U-Haul

This was the best moving truck rental experience I’ve had so far.
I was ready to deal with hard-​selling, up-​selling, and not getting the vehicle I paid for (I have paid for a 10′ truck and ended up having to drive a 16 – 24′).
This was completely different! So easy and pleasant. I got exactly the truck and tow dolly I reserved. The clerk simply asked if I needed truck insurance, I said ‘no’, and that was it. No fear-​mongering and hard-​selling. I was all ready to «defend» my not needing insurance, but he accepted my answer with no protest. He didn’t try to sell me supplies or extras. When I was unsure whether I’d need another half-​day, he just added one and waived the charge.
I would definitely rent here again if I wasn’t moving to Sacramento!

The most inconvenient rental ever. They don’t have the adapters you need for trailer lights so we had to go get that and come back, when I made my reservation I also asked for a dolly which I was told they had and then they did not. Their Unilocal page and business hours advertise open until 5pm, then I was told they closed at 3 pm today which means I will be charged more for returning the trailer to a different location, the service in general was not very good it seems like every time I rent a uhaul I never get what I reserve and it’s almost never an easy process.

Had a great experience with this location. Man at the front desk was very professional and polite. Quick service with no issues renting the truck. When I returned the truck, I ended up being a couple of miles over the estimated distance because I had to make an extra moving trip. He was very understanding and took the gas charge off the bill. I would definitely use this location again!

The main guy that runs this operation does a great job. His trucks are clean and up to par, always with gas in them. He gets you in and out with your rental in a very short amount of time and makes drop off equally as speedy. He also gave me free gas for referring other people for his services. I recommend renting a Uhaul or truck from Monarch to anybody.

This guy is legit, very great service. He called me before I was charged for the lower gas and said you can come fill it up no worries. I’d rather you not pay extra $ 75 for the gas that would equal to $ 10.

I never expected to be writing a review for a u-​haul company, but I had an amazingly good experience with them and felt obligated to share.
I recently got a new job in Denver and needed to relocate on short notice, from San Diego. I got quotes from Mayflower and other similar moving companies… insanely expensive, so I went with a U-​Haul and did it myself. I have a bad back and was concerned that crappy U-​Haul seats would wreak my back after driving straight 20 hours. So after making my no obligation reservation, I called Monarch rentals, explained my concerns, and asked if I could drop by and sit in a truck. I found the seats to be fine, surprisingly comfortable.
All of that is not the reason for writing this review. The reason I’m writing it is because when I called the day of my reservation to confirm a truck is available they said ‘yes, head down, we have been holding a truck for a few days, for you, with about 6000 miles on it, so the seats are new’. Really cool of them and unexpected. Great customer service, and saved me literally thousands of dollars opposed to Mayflower.

I went online to find a rental truck. All the prices across the board, online, seemed really high, so I went to the local Uhaul store in North Park (Monarch Rentals) to talk to someone about my move. Luck brought me in the door, as this location was simply near my house. Shawn was able to give me a great deal when I went in, way better than the online quotes from Uhaul and others. They also had everything I needed for packing, at good prices, comparable to Lowes and Home Depot.
This was no ordinary move either, it was over 1,500 miles across country. The truck performed great over the long distance, and after dealing with Shawn, I was confident I had the truck I needed, at a great price with no up-​sale and BS. If you’re considering renting a truck from Uhaul, don’t mess with the online quotes, just cruise down El Cajon and look for these guys on the south side of the street. The location is unassuming, but they’ll take great care of your moving needs here! I highly recommend this Uhaul dealer.

I rented a U-​haul from this location because it was right around the corner from me in North Park. This was by far the best U-​Haul rental experience I’ve had and I would gladly drive to this location to rent again.
The front desk service was friendly and quick — I did express check-​in service online (not sure how much of a difference it made), but we were in and out pretty fast. The trucks are newer models and this was much nicer than other trucks I’ve used, which were a lot older. I realized that morning I wished I had rented a dolly online to make sure I had one, but this location had several extra so I was able to rent one without a problem. I also realized I wished I had rented the truck for a little bit longer, but management worked with me to give me an extra hour (since someone else had the truck rented right after me).
I really appreciated how accommodating the staff was for me. The price was great for my short move from North Park to Little Italy and I had a great experience renting from this location. Definitely would rent from here again!

I rented twice for in town moves here. Convenient, neat restaurants nearby, my wife booked wrong location and they were able to adapt to suit my needs. I went seven miles by the odometer and put two gallons so the next mover had a little extra. Very nice family business. Leave the world a better place and «pay it forward». ;)

I’m not sure how I feel about this UHAUL location. And I’m only giving it 3 stars because they didn’t rip us off that much as if we were to go to another one.
Front desk man-​not friendly and not much of a talker or customer service oriented. Very blunt and direct. Felt like he was grumpy most of the time. Didn’t experience the «great» customer service that everybody raved about, and the top 100 uhaul location of all times. Maybe I came on a bad day?
Trucks: In good condition, can do a late drop off-​have a key drop off box after hours-​that was a plus. We rented a 14ft truck, plenty available, inside was pretty decent, except the drivers/​passenger seating, there were dirty soda spill stains in the middle seating that looks like it’s been there forever.
Gas: I think this is were we got ripped off. We went here because «they don’t try to make a penny off of you» We got the truck at 73 682.50 miles, and returned it at 73 687.50 (see pictures of odometer attached to this review), we literally and I can say we only drove 5 miles total according to the odometer, 5 miles. The truck claims it’s 10 mpg to a gallon. We moved from Hillcrest to North Park-​no big hills, no heavy traffic, 1.5 mile each way to old/​new place, didn’t leave the truck on anytime except driving, etc. The guy charged us for 4 gallons, at $ 4 each. $ 4 isn’t bad (compared to the gas stations) but my main concern was not the $ 4, but the fact that he said we used 4 gallons, 2 gallons I understand, 3 is cutting it, but 4 gallons is ridiculous on a 5 mile move. And if the website is even right 10mpg is not 4 gallons. According to the UHAUL facts, we should have gotten charged at most 2 gallons but instead we got charge double that price… that was our only mistake, not filling up the gas because we thought «5 mile move, that’s like 1 – 2 gallons, no need to fill it» And it literally went down barely over to the next line. It came at 5/​8^th, we returned it at a tid bit over ½ (which is ⁴⁄₈^th) using only ¹⁄₈^th of gas. It must have been that the truck was barely even at 5/​8^th, maybe on the lower end and we got jipped. I just don’t see how 5 miles is 4 gallons. I feel uneasy about that. I know thats not much and not a big deal, but it’s that concept of not trying to rip you off that makes me feel uneasy.
So beware: Fill your own gas, yes $ 4 per gallon is cheap, but not when you get charged twice the price. Other than that-​the move went fine for us. Maybe 5 more miles and we would have gotten charged for the whole tank of gas.
I’m sorry about this review, but this was my honest experience.

I see great reviews on Unilocal here, so I called and got a reservation from Stephanie — very nice and thorough. She emailed my reservation number before I was off the phone with her. Way to go! So far, so great!
5 stars if the rental if available the day we reserved it! (one time in the past with Uhaul in a «««different location/​different city *** we reserved and showed up and it wasn’t there… NOT expecting that to happen again.

very friendly! I came to the location after checking on Unilocal first… glad I came to the right place! I will make sure to use this location next time! $ 54 total! I had the truck for 24 hours, .79 cents a mile, drove from mission valley to Chula Vista and back!

I have been renting Uhaul trucks from Monarch Rentals for 3 years now for various annual events I coordinate.
The front desk man (can’t remember his name) seemed a bit unfriendly at first. But in fact, he’s always been very helpful and friendly by making special accommodations for my rentals. Definitely not unfriendly.
Good location, I’ve never had any problems with the trucks or rentals. I absolutely recommend this place.

Called this place the morning of to see if they had a ten foot uhaul at the last minute and they did! Drove there and they were already starting my paperwork. Decided to get a 14 foot instead and they didn’t have a problem. Took like 15 mins total. Super quick. I only needed it for a couple hours.
I only saw two people working there and they are on it!
I had to return it by 2 pm. The receptionist said that I returned it so quickly. She was impressed. I was happy. I had a good experience. They were honest with their work. I appreciated that.

Shawn is the epitome of customer service. Moving and all the arrangments that come with it are so exhausting, both physically and mentally. Shawn seems to understand that and was incredibly accommodating and professional. I have never come across such a shining example of what customer service should be about.
I would go out of my way to do business with Shawn again.

Amazing customer service and very friendly knowledgeable staff … I think it is a family operated branch, they are great and they have all the supplies you need for your move in or out of town!

The guy was friendly, helpful and quick. He had all of the extra moving supplies that I needed on hand and even waived the late fee for bringing back the truck a little late.
They have everything you need and they are great people.

Monarch Rentals was awesome. He helped me hitch up my car/​dolly, offered to let me have the equipment an extra day or two, and was very helpful. Great to have this kind of help during times of stress and chaos. I was hauling all my items 550 miles, so it was a good send-​off in San Diego.
