Established in 1986.

Cantrell, Harris & Associates was founded in 1986, and has established itself by managing real estate for professional partnerships, a variety of Bay Area condominium and Homeowners Associations, Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, 1st Interstate, Bank of America, Bay View Federal Bank, Ocwen Loan Servicing, and Bank of the West. Just to name a few.

Mr. Harris and Mr. Cantrell bring extensive experience to the partnership. They are both active members of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM). Mr. Harris served as the National President, and Mr. Cantrell served as the Regional Vice President.

Mr. Cantrell is currently a faculty member frequently teaching a number of courses offered by IREM. Mr. Cantrell has specialized in the turnarund of properties with deferred maintenance and mismanagement, and establishing hands-​on management programs that maximized the potential of the investment.

James H. Cantrell, CPM has in excess of 35 years of asset management experience and specializes in the turnaround of properties with deferred maintenance and mismanagement. For both private and institutional investors, Mr. Cantrell has managed a variety of product types, including rent-​controlled multi-​family, high-​rise offices, industrial/​warehouse properties, retail and large hotels. He has established hands-​on management programs that have maximized the values of the carious investments.

Mr. Cantrell is the Presidet of Cantrell, Harris & Associates, a San Francisco-​based Real Estate Consulting Firm that was formed by Ron Harris 40 years ago, and Mr. Cantrell joined as a partner 24 years ago.

Mr. Cantrell is a Certified Property Manager (CPM) and is an active member of the Faculty of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), teaching courses worldwide. He has received numerous awards for his work, and participated in many professional activities around the World.

I am really surprised these guys have such a low rating. I’ve lived at one of their properties for a year now and they’ve been just fine. When we first moved in, two of our closet doors wouldn’t close all the way. They fixed it within days. We had a roof leak, they sent guys out. Finally, our bathtub wasn’t draining properly, and again they were on top of it. So far, I gotta say, these guys have a 100% response rate. After having lived in places where I had to deal with the shady owners themselves, having professionals manage the building makes a big difference.

Its like pulling teeth to get work with these people. I hope you don’t have anything wrong with your building or unit because they are completely inept at the most simple request. we have had broken windows, broken oven, and broken faucet in this unit for over 2 years and they refuse to fix them after many attempts to have them fixed. The people that work for them have so much attitude and are so surly, whats the problem folks?

I just recently moved from a building managed by the firm because I moved out of state. As a former property manager I can tell you this company and it’s staff are first rate. They are considerate, helpful and professional and really know this business. My experience with them was top notch.

I’m not sure what all the hype is about here. A building management company can only be as good as the building owners, and Cantrell Harris was always responsive to our inquiries. Not to mention they always went the extra mile to make the place feel like a community you were living in, rather than some nameless, faceless high-​rise, i.e. Christmas parties where they shared wines from their own collection, updates on neighborhood happenings, deals with local vendors, etc.
All I can say is that while we were living at 1700 California St., and they were the building managers, all repairs were taken care of promptly and all requests were addressed with courtesy.
At one point, after having been in the building for 8 years, we asked if we could have the apartment painted. They met with us and we discussed how difficult it would be since we had a lot of furniture, etc., but they really tried to work with us. They told us they would contact the building owner and see if we could reach some kind of an agreement on signing a new lease (we were on a month to month after all of that time), and that perhaps they could move our furniture room by room to paint while we were out of town — they were willing to work with us, more than I can say for the building owners.
Well after that meeting, the building owners got greedy. They decided they did not like have a building full of loyal tenants who had been there for years, they did not want to paint, or address the water coming in behind the shower tiles, they did not want to pay to have a holiday party. They changed management companies and guess what? Rents went up ASTRONOMICALLY, no more building enhancements, no Holiday party to meet your neighbors, all gone with Cantrell Harris.
So say what you will about your ONE problem dealing with them; this is a management company who cared for their tenants and tried to make sure people got value for the high prices they are paying in rent.
Needless to say, once the building changed from Cantrell Harris, many of the nice things about the building changed too. Thankfully the owner was smart enough to at least hire the very fine staff Cantrell had handpicked for them, and they are the only reason we stayed as long as we did.

We had Cantrell Harris as our property managers for almost 2 years. I thought they did a pretty good job and were supportive in most of the building’s needs. I worked with Sara every week and together we made deadlines for tasks, and followed up at the next meeting. I think she bent over backwards to be proactive on issues. Most negative reviews are from people who bicker about ONE thing going wrong and they can’t get over it. I try to base my review on the whole picture. No, not everything was perfect. But it was primarily positive, and the company gave a genuine effort to ensure things were done professionally. I would totally do business with them again.

crooks, complete and utter crooks. I was in the market for a condo and they listed one up on MLS. It was a REO that looked attractive. I called them every single day since the first day it got listed to try to get someone to show it to me. they constantly said the listing agent was not available, whether i called at 9am, 1pm or 3pm every single day. and then i get a call today, saying sorry for not replying to you earlier, but we’ve sold the property. not one single open house and not one returned phone call or email to let us pick up the keys and see it. talk about conflict of interest. listing agent clearly got kickbacks. corrupt people, avoid at all costs.

They manage the HOA for my condo. They don’t return emails and can rarely be reached by phone. I have been trying to get 2 extra keys and a garage remote from them for almost a month. Sara actually emails me that the keys are ready. I get there and there is no garage remote. «that will take longer». Wish I knew;wasted a trip. Turns out she did the keys wrong anyway, deleted my old keys causing me to get locked out. These people simply don’t care about doing a quality job. Not surprised every review is only one star.

Whatever you do, do not work with these people! Initially they seem to be helpful, but are actually useless and basically thieves. We rented an apartment which they manage and our rep, Dave, constantly «forgot» to call us back and never actually came through with anything he promised. We broke our lease to be free of them and can’t be happier to not have to deal with these shysters ever again!

Do not rent from Cantrell, Harris and Associates managed properties. Plain and simple. I moved out of a unit in Oakland about one month ago and the law states a deposit refund must be issued within 21 days of move out. They didn’t send the refund, and after polite pursuit of my refund, I finally had to get mean. I was getting ready to take them to court when they finally coughed up the refund.
They admitted that my security deposit was not in the account it had been deposited into when I gave it to them over a year ago. This is illegal. They tried to brush me off numerous times and failed to deliver the check when promised (which was already well overdue).
I am sure the owners of their properties would not be pleased if they knew Cantrell, Harris was mis-​handling their funds as well as their tenants trust.
While the apartment was nice and nearly new, I wouldn’t rent the Taj Mahal from a business with such careless, indifferent and unscrupulous practices.
One thing you should know about retention of deposit; if they hold it over 21 days they cannot deduct one penny for damages or clean up. I spent $ 200 to clean to carpet before moving out just to insure my refund. Obviously it didn’t matter. The move out inspection, the manager was going to deduct for normal wear and tear such as nail holes from pictures and some scuffs to paint INSIDE a closet! Well, they can eat it because they failed on the refund period.
So again, stay away from Cantrell, Harris and Associates.

These people tout themselves as property managers, realtors and real estate consultants, basically saying they can weave straw into gold, phooey, they can’t even accomplish a name and phone number change on a frickin intercom system for three weeks since we moved in!
They even want to charge the owner of the apt $ 50) for basic prop mgmt stuff (they are paid to manage the entire 30 unit buidling)
It is a 30 second procedure

(during biz hrs) and the woman I spoke to (forgot her name, but it was
not the answering svc) said it would be done immediately
It still has not been done
This is a 30 second procedure (we had the same procedure at the last
building we lived at and it was done on the day we moved in).
Why has this not been done and where is the breakdown?
If someone is out on vacation, then have someone else do it
Who do we need to speak to get this accomplished?, or where it the
machine? and I will do it
Please provide and ETA for this
