Wow! It closed?! What’s the deal? This was my favorite place to go while I lived in east village. I wanted to take my girlfriend there last night. She had never been and wanted to grab a casual drink downtown. My first place to suggest was always The Corner. The staff were always so awesome; amazing and unique food but not to crazy or over-priced, and always a perfect beer selection. It is very interesting that this place would have closed down, especially with baseball season starting tomorrow. Very sad day.

Friend had an event here so my gf and I stopped by. If it werent for the people at the event itself this place would have been empty on a Friday night. It was a wet night in SD, but still it would have been crickets. No wonder why its closing soon. On the plus side, the interior is done well in the well known industrial modern american industrial design. Metal and wood and it feels right. The space feels good too. Drinks were super cheap for a Friday night past 11pm. 2 jack n cokes and a shot of sauza for $ 23! Nuts! The location just isnt working for this place unfortunately.

I’m really surprised this place doesn’t have more stars on Unilocal. It’s a nice little spot by Petco where you don’t have to deal with the frat house crowd at places like Bubs. The beer selection was awesome, they even had some specialty beers I had been on the hunt for. I will say it was pretty dead when I went in and they should start happy hour a lot earlier if they want more business.

So last year before the holidays we tried to come here on a night out, after a terrible time at a restaurant. It was closed to a private party. Boo Fast forward to 9 months later and we decide to stop by before the game. Great beer selections, great cocktails. Food was good. Not totally gluten free friendly, bummer but it is what it is. Still enjoyed my spicy ass burger, minus the bun. And my cocktails

Went here with my husband the other day. We both ordered veggie burgers and received turkey burgers. We didn’t realize that they were turkey until we ate two bites. We have both been vegetarians for years and we couldn’t understand why the burgers tasted so different. With our entire meals on our plate the server didn’t even bother to ask us why we didn’t touch our food. I ordered a water and the lemon was old and discolored. Overall, it was it awful experince. My husband has been urging me to try this place for almost a year. He claimed they had the best tater tots and veggies burgers. After our experience, he is convinced they must be under new ownership or management.

Five Stars! I’m not much of a burger man, so I got the grilled chicken sandwich, which was delicious. I highly recommend the horseradish cheddar cheese. Very delicious. A friend of mine, who was drunk, checked the wrong box on his«build a burger» form and neglected to get tomatoes. The wait staff generously offered a plate of tomatoes in order to make things right. I ate them. I also ordered a delicious alcoholic milkshake(a «Thin Mint»). To be honest, it wasn’t very boozy but it still tasted good!

Mediocre would be generous praise; the food and service here was incredibly disappointing. My turkey burger was dry and bland, and my partner’s beef burger was overcooked. The sweet potatoes fries were thick, oily, and seemed undercooked — it was like eating greasy slices of partially baked yams. The one thing that wasn’t a crushing disappointment were the tots that the man got with his burger. Those were yummy, and the sole reason I’m giving this place 2 stars instead of 1. A note on the price: 3 meh-at-best burgers and only water to drink, and our bill was $ 40. *sad trombone sound*

These guys know exactly what they are doing when it comes to big juicy flavorful burgers let me tell you that much! I came in here on Tuesday night about 6, it being a non Padres game night to avoid massive crowds. It worked as the place was not super busy. I came in to take on the non menu listed item called the Corner Bar Burger Challenge. Its a 6 patty, 4 bun burger(which officially weighed in at 4.79lbs with sweet fries included). It also contains house chili, grilled mushrooms and onions, fried eggs and 6 slices cheddar cheese! Its an out of this world burger in terms of size, flavor and aroma let me tell you! I had 45 minutes to finish the whole burger and the side of sweet fries of which it seemed no one thought I would manage with my intimidating 6’2″ 180lbs frame… After getting myself in the zone, the burger was brought out stuck with 3 skewers just to hold the tower of a creation together it was so big. Marco’s the mastermind chef who assembled this beast did a wonderful job of putting a little fear in my mind as it was plated in front of me for the challenge. None the less I went to town with full determination to defeat the burger which was said by the owner Davine(cool guy to!) to have had 90 some people try it and only 5 people confirmed finish in the allotted time. On this evening all cards were played as I managed to put the beast down, fries and all, in just 26 minutes flat. It helped that this thing was perhaps the tastiest burger I have ever had with its grass fed beef patties, house chili and crazy good sweet tater fries(my favorite side item). Davine and Marco’s as well as the bartender that night were totally awesome guys so be darn sure to say hello and mention that Josh sent you. They will be sure to ask if you have seen the video clip of the feat I am sure of it. If this burger is a testament to the other burgers they have listed on the menu then this my friends is where you can get the best(and biggest) burgers in all of downtown SD.

After a night driving a moving truck from Phoenix to San Diego and a morning spent moving into my new place, sustenance was very necessary and as the name implies, The Corner Bistro is on the corner across from the new digs so off we went for a nosh. As it was after lunch and before dinner, the place was pretty empty(we were the only table) but it looked like it would be a cool place to hang out in the neighborhood and grab a bit or cut the dust of a long day on the proverbial trail. I ordered the fried pickles and the smokehouse BBQ burger(or some name similar to that) and waited. The pickles arrived and I have to say, they were AWESOME! Perfectly battered and the crunches I’ve ever had. The pickles inside had great flavor and snap rather than the sogginess you so often find. The accompanying ranch dressing was thick, tangy and full of flavor(i’d buy it by itself to have on hand at home). The burger was okay, I hated the BBQ sauce(it had a weird astringent flavor) but would totally order it again sans sauce as it was cooked properly to order(mid-rare) and had tasty accouterments. All in all, this is a neighborhood joint ill likely patronize(for the pickles alone if for no other reason!)

Walked in just before the start of the Padres game to pretty full bar but managed to find a table fairly quick. Ordered a round of PBR’s and some appys while waiting for our last person to find parking on Saturday night in the Gaslamp. Tater tots were delish. Fried pickles were hot and crispy and my husband devoured his corn dogs. When #4 arrived a cocktail was on order, so I ordered an Old Fashioned and she had a Mule. Both were excellent and well done. Overall, a perfect start to a nice night.

Ok. So I’ve been to The Corner quite a few times now, since it’s so close to my school and usually have a good experience — the tater tots are golden! However, my most recent visit was not so great, hence the two star rating. The boyfriend and I are studying for the bar, and are busy busy bees. The fact that I have to take time out of bar study to write this review shows how unappreciative I am of the bad experience. So let’s get to it. We have classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week for the month of January. Yay for the last week before we really turn into hermits and study our butts off ’til the last three days of February(the bar — dun dun dun). Well, last week we did a mini bar exam, where we had to do 100MBE(multiple choice) questions in the morning and 100 in the afternoon, with a 45 minute break in between. For each one hundred, we are given a 3 hour time slot. You can only imagine how grouchy we were for our lunch break since we were so tired, beat, and HUNGRY(and everyone knows how hungry = not happy). We decided to go to The Corner for our break. We wanted to share a burger and salad. Easy enough right? WRONG! Our burger took 35 minutes to make, and we got fries instead of a salad. Great. We waited 35 minutes — mind you, leaving 10 minutes to eat and get back to testing — for an order that was not conforming to our request. Pff. Was the burger any good? Who knows. I had to swallow my half and stuff my face with fries just to get out of there in time. When my boyfriend confronted the server/bartender, of course, he had to blame my boyfriend for confusing him since originally we wanted fries and then changed our minds. No. no. we never wanted fries; we simply wanted a salad. The server did offer to get us a salad, but my boyfriend explained that we just didn’t have the time to wait because we had to get back to class. So the server offered to pack one up for us to go. Sorry bud, but we can’t eat during an exam — so no. So to sum it up, here are some words of appreciation: thanks server for giving us a water and soda to sip on for 35 minutes. Without the beverages, we really would have just been sitting there like bumps on a log. Oh, and really, thanks for comp’ing the meal because we didn’t even have two minutes to spare to even pay(we only had credit cards). Oh, and finally, thank you thank you thank you. for the fantastic lunch break. Nothing beats a bad experience between a 6 hour testing day. Spectacular!

Jengggggga!!! They have a funny message that tells you what to do, like a dare every time you pull one. It’s a great drinking game! I had to buy a shot for the cutest guy at the bar, play with my guy friends nipples, had someone grab my boobs, and prank call a stranger… That’s all we came here for was to drink and play jenga. It’s literally around the corner from my friends E place, who loves Unilocal btw.

If you’re looking for a place to go near Petco Park that doesn’t classify as a sports bar and is kid friendly — check out The Corner. There is handicapped access from the street level entrance up to the second floor bar and lounge. Kids are allowed here during the day, and there are some cool places to sit and people watch passers by from the corner [of The Corner] window. You can belly up to the solid concrete slab bar top for a spicy bloody mary and split a delicious Cuban pork sandwich, decked out with swiss, Serrano ham, and thick cut pickles. Paired with a side of spicy BBQ sauce, this thing is worth messing up your face for! Yes Ladies, either forego the make up or get over it! This is worth it! Luckily, our bartender knew what was coming and had already stacked napkins in front of us, upon hearing our order. He’s a pro — not to mention, super personable! There is also seating throughout the cozy, but ample second floor of this burger destination. Flat screen TV’s are up, so I can only assume they play the SD/major games where they’re on. There is also a fireplace in the corner of The Corner Restaurant! 3 tables, one providing bar stool seating for 6 is there, and I would love to get a group together to enjoy this space. Their design here is super cool.(I used all three forms of «there» correctly — Does this mean I qualify to run for president?) Tons of specialty drinks in the way of mojitos and time consuming [for the bartender] things of that caliber Thanks for showing us a good time during our first stop in!

After experiencing the«hard sell» for season tickets to the Padres my GF and I needed a drink… maybe two drinks. The Corner Restaurant just kinda appeared outta nowhere and we jaywalked«as the crow flies» to the front door, up a flight of stairs to a basically empty bar yet cheerful bartender. It’s nice and dark with a clean interior. The bar top is wide and made of ‘cool to the touch’ concrete with very comfortable(wide seat) bar stools… more like wide bar-chairs. Whatever they are it brought immediate comfort(star upgrade) and I had a moment where I wanted to just post up all day here! Two TV’s at bar for watching sports and a few tables here actually offer nice views of 10th Ave. We started telling the bartender of our recent Padres sales adventure(we were really having a drink here to decide if spending $ 3000.00 was OK for 40 games)…the bartender smiled and said «I don’t blame you for debating it. News flash Padres the economy rules!» We both ordered a few drinks, was happy to see Sriracha Thai hot sauce as one of the ingredients to Lindsey P’s bloody Mary… out of habit I began to scan the menu. Based on suggestions from the bartender I wanted to order a burger but we decided to split the Cuban sandwich. The Cuban consisted of: Cuban bread Serrano ham fresh pickles slow cooked pork(lots of slow cooked pork) Swiss cheese Comes stock with a side of spicy BBQ sauce We had a few options for our side but ended up getting like a mountain of seasoned tator tots… YES I SAIDTATORTOTS… ANDTHEYWEREGLORIOUS. Actually, both the sandwich and tots were damn awesome. We split this Cuban appetite killer and thank goodness, it’s HUGE! More importantly it was incredibly tasty! The pork was tender and the salty ham, thin sliced pickle and cheese all made beautiful music in my pie hole. Somewhere in the middle of my half I began adding tator tots dipped in ketchup on my sandwich and that kicked some ass! This place totally did a 180 on us! We walked in weak from«what do I have to do today to get you into these 80 tickets» to refreshed, full and ready to walk downtown! Will totally come back to try the house special… a burger! I give this corner 7.5 «awesome economies» out of 10!

My burger was good, though a bit saltier than I prefer. The fries were disappointing, so I left most of them behind. I was having a work lunch, so I didn’t get to try any of the beers. I was the only one who got a burger, so I couldn’t take advantage of the two-for-one burger deal. The service: They were friendly, but they weren’t around much. I had one hour for lunch and was taking a course directly across the street, yet I was late getting back. It didn’t appear to be very busy inside, but we had to find someone to get us our bill so we could be on our way. In fairness, this place might be more enjoyable for a casual meal, not a work lunch. A good beer can make all the difference.

You can pretty much get a real good deal if you do their happy hour. And it’s everyday too from 4−6pm. $ 3 domestic drafts, $ 4 premium drafts and wells, and $ 2.50 appetizers. And they have 2 for 1 burger days too. My burger didnt qualify for the 2 for 1 special because I went with their jalepeno burger… I should have though since I was feeling the wrath later on that evening, but thats another story. But the burger was pretty good. Reminded me of Umami. Nice bun, the burger itself was juicy. And for only $ 2.50, I also got their tator tots. Good, and I pretty much devoured it in 5 minutes. Nothing real fancy or special about this place. I came on a random Tuesday at 5pm and no one was in yet. Bar is upstairs and they have some of my favorite brews on tap so this was another plus. Still I would come back for their 2 for 1 burger, tots and beers. Plenty of tv’s all around.

A great location, good service, love the old warehouse feel, enjoy the open celing, however, pretty empty. The place is located upstairs with a bar, then the bathroom on the other side downstairs. I came here on a Saturday for happy hour. The prices are very good. They have sliders, fries, the usual. I had the sweet potatoe fries which were good. You can tell they are real sweet potatoes. I had the cuban sandwich, it was okay, it was missing flavor, it comes with this sauce, a ranch and mayo mix– ehhh I’ll pass, not that good. There is tons of meat in the sandwich, pickles etc. It also has a sauce on it, but not much, can’t taste it. Overall, the place had average food. I would prefer trying a different place before I go back.

I think of The Corner Bar the same way a sex addict thinks of masturbating… Even though I’ve participated often there’s really no feelings involved. I don’t have a sentiment either way on the place. It’s not good… not bad… it just kind of happens. I somehow always find myself in here not really knowing why or how, and then leaving quickly to do something more fun. It’s the Sarah Plain and Tall of bars… All I can think of is the fact that they have Jenga and an elevator for the handicapped that’s fun to ride to the second level on, but other than that I’m drawing a blank. Much like masturbation I can’t really remember why or how a visit initiates, but it does and I’m sure it will happen again many times.

We decided to come here with another couple for lunch before heading to Petco Park for the game. Apparently, this place is the same owner as Burger Lounge and serves only grass-fed beef like Burger Lounge. However, the menu claims that they serve their burgers in medium, when my plate arrived, it was well done, so my burger was a little dry. The service wasn’t bad and the ambiance reminds me of a basement but it’s not a bad joint. The sweet potato fries were pretty good with the ranch and the beers were decent as well. I’ll give this place another chance, maybe next time, I’ll clarify that I want medium and not well done.
