This place is a joke. It’s very run down inside and smells like an old casino. The services didn’t start until 20 minutes after the appointment time with no explanation of the delay.
I had a gift certificate for «free» services but they charge a mandatory 20% tip based on the original value of the services. I watched the owner tell someone else the tip would be $ 6, the poor girl handed her a $ 5 and the owner demanded the full $ 6, which then had to be run as credit because she didn’t have an extra dollar. That alone makes me never want to come back.
On top of that the heated tweezer «electrolysis» they offer is a complete sham. It doesn’t work any better than regular tweezing (seriously, look it up).
If I could, I would take back the hours wasted inside this place and never ever come here.

Ahhhh! This old homeless looking lady scrubbed my face! I literally ran out of there before my pathetic excuser of a facial was over. Keep the $ 40… Your couldn’t pay me to go in there! People leave reviews for a reason… Read them!

I was stopped in the Fenton Pkwy Costco parking lot, and bought a gift card of four services (30 min microderm, haircut and color, 30 min facial, 30 min body wrap) all for $ 39.99. What I should have done is look up the rating on Unilocal first, but I didn’t. I figured whatever, I need a haircut anyway. I called and made an appointment for a cut the following week. I also made an inquiry as to why there are so many negative reviews, and was told a story about retaliating former employees who were drug dealers. Sounded a bit far fetched, but stranger things have happened.
The haircut was okay, it’s slightly better than Fantastic Sam’s, but much below some of the salons that I’ve been to. However, for this price I’ll take it. It looked okay when I was there, but after I got home I noticed that my hair’s uneven in the front, and the back had some hanging parts. I’m not sure if the back’s intentional, but I had told her that the front was uneven when I was still there. I thought she fixed it, I guess not. She doesn’t really know how to thin out hair very well either. I do have to say, my bangs look great. Like I said, I didn’t pay very much, so whatever. I won’t be going back though, especially if it’s for the full price of $ 45 per cut.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars, and I demand to know who «voted» this place «best day spa.» Hopefully my god awful experience can stop at least one person from going into this dump of a spa. I should’ve known what this experience was going to be like when I was approached by their marketers in a parking lot. New to town, I figured this must be a one-​time fabulous deal, but I was wrong.
I called the spa several times while I was with the guy trying to sell me the package, to make sure it was a real place, since he was selling 4 services for only $ 40. After he assured me that this was a one time thing and that they normally answer in a prompt fashion I agreed to purchase the package.
I tried to call and make an appointment for over a week! Once I finally got a hold of the place and older woman answered, «hello?» I asked if this was the world spa and she said, «yeah…» That should’ve been the second red flag. So I tell her about the package and that I want to make an appointment and she made one for me. After that she was so unbelievable and bluntly said «don’t forget your cash only gratuity.» I said «what?» In disbelief that she just said that, and she asked if I knew what «gratuity» meant, etc. she told me it was like $ 17.50 and I said I knew that I’d be expected to pay gratuity but after the service and based on the service I receive, but she said it was non-​negotiable.
About a week later I get to my 10AM appointment. I arrived 20 min early bc I didn’t know about parking and usually spas like you to arrive early to fill out new-​client paperwork. By time I reached the door it was 10 min early, it was all locked up and dark. I waited until 10 then called and told her I was there for my appointment and she said «we’re in the back doing the books, we’ll open in a few minutes.» I sarcastically said «should I just wait here on the street?» She replied with «yeah, it won’t be long.» I got the wrap and it was a bunch of crap!!! She basically took me in that gross room, rubbed warm water and dirt all over my stomach, then put what looked like dollar store Saran Wrap over me. It didn’t even cling to me, so the dirty water soaked all into my pants and then she had me pull my tank top over it and lay under a smelly blanket that I’ll bet hasn’t been washed in a year. She asked me to close my eyes and explained what the stuff was and she was coughing all over me. Then she walked out, left me there on that fire hazard of a hot table, and made personal calls right outside the room. All I could hear was yelling, coughing and wheezing. When she came back to get the stuff off me she smelled like she had been chain smoking for the last 45 minutes. Needless to say I didn’t trust her to color my hair, give me a microdermabrasion or anything else, so I never went back. Basically paid $ 57.50 for someone to be rude to me, soak my clothes in mud water, and listen to her complain to someone on the phone. DO NOT GO HERE. I’d go without before going here.

This place is a joke! Long story short I took my sister there and had a very bad experience! Seriously I felt I was being ripped off big time other then the worker was rude and unhelpful… I don’t recommend it guys!

I don’t get all the negative reviews on here… this place is fabulous! Totally relaxing and Victoria is great. I’ve recommended this to my friends and not one of them has had a complaint. So many of the reviews here on Unilocal are over 3 years old. Ignore them and try World Spa for yourself! I guarantee you’ll go back over and over again.

Long story short, I purchased a gift card here for a couples massage a while back (I hadn’t checked the reviews yet). A red flag should have been when I went to purchase the card, the guy asked me: «how much gratuity would you like to add to it?» I was like «umm… well I haven’t had the service yet, so I don’t know how much I will want to tip.» The guy was all annoyed like «oh, okay.»
Fast forward a couple years, I never got around to using the gift card and after seeing how poor everyone else’s experience has been, I don’t think I will. I really would like to get my money back because in CA gift cards never expire, but I honestly think that it is not worth the headache dealing with them!
I recently called them to sort of inquire about my options for returning the gift card (I still have it and the original sales receipt). No one answered, but I received a text message, from an unknown number claiming they are from World Spa and asking how they can assist me. This place is such a joke and they’re completely unprofessional.

I bought a $ 45 package for a facial, microdermabrasion, body wrap, and hair appointment. My first appointment consisted of the first three, the appointment was at 3, I had called an hour earlier to confirm the appointment and after no one picking up i gave up. I got the place around 2:30 and the door was locked. I called a few times and no one picked up. Finally I called again and a lady picked up and told me «they» were on lunch. I waited until 2:55 and went in. There was no front desk, no one to greet you, just a sign that tells you someone will be with you shortly. Finally and older lady came out and she informed me that I have to pay gratituity which is $ 17.50, for each treatment. I had been told when i bought the package that it was just a tip.
Next we went into a room made out of some sort of shed? There were two beds with blankets that looked as if theyd never been washed before. All the towels looked like overused rags. The facial consisted of a five minute scrub (something I do myself at home all the time), the body wrap was a weird liquid that was covered in saran wrap, and then the microdermabrasion lasted about another 5 minute, she then put a clay mask on my face and left the room for about 30 minutes. The entire appointment probably lasted 40 minutes. It was a rip off.
I had the hair appointment scheduled the next day which consisted of her washing my hair (which I can have done for free by my stylist) and trimming a centimeter from the very bottom of my hair in a straight line. I also walked in half an hour early where again no one greeted me for a good 20 minutes. I could do a better job than that. My hair was not blow dryed or anything, she didnt even put product in my hair. Then she tells me since my hair is long its an extra ten dollars in gratituity. $ 27.50 to have my hair washed with some cheap shampoo and conditioner?
DO NOT GO HERE IT IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY
It seemed to me as if no one went in there as there were no other clients, and Victoria seemed to be the only person there working.
She wore the same thing 2 days in a row, and in the middle of my facial she went to the bathroom to get some water. I heard the faucet turn on (assuming it was the water running into the bucket), then I heard the toilet flush, immediately after I hear the door open and next thing I know shes in the room with me without having had washed her hands after using the bathroom. I am so disgusted

Just plain awful. I regrettably bought 2 spa packages, one for me and one for my mom as a Christmas present and it turned out to be a complete scam. The $ 45 «spa package» included a facial, microdermabrasion, a body wrap and a haircut. I scheduled an appointment for the facial and microdermabrasion services and they were to be 30 min. each with a facial massage, and complimentary beverage but nope, no facial massage and not beverages. Both services were combined into one 30 min session and the amenities were disgusting. She had me put this robe on which was so dirty with gray dirt rings around the collar, it wasn’t even white anymore. The blankets on the table were gross and scratchy. At the end of the crappy services, I owed her $ 35 ($ 17.50 gratuity for each service). I will NOT be returning for the body wrap and haircut only to waste another $ 35 in gratuities. What a bunch of bullsh*t and waste of money. This place needs to be reported to the BBB and shut down immediately.

I am graduate student and I always looking for a deal and I found a deal for $ 45 for 4 services including a haircut, facial, body wrap, and microdermabrasion which I thought was a good deal at $ 11.75 per service. The sale representative told me there was a 15% gratuity but what he didn’t tell me was it was going to be $ 17.50 (I think this price is from the original service, but I’m sure where this number came from). I didn’t find out this piece of information out until bought the deal and made an appointment. So each service ends up being around 30 dollars per service, which is essentially 3 times more than the original price. Major false advertisement. However, when I went into get my haircut today there was no one else in the salon besides me and the hairstylist. She also added that I had to pay an extra $ 10 because I had long hair, which I thought was total BS. I got my hair shampooed and conditioned which is pretty standard and then got my hair cut. I told her that my main concern was getting my split ends cut off which she did try to accomplish, however, all the hair that was cut off my head probably could have fit in my palm. When I came home and inspected my hair, I still had a lot of split ends. –_​_​_​_​– For what I paid I was expecting more what I actually got. I guess what I am upset about is that I paid for I thought was a deal turned out to be expensive and mediocre service. I honestly could have taken my $ 40 else where and gotten a better haircut. I am not sure if I even want to go in for the other services because I dont want to be charged extra fees I was not even aware of.

What a horrible place!
I will be contacting state board of comotology and also living social to reimburse me for this dirty body wrap and facial I received… And to top it off… I was charged tax on a service. Let’s see what the franchise tax board has to say about that!

Although the lady I met seemed nice my KGB deal worth $ 200 for 1 hr facial and 1 hr body wrap seemed like a SCAM! The place for a full salon/​spa was empty. The mineral body wrap was worthless! she went through the motions of measuring some areas, applied cream mostly on my arms and hardly anywhere else then quickly wrapped me in saran wrap. This took apprx 5 mins. Took me to a room for my facial. Mind you I listen to two men chatting and laughing loudly next door the whole time Quick little scub on my face, applied a mask and she left the room. No steam, no massage on the face, chest, arms… nothing! came back removed mask, checked with a light put a light cream and I was done. WTH? It’s obvious The KGB deal is the only way anyone would ever go there. Save your time and gas! Go elsewhere!

I went here with a KGB deal for «Uplift the seven chakras with a Tibetan manicure + pedicure plus 30 minutes of reflexology for hands and feet at World Spa Resorts in University Heights ($ 106 value). Pay $ 23 and save 78%.» The mani/​pedi was ok, but I did not even get the 30 min of reflexology. The whole process took less than an hour, which I would NEVER pay $ 106 for! It was worth the $ 23, but I could have gone anywhere for a regular mani/​pedi of equal quality at that price.

I agree with previous reviewers; I came here with the $ 23 KGB Deal for «Tibetan manicure + pedicure plus 30 minutes of reflexology for hands and feet,» and it was a total scam. Since I just saw this deal come up again, I feel compelled to write a review.
My friend bought this deal with me, and we got a bad impression from the start when nobody was in sight to greet or serve us for a good 5 minutes. Appointments were made well in advance. Finally, we were given medical history forms to complete. The manicurist briefly scanned them, but didn’t ask questions or address anything on the form. Ok, maybe that’s coming later?
She led us to the nail station and started the manicures. Nail polish selections were extremely shoddy — not much color variety and mostly in unmarked bottles or cheap brands — strike #2. I picked one out for my toes, the two of us discussing toes the entire time, because we both intented to have our fingernails buffed. My friend got hers done, then the manicurist came to me and started applying a base coat. I’d never had a chance to say I wanted a buff, so I stopped her right away to clarify. She practically yelled at me for not telling her — but she never asked! That’s not nice. Strike #3.
When I examined my nails later, they were very poorly done, not shiny or uniform, with scratch marks in some places. Strike #4.
Next, we are led to the pedicure station. These are not the professional massage chairs I’m used to. They are crappy, stained white swivel chairs, and the foot bath is a plastic tub lined with a plastic bag. Luxurious this place is not. The manicurist left us again to come back with a gallon jug of water to fill the tubs, then sprinkled something exotic-​looking into the water (herbs?), never saying a word about what it was. The «reflexology» was your basic pedi mini-​massage, nothing special. And again, no mention of our «medical histories.» The pedicure itself was sloppy; I had to clean up the edges of my toes when I got home. Strike #5… oh what the heck, #10. Way too many strikes for this place.
Bottom line: this is a moderate-​quality mani-​pedi for the deal price. Unfortunately, we were so flustered by the whole experience that we tipped based on the full $ 100 price. It was a waste of money, but if I had paid the full $ 100, I would be absolutely livid. Please, go elsewhere.

Seriously the most awkward mani/​pedi I have EVER gotten in my life!
Minor complaints I can live with:
I had originally called in to make an appt for 4 of us who had each purchased a $ 23 mani/​pedi deal from kgbdeals. The lady had an attitude and said «this isn’t a professional nail salon» so she could only take 2 people at a time. Time-​wise was difficult to book as well as they close at 5pm and so the last appt they would take is 3:30pm. Should have known how this experience was going to turn out just from trying to book our deals… but we adjusted and 2 of us came for a 3:30 appointment. It was only one lady working on both of us so it ended up taking about 2 hours! The place was freezing cold and when I asked if she could turn the heater up, she gave me a blanket. My friend was literally getting a mani/​pedi with a coat on! At one point I had requested she not cut my cuticles and her response was «Oh, I don’t do that anyway.» Overall it was a very awkward, uncomfortable and unpleasant experience. Annoying, but not something I would take the time to write a formal complaint for.
But the kicker and major complaint I have:
She charged us both an additional $ 10.50 for «materials» and gave us a bag of the nail file, buffer and pedi toe separator things she had used on us. If I had known the complete total would have been the $ 23 + $ 10.50 there is NO way I would have purchased the deal. The fact that the customer service and overall experience was horrendous makes it even worse.
This is the 2^nd time a mani/​pedi deal I purchased through kgbdeals didn’t work out and it will definitely be the last. When I wrote in to complain to kgb they pretty much said «sorry, but take it up with the merchant to resolve your concern». What BS…

I wish I had never walked in this place. Got a quick and decent hair cut when I was killing time on a Sunday. All the nicer salons I had found on Unilocal the area were closed or booked. I happened upon this place without reading the reviews. Bummer, if I had, I would have kept walking.
During the haircut I was sold on the 3 services for $ 150 deal. I made an appointment for the next day. I have been working really hard and thought I would treat myself to a couple hours of pampering. I asked if I could use the spa before my massage and was told to come early to soak. However, when I did, I was told that the hot tub was broken.
So I was led into a dark room with little or no ambiance and a bare light bulb on a cheap fan above my head. I wasn’t offered a robe, a locker or even a hook for my bag. I did get a cup of water in a styrofoam cup.
I then got the most superficial facial ever. No steam, no facial massage, no luxurious facial products. Just a couple home made treatments made with a few cheap ingredients. 5 minutes of microderm abrasion with a machine that counted as one of three treatments. When I asked her to look at a couple of problem spots, she offered to «zap» them. This was basically burning them with a hot needle. It took less than 5 minutes and then I was told that it would cost another $ 50. I wasn’t going to cooperate with her scam so I just told her to forget the massage. which her previous client revealed was back only. no arms or legs.
So my whole «pampering» experience was over in 20 minutes. Cha Ching $ 150.
At least I asked to go into the steam room after. Which meant walking across the hall with a clear shot to the sidewalk in a skimpy towel (no robe). Plus changing in a bathroom that stunk of old garbage. the kind that women leave in the restroom when menstruating. Yuck.
The steam was the best part. But I wasn’t even given a bit of salt or soap to wash with in the shower.
Clearly, the owner is burnt out and broke. She had very little nurturing energy and no sense of generosity or desire to make her clients’ experience luxurious.
What a bummer. Don’t know why I bothered tipping. She did next to nothing.

Stay out of the spa!!! I wish I could give this ZERO stars. I went here previously for a massage and it was the worst spa experience of my life. No exaggeration. First, the service I received was not what I asked for. Second, the massage was supposed to be one hour and I probably had 15 minutes of hands on time. Here’s what went down.
I was taken to a back room and asked to lie on my back. The woman stuck my feet in some ridiculous wooden box called a ‘Chi Rocker’ (I thought for a moment she was going to go all Kathy Bates on me). The box shimmied from side to side for about 15 minutes, shaking my legs.
Then, the woman came back and gave me a 15 minute massage that lasted 15 minutes too long. I’ve never had anyone give a massage without ANY oil or lotion. Until this lady. She was just rubbing and twisting my skin, giving me a burn.
After, she put me in the ‘sauna’ with the nastiest cup of instant tea I’ve ever had. I should elaborate on the ‘sauna.’ It was a big wood box that you plug into the wall. It had two heaters like a toaster oven on either side of my face. I couldn’t tell if she was trying to fry my hair or singe my eyebrows.
Only go here if you are researching worst spa experiences ever. Otherwise, try a Massage Envy if you’re looking for something on the cheap. I love the one downtown on K street. For a true spa experience, check out Torrey Pines Lodge as I had a great experience there.

This place is in a sweet location and has the space to be something amazing, but it’s not.
It’s an odd mis-​mash of random furniture pieces, art work, and in need of a serious paint job.
However, THE 1 And ONLY reason I’ve gone here for the past 3 years and will continue to do so for a HAIRCUT from my boy Junior.
He’s a great stylist, easy to get along with and looks like a little gay mexican Buddha with his cute bald head.
Prices are really reasonable and he’s really flexible with time.
In the past I’ve gone there for a body wrap, facial, and pedicure and it was far from a Spa experience. It was actually uncomfortable and awkward.
For a haircut, highlights, or dye this is the place for anything else keep on walking :)

This is not an upscale downtown spa, but neither are the prices. Victoria has been doing my hair for two years and I like her no-​nonsense attitude. She is much faster than any hair dressers I have tried (it takes me one and a half hour to have my hair done here rather than 3 – 4 hours other places) and does a great job with both highlights and cut. ($ 130 last time)
Today I got a prenatal massage and it was great (also by Victoria). They have a table where your pregnant belly fits in and this enables you to lie on your stomach, something a 9 month pregnant woman is not normally able to do. Other places I have tried, they make you lie on your side which is NOT comfortable.
I am surprised to see the negative reviews, firstly this is a down-​to-​earth spa with prices that fit that kind of service, secondly I have never had any trouble getting an appointment that fit my schedule, in fact I have been able to reschedule last minute without any complaints from them.

Very odd place. You can tell the owner tried to create a relaxing and peaceful environment, but it doesn’t quite work. I received a certificate for 3 services for $ 150. Great deal, but not a great place. Very un-​spa like feeling and treatments were only so-​so.
I wouldn’t recommend it and now that my certificate has been used, I won’t go back. I’d rather pay the same price and go to the massage school across the street or in PB.
