Rising Sun Comics

One of the smaller comic shops I’ve been to, but definitely one of the cleanest. The best way for me to describe this store is… straight to the point.
What’s that saying… less is more? I believe so, and I believe this store represents that saying pretty well.
Upon walking in you are confronted with shelved comics; newest up top, with recents in the middle and bottom. Marvel and DC dominate this shelf, although there are some Dark Horse, Image, etc to the right, and it goes around. If you’re looking for small publishers then you MIGHT be able to find it but I won’t guarantee anything.
Behind that shelf, against the wall, is a taller shelf with paper trades. The walls are pretty much lined with non-​paper collectibles (i.e., things like action figures). Of the times I’ve been here I’ve been helped by the same lady — she is kind and welcoming, so that’s a definite plus. ALSO, ALL OF THE COMICS ARE BAGGED AND BOARDED ALREADY — NO EXTRA COST TO YOU. Definitely a highlight of this place.
If you’re into the older comics (i.e., anything before maybe…2 years?), you’re probably not going to find it here unless you’re looking for the paper trade version.

It’s a really cute comic store but I’m not interested in superheroes and comic books but I love animé and manga!

So this place is the coolest! Just because it’s small it packs a big punch. They have all the latest and greatest weekly comics and some back issue stuff. The store layout is well constructed, all DC and Marvel on one side and independent comics on the other so it’s easy to navigate. They have a Japanese toy machine which seems to be popular among customers. The staff is awesome and knowledgable about comics so if you have questions they have answers or looking for reconditions they can guide you in the right path. Their selection of Trade and manga is always well stocked so if that’s your thing you are covered. Also they have a selection of other stuff so have a look around you might find something up your alley. So if comics and and service with smiles is what you like, go to Rising Sun Comics for all your nerdy needs!!!

Went here with my sister a few weeks ago because we were in town. I was actually surprised to find they had a nice selection of Manga. They have mostly modern day comics and graphic novels but what they don’t have they have no problem ordering it for you. The store is very clean and organized. I didnt have to hunt for the comics i like which was nice. It was my anniversary and my husband was deployed so i wasn’t to happy until this little gem of a store made my day. What really got me glowing was the Japanese yen machines i got two dragon ball z keychains! Which is our favorite show. We went in just to look around but walked out with two bags of murchandise and three comics on there way. Very satisfied with our experience there.

I love the TV series «The Walking Dead» so I stopped here to check out the «Walking Dead» comic books. They have a good selection of them from the earlier ones thru the most current. The shop was very well maintained and organized. It’s small but packed with all kinds of comic books and animated figurines of various comic book characters. The clerk working was friendly and welcoming.

I went here with Debra R. We got a comic book and a Naruto key chain. This store has a good selection of comic books and toys. It has tons of Star Wars themed comic books and action figures. I liked the big Boba Fett doll and the tiny C-​3PO action figure. The customer service was really friendly and fast.

Small, conveniently located comic shop that keeps up to date on new issues. Some may comment on its size or the customer base that frequents the establishment, but let’s be frank: comic book shops are a dying breed so if they cater to a certain demographic to stay open, so be it. All you have to ask is do they have the issues you want when they release and is the customer service good? The answer is yes to both. Not a top flight shop, but gets you what you need.

I really adore this shop and the owners! Over the course of the last year or two I’ve done the majority of my comic shopping there, with the occasional manga and collectible thrown in. Never have I been disappointed in the selection or the service. When trying to get my hands on a manga that wasn’t in the store at the time, they simply ordered it for me. Easy peasy. A couple of comics that I’d missed (through my own oversight), no problem, again, they ordered them for me!
The store is always clean and well stocked and I find that the owners are warm and friendly and willing to chat. We’ve moved and I’m so sorry that I won’t be able to shop here an longer!

This place is a okay little store. They were opened for Thanksgiving Day/​Black Friday and not sure WHY they were. They had no deals except for double points thru the weekend. First off, we bought some things not that long ago which were just cents away from $ 10, and they wouldn’t give points. That is the worst point system ever. So if every time you go into the store and purchase two comic books, and your total is $ 9.99 then you don’t get any points for your purchase. Pretty crappy really since we have purchased from them several times, and we have no points. On Black Friday, they should have offered some kind of sale like one item 20% off, or anything above a $ 25 purchase you get some discount, 5% –10% everything in store,…basically ANY kind of sale. Double points is not an incentive. Sorry, Rising Sun. We went in there, looked around, and left. Got better deals at Yesteryear, Southern Cali Comics, Toy Wars, etc. At least Villainous Comics and At Ease Games lets you grow your points no matter how much you spend. I would like to support this store, but there are better sales/​promos elsewhere. We’ll go for our occasional one-​two comic purchase every now and then (which is less than $ 10 so we never get any points with these guys-«shaking my head»), but not much that brings us back on a more constant, regular basis unfortunately.

Not a bad comic store, I’ve been to better but in my opinion they are a dying breed as I’m seeing less and less. Although this one is located in an outdoor mall and is fairly small. Almost looks like a newsstand but with comics. The selection is sparse but they do have the general in demand typography as I easily found Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad. Good to see they also had a good assortment of manga as well. Check out their toys! Cool figurines to look at while you’re there

It is an okay shop. It is really small, but they keep new and up to date titles all in stock. They are really friendly and I appreciated the knowledge of the workers, but– for hardcore comic fans, you will not find a lot of what you are looking for here.
Since they are in the mall you can assume that they are going for a specific demographic that isnt always the best to be with in a small shop. Mostly teens and elementary school children in here looking for a keychain or some other nonsense.

Small shop but with great merchandise, sad I didn’t have enough time (or cash) to stay and pick up some more things. It was my first time here yesterday and caught my eye first were these little Japanese machines where you could get various figures from different animes, Ugh how I wanted to splurge but there’s always next time .

Little more than a mall newspaper kiosk with a center double-​shelf of comics and a wall of toys. Judging by reviews, it seems to be serving the Mission Valley comics fans well. But with ComicKaze and Southern California Comics near me, I had gone down to Rising Sun because I wanted to discover some new manga and past reviews indicated Rising Sun specialized.
I guess they used to have a bigger, proper shop somewhere else in Mission Valley? No address for it on their site and couldn’t find another location driving around MV, so I guess they’re down to just that mall kiosk. Bummer.
So, if you live in Mission Valley and can’t always get out of the valley to buy your comics I’d give it a go, but if you’ve got to get in a car to get there just go to one of the full size shops around town.

A good selection of Marvel, DC, Image and Indies. Also, wide assortment of manga. Plus, they have Gundam model kits!
The story is very small, especially compared to their previous location. But I’m glad they have been able to continue their business.
I have found books here that I miss at my local comic shop. So when I’m in the area, I make it a point to stop by.

This place is small and quaint. I found it to be very clean. The cashier seemed to be very disinterested in patrons visiting. Hopefully she wasn’t the owner. There seem to be a lot of different titles. And also there was a wall with comic Hero/​Villan & animé figurines. cool store, however cold cashier.

I can’t stop coming into this store, I just love every thing.
Great comics, great figures, it’s so awesome (insert Lego movie theme here)
They will even order stuff for you if they don’t have it in stock.
Heck the owner even did my taxes and saved me a ton of money!!! Lol

Best comic shop in San Diego. They will special order for you as needed and they’re super helpful on recommendations, whether it’s your first comic or your 1000^th. Rising Sun rules.

I bought the alternate Archie where he and the Archies go head to head with Josie and the Pussycats and make a Bollywood video… Ok that sounded REALLY nerdy and I didn’t even go to comic con this week…
Anyhow, it’s small but neat and tidy shop and might be worth a peek for comic fans.
