Bean Island is dedicated to providing Organic or all natural products to our customers. The coffee we serve is The Bean Coffee Company beans that are rich in anti-​oxidents, organic, fresh roasted premium beans. The creamers are all organic. The cups we serve in are compostable and made out of recycled material and do not need a sleeve to insulate the cup, so you do not have to throw out additional paper as well.

We also have all natural Smoothies that have only 280 calories in a 16 ounce serving and come in incredible Mango or Strawberry flavors or a mixture of both. We have blended Coffee drinks that are all Natural that taste great and only have 220 calories in a 16 ounce serving. These come in Caramel, Vanilla, Mocha or Coffee Flavors.

We support local business like our bakers, who use natural ingredients for all of our tasty treats in our pastry case.

We can’t wait for you to come in and try our great drinks, eat our treats and meet our friendly staff.

History

Established in 2009.

Bean Island was established in conjunction with Island Earth farmers Market in the Metreon on May 15th 2009.

My business partner and I are from the bay area. Tracee’s family owns the roaster that has been roasting for 30 years. They have been private labeling for the Venetian and Bellagio hotels in Las Vegas as well as back east and southern California. I am a Chef and restaurant manager of 30 years and am having a great time in this new location. Please come by and say hi!

I first had this coffee in Main. This is the yummiest coffee ever! Smooth tasting, I even drink the dripped coffee! Normally I’m an espresso only fan.
Driving through SF, I know a stop here will reward me with a delicious coffee drink.

Soy Chai latte from Bean Island is way better than Starbucks’. I keep on coming back for the Soy Chai. They also have Almond Chai latte. I will try it next time. I wish they have more location in the city.

Bean island really is an island ! It’s so isolated … haha. Their hot chocolate is really good, much better than Starbucks. Their pink and white hot chocolate on their special menu isn’t that great though. Their chocolate covered espresso beans are way too sweet ! i’m glad they changed the Starbucks that was originally at this location into a Bean Island. Bean Island is much better and there’s too many Starbucks around anyways …

Bean Island serves one darn fine Pecan Chew!
Looking for a little something to sneak into the movies & have been completely missing Just Desserts since they’ve closed. Thought I would have to go in empty-​handed when I see Bean Island … in the spot where Starbucks used to be
Their case of cookies & treats looks pretty yummy so I opt for the Pecan Chew
Shortbready crust w/​lots of soft buttery Pecans & chewy Caramel — super tasty! The shortbread was quite crumbly & fell apart — otherwise this would have been a 5-​star treat
But just turn it upside-​down & you’ll be fine
In my overall ranking of Pecan Bars, Palio has the ultimate but this is a close second… and a yummiliscious treat to smuggle into your Metreon movie

My organic, small iced coffee was tasty (better than *$ but on par with Peets) and was medium sized. Tasty and large servings. Good chocolate cupcakes, although I noticed the small baggie of trail mix, in my opinion, overpriced at $ 3.

i made the mistake of ordering an americano since i was in the habit of this place being starbucks and i know starbucks can atleast not totally screw up espresso and hot water…
anyway, when i saw the drink selections, it dawned on me that i wasnt at at starbucks and i actually had a chance to enjoy a decent drink…
i think he was the owner cuz when i thought aloud that i should have ordered a chai latte … he said no problem… made a great chai latte that had something to a vanilla flavor to it… let me keep my americano and though i offered to pay, he said «no.its ok… enjoy you’re latte… we like our customers happy.»
thats impressive customer service nowadays… an extra plus… he acknowledged my 7yr old son and asked if him if he can make him anything.
would have given 5stars but i didnt find anything appealing to eat there to go with my morning drink… b ut i will definitely be back to see if anything grabs my eye next time… will post a review again for them soon

I wasn’t going to order coffee, but I had to get the «Vietnamese». It was the first time I noticed any coffee joint offering a hot caffeinated beverage named after my own «people»… I couldn’t resist.
I asked for 2 shots straight up. I didn’t want to wussify it by turning it into a latte. I couldn’t help but laugh when I noticed that it didn’t even fill up a ¼ of the coffee cup. I downed it, and was happy with the results. It was strong, and not too sweet. It was similar to the Café sua da I’d have at the Little Saigon bakeries… just not iced. The only downside is I paid $ 2.50 for 2 sips of good coffee. I wanted moooooore. If they offered the Vietnamese straight in a grande size… I’d upgrade the rating from 3 to 4 stars.

I was going to try this place the other day when I was in Yerba Buena Gardens for a concert. I asked to have my coffee put in a larger cup as I liked a lot of milk and the server (owner?) whined that she paid more for her organic milk than she did for coffee. Well, so what. I told her never mind about my order. If I can’t have my coffee the way I like it from your business, I’ll go elsewhere and I did. It’s too bad as I’m often in this area or sitting in the Gardens ready to enjoy a cup of coffee and I was hoping this would be a good replacement for the old Starbucks which never begrudged me the milk in my coffee.

Ah yes, Bean Island has replaced the underperforming Starbucks kiosk next to the underperforming Chronicle Books in the underperforming Metreon. I think the Metreon has a better shot as a haunted house attraction with the ghosts of economic delusion in evidence everywhere. But Bean Island has aspirations of attracting the healthy set with its organic coffee and treats.
Alas, the coffee is decent enough, but the organic donuts are disappointing to anyone hoping for a healthy and tasty donut (see my photo). No such thing. The little 75-​cent donuts have little taste at all despite the glazes and jimmies affixed to them. Dry as a bone with little hint of the oily sweetness that is the hallmark of a true donut. I guess it would have been too much to expect anything more.
COFFEE — 3 stars… OK for an organic blend
DONUTS — 2 stars… molded sawdust
AMBIANCE — 2 stars… it’s the Metreon, stupid
SERVICE — 3 stars… nice enough
TOTAL — 3 stars…“Smiles, everyone… smiles!”

This new local and organic coffee place is still new and working out little kinks so I’ll be sure to come back when they’re up and running at 100% This coffee place will replace the Starbucks in the Metreon and it’s kind of nice to see something else besides the coffee giant in a place that’s got so much foot traffic due to the movies up above.
The coffee and milk AND whipped cream here is organic which is something I can appreciate but what I do love about this place and what makes me want to just squeal with delight is the owner.
I was looking for coffee because in my mind coffee and fro yo have to go hand in hand so after a disappointing experience at Penguino’s, I went on the hunt for coffee and found this delightful kiosk. Unfortunately, they were not fully up and running but they were happy to explain about their offerings and helpful benefits. Not only is the milk and whipped cream organic but other products they sell apparently have oodles of anti-​oxidants too.
I asked if the milk was organic AND hormone free since the sister has a problem with the hormones in the milk as has an obvious unappealing affect on her skin. The owner whips out a list from his vendor and actually takes the time to double check if the Clover Organic is also hormone free. *sniff sniff* I found myself speechless and touched at the same time. He even went to check with someone else who was helping him set up. That’s some real hospitality there.
Today, the day of the real grand opening, I’m happy to see they’re offering FREE COFFEE! Hurray for free organic coffee and milk.
