U-Haul

In the age of information… they can’t communicate. Call them up, you get some poor corporate person who doesn’t know what the particulars store has or doesn’t have. They make sure there is no way to call the store itself. I’ve driven out there several times only to find out they are out of what I needed.

I had my uhaul box shipped and stored here for over a year, rented a uhaul box truck for a move, and a few months later rented another box truck to transport a large armoire. Each time I have had outstanding service. Even when they’ve been busy they did their best to help me. The place is laid back and still maintains their professionalism. John (manager?) always helps us choose the best option for us and makes us feel like we’re taken care of. Joseph and another guy (unfortunately I cannot recall his name) have also been an extreme help and all three of them are always friendly and welcoming. They all seem grounded and hardworking so they’ve given us a great experience every time.

Really easy going U-​Haul where there was no wait and no fuss over my request to switch what I wanted at the last moment. Everything went as planned and there were not extra or hidden charges. I was surprised with just how easy it was and wish my move was just as easy as renting a truck had been!

Bottom line up front: use this location for all of your shipping needs. The General Manager, Alex, is incredibly helpful and will make your shipping experience great.
Moving from San Diego to Texas is hard enough, but fitting everything you own into one U-​Box is even more challenging. Alex helped secure discounted shipping solutions after a phone mix up, then spent almost an hour helping us transfer everything from the truck to the box. Without his help, I’m not sure we could have managed getting everything to fit. If a business is really only as good as it’s employees, then by all counts this U-​Haul location is great!

Had to move a couch from one place to another. Did the whole reserve a truck thing online the day before. Arrived and the staff was friendly and helped me to a vehicle quickly. Arrived back about a hour later and dropped it off. Quick checkout and out the door!

Mark, the manager here, does NOT care about his customers. This guy needs a reality check.
I called this uhaul yesterday afternoon to check on truck rental availability and to reserve one for a big move today. The woman at UHaul I spoke with told me there was no need to reserve the truck. I questioned here and she again said it wouldnt be a problem. This was just yesterday afternoon.
Then this morning i show up and they have no trucks that arent *reserved*. I explain that I called and was told it wouldnt be a problem. Mark the manager had NO concern for the mix up. First he flat told me no one would say that to me. Well they did and I assured him of it. Then he said it was an answering service I spoke to (during the day??). That was my explanation (or excuses). No apology and little to say about it.
So I asked if he could find one. Mark the manager looks for a truck locally for me. He finds one thats only 2.5 miles away. Cool, at least ill get the truck I thought. I get in my vehicle and punch the address in the GPS and the location was by national city! Way further than Mark said it was and i was pressed for time so I went back in to see if it was a mistake. This is where Mark the manager sealed this review and a call to corporate.
I tell him this place isnt 2.5 miles like he said, it was down by national city. Mark looks at me and says «I dont have time for this. Do you want it or not??» Excuse me kid? You dont talk to me like that. You dont talk to anyone like that! Not in a public management position. We will see about that.
So Mark had zero concern for me after I was misinformed. Here’s a recap of my customer service from Mark the manager so far: He calls me a liar, saying no one told me that. Then he acts like I should have known to reserve a truck even though I CALLED yesterday and was told not to bother by UHaul themselves. So after explaining and defending myself, Mark quickly finds a local truck for me but lies to me about drive distance. Then Mark wouldnt help me when I went back to find out why I was given misinformation AGAIN. by Mark himself. Oh and it gets better…
When I went back in and I wasnt happy with his attitude (read above) this guy actually asked me to leave the store! I hadnt made a scene (not yet anyways) and was simply trying to get some HELP and Mark refused to help me beyond the little he had already done. Dude LIED to me then kicked me out of his store when I called him on it. In front of customers too. Highly unprofessional on several levels to be certain.
I actually couldnt move today because of this mix up. Marks attitude and blaring lack of concern will always be what I remember UHaul for. Great representative. I had this planned for days and called ahead, but my plans were ruined today by this BS.
I’ll be contacting corporate regarding Mark the manager on monday. I told Mark Id be reviewing this online and he told me to go ahead! So here ya go Mark. You dont care right? Its guys like you that kill a business by word of mouth. Today you effectively eliminated dozens of potential local customers that are associates of mine. But I highly doubt you care deep down based on your treatment of customers. We will see if your superiors care on Monday.

I was helped by Mark today and he set up everything very fast. There were no hidden fees. He was cordial and professional.

I use U-​Haul cargo vans for 4 reasons; to take stuff to storage, to sell at the swap meet, to get furniture at IKEA, and to move. I have used this U-​Haul at 43^rd & El Cajon Blvd. because it’s the nearest, most convenient location. I keep coming back because I get good service! The employees are friendly & helpful, and I have never had any problems. The store is neat, there are lots of supplies, and check out is fast and easy. I recommend them.

These people were super helpful. I needed a uhaul that day for a few hours. They let me rent one and even stayed after hours for me to drop the uhaul back off.

These guys were great and went above and beyond to help on what was a very stressful moving day for me. I read some of the older reviews and can only imagine they must be under new ownership because the staff was nothing but polite and knowledgable and really went out of their way for me. Highly recommended!

Moving can be stressful. I just moved out of state and was quite busy and it was critical that my hitch installation and trailer rental be accomplished in a very tight time-​frame.
The folks at U-​haul at 4311 El Cajon blvd took very good care of my install and the rental trailer was clean and no mechanical issues.
No complaints whatsoever.

Over the past ten years I have moved at least a half-​dozen times. I can honestly say that this was one of the best U-​Haul experiences I’ve had. The service was fast and friendly, and the trailer I rented was clean and in good working condition. They hooked it up for me, made sure all of the lights were working, and reminded me what time I had to have it back the next day. I was in and out in about 15 minutes.
Although I’m in no hurry to move again, I will definitely use this U-​Haul location when I do.

On ⁹⁄₂₂ I made an appointment to have a hitch receiver installed at 7:00am ⁹⁄₂₈. On ⁹⁄₂₆ I received a call asking if I’d like to have it done ⁹⁄₂₇ instead. I phoned back to say I couldn’t do that, and then was told, «ok see you at 1:00pm on Saturday» — oh? Schedule was changed to a conflict with another appointment.
At 2:00pm on ⁹⁄₂₈ I received an email confirming my 1:00pm appointment — 1 hour after the fact — guess it’s a good thing I bothered to phone them back on ⁹⁄₂₆.
I showed up just before 1:00pm on ⁹⁄₂₆ and dropped off my vehicle, then went to eat lunch. About 45 minutes later I get a phone call saying there is a problem — they don’t have the hitch in stock. I return to the shop, where customer in front of me is also complaining because customer service has mistakenly set his appointment for the wrong day. The store is able to contact the Poway location, which has the hitch in stock, and so I drive the 18.4 miles to Poway and have the installation there.
I also received a customer service email asking me to login to the website to complete a review of my purchase experience — what do you know — the website can’t identify my contract number — which I mouse-​copied from the customer service email.
Sorry U-​Haul, I was going to refrain from posting a Unilocal review until i gave your company a chance to respond, but it is painfully obvious that there is a SERIOUS DISCONNECT between your online presence and what’s actually going on at your retail centers.
There is more negative details I can add to this review, but I will abstain, since in the end U-​Haul was able to complete the work.

I went in to ask some questions about an upcoming move. if you have ever been to a uhaul it goes from empty to full of customers rather quickly. the place filled right when I got there and the guy behind the counter is about the only business man ive dealt with in months that was courteous and treated me like an equal.

This U Haul location is horrible and unprofessional. They scheduled a 6pm pick up for a tow dolly for me and turned me away saying that they «didn’t have time» to wire the truck that my friend loaned me. Why would you schedule a pick up that you didn’t have time for. They told me they were «too busy». They had no concern for my urgency to have my car towed. Please go somewhere else. One of the employees pulled out a cigarette and started smoking while he was talking to me. This is truly the worst U Haul facility I have ever been to. I would give them zero stars if Unilocal let me.

When I select 4 stars, it says «Yay! I’m a fan.» I don’t know if I’m a fan of U-​Haul, but they have their shit together. I called to make the reservation earlier in the week. It was quick and painless. That weekend, when I showed up to pick up the truck, it was a short wait while the rep finished up with the guy in front of me and then I was out the door with my truck.
The truck carried my stuff to my new house without any issues. It was comfortable and clean. I dropped it off at the pre-​determined destination, dropped the keys in the key drop and haven’t heard anything from them since. The store seemed to have everything you needed to move: boxes, tape of many different kinds, dollys and other moving things.
The location opens at 7:00am, too. It’s nice to get the truck and start loading before it gets too warm out. :)

They did a great job putting a trailer hitch on my honda. Recommend highly!

I barely drove the U-​haul and it was at where they had asked the gas meter to be and they called me the next morning at 8am saying it was at ¹⁄₈ not ¼(where it was supposed to be) which is a total lie. I should have taken a picture. They said on the phone if I didn’t come to fill it up they would charge me $ 50. They charged me $ 61. First off, it was NOT at ¹⁄₈ and if it was it shouldn’t take FOUR GALLONS of gas to get it to ¼. Second, I work full time I don’t have time to run down to the u-​haul place to fill it up (even though it didn’t need to be). It ended up costing be $ 110 for a four hour rental (I used it for MAYBE 1 hour and ½). I’m extremely disappointed in your policy and you totally ripped off a struggling college student. I will NEVER recommend or use u-​haul ever again, which is sad because I’ve used it before and have been satisfied. I guess I won’t be eating for a week now that I’m $ 60+ extra dollars in the hole. $ 60 by the way would fill up my car nearly TWICE. Thanks for nothing U-​Haul.

Worst Uhaul. We towed down a car from northern Cali. My fiancé works 60 hours a week so we decided to go return it on his lunch since there is no time otherwise. When we pulled up there were two employees jack hammering away out front doing some remodeling. I walked in to the office and was in line behind a black family of three. The owner (a big, fat, old man) was assisting them in renting a trailer to move. They were asking all sorts of questions, taking forever, and even used Uhaul’s phone to make a call! The owner just looks at me and doesn’t even bother to ask what I needed help with or say that someone would be with me shortly (since apparently one of the other THREE there couldn’t).
All I needed was to return a damn car trailer, which would take him all of 5 seconds to ask me that and get one of the three employees there to help me. After waiting for TEN MINUTES (with the clock ticking for my fiancé to get back to work), one of the other working employees walked in to ask the owner a question. He was on his way out when he noticed me standing there looking all annoyed and asked how he could help me… FIINALLY, someone who gives a shit. The owner didn’t even tell him to help me; he was just nice enough and smart enough to service customers the way its supposed to be done. He is the ONLY reason I gave an extra star to this horrible business, as it would have otherwise been one.
Writing this review two weeks after the fact goes to show how much that fat man really pissed me off.
