Not impressed, this place is a cheap and awful imitation of our once legendary«Sluggos» Chicago Style Hot Dog and Hamburger joint in La Jolla. I was excited when I originally saw this place and devastated when I finally got their. Sluggers shouldn’t be around… If the original owner of the once beloved«Sluggos» in La Jolla knew about this place he would roll over in his grave… RIP you were loved. The Critic.

BEWARE!!! FOODPOISON Me and my co-workers went to this location downtown on 04÷22÷09 for lunch. I should have known that something wasn’t right when it was completely empty at 1 pm. The cashier also cooked and served the food. I did not witness her washing her hands. GROSS! We all ordered the chicago meal deal. There was nothing special about the dog. Went home that evening and woke up in the middle of the night sick as a dog. All three of my co workers were also sick throwing up and more. I will never ever eat a hot dog again in my life thanks to Sluggers in the East Village of San Diego. I am still recovering from the food poisoning and feel sick. EATATYOUROWNRISK!!!

Food is fine, I like chicago dogs and the fries are fresh. the location just sucks butt. i’d rather jerk-off with a cheese grater then walk down market street, but if i dared to take my car out of my spot, where the fuck would i park it downtown anyway? the cashier cooks your food, which is odd, but what the hell. the secret sauce is cool but tastes oddly like 1000 island, or ketchup mixed with mayo… haha. get it to go, go home, and enjoy on your couch. or if you like market street, just get it to go, call your parents, put them on speaker phone while you eat, and likely you’ll be just as annoyed as if you actually dined in.

Yeah, seriously what kind of person orders a hamburger at a hot dog place? They do make a decent chicago style hot dog here. There is also a nice outdoor patio in the back. The atmosphere inside can range from fun to super annoying depending on the combination of juke box music and what’s on the big screen television. The location at Park/Market means you may encounter homeless vagrants on the way in and/or out…

Ah why oh why would the previous Unilocaler go to a CHICAGOHOTDOG restaurant and order a mushroom swiss hamburger??? Sluggers is open nearly every day during baseball season and has limited hours on the off season. This place is actually really good and has very authentic Chicago hot dogs. The fries are Chicago style fries and tend to be thicker, there for limper. but if fries aren’t your style order slips(fresh potato chips). The people behind the counter are very nice and I have always had great service here. The area isn’t THAT bad. if you consider Park & Market seedy, lets take a walk to 16th and Island… I’ll show you seedy. SO all and all. this place ain’t no Portillo’s but it’s good, and if you like hot dogs I think you will like Sluggers.

I came upon Sluggers hungry and desperate for food. The promise of a juicy and wholesome burger got me in the front door. Unfortunately they failed to deliver. My mushroom swiss burger was bland, boring and dry. Fries were limp and soggy. Plus when I came to my senses, I came to the realization that their prices were too high for the quality of the food they offered. Watching the flat screen showing the Chargers in their dining area was highlight of my visit. They are located on the corner of Market and Park, a very shady area of the East Village. On my way out, I got hit by a character«new in town» asking for some money to get by…
