Description

Specialties

Sleep Bedder is an old-fashioned meets futuristic mattress shop, with a twist. The new location of a 2nd generation family-owned & operated mattress store, we’re the evolution of the mom & pop model infused with a local, sustainable sensibility.

Surrounding the indie & eco mattresses are locally hand crafted goods by local artisans we call the In-Stead Art Collective, which began at the Golden Hill Farmer’s Market stand as a platform to spotlight lovingly-made functional art, one-of-a-kind home haven items, organic aromatherapy, and upcycled/animal-friendly jewelry.

Thus, our space is filled with art in a variety of forms that speak to all five senses and is the ideal setting for us to pair people with the right mattress for their optimal rest and budget, a skill that was passed down from the previous generation.

We also have community events, yoga, gatherings, and workshops.

History

Established in 2015.

Sleep Bedder North Park is the continuation of quality to our Mid City location that’s been in the family since 1991. Passionate about providing the community with affordable sleep technology, local art & handmade home goods, and a feel-good personalized experience, we’ve taken our mom & pop model to the next level in this new location.

Meet the Business Owner

Sonia W.

Business Owner

My thesis in college was to create a business model that shined light on smaller, healthier brands that are better for people and the planet. After working in video for a few years I had an opportunity to help my pop’s small business that was flailing in a new economy driven by the internet and found that I have a knack for (and enjoy) helping people find the right mattress. Then my pop retired after my 5th year learning the business and I took over and shifted from «brand names for less» to local, indepenent companies that create better quality goods for a more affordable price — and was able to bring in art and handmade home goods made in the community… my dream come true! Add in community yoga and events and it’s a best-case scenario for all involved and I’m living out my thesis… grateful for the opportunity to serve San Diego and provide goods that are better for people and the planet.
