I wish I could give zero stars because I’m so grossed out by this place. Because of all the negative reviews here, I decided to test things out before committing to the higher than average rates. I paid for a drop in aerobics class and couldn’t believe how disgusting the facility was. Let me just say that the teacher was great. I got a good workout, and he made it fun; however, I couldn’t even stand to do the floor or ball work. The floor was so dirty that my hands were gritty after attempting to do push ups in the class. Then, when we had to lay on our backs and hold the under inflated, grungy ball over head, dirt fell into my eyes! I was so disgusted that I left the class early. Stay away. This place is dirtville.

The Y owes me a refund. After a month the issue is still
not resolved. The manager I spoke to was very rude. I don’t recommend becoming a member.

My husband and I just started coming to the Y at Rancho Penasquitos. The staff are of a younger demographic, but nonetheless, very attentive, friendly and accommodating. The facility itself is clean! What attracted me is their Fitness Center. The equipment isn’t old or run down and there is plenty of variety. The weight room is located in a separate room which is very nice so the space doesn’t get crowded at all. The Y offers wonderful fitness classes, all included in the membership. I’m high impressed with what the YMCA has to offer. As a former member of a big gym, I am highly satisfied with the membership price/​amenities. I am proud to be a member of the Y.

They open at 9am on Sundays. How lame is that. So much for getting some exercise on Sunday before we get busy. Time to take my business to 24-​hour fitness.

The level of inconsistency when it comes to kids being in the pool while the parents are elsewhere in the building is astounding. They even took issue with me being in a lane and him swimming next to me in the roped-​off child-​area (the shallow end) and told me I had to get out to supervise my son, 8 at the time even though he wasn’t doing anything wrong and neither was I.
Two summers ago, they flat out misrepresented what our membership would give us and ended up refunding us our year membership because of it. Supposedly the inconsistencies were worked out and we were assured that if we came back we would not experience that any further.
Alas, my husband decided at the start of this summer (2015) to re-​enroll our family in a year membership (in spite of my protest). And alas, the same rigamarole that we experienced before is still happening. We were told by the director two years ago that once a child tests as able to swim without a parent present that every time we wanted to come we could leave the child, over 8, in the pool without us having to remain in the pool area. Today we were told he has to test (he tested yesterday), and that the next and every time we came in he’d need to test again if we wanted to be in a different area. My son is a week away from 10 years old, which is above their age requirement.
I can’t abide inconsistency when we are paying for something as it’s just unprofessional and makes it so we can’t have a good time since we have to cut through red tape with every visit.
I only go as a favor to my husband, who wants to work out rather than watch a child in a pool the whole time. I’d like to work out or swim in my own lane too, but with them talking out both sides of their face in the same conversation I never know what’s allowed, what’s not, whether we have to test, or not, and whether I should come dressed to exercise or if I should just wear my street clothes. It’s ridiculous how unprofessional and disorganized this organization is. My stress level goes up with the thought of having to go there. That’s just not okay.

Been a member here for a year and its a nice smaller facility. Outdoor pool for the kids is great. Indoor pool is nice for laps. It isnt a big facility and there are certainly a lot of kids and families. Overall a nice place with generous staff.

I truly enjoy this place, they have so much to offer for the entire family, I just recently joined but before joining they offered my family and I two weeks free to check out everything they have to offer, and I just gotta say it’s great my kids really enjoyed the child watch they are very attentive with each child and the gym and fitness classes are great and have very flexible schedules. This place is clean and the staff is really nice

I would give them zero stars, but that’s not an option. These people are nuts. I just paid 20 dollars for my 8 year old to swim with her friend for 30 minutes. If you are not a member you, as an adult, have to pay to just step in even if you don’t swim or do anything other than sit. RIDICULOUS! I also think their membership prices are way to high compared to other private gyms like LA fitness or 24 hour fitness which is just around the block. So much for their non profit organization blah blah blah. Their open swim hours are ridiculous too, 9 am to 3:30pm and then 8pm to 9 pm, so if you have school age children forget it, you won’t make it after school. Or you can take them for half an hour and pay a fortune I’m am still in shock that they charged me 20 dollars for 2 children to swim 30 minutes. We were really late and I didn’t want to disappoint the kids. It was almost 2 pm, and they refused to give me a discount. They’re a joke. Don’t waste your money, go to the Poway pool. They have trampolines, the pool is clean and huge, lots of lifeguads too and and they charge 2 dollars per child!!! Enough said.

I love the swimming pool and exercise programs here as well as the exercise equipment.

Signed up for 3 year old private swim class because the private companies nearby make it very difficult to schedule. They were accommodating and the lesson was good. The pool was warm and they have a great splash pad and water slide for summertime. Best part is they let you free swim during the lesson with your other kids and also a hot tub so moms can exercise or relax during swim class if you are a member. The membership plus the classes were pretty competitive with local private companies. Glad we found this place! Locker rooms are great and everything was clean

We became members over the summer and have really enjoyed many things the Y has to offer. My kids enjoyed the pools as well as the sports programs. I’ve made good use of the gym (wellness center)
The equipment in the gym is well maintained and the trainers are friendly and willing to help. I’ve never had to wait for a machine, even at peak hours.
The locker room is clean as well as the rest of the facility. We’ve used the childcare services a couple of times and my children enjoyed their time there.
Overall I’d say they is an open and welcoming place. The employees are friendly and the Y has much to offer members.

Been a member for about a month. The pool is nice for the kids. The first exercise class I tried to attend was delayed about a half hour because the teacher did not show up. The spin class I attended today was great — I think the classes will be hit or miss depending on the instructor. The gym is smaller than other Y’s — my husband commented that it was crowded after work hours. Overall we will continue based on convenience and being child-​friendly, but it’s not amazing by any means.

Love using the pool. Great water features for the kids. Large area that is only a foot deep for small kids. Then goes to 2 feet to 4 feet at the deepest part. Inside pool is for laps. There is also a hot tub inside.

The worst facility, don’t become a member and pay the outrageous fees! The staff don’t have a clue, facility is dinky and dirty! Except for a few employees no one knows anything about fitness. pools are constantly closed. don’t become a member, ever.

We just joined YMCA solely for my Daughter. They offer so many activities that we know she would enjoy. We started her in swim class & she loves it! We’re looking forward to many more classes.
The facility is clean & organized. The staff are very friendly & helpful.

Don’t bother to join if you work 9 to 5.
They’ve cut their evening water aerobics classes by 25%.
They don’t allow enough room for the participants in the remaining 3 evening classes. They (dangerously) pack 26+ people into a limited portion of the pool that is meant for 18 — 20 participants. With water aerobics, the movements are big and when the legs and arms get moving, people get smacked! Last night two ladies cracked their heads together and I went home with rope burns from being pushed up against the lane line rope.
They don’t have to care — the ladies just keep paying their monthly dues to keep the place running while they cater to the one-​and-​done swim class participant.
HOWEVER, the instructors are terrific — they just don’t get a chance to give you a good work-​out because it’s overcrowded.

I recently transferred to this Y from the Escondido because its significantly closer. However, since I’ve been here I have not had a good experience. They only half Inforce their policies, bags in the gym, and my daughter has more potty accidents than any other gym! This gym is very small and there are no cables. For the kids activities everything is so split up and it’s hard to schedule any of the extras like gymnastics, football, ect because there is no way to be to all of them at the same time. The pool is very nice, but there is nowhere for the kids to play when it’s cool. I think I’ll take the extra drive and head back to Edcondido where they are family friendly, have more to offer, and treat you with respect.

This review is solely based off me taking my daughter for her swimming lessons.
The pool is always well maintained and the entire facility is always clean and looking new. The staff is young and they can be brats sometimes, but they do have that «summer-​job-​fresh out of high school» look so it gets a pass, heck I’ve been there before.
Entering and leaving is a breeze and my daughter has been advancing her skills as an avid swimmer with this awesome program. Keep up the great work!

Pretty standard YMCA. Lucky I still have my New York membership. Well I’m sure it has been expired for several years now, but the fact that not all YMCA’s talk to each other, it is assumed that the customer doesn’t lie, so I showed them my NY pass, and they were like…“uh ok. come on in”…ha.
I wasn’t trying to pull a fast one on them. I just showed them my NY pass. They just don’t have the capability to verify membership. So they gave me a 2 week free pass because they thought I was an «outside member»
Wanted to mix up my routine from the standard base gym, and this place is a bit closer. More family oriented and has a pool. Parking can be an issue. Either find street parking or find parking up in the hill located at their corporate building.
The aerobics room seemed like your standard issued gear. Some new and quite a few old machines. But they do seem to serve their purpose. New flat screen tv’s to overcome the monotonous, repetitive motions from the machines.
A multipurpose room is available for classes such as ballet, yoga and other girly stuff. Pool looks small, but, again this is a family oriented YMCA, so kinda makes sense.
So yah, this YMCA definitely serves up your basic workout needs.

Turbo Kick Boxing (M 6:30, W 6:30, SAT 10am)
I’m usually the only guy in this class, and the music is generally terrible. But, this is the best workout ever. I usually leave there feeling like I jumped in the pool. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to get a really good cardio workout.
