout (+ $ 10 service call), the guy shows up and says it’s $ 189 (+$ 10 service call). Technically they say $ 30 minimum, but my car is 16 years old, no complicated electronic locks and it took him more time to get his tools than open the lock. When I called him on his price he came down to $ 90 but I still wouldn’t do anything with them again.

Wow, I called these people yesterday and they really tried to rob me! Not with weapon of course but they sent out a dude and the guy was going to charge me $ 280 to fix my door lock. I could buy a new door with that. I told him no way! And he insisted on me paying him for coming out which cost me $ 35 for him to really do nothing. Here is the catch. I had another dude come out that fixed me door for $ 55 bucks and said the dude was trying to scam me. DO NOT BOOK THESE CROOKS. I told him I would Unilocal him to and he said he didn’t care. I would give negative stars if I could. The lady at the office was nice though but all she did was said «sorry and have a good day»…wow.

SCAM! I didn’t check Unilocal and got exactly what has been reviewed by others. On the internet it looks like I called Paul’s Locksmiths in Carlsbad, CA. A guy shows up in a beat up car with duct tape on it and no company lettering. He is in street clothes, no company shirt. I asked to see his ID before letting him in my house. He shows me some typed up card with his name on it and not his drivers license. I have built a home and done extensive remodel of others, so I know enough about door locks to tell he’s giving me loads of BS! Now he states it’s a $ 10 service charge + labor for each lock + more than $ 19 per lock ‘because mine are special locks’!!! $ 180 to rekey 4 locks, most are just deadbolts. Please!!!
I knew I didn’t want this guy having a key to my house!!!
I told him no and I tried to pay him the $ 10 service fee. He wouldn’t leave! I called a lock smith for security and now I feel very unsafe in my own home. He asked me if I have AAA insurance and he could give me a discount. Then, if I gave him cash he could discount it again. I kept saying NO and the price kept going down. Now I’m mad that he tried to get double the money out of me in the beginning. I asked him to give me the invoice sheet back that had my drivers license and personal info on it. He refused! Now a I have a guy in my house that is mad, won’t leave, knows how to pick locks and has all my personal information.
After I got him out of the house, he gives me a copy of the invoice and takes the $ 10 and my personal information with him. I walked out and got his license plate number. I feel like I just had an attempted robbery in my own home.
I call a reputable locksmith I had used before and they agreed to come same day. I got a lettered truck, uniformed, licensed locksmith who showed me his drivers license. The company charges the industry standard and tells me over the phone exactly what the charges are and there is no such thing as extra labor or an up charge for ‘special’ locks.
The reputable guys know all about the various company and scammers. They are Israli men here on work visas. The companies are the licensed contractor for being a locksmith only. The men they send out to you may or may not be formally trained or licensed. Whether they are bonded and insured is questionable as well. They don’t state if they do background checks on the people they are allowing in your home and can have a key to your home. They bait and switch, as you stand there in need of help or security, to make their money. In some instances, there are some companies that, when they are called to unlock your car, they take the keys and then you have to have a lengthy money war with them to get your keys back. What was $ 79 is now $ 300! Good luck!

I’m going to install a full security system now that I’ve made someone angry that can pick locks and know where I live! Not to mention getting a monitoring service for my personal information.
In the long run, this will cost me way more than I bargained for. Don’t try to save money by finding a cheap locksmith. It’s risky in many ways!

I called them to unlock my garage. They said it would be 10.00 to come out and 29.00 in labor just to open a handle lock. He arrived late then wrote up a service order for 189.00. Listing it as an emergency service. Told me he thinks he will have to drill it out. Told him to pound sand I will drill it out. He tried to argue with me told him to get off my property. SCAM SCAM BAIT AND SWITCH.

I would give 0 stars if I could. I called because of the ad. Lied to me over the phone on the cost. Tried to charge $ 176 so I refused to pay. Said I was going to call someone else at a reasonable cost. Charged me 100 hundred but was extremely rude to me. SCAM ARTISTS

The initial fee they provide over the phone is $ 10 + $ 30 labor. But wanted to charge me $ 150 to unlock the car, which was «estimated» upon arrival. I refused and called another company with $ 50 flat rate. Judging from other reviews they survive off unsuspecting people in a hurry.

This place blows! My little brother called me while I was visiting family out of town and told me he had locked the keys in my car while he was out and about running errands. I called my insurance, and they said it would be about $ 100.00. I thought that was pretty pricey just to open a car door with keys locked inside. So I called Paul’s Locksmith in Issaquah, MI.
The guy who answered the phone was nice, said he would be there in 15 min., and then I asked him what the price would be for the service. He said $ 18 minimum, $ 29 maximum, so I was really stoked. I thought, wow what a great deal! Then a few days later when I got back from visiting family, my little brother told me they actually charged him $ 180. I was like WTF! That’s BULLSHIT! Then I called the company when I got back, and this disrespectful woman answered the phone and wouldn’t talk to me. She kept cutting me off and told me I needed to email my complaint! I emailed them 2 days ago, haven’t heard back! I never do Unilocal reviews, but this place is such a scam, I had to warn other people! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!! They really are scam artists! I wish I would’ve checked Unilocal before I called them.

Handed my husband an invoice that said it would be $ 180!
My husband told him to cancel because we can find a cheaper rate elsewhere and the driver said that it would be A FIFTY DOLLAR LABOR CHARGE BECAUSE HE ALREADY STARTED.
HE HADN’T STARTED A DAMN THING!!!
WHY DIDN’T I LOOK AT REVIEWS BEFORE CALLING THIS CRAP COMPANY???
It was the first number that came up on Google.
I am going to report this to the BBB as well. This company has screwed over one too many people.

Why didn’t I read Unilocal first?
They were close to on-​time and the job was completed and the new keys work in the door. I paid more than 3 times what I expected to pay.
The pricing is a scam. I paid it, and it works, but I’m hoping this review will help you keep your money in your pocket. Sad that I was had by the ads and polite and assuring manner of the person on the phone. :(
