People beware! After a recent visit with this practice, I am left feeling taken advantage of. I never write reviews and this will be my first. Let me first start by stating that I had no issue with the procedures done (3 fillings), but rather with the lack of customer concern on part of the staff. I am new to San Diego and have been looking for a provider in my area. When I called Dr. Avery’s office, I asked specific questions to ensure my insurance was in network to alleviate as much out of pocket as necessary. Long story short, after my procedure I was faced with a $ 700 bill. I called the office and my insurance company the next day and eventually found out that I was not only misinformed about being in network, but that I was overcharged for each procedure by $ 100.15. Had I not taken the time to call and dig into this issue myself, this dental office would’ve taken full advantage. I feel this is poor customer care and lack of attention to detail. I am aware the part I should’ve taken with this, but would have appreciated more empathy and explanation of coverage on behalf of the experts.

Dr. Avery is the best. I’m so thankful such a skilled, personable, fun, and kind dentist took over my childhood dentist’s practice. No better dentists out there than at this place – I’ve been to many all over the country. They set the bar!

My sweetie, sugar pie and I have been coming here for many year! Dr. Avery in an angle with a dental pick! All of my treatments have been both flawless and painless, and my sweetie comes more than me! Today she’s getting a double dose of dental cleaning to prepare for our thanks giving feast! But seriously, the Dr., and the staff are wonderful, we wish Debbie a speedy recovery, and we highly recommend Dr. Avery’s services to people who care about their teeth, and want a little sugar on them too!
Did I mention that I bring my teeth here every couple of months and they floss them and give them back good as new!!! Wow!

When I went in for a routine cleaning, I was shocked to find out that I had not one, but over four cavities in three molars. I work as a server in a local restaurant, so you can only imagine how scared I was to see the proposed bill for the treatment. Bebe was extremely kind and understanding about financial needs… she calmed me down from tears and gave me many options, which in the past, have not been offered from other dentists!
During the actual treatment — filling cavities, Dr. Avery was a dream come true! She is very in-​tune with your needs, is constantly asking if you are doing great, and she uses an awesome support staff to make sure everything is done correctly and efficiently. I was in and out with no pain, no fear, and all with a financial plan (thanks to Bebe!).
Bottom line, do yourself a favor and make Dr. Avery and her staff your dental care provider. Exceptional service with a smile — and it’s authentic!

I’ve been traumatized since childhood from previous dental experiences. After many years, I was referred to Dr. Avery. She is the best dentist, hand down. She is very caring and gentle and she makes sure she gets the job done! I will not go to anyone but her! I love her and her staff, especially Bebe. She takes that extra mile to ensure you get the proper care you need. They are very accommodating and I’m always recommending her to whoever I come across! She makes your experience quite comfortable.

My family & I have been cared for here ever since moving to San Diego in 1978. We were all extremely disappointed when Dr. Hadaway was transitioning into retirement, but Dr. Avery is an more than competent, friendly, caring & professional, as is all her staff. Wouldn’t consider anyone else for dental services.

I have been going to Dr. Avery for several years now, and I’m still very happy with the work and service she and her staff provide. I am so glad to finally have a dentist that I can trust. Her work is always of great quality — absolutely worthy of 5 stars!

Amazing, amazing, amazing! I can’t say enough about Dr. Avery and all of the staff here. Everyone is so welcoming, and Dr. Avery is the only dentist I’ve ever been to that is just so warm, understanding and genuinely cares about your dental health. It shows in every way, and I feel 2000% confident in her hands. I’m actually excited to continue this path to great teeth — who knew!

Since moving to San Diego two and a half years ago I needed to find a local dentist since the one I had previously gone to, I had seen for 20 years (but is not local to me now). After going to one other dentist, I thought I would get a second opinion from Dr Avery and I am glad I did!
When I first arrived, it felt like home… their office IS inside a converted home! I made an appointment with Bebe for a month out as I called to make an appointment on Christmas Eve, but Dr Avery was on vacation at that time which was fine because I was just looking for a quote. They were able to send me the initial paperwork by email so that I could have everything completed and ready for my file as soon as I came in for my appointment.
My appointment was on Martin Luther King Jr Day, so the office was very busy with a lot of government workers that could finally make the time to go to the dentist without having to take time off work. I was in and out of their office within 1 hour which I was impressed about considering the first dental appointment was 3 hours (xrays and cleaning at the other dentist).
The chairs are super comfortable and they have TVs from the ceiling that you can watch. Normally, dentist’s just have pictures on the ceiling.
Dr Avery came in and she was so nice and thorough. She actually cares about her patients and I felt very comfortable with the advice she gave me. She even suggested doing LESS dental work then the other dentist had suggested and her prices are a few hundred dollars less than the original quote I received!
Dr Avery only takes Delta Dental, so I have to change my current coverage if I would like part of the work I need done completed at a lower cash out of pocket cost. The work I was quoted for was one tooth extraction and one cavity with crown replacement. Fortunately, because I have no tooth pain, I am able to wait a few months to have the work completed. Dr Avery gave no pressure to have any work done and said whenever I am ready that she can help.
When it came time to leave, Bebe at the front even wrote down details for me to research and have my insurance changed which I did within 2 hours of leaving my appointment, but learned that my current HMO coverage would go up another $ 20 a month. I will make the switch as soon as I can!
The dental assistant that greeted me was also very nice and I even got to meet one of the dental hygienists, Susan, that has worked there for 12 years later that evening as I live close enough to the dentist to walk there. She recognized me from earlier that day being in their office and let me know, «You’re in good hands.» when I told her that I had been ‘shopping dentists’.
Parking is on the street and free and unlimited (no 2 hour limit, just note the street sweeping signs once a month between 7 and 10 a.m. on Hornblend… a $ 55 ticket…)
I don’t think anyone really enjoys going to the dentist, but if it’s necessary, I would definitely check out Dr Avery!

I’ve been to plenty of dentists over the years and I have never had a dentist quite like this. She is gentle and friendly. The staff is also beyond friendly. I am now a lifetime patient to Dr. Avery.

The team at Dr. Avery’s dental office is great. I have recommended scheduling an appointment to several friends and coworkers. They are very accommodating. Beebe is the best, too. If you schedule an appointment, you’ll most likely talk to her and understand why I like her. The hygienists are thorough and informative. They get right to work and you leave there with a smile. Dr. Avery is so much fun — not your typical stuffy dentist.

I have been going to Dr Avery and Hadaway since I was a 22 year old living in Pacific Beach back in 2003. I could literally write a 20 page review about how awesome Dr. Avery and her entire staff is. Top 3 reasons why you need to use Dr. Avery for all of your dental needs:
1) She is very professional, trustworthy, and puts you at ease.
2) Her staff is amazing, super friendly and always go above and beyond. Deb her hygienist will give you the most thorough yet most stress free and painless cleaning of your life! Deb and Dr. Avery give extremely good advice on how to maintain your teeth outside of the dentist office.
3) They will make you feel like family, they genuinely truly care about you as a person and make real connections with their patients.

Hands down the best dentistry I’ve ever been to! Every single person on staff is so so welcoming and friendly. They make you feel so comfortable. Dr. Fitzgerald Lee is the most sweet genuine man. Its a place you can absolutely trust. Honest dentists are hard to come by, but you will definitely get the best honest care here. They are reasonable and fair and they respect your time too. I no longer dread dentist appointments. Thank you!!! See you again soon!

Who likes going to the dentist, ever? Not me… except to see the friendly, happy, and professional staff at Dr. Avery’s office. They genuinely care about their patients and go above and beyond to take care of us, get to know us, and provide exceptional dental care.
They have squeezed me in for urgent needs, have respected my time when I’ve been rushed, and are prompt and courteous in reminding me when I am due for a cleaning.
We enjoyed Dr. Hadaway and it was so wonderful to see Dr. Avery step in and provide such exceptional service and support.
I will also add that I enjoy the modern technology, latest conveniences for patients, and the tea at the front lobby. All special touches to make you feel at home and welcome. They spare no expense in providing comfort and technology for patients.
I highly recommend Dr. Avery and her staff for all of your dental needs. 5 STARS in my book!

If you’re looking for a new dentist then you have found a good one here. Not only is Dr. Avery professional and trustworthy, her staff is amazing. I have never felt so welcome in a dentist office or any office for that matter. Debbie is an amazing dental hygienist. She makes the visit worth it. Not only is she very thorough, she educates you every step of the way. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Oh and I received a fresh cookie on my way out today. How great is that?
This dentist office has passed my expectations and I’m glad that I was lucky to have found it. And no they didn’t ask me to write a review and I don’t know them personally. The visit here left such a great impression on me that I felt I needed to let the rest of the individuals searching for a good dentist to know about them.

I already had a very good dentist in Grossmont, but was looking for something closer to home (PB). My colleague Vince recommended Dr. Avery, and I trusted his opinion so I gave her a try.
Dr. Avery is very professional and thorough, and her colleagues perform precise digital X-​Rays (which have only a very small percentage of the radiation of traditional X-​Rays).
Her hygenist, whose name escapes me at the moment, was also professional and did a great job. Then again, not to toot my own horn, but I brush and floss on the daily so I am normally a model patient.
Apparently they now have a pediatric dental service at the same location, so I plan to take my 2 year-​old daughter sometime soon!

My All-​Time Favorite Dentist & I have a $ 50,000 mouth! Dr Avery is a dental genius & her team is outstanding, fun, funny little atmosphere here. She has fixed several of my crowns but her best work is my front tooth. It’s a full crown right smack in the middle of where it really counts…(I’m not the most graceful person & I slipped & fell on my face when I was a teenager). Before I met Dr Avery I had a series of mediocre fixes & crowns. You can usually tell when someone has a crown on their front tooth by the grayness around the top of the tooth… not this one, it’s perfect, perfect color, perfect match… you literally cannot tell that it’s a crown, a beautiful piece of dental art! Could not recommend Dr Avery more, she’s the best there is. You will not be disappointed.

I’ve been a patient here for ~4 years, and when Dr. Haddaway became ill and cut back his work load, I was terrified, once again, of meeting a new dentist. However, I was assured Dr. Avery was just was fantastic as Wayne and all the other staff in the office.
From the very moment you meet Dr. Avery, you feel safe with her hands digging in your maw. A gentle, funny, sweet soul who completely cares about her patients.
Susie the is the most wonderful dental assistant you could ever hope to have suck spit out the back of your throat. I really, truly, adore this woman. Big personality, paired with a big heart. I want to be Susie when I grow up.
Debbie, The Worlds Great Dental Hygienist, is like the mother and best friend everyone always wished they had. When I first came to Debbie, it had been (legit) 7 years since I’d been to a dentist. My gums were bleeding and my plaque build up was sincerely impressive. She took her time with me and built up my confidence before taking a huge or painful plunges into my mouth. It took a handful of visits, and some serious discipline on my part, but Debbie helped me get my mouth back in shape ! Now, Ian M. can’t blame his gum issues on me. :D
I look forward to seeing Susie and Debbie and Vaida as if they were my girlfriends I haven’t seen for months. Tell them Kyla sent you, and they’ll automatically assume you’re super awesome and treat you like a rockstar. But, keep in mind, they love me the most. ;)

My little brother and I still blame our mother’s insistence on going to a family friend who was a (super-​creepy and painful) dentist for our absolute terror of dental work. That being said, I am usually a whiny, unhappy, picky person when it comes to anyone poking around inside my mouth. Having shared this info with a friend, she recommended Dr. Avery to me, and I have never been the same since!
This office is filled with the most caring, fun-​loving, yet totally efficient people I have ever encountered in a medical office. From April, who does all appointment booking and insurance processing (and leaves great voicemails), to Susie the most hilarious hygienist I have ever encountered, I actually look FORWARD to going to my dental appointments!
Dr. Avery herself is so gentle, and SO good. You don’t even feel the «tiny bit of pressure» that she warns you of when she delicately uses the needle of novacaine, as she constantly checks to make sure that you are comfortable and aware of what is going on. It also doesn’t hurt that above every chair there is a tv and headphones if you just cannot stand the sound of the drill and need to zone out.
