For brevity’s sake, let’s just say 2014 was a horrifying nightmare after selling a house and starting a business. Can’t blame these guys though. They were fast, efficient, and offered me a drink to drown my sorrows. They also set proper expectations for 2015 which I appreciated.
Didn’t have a chance to make it, but they invited me to a customer appreciation night of grub and drinks recently. I thought that was a really nice touch.
They solidified the 5-​star rating when I requested a letter verifying my self-​employment status recently via email and they delivered immediately.
If you’re going to get royally screwed by Uncle Sam it might as well be here. They’re great.

So I am a newer business owner (3 years) and doing my taxes scared the hell out of me and I had so many questions on «how too… and what too.» I called around then found Dennis. He helped me out beyond, and explained EVERYTHING to me and educated me on how to get ready for next year. Reasonable price, no money up front, actually works with you and can understand where you are coming from. They are now offering all book keeping services and payroll!

Tax filing deadline is creeping up very quickly and I will say Dennis at San Diego Taxman is the person everyone should have as a tax preparer. The process was so easy with this firm. I scanned all documents required for filing, uploaded it, went in for our appointment and boom 20 minutes later I’m done. My husband and I used to file taxes ourselves but our finances have been more complicated as time passes, so I will leave it up to a professional. Dennis does everything electronically and makes the process so smooth. Even before uploading documents our email correspondence was great; my emails were answered within the hour. Dennis is also very personable which makes the annoyance of tax filing bearable.

Dennis and his team are quick, efficient and very knowledgeable. They make things seamless– especially for those that dont know that much about taxes. I highly recommend them– plus they have great prices.

Honest and straightforward guy. This year we thought our taxes were going to be much more complicated than normal so we sought help.
We had our appointment booked, and showed up as planned. He asked us a quick question before we got started and due to his expertise he quickly realized that we could most likely do it ourselves as we normally do… This was amazing to us, and we sincerely appreciated his honestly.

Dennis has been great to us for several years now. This year for my tax appointment, I brought my folder in with all of my tax documents in it and gave it to him. He informed me that I was missing a W2 with all of my other tax paperwork. I was pretty disappointed that I would have to go all the way back to my house and get everything and come back for a new appointment.
Instead, he offered to fill out everything that I had brought him already and to fax him or electronically send him the W2 once I got back home and Docusign the return once he had everything completed. As soon as I got home, I found where my W2 slipped out of the folder onto the floor of my garage. I got it all scanned and sent it back to him and he sent me the return to Docusign the next day with my wife. Once we got it all taken care of, it was a done deal.
I really appreciate his professionalism in taking care of the situation in the way he did. We have been customers for several years now, and don’t see things changing anytime soon. Plus the beer in his place below was great!

Who writes a review about an accountant right? Well let me tell you Dennis deserves it!
I went to Dennis after being recommended by a mutual friend. Dennis is very knowledgeable with tax code and keeps you informed throughout the process. I can’t say enough about the office staff as well – they worked with me on an appointment that met my schedule as I travel frequently for work. Dennis’ mastery of the tax code made sure I got every deduction I qualified for. It helps to get a free beer as other’s stated in their reviews. Going to have to hit up Dennis next time I’m in the area as I didn’t get one this go around.
The ability to upload documents and email SDT are an added plus. The cherry on top is the encrypted file you get emailed at the end.
Do yourself a favor, go see Dennis, you will be glad you did.

Dennis at SDT is pretty damn awesome. I have been going here for the last 5+ years and have had literally no complaints. All of my taxes have been prepared very professionally and well documented. Their system makes it very easy to download important documents which ultimately lessens your time in their office. Yes, at times, it will feel a bit rushed, but that’s just because most of the work was done diligently and ahead of time. As a small business owner, and an employee who receives a variety of w-2’s I’ve dreaded taxes for a long time. Dennis is the quickest and smartest accountant I’ve ever had. I’ve spent more unnecessary time and money with both H&R Block and other independent accountants that I feel good knowing I’ve finally landed a long term tax preparer in Dennis!

I have used Dennis for my personal and business tax preparation for the past 2 years. The office staff is always pleasant to work with and really help make my least favorite chore less stressful. It’s also a bonus that you can head downstairs to drown your sorrows at Thorn Street Brewery after realizing you forgot to change your allowances ½ way through the year so you actually owe money instead of getting some back!

Went to see Dennis for our 2014 taxes. he was highly recommended by a coworker. Dennis was very easy to work with and had everything prepared at our appointment to where all we had to do was sign. Easiest tax year I have had ever! Our refund even came fast this year which is always a plus. Dennis always followed up in a timely manner and was very friendly. At the end of our appointment we gave my husband a free T-​shirt with his brewery name on it, which he owes below his office. How cool is that? Can not remember the last time I got to have a beer after I did my taxes. I am definitely recommended Dennis to friends and family!

This is my 3^rd year in a row coming here and I just love it! Dennis is super quick and efficient. (Which I’m so grateful for with my 3 kids in tow!) He’s able to answer any questions in a way you can easily understand. He’s also totally affordable. It’s really a great value for the service provided. Do you trust your taxman? Do you know if he’s given you the right advice so that when Uncle Sam comes knocking you know that your A$$ is covered? I come to Dennis for that reason… Trust!
I’ve been using Dennis for close to 8 years now, and from the beginning he’s advised me on the best practices for my situation which has changed markedly in that period of time. He continues to provide guidance on the correct paths to take, and although the game plan may change the result is always the same. I’m satisfied and confident my taxes are done right.
I’ve seen some of these 1 star postings, and its obvious to me that these are people who don’t read the pre-​game emails that Dennis sends out. Or they’re the ones who rush to make an appointment on April 13^th and want extra special attention. Grow up and take some responsibility people.
Dennis is the man, and I feel damn lucky that I got in early enough to be his client for a long time. He also has a great staff that is available if he’s all booked up. And if he’s off traveling in the off-​season there will be someone there to give you a call back.
I could go on about The San Diego Taxman, but I’ll wrap it up with this. If you’re looking for help with your taxes, start with Dennis. He’s honest, direct, fair, and I TRUST him.

This is my second year using San Diego Taxman. I recommend Dennis and all the folks there.
My first year he had to deal with a heap of freelance work as well as my day job taxes. Not a pretty sight but there were no complaints and although I ended up having to pay I got a free beer out of it.
Oh, didn’t you know? San Diego Taxman is above Thorn Street Brewery and both are owned by Dennis.
I went back this year with no freelance taxes but a new home in tow and, again, Dennis had no complaints and got me a refund I’m quite happy with. Kudos to his front office staff for rifling through the heap of documents I brought and sussing out the useful stuff. Dennis even tossed in another free beer! Sure, it’s not much in the scheme of things but it’s an awesome customer service touch.
If I could change anything it’d be the wait. Both times I’ve set an appointment and come in a few minutes early but still had to wait 10 – 30 minutes to be seen. The waiting room is comfortable and the wifi is free but when I set an appointment and show up early or on time I expect to start as such. Really, not a huge deal just something I wish was different.

I can’t say enough about the San Diego Taxman. I was referred to him in 2010 with 4 years of behind taxes for a corporation. I was literally ready to commit hari kari. I gathered the paperwork I could find and brought it to Dennis. From that day forward, not only is he my one and only taxman forever, but I consider him a friend. Dennis and his staff are great. Don’t be foolish going to these other tax places, go see the San Diego Taxman and rest assured that they will take really good care of you.

Some people only Unilocal to complain about services received. No matter how good you are you can never satisfy 100% of your customers. I would try to pay more attention to the reviewers with more reviews and with more positive reviews overall.
Dennis is great, he’s been great with me and I’m a 3^rd year returning customer. His prices are very reasonable and he breezes through things because he knows what he is doing. If you are nice to him he might even give you some free beer from his brewery…

Dennis is great. He’s fast and professional and friendly. My husband and I have been going to Dennis for 6 years now. We started seeing him while we worked in restaurants and continue now after graduating school, getting married, and buying a house. He’s so knowledgeble and helpful and I feel confident I always get the best return.

My husband and I have been using San Diego Taxman for the past three years and we’ve worked with both Dennis and Minh. They are great. They are efficient and promptly return emails. I like how they give you a list of documents they need from you and you can have everything electronically uploaded to them before the meeting. Extremely convenient. If we weren’t sure if they needed certain docs, i.e., whether we qualified for student loan deductions, we just asked and got a quick response. They are very knowledgeable. My husband and I are both really busy so we appreciate having our taxes done in a quick, professional and extremely efficient manner.

I was still receiving your marketing emails even though I was not a returning customer! Goes to show how much your clientele means to you!
Dennis was very unprofessional! He zoomed through my paper work and did not ask me any questions. He scheduled three appointments for two accountants that were working. Needless to say he was rushing so he wouldn’t keep his other clients waiting. I feel ripped off!!! Dennis only saw me as a dollar sign!!!
