Description

Specialties

Thanks for stopping by San Diego Sax Lessons. My name is Ian Tordella and I teach saxophone and jazz improvisation (including jazz, rock, funk, classical, and other styles).

I encourage all my students to enjoy exploring the sound of the saxophone and to find their voice on the instrument. Lessons include everything from reading and basic stylistic concepts, to improvisation, playing along with recordings of your favorite players, and more. I am a graduate of the University of North Texas Jazz Studies program with over 15 years of teaching experience and a Master’s Degree in music. In the past I’ve had the opportunity to study with many inspiring saxophonists and musicians and I enjoy passing on the tradition to new students!

We’re centrally located above The Windsmith music store in North Park. Schedule your lesson today!

San Diego area saxophonist Ian Tordella is a unique voice on the West Coast jazz scene. Outside of his own band, Tordella appears both live and/or on recordings with a variety of local groups including Joe Garrison’s acclaimed large-ensemble Night People, Ben Wanicur’s trio/quartet, Gilbert Castellanos’s Federal Jazz Project Band, and guest appearances with rock mainstays The Heavy Guilt and Little Hurricane.

Raised in the Washington, DC area, Tordella received a B.M. in Jazz Performance from University of North Texas before transplanting to San Diego in 2003, where he furthered his studies under altoist Charles McPherson and completed his Master’s Degree.
