History
Established in 2002.
The first Senior Helpers was opened in Baltimore, MD in 2002, by Tony Bonacuse after realizing that from his own personal experience the quality and professionalism of caregivers that he hired for his own family members were not up to his standards and he wasn’t able to have the peace of mind that should come with such an experience. Senior Helpers is now the 4th largest franchise for Senior In-Home Care in the country and there are three locations here in the San Diego area.
My husband Leonard Klastow and myself decided to get involved in this as a family business. I have cared for several family members over the last ten years and I want to be able to help more families so that we can provide quality care and allow for seniors to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

I came from a large family of teachers, my mother has been teaching Special Education for 40 years. I earned my degree in Early Childhood Education and my Master’s Degree in Special Education. I love to care for all ages but it wasn’t until I took a leave from teaching to take care of my Grandmother as she battled cancer when I realized that I had found my calling.
We had hospice taking care of her and Meals on Wheels delivering food to both she and my Grandfather but what lacked was the social interaction that she was needing to live life with purpose although the cancer was taking over her body. We would knit and play bridge, bake cookies and I would help her host afternoon teas with friends and families. It was important to her that people see that although she couldn’t still do it all herself, it didn’t mean she didn’t want it and to still be a part of society. She was our inspiration.
