Smog Tests Only

I search this place online within the nearest zip code area I live in, I called and spoked with Mary to set up an appointment. Fast forward. both Mary and Ray are very helpful, knowledgeable and professional enough to accept my old Jeep Grand Cherokee and gave it a chance to pass. Without this place I probably wouldn’t be able to know what or where the little hidden discrepancy is located for me to replace. I also feel very welcome here and I’ll be coming back here every 2 years with my beloved Jeep. Thank you very much. A+++++

I’ve been coming to these guys for 10 years and would not go anywhere else. The owners are a husband and wife team who are truly conscientious and hard-​working. Very friendly, too. This is one of those rare service businesses that really seem to care.

I had a great experience yesterday morning. I first called around getting quotes for a smog, on one of those calls Ray answered the phone. He was very nice, gave me a good quote. When I arrived he welcome me to his shop and introduced me to his helper but I forgot her name but she was very nice as she help me filling out the estimate. Ray is good and courteous by trying to get the vehicles out of there as fast as he can so he can get to everyone else’s. He pointed some things out I needed to pay attention to wich I really appreciate by the way. His wife is also very nice and friendly they make me feel comfortable. I really recommend this shop for your test only and star smog. Oh, and by the way my vehicle pass smog. I was worried because I had just bought the vehicle and besides of the truck being sat for 3 months in a tow yard, the last owner neglected the truck for who knows how long. Anyway, thanks you Ray & I will be a LOYAL customer from now on!!!

Been to this place twice to get my car smogged and both times had a great experience. The staff is very nice and helpful, I would recommend anyone that needs to get a smog test done. They also do star smog!

Bought an out of state car and needed smog for registration. I looked up smog test downtown San Diego on Unilocal and they came out with the highest ratings. They were very professional and friendly. Ray, is very knowledgeable about cars and both Mary and Ray are very accommodating. Highly recommended. Fast and efficient service. I’ll be taking my cars here in the future. Ray even offered to talk about performance upgrades to my car after– hours. I’ll probably stop by sometime soon Ray.

I came to Smog Only yesterday and Ray and Mary were just the nicest people! They were quick and efficient, and also very welcoming and kind which is pretty rare these days. Thank you guys for making an annoying errand so easy!

This is flat out the best place to go for a smog test in San Diego. The husband and wife team that operates the shop as friendly, accommodating and extremely knowledgeable about the smog test process.
Having recently relocated from New York State to San Diego, I was a bit apprehensive about needing to get my 2005 Nissan smog tested. Although the car is in good working order, there can sometimes be a check engine light issue. I first called to the shop to tell them the issue and they suggested that I bring it in so they could take a look.
I ended up visiting the shop twice, though my car failed the first time they informed me that I could come back for no additional charge. They spent a great deal of time with my car and gave me accurate and detailed information about what the issues might be. Ultimately, my car passed due to their effort.
I highly recommend this place. They will do anything in their power to help you and provide you with the best information.

What a great place! I came here because of the high ratings in Unilocal and I must say, you guys got this one right! I first called Mary on the phone to explain my situation before I stopped in. She was so sweet and told me everything I needed to know.
When I showed up, there was a car just ahead of me. It was a fast process and my car was up pretty quickly. In the meantime, I handled paperwork and chatted with Mary, she’s great!
All in all, my car took about 15 – 20 min. I don’t know if my inspection was so fast because I failed (I knew that going in, just needed the error codes) or if it really was 30 min but I was too engrossed in The Reader to realize it. Either way, it was a great experience and I think everyone should support this small business!

Had my first Cali smog test experience here, and it was super easy and quick, and cost about $ 50 (though I didn’t need anything done; not sure how it stacks up if you’re getting things replaced).
Mary, one of the owners, told me she’s been there for at least 15 years… she’s now doing smog tests for teens she saw as babies when their parents came in. That really says something about the customer loyalty happening here.

I recently had to get my ford explorer smog checked, and came by Smog Tests Only. I found this place through a fellow Unilocaler, and was just as pleased as he was with this place. They do take reservations, however I tried my luck without one (showing up around 2 pm on a Tuesday) and there were two cars ahead of mine. Surprisingly, my car was done within a half hour and it passed (thankfully! It always passes, but you never know there could be a time it fails). Staff is great and even alerted me to the fact that my front seat wouldn’t move forwards and backwards any more (it’s an old car — and I’m the only one that drives it, so I hadn’t noticed). It was nice of them to let me know. For the smog check and the certificate (which they will send to the DMV electronically for you) will cost about $ 55. If your car fails the smog check, the second time they check it will cost you significantly less.

I’ve been taking my various cars to Handsome Ray and the Lovely and Talented Mary for a long, long time. (They’ll know me as the guy from the bookshop). It’s always been my pleasure to go there. I’ve always been treated more like a friend than a customer. That’s a real plus in my book. Don’t hesitate to call ahead for an appointment; you’ll be treated to the friendliest first class smog service ever!

Had to do my smog test ASAP and this location is convenient and afordable. The guy that did my car was super nice and complimented my car’s condition and was very fast. Out the door for less than 15 min and cost only 50 bucks.

Ray and Mary are a husband and wife team that work hard. Like, really, really hard. They put in long hours and are absolute smog masters. The most impressive thing is that Ray and Mary do this job with constant smiles on their faces and make everyone feel welcome when they pull into their tiny little shop. I mean, lets face it, the only reason anyone is getting a smog check is because the friendly folks at the DMV said they have to. Well, if you are required by the state to go spend a few bucks, you might as well do it with some really nice people who do great work. Props to you, Ray and Mary!

Went in without an appointment so had to wait a little bit before having my car checked but the staff was friendly and accommodating. They had seats outside to wait in while waiting for your car to be ready.

Wasn’t bad. Ended up being $ 55 total.
Will be coming here if I need another smog check in the future. Definitely recommend due to their prime location, good price, and fast service. If you are in a hurry make an appointment just so you can secure that you’re in and out quickly!

That time of year again and needed to get my car the smog check. Looked this place up on Unilocal and booked an appointment the next day. Super easy!
Service:
It was super fast and painless. Only took about 25 mins and was enough time for me to walk a block to Starbucks to get coffee. The owner was super friendly and helpful. The owner and his wife run the business.
Price:
The price was the lowest I could find and they didn’t do any bait/​switch that I heard other places do. I think it was all under $ 50 after it was all taken care of.
Overall:
This place has excellent service, great price and it’s super quick. I highly recommend this place!
