The House of Yogi – East Village

Just attended a class here and loved it! I was in a class of about 7 people– all of very different ages and abilities and the class was perfect for all of us. There was a sub– Alyssa– who was amazing. I’m a teacher and an 18 year practitioner and work in the area. I’ve been looking for a local studio that I can get a good practice in during lunch or right after work. The 12:00pm Vinyasa fits right in! Thanks so much! I’ll be back!

I really like this studio. Instructors are all very friendly and helpful. There’s a nice variety of class levels and the space is calming, providing a nice temporary oasis from the urban environment.

LOVE this place! The studio has plenty of room and the ambiance is great. It’s quiet, peaceful, and in a cool space. I’ve taken a variety of classes here and have never been disappointed. It’s true, each teacher has a particular vibe and although none have been «bad», they are different. I think this is great because there’s something for everyone! If you’re looking for a studio to build upon your practice, this is the ONLY place to go. Great adjustments throughout class, attentive teachers, and plenty of props & postures to support any style. Yes, parking isn’t «great», but it’s downtown and that comes with the territory. Give yourself a few extra minutes to avoid rushing around and your mind and body will thank you later! Will continue here as long as i live in San Diego!

I had such a great fist time experience here. The place is so tastefully decorated, and really sets a relaxing atmosphere.
Alyssa the instructor was absolutely incredible. Her guidance and soft voice was stellar. She helped me and relaxed me, and I totally lost myself. She was simply amazing.
It’s very safe to say I’ll be coming back. Especially for Alyssa’s deep stretch class!

I discovered this studio through Groupon. They have a decent amount of class times and most of the teachers I tried, I liked. My favorite was Sarah Clark, but Shaun Jenkins was good too. But one i took just didnt seem to know what she was doing… barely any cues, no theme, etc. I wish there was more variety of teachers at the 7am weekday class though. Also, parking is horrible most times I’ve gone there. I would probably come here religiously if I lived within walking or biking distance.

This studio is BEAUTIFUL. It’s located very close to Petco Park so parking can be challenging (especially on game days) but they offer validated parking in the Padres Parkade when there isn’t a game. The studio is very spacious with a great, open feel.
I took a restorative yoga class and was slightly underwhelmed. The instructor spent a lot of time joking with students, which kind of broke the mood. It wasn’t as relaxing as I had hoped it would be. I would like to come back to the studio and try out different classes to get a better vibe for this studio.

I. Love. Hale. Like, truly. With pretty much all of my heart. I’ve been coming to Hale for a about a year now and was a little concerned about the new ownership, but the studio has the same amazing instructors, so all is still well (sans green smoothies… so sad, but somehow I manage).
I’m not a yogi. I’m not flexible and not overly graceful. I play at being a runner, so my hips and shoulders and pretty much everything else are absurdly tight. During my second round of marathon training, I decided to try to add in some yoga, because I don’t ever stretch enough and because I’ve read all the great things about yoga for runners. With my running partner, we bounced around groupon to groupon throughout the downtown area until we found Hale. While I was sad to see super cheap (aka groupon) yoga go, I couldn’t be happier to have found a studio that I love enough to have a monthly membership.
What struck me most about the studio (besides how I love the aesthetic) was how initially intimidated I was. Attending 6:30 a.m. weekday classes, it seemed to be a very fit, very yoga-​proficient group of people. Even for an all levels or level ½ class, there were plenty of people doing all sorts of fancy inversions. And the instructors support that, guide us all on how to do various new or challenging things, but also make sure as an individual that you know it’s ok to move at your level, to have off days, and to try baby steps toward new poses.
I mostly attend Zaquia and Cassandra’s classes and both are so laid back and approachable, yet very knowledgeable and skilled. People in the classes have freedom to move at their own pace, often with more advanced people throwing things in to make the class more challenging for themselves. The instructors have always given multiple variations on poses, from the most simple for beginners like me to the most challenging for those with an advanced practice. I love that I can see others doing the poses I’m not yet able to do, and see and hear the demonstrations on how to get there, as well as work on the initial steps that will set me up for the future. For the most part, classes are well-​attended but not too full. In the last year or so, I’ve only been to one or two classes where we really had to maneuver around to fit in everyone.
Such approachable instructors and practitioners. They also have great supplemental workshops and special events. Because I usually come in the mornings or on Sunday, parking is not an issue. I like to park a few blocks away and enjoy my walk in, so parking is never an issue, although I’ve always also been able to find parking in the immediate vicinity on days when I’ve needed to park closer. So don’t let comments about parking deter you! There’s also trolley stops a block or two way.

I started practicing yoga in December. I have tried several studios, and I have liked many of them. But, for some reason, Hale Holistic has become my go-​to place.
I generally go in the mornings to Cassandra’s class, and I used to go to Zaquia’s class. I love both of their classes. They’re challenging but motivating. I feel I have learned a lot.
They changed ownership recently which has brought some changes along. I have not noticed many of these changes, except for the smoothies. I felt the smoothies were a very cute touch that was very unique to Hale Holistic. The smoothies are now gone which makes me sad, but the great instructors are still here… so no biggie.
TIP: Parking may be an issue, but they validate if you park at the Padres Parkade.

Adored this place from the moment I saw the clever little downward dog sign out front :) once inside, vaulted unfinished ceilings with plenty of natural light, natural wood planks, just light and airy all over!!! And something smelled reaaally good. Eucalyptus and spearmint perhaps? :p
Today’s instructor Rachel LaBarre was absolutely lovely, helpful, motivating. Just what you need to get your day going!
Love this place.

I’m officially addicted to Hale.
I was skeptical at first about joining a yoga class and decided to get the groupon to «check it out». The groupon was probably the best thing that happened to me. I had used up all the 10 classes in 4 weeks and I wanted more! I love their schedule; whether you need a mid-​day break or an evening of rejuvenation, I’ve always found a class that served my needs.
They don’t push you and expect a hand stand just because there are others who do it. I love that they always ask you to listen to your body and needs and do what suits you best. I’ve taken a class with almost every instructor they have, and they are all AWESOME!
To me, the most important aspect of a yoga class was to make it a part of life and not a chore or work out session and that’s exactly what Hale has provided for me. The teachers are so practical yet spiritual, always so positive!

I was in San Diego for the weekend and spotted this place while on a walk. I must say, I’m glad I did. Nikole had great knowledge, patience and spirit to bring to class. The atmosphere was beautiful with a lot of natural light shinning on the practice. Parking is easy and prices are reasonable. I’ll definitely be back.

Amy Clover’s Saturday at noon class is FANTASTIC! She has amazing energy and made the entire class want to workout harder! This was my first class at Hale and will def be back to try out new classes as well. Parking is a little tricky but they do have deals with local garages and I’m sure if there’s not a big event going on in East Village it wouldn’t be too tough to find a spot. Once inside, I was blown away by the gorgeous studio the lighting and décor was stunning. After the killer workout, they provided delish green smoothies. Look forward to exploring this practice more!

I took Sarah’s Vinyasa class at Hale holistic in downtown San Diego and FELL IN LOVE! This was my first time ever stepping into Hale Holistic yoga, and upon entering Sarah immediately greeted me from the head of the classroom making me feel welcome. The atmosphere was bright (windows), welcoming (clean), and homey (pictures). I was surrounded by 16 other yogis (men and women of all ages). Sarah took time and attention into getting everyone into a comfortable seat for a short guided meditation.
Sarah has a wide variety of language and obvious knowledge in anatomy. She referred things like «external rotation», and showed us how to find our C6-​Vertabrae ensure we knew how to protect ourselves in shoulder stand! She has a simple and experienced way of explaining alignment, I can tell safety is a priority for her. She took time breaking down every posture. She used great imagery and many questions to direct our presence from the beginning of class all the way up until the final posture. She was constantly keeping my mind present with her words and theme, which was seeing «New perspectives» in our asana postures and every day situations. She was descriptive without being too «foofy» with her language.
Sarah is very hands-​on. Within the first 15 minutes of class she had already adjusted me twice. I’m positive that everybody in the class got several adjustments. She was never standing still. She was always adjusting someone throughout the entire class time. As a yoga instructor myself, I admire her ability to do this. She stayed confident (without being arrogant) and present 100% of the time. It is clear Sarah is experienced and passionate about her work!
Whether you are a brand new yogi or very advanced, go to Sarah class! She will inspire you with her experience and you will leave with a new outlook on what yoga is all about.

Yoga gives you a physical work out, flexibility, and mental calmness, and at Hale they also give you a shot of a green smoothie after each class, which is why the place is called Hale Holistic — (Pronounced Heyl), meaning whole, healthy or sound; which makes total sense.
However i prefer the Hawaiian definition (pronounced Hah-​ley) meaning house or home because the space is open, inviting, and has lots of natural light; not to mention the friendly staff and community who makes you feel at home. I like that there is reclaimed wood which gives it a very rustic, inviting look to it. i also like that there are no mirrors, its not because I’m a vampire (or am I?) but with yoga i like to look inward rather than outward and i don’t like to compare.
I come here for Natalie’s ²⁄₃ Vinyasa classes on Sundays, she is great and offers a challenging class with many variations to go deeper into each pose. Having an advanced practice, means it can be difficult to find challenging classes. Yoga is a business and there are always more beginners that advanced yogis, so there are never many advanced classes and many times they get cut because there is not enough turn out. You don’t really need to have an advanced practice to take this class, just an open mind, a willingness to try, and a positive attitude. It’s also an exercise in setting your ego aside and accepting where you are in your practice and not comparing yourself to the person next to you.
I’ve also taken Sarah Clark’s class here. Over the years I’ve sough out her classes at other studios because she’s such a great teacher. She has a strong focus on the fundamentals and proper alignment, she is also very funny, and light hearted which is why I’ve sough her out in the past. But after taking her class this time, I’ve come to realize that her classes are too easy for me. I prefer a style that is more creative and offers more challenging poses (even if i can’t do them.) That being said, its those fundamentals and attention to detail that have gotten me where i am today, so I highly recommend her for beginners or those new to yoga. Proper alignment and fundamentals are the key to progressing and preventing injury.
I haven’t found it difficult to find parking mostly because i take sunday classes, when the parking meters aren’t in effect. On weekdays i try to take classes at 6, again because of the parking meters, and i usually find a 30 minute parking spot at around 5:45 which turns into legal parking after 6. I’d imagine that it might be difficult at different times just because its downtown.
I really like the vibe of the studio, its open and welcoming, i also like the shots of green smoothie at the end of each class, i don’t usually eat my greens so its a nice way to keep my body in balance. They also sell bottles of the smoothie if you want to take one home with you. The price for this studio is great too! $ 10 for your first week for new students, and $ 80 for unlimited classes per month.

This studio is a great gem in downtown SD. First of all, the décor immediately relaxes you upon entering. Coming from Core Power, I’ve been used to their particular ways of teaching group classes (not wrong, just different). From the large selection of props to help throughout class to the free green drink at the end, I left wanting more Hale! I took Kirk’s Saturday class and loved how he genuinely entertained us and creatively guided us through the practice. I would definitely return.

How do I say this without sounding like a psychopath? I am completely obsessed with Hale Holistic. I stumbled upon this place a couple of years ago when I was visiting San Diego, and it was like all of my dreams came true at once. Yoga AND green smoothies, along with a fun, earthy, non-​pretentious vibe that is welcoming to any level of student. I’ve taken Kirk’s classes (so fun, challenging, epic playlists) and I’ve been there for workshops.
Free green smoothie shots after class? That just takes my entire life to another level.
In my opinion it’s a crime to visit San Diego without going to Hale. :)

The second you walk in, you feel it. The vibe in the air of this place is just awesome. You immediately feel a sense of relaxation and good energy. The space is beautiful, the people are friendly and not the usual stuck up snotty yogis that you can sometimes run across. Everyone is excited to be there and there is no sense of judging or competitiveness, just an overall desire to learn. I have taken two classes so far and I’m sold.
Trevor is an awesome teacher that is laid back and you can tell that he works hard to get everyone in the room to checkout of life and check into their practice.
Bonus Bonus Bonus is the green smoothie shot at the end. It’s the little things like this that remind you that they are thinking about you long before you arrived for class and are really trying to help you kick start a healthy lifestyle.
The space is gorgeous too. I’m a big fan of urban living and it’s super cozy and peaceful.

This studio is very friendly and welcoming for beginner yogis like myself. I’m on a month of paid vacation so figured I might as well try this place due to it sounding cool on groupon (and I am always seeking new physical challenges).
So far I’ve gone to four morning classes with Rachel. She is likely the sweetest and most awesome yoga instructor ever!!! I’ve gone to various other yoga classes before this studio but Rachel is by far the most encouraging, enthusiastic, kind (and pretty! Not that it matters) teacher I have had. Her class is a lot of fun and even when you are awkward and fall over constantly like me, she is there to patiently correct your posture and help you succeed!
The studio itself is beautiful, natural lighting, plants everywhere atop a wall of reclaimed wood, and right across the street from the mission eatery! (Nom).
Bottom line I liked this place so much I convinced my brother and sister to purchase packages here also. Yay family yoga! So relaxing and fun!

My oh my… What CAN’T I say about Hale Holistic? Haven’t had a single bad experience with them. The studio is clean and welcoming, the bathroom is cute, and they have changing rooms available if you are coming from work (like I like to do!) and little boxes and cubbies for your personal items. Plus, they have ALL equipment available for you to use! Mats, blocks, yoga straps, they even have pillows and blankets for boosters/​relaxation time.
Every single instructor I have ever had has been funny, kind, open, warming, and knowledgable. The owner is very friendly, and his staff obviously really care about what they do.
Trevor is so funny and laid back, it’s hard to worry or stress in his class. He was getting us to practice our hand stands in one class, and I remember he said «Don’t worry if you flip over, I’ve done it! It’s not that bad!» It made me laugh but it also put me at ease that I wouldn’t be alone if I did it. And Olivia! Oh she was outstanding! I love that she sprayed lavander, and her overall demeanor is just so relaxing and comforting! The one time I took Rachel’s class, I don’t think I ever sweated so much in my life! Katrina, Kairou, Anna, Beth, Zoey! All of them too have been fantastic! I remember with Zoey I took kick boxing, and boy was I the special one in class! But she stayed patient with me and never once got frustrated or made me feel stupid for getting something wrong.
The best part about Hale Holistic? It’s open minded! They don’t get all weird if you have to modify or do things differently, or if something is not in your practice. They always give options, especially for the more difficult stuff. They always ask if you have injuries, and if any of them ever help you, they ALWAYS ask while they are doing so to make sure they are not pushing you too far. They are all there to help YOU get that time for YOU.
And added bonus; green drinks at the end of class! I can’t tell you how many times I have bought one to go! They give a shot, but I am greedy and for me that is never enough! The owner Kirk, really made some sort of veggie crack with that!
Overall, this has to be the BEST Yoga studio in San Diego! My only wish, is that I had more time to go more often!

If you’re thinking about trying yoga or looking for a yoga studio near the downtown area, I recommend giving hale holistic a try.
The studio is comforting and welcoming, as are the instructors. They provide all the necessary props you might need, including mats — if you’re a beginner, this could be helpful! While I wait for my mat in the mail, I’ve been using one of theirs, and really appreciate that they have that option.
It’s nicely locate 2 blocks away from the new public library, so if you have some studying to do, it’s just a hop, skip, & a jump away. If you are looking to nourish your belly after nourishing your soul at hale, I recommend sharing a sandwich with a friend downstairs at The Mission, and maybe a bean cloud shake if you’re a bad yogi ;)

I swear yoga studios anywhere, are as abundant as Starbucks coffee shops. I was a member with core power yoga for quite some time and while their many classes and locations are convenient, many of the programs never change and remain the same.
I discovered Hale through a free class at lululemon and bought a living social deal. My month is almost up but I’ll be going to Hale from here on out.
They have a beautiful space with a view of a bit of downtown and the Coronado bay bridge, which makes for an amazing experience.
After each session they give you a yummy green smoothie made from the veggies in the garden.
I train about 4 – 6 days a week in power lifting, Olympic lifting and crossfit and the yoga sessions have been doing wonders for my mobility and muscle tension.
I’ve gone to 6 of the candle lit detox/​gentle flow sessions and each one has been slightly different. Trevor has been amazing at tailoring the practice to any body areas people want to focus on.
I love it at Hale. The beautiful space, quality teaching and little details make it such a wonderful experience each time.
