Rusty Spokes Bicycles

Bought a brand new cruiser here, the next day chain came completly off. Had to bring it back to the shop for repairs. Next day, same thing happened. After two trips down to PB, spending my money on gas, I ended up just getting a refund.

I’m super annoyed! I just bought a Soft Cruiser for my Dad, for xmas, and now I want it. Oh well. I’m excited to gift this bike to him. It’s a genius design. I took it for a spin and was amazed how smooth and fun the ride was. Kinda makes you smirk while riding it b/​c it’s so enjoyable. Growing up in San Diego, I’ve had plenty of cruisers, and this is bar none the best to date. It’s so well made and doesn’t look cheap, but still modest… which I like. Most importantly, the man behind it all — owner/​designer, Dave, was great. The transaction was easy and quick. No cheesy upselling, but gave suggestions in case it needed tweaking to fit my Dad. Bottom line, don’t waste your money on other subpar crusiers, this is the spot. Now, hopefully my Dad will agree. T.B.C. Thanks Dave!

Haven’t bought a bike from him yet, but Dave was super friendly and helpful. We were looking at a beach cruiser for the wife, and while they didn’t have one in stock, he let us know exactly when they’d be coming back into stock, and mentioned that he guarantees his bikes for life, and showed us how comfortable the bikes were (they really are smooth rides).
I’ll update this review after we purchase a bike (they don’t come into stock for another couple weeks)

My best friend and I were looking far and wide for an all day bike rental place, we ran across Rusty Spokes at 1400 Garnet Ave in Mission Beach and we were so happy! We got an amazing deal for two really cute beach cruisers a purple and turquoise one. Owner even threw on a basket for us because we were really in need of one! This will be our go to rental spot each and every time we are down in San Diego! Thank you Rusty Spokes for being so friendly and kind! :)

I seriously love my birthday bike I got from Dave! He was so helpful and real about this big birthday purchase I was nervous about, because no other bike shop in PB was willing to help me. Thank you so much to Dave for his honesty and help!!! I love my bike!!!

Best prices in town!
The owner is awesome and hooked me up with a new seat, seat post, and bell for $ 30! Other shops wanted $ 50 for just the seat with no post.

I walked in and was immediately greeted. They had everything I needed and the prices smoked the competition. If you have bike needs this is the place for you! If you go anywhere else for a bike or bike accessories without checking here first you are wasting your money. This place gets 5 stars!

For a minute, I thought this place had closed and I was so sad, but I’m happy to report that Rusty Spokes has moved just east of the previous shop and taken over the old PB Beach Bike shop on the corner of Gresham and Garnet. Dave has the best and most comfortable beach cruisers in town with the «softest» cruiser ride due to his own suspension system he’s made on his custom beach cruisers. He’s currently low on stock but will be getting new bikes in starting end of April in 2 colors. He has men and women models but of course, the only primary difference is the center bar dipping down for the ladies or going straight across for the men so girls, if you don’t care about the center bar being straight you can of course, purchase the «male» version. Dave also has tons of accessories you may need to customize your bike to your heart’s content. He also rents beach cruisers for $ 15/​day but with more than 1 bike, he usually gives a small discount. Rentals come with a basket if requested and a U-​lock. Located in the heart of PB, you’re just minutes away from miles of bike trails along the Bay and beaches. Although the bikes may be a bit more than other standard $ 99 cruisers you see advertised at several competitor stores, these ones definitely are the best in town due to customization, suspension system, comfort, quality and service! My friend went to check out Rusty Spokes and loves his cruiser! I can’t wait to go buy my own personal cruiser once stock comes in!

Took my finance’s bike in to get a tune up and the tire fixed. we were given the bike for free so we didn’t mind spending a few bucks to make it a decent ride. He looked at it and told us what was wrong with it pretty quickly and quoted us at $ 40 to fix it and said it would take about an hour and a half.
We went to get some food and came back and it was done and quite satisfactory. He said he didn’t end up having to spend as much time on it as he expected so he only charged us $ 30 for it.
Aside from the fair pricing as well as the satisfactory job, the guy was nice and happy to help as soon as we came in. I don’t have much experience with other bike shops in the area, but i’ll be going back to this guy for any future bike needs.

Great customer service and experience! They have great deals and I love supporting local businesses that have been around forever! If in PB definitely recommend renting your bikes from here!

amazing service! found the bike of my dreams, needed a repair due to my clumsy self taking a beach cruiser on a bumpy hike, brought it back and got it fixed up (and a few other things I didn’t even realize were wrong) for no charge at all! I would recommend this shop to anyone :)

Bought my bike there a couple years ago.
Handlebar got stolen and replaced with a used one (like new) for free.
Chain broke after 1.5 years. Replaced for free.
Someone put a whole in my tire. Replaced for free.
Because a parking car bumped it hard the brakes were off. Fixed for free.
Lifetime warranty is great. I would only buy my bike here!

I loved the selection of bikes here!!! Dave was really cool and I’m definitely coming back here to get my own bike. (The one I bought is a gift) And he’s even holding it for me for a about a week. I called a lot of places before deciding where to go but I made the best choice coming here. His prices are very very reasonable too. Can’t wait to custom my own bike soon!!! Thanks Dave :)

I made the mistake of trying to find a bargain on a beach cruiser. I wasn’t in a rush, and I only really expected one that would last a year, so i bought without even trying to ride them.
It was a mistake, and I ended up buying, assembling, disassembling, and returning a bike — twice. First time, something was busted in the packaging while i was assembling. The second time, as soon as i rode the bike, it became obvious that the bearings were total s***.
I finally just came here which is near where i live. It’s not much more expensive, and it’s worth it. There’s not a huge selection aside from colors, but the parts are specially chosen and the bikes are assembled really solidly. I’ve been using mine for almost 2 months now, and it looks good and feels great.
The owner is all about beach cruisers and putting these together and designing them out seems to be his passion.
Only improvements i recommend is better handlebar grips (they are pretty basic and don’t feel great when riding a long time). I also wouldn’t have minded if mine came with smooth tires. The mens bike has very treaded tires, which looks «badder», but really just ends up being overkill on boardwalk/​street/​sidewalk. These are personal preferences though and others might disagree.
Live time warrantee, btw, except for popped tires and the obvious stuff. And the owner sends your receipt via EMAIL so you won’t lose it.

Bought a bike there 5 years ago, and with our receipt just got tire and spokes repaired – FREE! And was in a while ago and they tightened the chain. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! Awesome bikes too!

Excellent service and the absolute best cruiser out there. I have some herniated discs that are on their way to the mend but this bike is the most comfortable, stable, and smooth riding cruiser out there. I must have tested 20 bikes before I finally decided on this one. On top of that, they customized it for me by adding 3 gears, front hand brake, front/​rear basket and rack, headlight, and bell. The soft cruise is a must have now… I can’t even fathom having anything else going forward. Dave will take good care of you.

This place was great! A couple of friends purchased some bikes here and they have been super happy with them and the service, so my husband and I came down to rent a couple for the day. They were very accommodating, the customer service was excellent, the bikes were in great condition and the price was reasonable.
Rental included a basket to put on the front plus the bike lock.
If I ever decide to buy a bike I’ll check this place first, in the mean time I’ll come here for my beach cruiser rental needs
