I rescued another doggy & knew that I had to get her trained & also have an almost 10 year old who had some super basic training years ago. After a lot of research, I decided to check out Snug for boot camp, so I brought my lil one down to be assessed by the manager Katie, who was awesome– super friendly & honest, & made us feel comfortable with the big decision of where to leave my girls, because of course we decided if the new addition was going to boot camp, her big sister should go too.
What an awesome decision Snug was for us! Great, clean facility, wonderful staff, & most importantly my girls were happy & I knew they were safe there. Our trainer Nick is the best, he kept in contact with us the entire time the girls were away, keeping me updated on their progress. My girls are smart, they’re not aggressive towards other dogs, they understand… they just know they’ve had it pretty easy before Snug. With dog training especially, I think most people fail to understand that success of your pup highly depends on you. We’ve put in consistent work with the girls since we picked them up from boot camp a few weeks ago, & they are doing well. We’ve brought them down for follow-​ups with Nick so he can observe us with them & correct any issues he may see with how we are continuing the training. Consistency is key, dogs like routine, & like I said, mine are smart, which means if they’re not listening, it’s probably more me slacking, not them. :)

I have been taking my puppy to Snug for a couple of months and I have experienced the Daycare, Boarding, and Grooming. So far, my experience here has been great and I cannot thank Jessica (the Assistant Manager) for making this experience worthwhile.
1. Grooming — Tabitha truly is TALENTED! We had a mishap at a Petsmart Groomer that BLAMED my puppy for not being trained and therefore was the reason she did not get an «appropriate» haircut. This really concerned me and I was very nervous about bringing my dog to another groomer. On the day I brought my puppy, Tabitha took some time to talk to us specifically about what we wanted and we also gave her feedback about our past experience and were worried that our puppy might be traumatized. Tabitha, however, wasn’t concerned. She was confident in explaining how she handles he four-​legged clients and reassured us that there were staff able to help work with our puppy if necessary. Low and behold, our puppy had no issues (take that PetSmart!) and had the best haircut in the world! I totally recommend Tabitha and we will definitely bring her back in the future. It is on the pricey side, BUT you are totally getting your money worth! Plus, my dog is always super anxious whenever we go to the PetSmart that gave her a traumatic grooming experience… BUT ALWAYS LOVES SNUG!
2. Daycare — This service is amazing. The dogs are split between the big and small and they have an indoor and outdoor area. I really liked that part because it gives our puppy a chance to not be cooped up indoors all day! They also have a video service that allows you to monitor your pets. I especially like this part because I can see all of the cute antics she does. They always have staff members walking around and watching and playing with the dogs, so it’s great! My only wish is if they could enlarge the recording of the outdoor small dog area, but of course, that’s a minor issue when you consider the big picture. My dog comes back super tired (which is great) and always loves going to Snug! She always perks up when we get onto Sorrento Valley… as if she knows where we are!
3. Boarding — Okay, so I have mixed feelings about this and let me explain why. I still give them 5 stars because it was a one time incident and I feel that Jessica really listened to my concern and had great customer service. So the first time I ever tried the Boarding, I used the discount by signing up online, because I felt that the service was on the pricier end BUT the daycare was So AMAZING that I wanted to give it a try. I was not provided the full service that was promised when boarding a pet and was very annoyed when my puppy came back smelling like she was stuck in a kennel. I spoke to the people at the front desk (some of the sweetest girls in the world!) and said they would write it in the note so that upper management would be aware. It had been 3 days and no response came from upper management so I sent an email regarding my concerns. I promptly got a response from Jessica inquiring about the situation and explaining how I was right to be concerned. I was very pleased with her customer service skill. To this day, she is the reason I keep going back to Snug to utilize their Daycare and even bought the package deal.
4. Customer Service — You know how you go to a human resort and are treated like royalty… that’s what Snug does for it’s customers…2 or 4 legged. I really appreciate the way the staff are willing to listen to my concerns and the promptness in responses from Jessica. There was recently a flood that prevented me from picking up my puppy. The power and phone lines were out and of course I was very concerned. But the staff called explaining the situation and let us know that the dogs will be boarded and fed for the night. My husband was a bit concerned because the staff member made it sound like there was going to be a charge, however, Jessica saved the day by answering that question and letting him know that it would be a service from Snug! When I finally went to pick up my puppy, she was happy, energetic and smelled SO GOOD! She got a free bath too!
This place is truly amazing and if you’re curious about it, check it out and hopefully you’ll get to meet Jessica! To the owners of the company, I hope you realize how amazing she is and the front desk staff is so friendly as well and really takes the time to answer my questions. We hope to be long term clients of Snug because they really do live up to their high standards in SO MANY WAYS!

If you need any dog training, this place is FANTASTIC! My trainer, Josh, is seriously the most ideal trainer for every type of dog. The facilities are super clean and the staff is amazing. I have nothing negative to say about this place; I can’t say enough good things about it either

Had them wash, dry, wax the dog. They did a good job and she now looks really good. They also did a good job on her paws as they trimmed the hair between her pads as we requested, they trimmed her nails also and she is doing great now on slick surfaces. They also did not clean her ears as we requested, this was really important as our baby girl gets really bad ear infections every time they get cleaned. I was super happy about this and concerned that they would forget or not listen. But they did and she is clean and happy as are we.

My dog had attended Snug on and off since August of this year for day camp. His last day ever was yesterday and I’ll explain why. You may think Snug is great because they have fun play areas for their dogs, multiple web cams so that you can watch play (and for accountability), and an onsite vet. However, that didn’t stop our dog from getting numerous injuries with no explanation or apology.
It is our fault for letting our dog continue to go to Snug given the warning signs, but we thought that big dogs can play rough sometimes, and maybe the smaller injuries were just part of letting a dog attend day camp. We decided to cut back on the time our dog was at camp, and would send him there only when we had a large block of time that our dog needed to be watched. Even given this, he has injured. I’m concerned about the screening process they have there — our dog is hyper, but would never inflict the kind of damage that he sustained while at camp.
The first direct injury was my dog fractured his nose. When picking him up, they said nothing even though he had a huge lump on his nose. We got no explanation of how it happened. Due to their «health guarantee» we were able to get him checked out at the onsite vet for free but basically all they told us was his nose was fractured and just to let it heal.
We pulled him out of Snug for a while to let his nose heal. Immediately the day we brought him back, when picking our dog up, he had a huge scratch across his nose. He has a black nose that now has a lovely pink scar. Again, not a huge injury so while we felt uncomfortable with Snug we also thought again, this is an injury that could be incurred through play. We asked to speak to the manager so that we could get an explanation. We were told she was busy and would call us back. She never did.
Cut to yesterday, about 2 weeks after the last scratch (our dog had not been attending since). My husband and I were going out of town for the day and figured we could let him go half day to Snug and then a family member could take him the rest of the day. We got a call saying that our dog had a cut on his head, so he was pulled out of day care. We proceeded to get conflicting stories from the vet and the assistant manager Jessica of what really happened. We were told he required one suture on the top of his head, and when he came back from surgery he had two. We were told that they would check the tapes to see what happened; we have yet to hear back. The only semi-​redeeming thing that Snug did was offer us a full refund on our remaining sessions there but also did use part of that balance towards his surgery: $ 150
Both my husband and I spoke to Jessica on the phone since we were out of town. She was not reassuring at all, and frankly rude to me when I asked for an exact balance amount. She couldn’t tell me this when I asked.
I would recommend not sending your dog here, or at the very least, heed the warning signs that I’m giving.

This review is for Dr. Ashbaugh who we used to take our dog to before we moved (we recently called for records and learned he has moved to a different location as well). We’ve been to a few different vets in San Diego and Dr. Ashbaugh stood apart. He always listened to us attentively and patiently and we never felt rushed or discounted with him. I’m sure as vets they probably here much of the same from numerous clients, but with Dr. Ashbaugh we always felt he gave us his undivided attention. He was thorough both in his explanations and considerations yet practical and we never felt overcharged. It’s tough entrusting your pet’s health to another, but we always felt our dog was in good capable hands with Dr. Ashbaugh.

Love this place, Toni and Nick are the best dog trainers… Truly dog whisper’s and I only trust my dear Buddy with them. He had some behavior issues which they quickly corrected and he loves going there. I highly recommend them.

The training and interaction here is on point. They treat the animal and owners with the upmost respect. I was lucky enough to get to work with nick, he’s a great and honest trainer.

This review is for Snug Pet resort and Absolute K-​9. I have a boxer mastiff mix that is extremely aggressive to people, other pets, and objects. I have tried multiple in home trainers and have had no luck. We took him to Absolute K-​9 for the 8 week training program and were very happy with the results. Our dog, Tank, came home much with a much more calm demeanor and much less anxious! Not to say he is perfect or his aggression is completely gone but I can say the trainers there, especially Josh & Shannon, definitely can help! They also worked with me to teach me the tools I need to communicate with my dog and continue to progress with his aggression and anxiety issues. They even came to my house to help me with in home issuses!
I have also tried to find a place that I trust to board him since he is so aggressive, especially towards strangers and other pets. He was turned away by every boarding place I had contacted. Snug pet resort is highly trusted and have saved the day multiple times!
I can now travel without worrying about my Tank! In fact, I am going on vacation and boarding my Frenchie there with him and am completely confident both my pets will get the attention and love that they need from Snug! I can’t thank them enough for all they have done for me!
This place is highly recommended, you won’t be disappointed!

I would like to say that the owner reached out to me to hear my concerns and why my experience was not up to standard for me. I can tell she truly loves her business and does not want people to come away with a bad experience and is willing to listen and address all concerns. I appreciate this level of customer service and wanted to share this.

My review is for the training. I took my dog her years ago for boot camp. He stayed over night for about a month. When he came back to us he was different but the barking was still a major issue. The previous trainer had me buy a barking collar. Once that broke my dog went crazy and started nipping people. He is an 8 pound Maltese but it was still a major issue. I was upset and called Snug. They set up a meeting with Mike and he explained that my dog knew exactly what to do that I just didn’t know what to do because I was never trained how to handle him. It’s so true because I have followed all of Mike’s advice even though it is annoying at times and instantly I saw a complete 180 in my dogs behavior. He still gets a little wound up with other dogs but he is slowly transitioning! Thanks MIke!!!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THE VET HERE!
These guys will find a nice way to steal your money, time, and possibly hurt your pet in the process too.
I took my dog here to get some blood work done to refill his meds. Not only did they go through with doing the blood work (even though they knew the results were going to be off because my dog took the medication right before the test), but they also told me I needed to get him tested again before getting another refill! Are you kidding me?
So they took my money, even though they knew the results were going to be off, but then they didn’t want to give me a refill for the medication? And THEN the vet tech had the balls to get confused why I was upset and tell me that it was ONLY $ 125??! Are you kidding me? They should have told me to not give him the meds before taking him there OR they should have not gone through with the test to try and screw me over.
Not only this, but the results for my dog’s kidney levels (which was an approximate extra $ 200) were also off because he ate an hour before the test. I didn’t need meds for his kidneys, but it would have been nice to get a proper reading. But of course that’s not possible with these guys.
ON TOP OF THAT, I asked for some anti-​anxiety or sleep meds for my dog because we were moving and had to drive in a car for 3 days. I wanted something to help my dog sleep during the night and the vet prescribed him Acepromazine… which seemed to almost KILL him. Now, this drug has good reviews online but apparently the dosage my vet told me I should give him was completely over the top. I wanted 6 – 8 hours of sleep, but my dog was knocked out for a whole 36 hours! He urinated and defected all over himself because he couldn’t get up. Not to mention he «woke up» in the middle of his sleep screaming like I’ve never heard him scream before. Thank god I gave my dog the minimum dosage the vet requested, otherwise he many have not been so lucky to eventually wake up.
(Note: Acepromazine may have good reviews online for pets, but actual people who have taken it report horrible mental experiences. I recommend not giving it to your pet even at the right dosage)
Every time I take my dog here, I leave paying at least $ 450, and ¾ of what I pay for isn’t even properly tested. Another time they actually LOST my dog’s urine sample… thankfully that time I got a refund, oh but not this time.
This place is disgusting, but at the same time it’s hard to find a proper vet that’s not going to over charge you, screw you over, and then hurt your pet in the process. Take your time and really research where is the best place to take your little guy.
But for your wallet’s sake, your time, and your pet’s health, I REALLY advice you to stay away from THIS place.

It had been awhile since the last boarding experience with Snug, but my regular dog walker was booked so I was in a bind… so I gave this place one more try. The staff member who answered the phone was very nice, however, whoever checked in my dog when we arrived, looked at me like a deer in headlights. Maybe it was her first day? Anyways, long story short, my dog seemed nervous when she got there. Just had to cross my fingers and roll with it.
When I picked up my dog, it didn’t even look like her. Try to visualize my white, fluffy, Bishon Frise (see dog show photo). Well, when she came out running to me, she looked like a curly haired, flat moppy, tangled poodle. This did not look like my dog. Now, if you are an owner of a high-​maintenance hair dog, you totally understand where I’m coming from. I was furious. Apparently, Snug gives every dog a bath — even dogs like mine. I know they do it as a courtesy, however, the 101 of dog grooming with Bishon’s is YOU DO NOT JUST GIVE THEM A BATH. I go to the best groomer in San Diego (let me know if you need her name) and pay a lot of $$$ for my dog to be groomed to perfection every month. Granted, yes, I admit I am like a stage mom when it comes to my dogs hair, but still. They should ask every customer PRIOR to check-​in if they want their dog to be bathed.
I actually called Snug and spoke with Bree, who said she would let the manager know and have him/​her call me back. Did I ever hear back? No.
The 1 star is for the staff who answers the phone — they are very helpful.
I will not ever return to Snug. I will be going to Camp Run-​A-​Mutt down the street.

Our dog has stayed at the boarding twice, and we won’t be taking her back there. We dropped her off the wednesday before memorial day, we scheduled to pick her up monday of memorial day and planned our trip around the hours they told us they were open, I confirmed this the day before we dropped her off as well via phone. We dropped her off and they said «we are closed monday shell have to stay until tuesday» well besides being mad this was just sprung on us we didn’t have food, the front desk was rude and said they would just feed her some treats as meals… WHAT!
they overcharged us a $ 40 holiday fee which was never explained and uncharged her room stay per night by ten dollars which was also never explained. On top of this they say they will send a picture and update each day… it was the same picture each day, and the update was the same exact one each day. I called to check on her mid trip and was told she hadn’t eaten since being there besides treats, even though I told them to please put cheese on her food as she won’t eat when she is away from us. There is a clear lack of communication between employees and also with customers.
We arranged to have our friend pick our dog up early because we felt uncomfortable the whole trip. She also had two abnormal marks on her when she was picked up. We were eventually refunded for the $ 40 after calling three separate times.

My dog loves SNUG! When we pull into the parking lot for daycare, her butt starts wiggling uncontrollably! I know that she is in good hands when she is at SNUG! The staff is great and Nicole is so helpful! Highly recommend this puppy palace!

I had thought my experience would be a positive one, since most of the reviews on here are that way. However my experience was less than great. I boarded my 2 yr old collie mix for 1 night over this past memorial day weekend. I dropped him off healthy and happy.
When I arrived at the kennel the front desk for drop off they said that since I was picking him up ON memorial day and after 3pm, I would have to pay for another additional day and for a holiday fee (since it was on memorial day). I would have appreciated this description of added fees (on top of the already pricey fee) while I was booking him 2 weeks earlier, rather than being told at the front desk when I had no other options. Its not the money, but not having full disclosure what rubbed me the wrong way.
Upon my return, I was given my pup with severe diarrhea and vomiting. For the past 2 nights I’ve been up with him at 3 different points because he is sick. I’ve been doing the chicken and rice diet but to no avail; I’ve called Snug to tell them whats been going on. They seemed unconcerned about it and just brushed me off while saying that sometimes this happens, then said if it continues I can bring him in to see their vets (he has been to other kennels and has never had this reaction upon return home). I’m sorry but I won’t be having their over priced vets taking a look at him, I’ll take him and my money to someone I trust — MY vet. Word to the wise, don’t board your dog here!

I picked up my Service Animal who has been going to Snug Pet Resort for the last three years. I paid the 2K for lifetime maintenance.
When I picked up Elliephante, my bill was 618.18 without a breakdown. I called and requested a breakdown and was surprised to see an additional $ 40 Holiday Charge, in addition to another $ 64 boarding fee with a lump sum fee from the Vet… whom Elliephante has been seeing for the last three years as well
I was NOT happy as now Snug’s boarding fees are $ 64, of which I was not informed when I made her reservation nor when I dropped her off. I found this out when I picked her up.
Today, Katherine, one of the managers called me, apologized and reimbursed me the Holiday $ 40, in addition to the extra $ 64 for boarding.
She explained that after 1500., the full boarding fee is charged. I have never had this issue before as I normally pick Elliephante up before then when she is boarded.
I want to thank Katherine for calling me and I want to apologize to Mike as my anger was not directed at him per se, he just happens to be one of the OWNER’s.

The owner reached out to me on Unilocal right away to see what happened and rectify the situation. One of the Managers, Katy, called me and I explained everything to her. She was very disappointed to hear that my experience went down the way it did and refunded me (without me asking) and gave me a credit to try them again. She also assured she would get to the bottom of all the issues with her staff.
I’m very impressed that they care so much about customer experience and Katy really seemed genuine. I will try them again when I have a need and hopefully my experience will be better next time.

This is a long overdue review for the following: in-​kennel training & follow-​up sessions, the staff, and the boarding experience.
In-​kennel training: My dog, Rocky Balboa, is a very stubborn bull terrier who was never properly socialized as a puppy, and is extremely dog-​reactive. I had to board him somewhere on short notice because I had a two week work trip pop up and I went through three other places who wouldn’t take Rocky due to the dog-​reactivity. I finally went to Snug and found that not only do they embrace aggressive dogs as they would any other dog, but that their trainer Josh Z has had bull terriers himself! Perfect. We went for an eval where I instantly gained so much trust in Josh. Instead of just boarding Rocky while I was away, I did the in-​kennel training for 2.5 weeks. By the time I picked him up, my unruly and ADD dog was able to focus on me, listen to me, and let me redirect him from distractions… including other dogs! He’s still not perfect, but since we did the in-​kennel training in February, we’ve made more leaps and bounds than we have with anything/​one/​where else we tried before. I’m amazed at what my dog is capable of, and Josh helps me maintain control of my dog.
Follow-​up training sessions: we’ve had three 1:1 sessions with Josh since we did the in-​kennel training. To sum it up, last time we were there I was able to have Rocky lay down and stay while I dropped the leash and backed away with other dogs in his eyesight. I never dreamed something like that would be possible. His go-​to reaction was always lunging, whining, & barking until we were out of eyeshot. Josh is encouraging and motivating and he believes in my dog and me. He also doesn’t approach Rocky like there’s anything «wrong» with him — he’s just a stubborn bully! I’m so incredibly glad we found Josh. We have one more 1:1 training, and then we have 10 group sessions… and when we first went to Snug, I really didn’t believe we’d ever be able to DO the group sessions but we’re very close now.
The Snug staff: I can’t say a single negative thing about the staff. Since my first call to set up the eval for boarding, the staff has been understanding, empathetic, compassionate, and accommodating. They really mean it when they say you can call for «wellness checks» anytime you want. I totally did that for the first few days of the in-​kennel training and they gave me great updates. I always feel a little guilty when I have to call for questions, to change his schedule, etc., but the Snug staff never responds with anything but kindness. They understand how us owners of challenging dogs feel, and they don’t flinch when I say that I will wait to collect or drop off Rocky until the other dogs clear the reception area. They get it, and they don’t make me feel terrible for it! I trust them 100% with my dog because I see them treat my dog with the same love I have for him. It’s not just a business to the staff. It’s almost like walking into an oncology clinic and seeing all the wonderful infusion nurses with hearts of gold — it’s the most caring staff I’ve seen at any animal-​related business aside from our vet’s office.
Boarding: I decided that I would board Rocky a few days each month to continue his socialization, allow me to do work trips without worrying about who will stay with my dog, AND because since he did the in-​kennel training he gets free maintenance training for life in his boarding stays. This past weekend, he was happy to be back at Snug and wagged his tail like crazy when he walked away with the Snug staff. I called around 5:30 today to pick him up a day early on short notice and they said no problem and still made sure he had a bath even though I was there within a half hour. Awesome! He was such a happy boy when I picked him up.
Re: the negative reviews I see on Unilocal — they make me sad. I’ve had nothing but wonderful experiences and I always see so many other happy dog owners picking their fur babies up while I’m there. I don’t spend extra money on webcam rooms, play time, treats, etc. because I know they take good care of Rocky and he’s exhausted just from the interactions he gets during the day. They also let me send treats with Rocky’s food & meds so I don’t have to pay for treats in-​kennel. He’s never come back anything but happy, healthy, and more manageable and better trained!
So, THANK YOU, Snug! You have given me new hope as the owner of a reactive dog, and really the first hope I’ve had since we got our boy. His previous owners kept him in the backyard all day and chained him to the coffee table at night inside. We’re trying to undo two years of damage, and Snug is making that possible.

Thank you Toni for helping me with Finnegan and for your honesty in the assessment of which program will best suit him and work within my budget! I appreciate it greatly!
