Unleashed by Petco

I love having this store in the neighborhood! Every time I stop in, the employees are always very helpful and friendly. They’re also the closest pet store to us that carry the dog food our dogs eat. I especially appreciated the time that my bf and I came in with my dog to pick out some cookie treats and the second we got to the section my dog grabbed a cookie and proceeded to try to bolt out the door. Since I was the one who was going to pay I was struggling to try to hand my card over to my boyfriend while still keeping a handle on our dog. The employee who was working at the cash register saw all of this go down and ended up giving the cookie my dog took, as well as a few others for our other dog to us for free! That really made our day, so thank you Unleashed employee!

This place has been a god-​send especially once it became an extension of Petco, There were two or three new people, now employed with the new Unleashed, who were very knowledgeable, friendly and funny and have been a fixture for a long time. I can not express how much I appreciate them and I regret I don’t recall their names. My loyalty to this store has been set; that is until yesterday.
I bought a product a few days before and had expressed my concern at the time of purchase that it may make my pet sick, since most things with him is trial and error — he is a parvo survivor. The process to find the product my pet needed, what I usually buy, was more than I hoped for. The guy even went online to the ‘Market’ to try to find the product since it was no longer on their shelves. It turns out, it is no longer in the Market or any Petco store around — they would not be carrying the product anymore at all. For my pet and his belly sake, that’s a problem. Once i find something that works for him I have to stick to it. But as he was looking online for it, he kept looking and found it on Amazon for me. Wow! Thank you! I am a Prime customer! In the end, I left with a substitute since the need was for ‘right now’. I didn’t catch his name but YOU ROCK! :D But I had to return the item since it did make my pet sick, to no fault of anyone except the parvo damage, leaving my pet with a lifetime of special care.
I was curious about this ‘Market’ so when I went to take the item back, some spastic, rude, little freak girl with ‘I don’t own a comb’ hair hopped-​up on god-​knows-​what wouldn’t let me get past saying, «I bought this the other day…»
«NO! NOPE! NO NEED TO EXPLAIN. NO! NO! DON’T NEED TO HEAR IT! MMMNNNMM…(shaking her head ‘no’)»
«.right. its’ just that it made him sick so I wanted to find out…» (about this Market place online I was trying to say, you know, a place to spend more money?! on the products that cater to my pets needs!!!)
«WE JUST TAKE IT BACK, NO NO, DON’T NEED TO HEAR IT! WE DO REFUNDS WITHIN X DAYS… WILL JUST TAKE A SEC. NOO PROBLEM.»
«I was wondering…» (she’s not even listening, instead talking over me, yelling almost)

Me, standing there getting a little weary of this scary little rude b^tch. Geez! It came to the point where I would swipe the card I used, but by then I was staring in a state of what felt like shell shock.

I obeyed before she reached over, grabbed me by the hair and smacked me around but it wasn’t responding because a.) her overwhelming, spazzy, hyper-​agitated, not willing to listen to a damn word or question that would prompt more sales, freackazoidness was starting to really freak me out! I wanted to leave but b*tch had my money, so to speak.
«HIT THE BLUE BUTTON. HIT THE BLUE BUTTON, HIT IT. HIT IT. HIT IT. HIT IT.»
I was trying. What the hell… she hit a key on her register then reached over, I flinched as she grabbed the card swipe unit thing, slammed the blue button as it it were a deadly spider while saying, «I TOLD YOU TO HIT THE BLUE BUTTON…(smirked like i’m an idiot, shaking her head in that ‘god you’re dumb’ kind of shake of head people do)
The transaction was complete, I could get my receipt back and the one reflecting the return back to my card. That is the legal transaction, in keeping with customers rights.
BUT…instead, she, while holding my receipt, me with outstretched hand to get it back and get the hell out of there, in one motion she takes my receipt and rips it IN HALF. I need that.

Now, if that’s true, why did she RIP it?
The truth is, she was seriously hopped-​up on something, just reacting and without thinking, speaking incredibly fast and loud, not listening, even when I want to find a way to spend more money. To me, this is my go-​to pet store. I didn’t say, «if it’s policy to keep it, why did you rip it» because at this point the evidence of logic not operating is apparent and you NEVER, EVER! try to reason with someone when they’re tweaking, freak’n or having a weird trip — EVER! She said she would make a copy so she could keep the (ripped??) original. Fine. …wtf. She went in the back, it took like five min. When she reappeared I asked, «let me see your eyes?». She smiled, batting her lashes, «they’re hazel!». «No», I said, «I wasn’t looking at the color. You need to calm down, you’re giving yourself away» I whispered. And left.
One word: Petsmart. It’s conveniently just opened across the street, has all we need. Thank you Unleashed normal, friendly, fun people for your years of help! But my pets care is A1 Priority, I will not tolerate that nor jeopardize their health to accommodate that behavior.

Wish I could give this place more than five stars, I practically lived here for three months while my puppy Larry was going through his training. Ali was the best trainer, I signed up for a group puppy class but was greeted with one on one training! Larry absolutely loves everyone in Unleashed and knows as soon as we pull into the Von’s parking lot we are going to his favorite store. Small store but always has what I need!

This place is convenient. It is not too big, not too small. The staff is incredibly attentive and knowledgeable. They always have the products we expect.
But I wish they carried Fresh Step cat litter. It is the only kind that works and I have tried a lot of brands.

Small little placed tucked in next to CVS on garnet in Pacific Beach. Seems rather skewed toward dogs. It has good leash and toy options along with a wide variety of dog food but only one small area for dry cat food. They mostly have what I need for day to day stuff like basic pet food, if you aren’t too picky, but look for anything specific and you are better off heading to the Petco or Petsmart store in Sports Arena/​Point Loma. Personally, I would rather find a mom and pop pet store and support local business but sadly this is all PB has to offer.

My dog Stewart absolutely loves unleashed! If we are in the parking lot– he knows it and wants to sprint to the front door. He gets treats and so much love– so he keeps going back! Ariana and Lisa are wonderful!

I feel pretty much the same here as I do at any Petco store. They mostly have what I need. I always wish they had more selection in food for my picky cat who gets sick of flavors from time to time and is hard to keep happy in that way. The stores are always clean, friendly and quick to get in and out of and usually are found in strip malls which means parking is easy to find.

This is my baby’s favorite place to visit! Everyone is always so helpful. I don’t remember her name, but there was one lady in particular that was extremely helpful with my picky eater. She gave me tons of samples for dry food for my dog and let him test out which one he liked. Even when I came back to buy the full back she said if he didn’t like it, I could return it! I never feel like I’m being sold on anything and love how helpful and sweet they are to my dog. 5 stars for sure!

This place isn’t too bad if you need to go pick up some pet supplies. A lot smaller than the PETCO stores and has less options. They’re pretty busy and there weren’t many people on the floor but I was able to find what I needed. I would recommend a large store over here but if you need something in a pinch this is a good place to go.

Lisa, the General Manager, was very helpful. We were looking for a harness for our boxer and she helped us find the perfect one! All the staff was very nice and friendly there as well!

We just completed the Adult 1 training class with Brigid. Our two dogs had so much fun. They looked forward to going to the class every week. Brigid was so helpful and upbeat throughout the course. One of our dogs is extremely skittish and shy. Brigid showed us how we could still train her effectively (I was having trouble alone before). We learned how to train both our dogs and learned numerous commands. She helped solve some other behavioral issues as well (such as jumping). I recommend training at this location. It’s close and convenient. Also, because the store is smaller, it is a nice atmosphere for training.

I just adopted a dog & had to get a lot of supplies & the girl that assisted me was extremely helpful! She helped me from toys to kennel & was very knowledgeable about every product. She even helped.

The place has what we need for our little pup, but it is a small store and the selection is limited. They’ve been out of treats twice since we’ve come through. On the other than hand I feel like prices are consistent or lower than Petco and the staff is super-​friendly and always willing to help answer questions.

My dog and I did a clicker training class with Brigid over the last month and it was amazing! Brigid taught me how to train my dog very effectively with the clicker and my dog had a great time! We learned basic commands as well as some fun ones and she taught me how to get started with a variety of behaviors. Well worth the money spent! Not only have we learned a lot, but my communication with my dog, both verbal and nonverbal is much deeper. Definitely recommend!
