Performance Bicycle

Pricing policy of this store is very much deceiving. They announced a red tag sale with huge discounts but raised the price of nearly every product. Eventually, their price would be higher than normal prices when we would buy without red tag sale. For example, Mavic open pro/​Shimano ultegra FH-​680 rear wheel was priced $ 179 always. But, just before red tag sale begun, their price was raised to $ 299 and put on red tag sale with 20% discount. So the prices are a lot higher than usual and «RED TAG SALE» was a namesake. Same thing happened for pedals and many other products. Very much disappointed to see such a deceiving business tactics as soon as I entered the store.

Jarrid Wong is the most helpful bike mech that I have ever met!

Tiffany (the manager) helped me get a replacement Garmin that was malfunctioning. She was great, took care of the problem quickly even though it was a busy time.

Seems to be hit and miss. Came by during the week and the salesman was great, took a look at my bike and gave me some good advise, 5 star service. I brought my bike back on the weekend and it was tough to get their attention for very long, one guy started then passes off to someone else who passed me to someone else. So I explained what I wanted to do again and again but not sure any of them heard me, 1 star service. Once they finally looked at my bike they agreed with what I was telling them but said they could not take the bike today since they are first come first serve. They suggested I bring it back in a few weeks since they had a tune up coupon out and were super busy with repairs. So here I am on Unilocal looking for another shop.

Jarrid gives excellent customer service: helpful, friendly. Great advice with bike maintenance, selection of bike stands, etc. He is compassionate about bikes and is your go-​to guy!

Very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly service. They did a great job repairing my flat tire.
Only negative thing is the constant marketing and the perpetual sales from corporate. It’s kind of deceptive. The typical 30%, 40%, etc. off the sales price takes it down to the average price on items that can be bought on Amazon. So you’re not saving that much.

After a late working day, Issac and I made it with 5 minutes to spare until closing and the staff members were more than happy to let us shop around to get our last minute supplies for BikeMS. I know this is bad form in general, but I was desperate for new bike shorts, which (literally) saved my butt on Sunday. I swear, I wasn’t as sore as the first day because of my new shorts.
On top of letting us stay in the store an extra 15 minutes, I also had my commuter checks, which took a long time to process. The person helping us was super friendly about it and was really patient despite the long process of each check. Overall, great staff, and found a new pair of shorts that I absolutely love!

This Performance Bike has talent and experience. They are familiar with Commuter Bike checks (although paying the balance with rewards points was a bit tricky) andv were nice to let my friend and I shop even after the store closed. There are other locations with more variety of supplies, but this is good for the basics.

I was sent here by one of their other stores for a cleat. Turns out they didn’t have the part either. Isaac was very accommodating and diffused the situation. He was very helpful

Had a really awesome experience here at the sorrento valley location. After my shitty experience at the Bonita location and some higher assistance from management I was able to get my bike that I really wanted! Staff was nice and able to get me situated and I got a membership which helped me get enough points for a bike trainer all for free! Definitely will be coming back for more things later once I pick up the riding skills!!!
Good thing there was a sale going on plus the double points on Fuji bikes! Great time to buy stuff for your bikes! Definitely saved almost $ 300 on my entire package!

I had a great experience at Performance Bicycle! My sister and I were going out for a long ride, and my tire needed immediate repair. Andreas and Isaac were kind enough to take time out of their busy morning to fix my tire and allow us to get back on the road.

I just wanted to let you how great a job all the folks at the Sorrento Valley Road (San Diego) store are doing. I’ve been Team Performance since about 1999, and they’ve taken good care of me there. Jarrid and the crew at Sorrento always make it a pleasure to walk into the store, get greeted, and have fun buying bike parts and supplies. Great service, great friendly atmosphere.

Excellent service and a very welcoming staff. They went out of their way to assist me in getting the equipment I needed for my bike even though it wasn’t purchased there and also took the time to explain things to me and answer my myriad of questions. –I’ll definitely be back.

Really helpful and knowledgeable. If you buy your bike there, you can bring it in for a tuneup any time and they’ll do it for free.

My first time here, I was looking for a road bike (for a duathalon I signed up for the following week — yes I’m a lagger). Fortunately, Courtney helped me out in finding a bike that was in stock that fit both my budget, my height, and it was on sale! I even found an online coupon before coming into the store. Since I spent a good amount of money, I signed up for their buyer’s club and got enough credits to come back another day and buy road shoes and a bunch of tools all for $ 74 (less than what the shoes actually cost). The worker there (forgot his name) was so helpful and took the time to answer my newbie questions without making me feel rushed, even though there was a line.

First time here. Thank you Unilocal, which provided a $ 6 off $ 29 purchase coupon (the coupon is free) and I also signed up for their email list and immediately got a 20% off coupon emailed to me… headed off there (I never pay full price and knew I’d get a coupon for joining their email list), got SPD cleats and they put them onto my shoes for free (another reviewer said they charge a couple of bucks, but I didn’t pay anything extra… I like the extra touch of great customer service :)
Super nice & friendly worker who took care of us. The bike seat cushion I bought still hurts my booty but he said I could return it no problemo.
Wish they were open a little later than 6pm but other than that, they were helpful and with my coupon, prices were great. Will be back for any of my spin class needs :)

Jerrin is an excellent manager. He won’t hard sell you on anything, and he’ll competently and patiently answer any question you have. Their advice and prices have saved me over $ 4,300 in the past 11 months. I recently had a problem with a carbon bike I purchased from a different Performance. The story is too long to list here, but let me just say that I am a difficult customer to please, yet Jerrin and Courtney did everything that was needed to remedy the problem and keep me a very satisfied customer.
There are 11 other bike shops in the area, and most are great (Ride and UCC especially), but none I like as much as Sorrento Performance.

Sometimes you don’t plan for things in life– they just happen. I just arrived into and was dying to go for a ride. And Torrey Pines is one of my favorite places in the world.
I rode to the top of Torrey Pines and marveled at the beauty.
Then it happened.
I rode over a large gap in the road and got a flat. No one was around. And I had no tubes with me. But I did have a smartphone!
I Unilocaled for the nearest bike shop and called this shop. Doug answered and after holding my breath for a few minutes replied that he would right over! I was amazed! And so ecstatic.
I walked my bike down and sure enough Doug came, changed my tire and put me on the road again!
Now that is customer service!

For this New Year’s Resolution, I thought I’d take up cycling, but on a casual or recreational level. Let’s get real; I’m not exactly in race-​ready condition or svelte enough to rock the tightly fitting gear, but I need to start somewhere. My problem is that I can’t seem to find a decent, affordable bike with an appropriate ride height because I’m a short guy. I don’t want to painfully straddle the frame on larger bikes and I haven’t been able to find a smaller sized frame that doesn’t make me look like a giant circus clown riding a children’s bike. But I digress…
My apologies for breaking character on this particular review. I usually upload several photographs when I’m in Unilocal mode, but I was pressed for time and didn’t have the luxury of taking any pictures.
Performance Bicycle Shop is your typical mid– to high-​end cycling store, located along the industrial stretch of Sorrento Valley, near Torrey Pines, and just south of the affluent neighborhoods by Del Mar and Carmel Valley. Thank goodness that they were open until 6pm on Christmas eve.
The sales associate saw me approaching from the parking lot towards the front doors and promptly greeted me. There weren’t any other customers around, so I had his undivided attention, and we did the usual pleasant chit chat and banter. I was scrambling around earlier that day and was fortunate to grab the last gift card they had in stock for my uncle, the avid cyclist in the family. I was in a hurry, so I didn’t have the opportunity to peruse the store, check out any merchandise, or snap a single iPhone pic.
This Performance Bicycle location is out of the way for me, but it’s the location that my uncle lives nearest. If I was a cyclist that lived nearby, I’d be back for more.
