Great sushi! Great prices! Great variety! Thankfully I live close to this location and I am quick to invite others to come and try! Me and my friend decided to stop by after a hot day of disc golf and they warmly welcomed us with my dog to the outside seating area. Since that last time I had been here they had moved the seating to behind the restaurant verses it being located in front, but it was lovely! Beautifully decorated with some extra Halloween pieces added to the friendly atmosphere. I was really pleased to see that they welcomed my dog and gave water without asking. We tried a couple of the new rolls on the menu(clairemomster and a few others) and all of them were well priced and well worth the wait.

Sushi deli is my go to for comfort food Japanese cuisine. I have been to all 3 locations and they are all equally tasty. I ordered the monthly sushi special the wings, the sushi deli fries and the salmon poke bowl. Everything was deeeeeelish! Food here is REDICULOUSLY low priced and I love it! This location always gets busy but it’s sooo worth the wait. You will always leave satisfied and happy.

Great sushi places are judged by the taste of this standard rolls. Sushi Deli disappoints in this department with rolls that taste a bit on the old side and are made in a kitchen rather than a dedicated sushi area. But, Sushi Deli is the spear point of sushi culture for the crowd that isn’t too snooty about the exact cut of their fish. Their specialty rolls are excellent, and their baked rolls are absolutely scrumptious. The Baja California roll and Hot Hot Tuna roll are both filling and worth the price of admission. The Sushi Deli Fries are unique and worth a try, and the Takoyaki isn’t bad for the price. The decór is a fast n’ casual California beach style that is great for the young crowd. The small space Sushi Deli 3 has to work with though, is discouraging for anyone who isn’t planning their night ahead of time. Even for a regular restaurant they are a bit on the small side, but they are so popular there is almost always a line out the door. There is a decent place to sip drinks while you wait for a table, but this is a place on a growing list of excellent eateries in San Diego that is just dying for an expansion.

Im not sure why I haven’t been to this establishment sooner. I came on a friday evening and the wait was approx. 40 min. Parking wasn’t bad with spaces in the back and along the street. You can order drinks at the bar while you wait and sit in the outlying areas around the restaurant itself to kill time. If your looking for a quiet traditional sit down sushi dinner, this isnt it. The noise level is up and the pace is fierce. The food is great and the prices are better. The average roll is around $ 6-$ 8. The menu is so vast that you can spend at least 10 minutes staring at it and still wonder if you missed something. The Poke bowls are a great deal. I recommend the tuna with seaweed salad(it also comes with creamy slices of avocado). They have sushi combinations for those who cant make up their minds and the sashimi slices were impressive. The amount of cocktails is probably the focal point of the restaurant. They have a set of local craft beer for the beer snobs(like me). Overall, a good place for a date or a group and to fill your tummy with something yummy!

The sushi is good here and the prices are better. I’ve been here a few times over the last few years and it never ceases to have a wait list, which you just come to expect. We decided to call for takeout today to try and be more efficient with our time, as I was in the area on other errands. Unfortunately, I was met with 5 consecutive thwarted attempts to call the restaurant over the course of 10 mins due to a busy signal. When I did happen to get through, the person on the phone was great and very helpful. When I arrived at the restaurant after the commensurate 25 min lead time quoted on the phone, I was told that they had not started my order yet, due to some sort of oversight. They did offer me a drink while I waited and told me they would expedite the order. Still took an extra 15 mins. The food is good, prices are good, the people are nice, cool atmosphere, but the management could use some serious work.

This place is a Gem!!! My favorite sushi joint by far. The prices are phenomenal for the amount of food. The service is fast and efficient. I recommend the monthly specials, you get the most bang for your buck. It is a must try trust me on this one.

Service was a little slow for lunch, but really good food and decent pricing on sushi. Pretty good specials available such as the sushi tacos. I really enjoyed the shrimp sushi taco and the Broadway roll.

I loved coming here. It was packed the night I went but was well worth the lil’ wait time. I loved the sushi and the miso soup was delicious. Amazing menu, atmosphere and service.

Good quality sushi at a good price. Recommend the passion roll and ceviche roll if you can handle a little kick. Bento boxes on lunch special for $ 7.00 and craft beer and cocktails. It’s always packed so get here and expect a wait, even on week days at off hours. Parking is a hassle as it always is in this area so expect to park at a nearby lot or search for a bit. What I look for in sushi rolls is good quality fish, variety, and quantity. Sushi deli hits all those marks. I’ve been here late night, for lunch, and in between hours too and it’s always consistent. They added a back room to the main restaurant which is a more casual vibe with high tops.

Fresh fish and tons of options for every discerning taste bud out there! I went here with a friend who grew up in the area and was able to give me the brief rundown of this Sushi Deli craze. Apparently there are others in town, but this is the best one! If the line at the door before opening is not an indication of this, I don’t know what is! For starters we had edamame and«monkey brains». The edamame was cooked just right and the monkey brains were a first for me. This new spin on an old classic blew me away. Fried inari with crab inside carried a real taste explosion! Next I had the Ceviche Roll — it was the first time I’ve had tilapia in a roll and I was pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness of the mixture with seaweed salad on top. Lastly I had the Hawaiian roll — spicy tuna and a sweet mango-ish sauce was like having a dessert sushi to end the meal. Yum! Craving it as I remember and write about it!

Great«non-traditional» sushi at a great price. I don’t even look at the menu, I just order the monthly sushi special and a salad– never disappointed! The food is good, the flavors are interesting and the prices are great! They also have awesome deals on sake and sapporo!

Update(see pic below): Still love Sushi Deli 3 but my last visit was a bit disappointing. We ordered a 4×4 and the spicy tuna rolls(which are my fav) were TINY! I mean they were minuscule. They looked like they were squished and then cut into the smallest, most saddest pieces. Disappointing but I’ll let it go… I LOVESUSHIDELI! Found this place years ago and to this day, it has been my go-to sushi joint in SD. Their fish is fresh, their waiters and waitresses are(for the most part) friendly and efficient, and their atmosphere is lively and fun! Rolls are cheap and they are great quality for the price. Additionally, they accommodate to those indecisive eaters that never know what to order by offering monthly specials and a variety of combos. All of their combos come with free miso soup. Monthly specials usually include one basic roll(ex: spicy tuna, avocado roll, etc) with three interesting and unique rolls you probably would be too scared to try by itself. Each roll consists of 4 pieces, making the combo a 16 piece platter, normally priced at $ 10.99. My personal favorite is their 4×4 combo(spicy tuna, rainbow roll, caterpillar, and crunch roll). Their garlic edamame and the hot hot california roll(CA roll doused in delicious spicy mayo sauce and baked to perfection) are also delicious. Wait times can get long on weekend dinner times, restaurant is dimly lit, and music can be pretty loud at times. But if you can get over those little things, this place is definitely worth a visit. Before you know it, you’ll be back! Trust me ;)

Trendy, yes. Good, no. Myself and a couple friends ordered take out from this location on 11÷13÷15… To accompany a few horror movies reserved for these glorious days. I got the deluxe combo, which is a group of four half-rolls. I requested no crème cheese. Added miso soup. My sans-queso request was forgotten about, as was all miso ordered. After requesting the miso, I had to literally fish my already-paid receipt out of the trash to show the help that I had indeed purchased two cops, for myself and one other patron. So… He went and dispensed it from the instant miso machine in back. Now… Regarding the food… This region boasts some badassed sushi… Particularly on convoy. This location is particularly hyped. Its busy and trendy and all those words helpers love to see when they’re hunting grub. .all.hype. We ordered over $ 100 in food, and nothing was spectacular. There was a general lack of visual appeal, and honestly the quality level of the sushi and sashimi, both cut and freshness speaking, was mediocre. The tako yaki was not just mediocre, but legitimately bad. Sad because this is a collective favorite for a couple in our group. Up your game, Sushi deli… You’re busy now, but our last trip felt like success may have created an Icarus in you.

Hit or miss, more like 2.5 stars, but I was feeling generous today. and because I have had good experiences here, although more often than not it’s a miss in my recent experiences. The layout of the place is a bit funky-it’s almost like split in two with a back area that’s nicer than the front half. The parking is on the street or a sketchy-feeling back lot, and the location itself is somewhat obscure. The rolls are decent, especially for the price. They have plenty of options and creative creations as well, but the happy hour deals aren’t anything spectacular compared to other places. The bento boxes or combos are well worth the price too! It’s a good deal for what you get, but its definitely not anything out of this world. The service is more miss than hit and is definitely on the slower side most times. Our most recent trip was insanely slow, I mean they must have been short staffed or something, but our waiter only checked on us maybe twice. We even tried to order more and finally succeeded, but then ended up canceling the order because of the slow service and lack of follow up. Literally sat for at least 30 minutes before we were finally able to flag someone down to follow up. only to find the roll wasn’t even close to ready. hence our cancellation. Merp. I definitely have better luck and quality at the Sushi Deli downtown. I don’t come here often anymore, but three stars at their best. If you’re in the area, want cheap sushi, and don’t mind the possibility of slow service then give this place a shot! Like I said, it’s hit or miss, but I’d rather pay the extra buck for consistency. I’ve had one too many misses here that my returns are far and few between nowadays.

Invariably, whenever I go to a sushi bar, I always end up getting more than I plan or should. The plan is to be healthy, grab two rolls at most and not be a pig … five items later and you’re sitting there, rolling around on your chair, saying, «just three more things and we’re done … after this fried Jalapeño Roll!» Such was the case when I came by for a quick lunch before class. Being strapped for cash, I figured a small duo of bites and I would be happy. Then I look at the menu and the specials up on the wall and got a bag full of goodies for take-out. Man, does this place love its salsa. So, I started out with the Fried Won Ton Skin Appetizer. This was a simple box of ‘chips’ and was surprisingly light as they drained and patted the skins dry before serving. It was salted right, crisp and flaky, and very tasty for being so simple a thing. Next up was a Short Rib Special. Man, were these good! Tender, very juicy, cooked long and low to make the cartilage render down into rich deliciousness, and served with a sauce that complimented the saltness of the meat with a sweetness and heat that was really quite brilliant. I then wanted a cheap and simple roll for filler, and finding the Baja California Roll. With a typical California, topped with more avocado, tempura crunchies, cilantro, and salsa, and given a ranch dressing to dip it in, it’s a cool little take on a Fish Taco. Even after waiting about 20 minutes in a box before eating, it still tasted fresh and kept its shape. Last on my plate was the Island Breeze Roll, a basic shrimp tempura, California Roll mix, but with a duo of sweet mango sauce and spicy mayo drizzled across the top. This was pretty good, a nice blend of frying, spicy, and sugary sweetness, all while tasting fresh and having all the separate ingredients coming through in each bite. All of this in a cool dive location. I definitely plan on going back, bringing the woman I love in tow, to test out other highlights on the menu.

I’ve been getting take out sushi from this place for years and it never disappoints. They have great monthly specials for sushi including a $ 11.99 sushi box or a cheaper bent bowl that changes every month. Their sushi is very affordable and taste great. I believe there’s no sushi over $ 10! I highly recommend Sushi Deli 3! Call in your order during lunch because it gets packed in there and expect to wait for a table and your food during peak hours.

If you want cheap and down right good sushi then this is the sushi spot for you. I’ve tried all 3 locations. They have locations in Downtown, Hillcrest and Clairemont. I have to say the renovations have made a huge difference at this location. The wait use to be awful here! I waited 1.5 hours for dinner once, as you can tell I wanted sushi badly. With the new expansion in the back the wait times have gone down. The parking in the back also helps but parking still stinks in this area. I enjoy sitting in the back patio area the best. My only gripe is the extra charge for ginger. I love ginger with my sushi and I hate having to fork up extra for it at this sushi spot only. They also rolled out a new line of sushi rolls. We tried the Clairemonster roll and it was amazing! My other favorite go to is the ninja roll and spicy scallop hand roll. If you need a sushi fix come here and get some good but really cheap sushi you won’t regret it.

This is my go to place for sushi in San Diego. They recently expanded– they added a back area. This is a very popular spot and waits can be a little long. My fiancé and I like coming here if there is a lot of traffic after work. They open at 5pm for dinner & its happy hour from 5 – 6:30. They have dollar off beers and other drink specials like beer and sake combo. On to the food, which is very inexpensively priced! I recently tried their lemon pepper edemame, which I really liked. My fiancé normally share one of the sushi combos(comes with 4 pieces or 4 different rolls and salad/miso soup/rice — I always get the misp soup). The portion is big and enough for us to share!

The original place I was planning to have lunch at was very busy, so I ended up here hoping to find a decent lunch. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Plate and Salmon Carpaccio with Asian Pesto. Both were reasonably priced: the chicken at $ 5.99 and salmon at for $ 6 and some change. The salmon carpaccio was okay. The salmon was of decent quality, but it did have a little greying around its edges. The salmon tasted okay and had a smooth texture, except for the edges which were a little grainy. I felt the salmon came with to much ponzu sauce, which hindered appreciating the natural flavor of the salmon. Also, the Asian pest sauce was to aggressive flavor-wise and with its quantity. Just a little dab a top of each piece of salmon would of been sufficient. I really like pesto, but this was overkill. The chicken katsu was basically panko crusted chicken tenders served over rice with a side salad. I am not complaining because I liked it. The panko crust was very crunchy and other than needing some seasoning, I was pleased with its texture and color. The chicken inside was all white meat and was tender for the most part, except for a couple of the ends that were a little over done. The spicy sauce that I asked for was great. It had good flavors and some nice heat. I not only ate the chicken with it, but the rice as well. The salad was abundant and very good. The greens were fresh and so were the sliced tomatoes. The dressing was light and mildly tangy. The chicken also came with a small bowl of miso soup. The soup was good as miso goes. I ate at the bar and the girl who served me was keen and provided good typical bar conversation.
