He told me I needed 10 fillings replaced. I found another highly reviewed Dentist who said they would replace one and check the condition of the tooth unerneath. It was fine and I will never go back to Dr. Hill. I have never posted a negative post before now.

I’ve been going to Dr. Hill for four years and he is one of the best (if not the best) dentist I have ever had. Back story: I have had many many many dentists, and have spent a fair share of time in a «doctor’s office of some sort» for teeth shit. My life long relationship with dentists, oral surgeons and orthodontists started when my baby teeth didn’t fall out and the adult teeth grew in behind the baby teeth or horizontally into the gums (towards my tongue). I had extractions for the baby teeth and bizarre oral surgery (by Dr. Hirt, I shit you not) to dig with lasers into my gums to find the horizontal tooth and then attach a gold chain to it to slowly maneuver it up to a vertical position, then a Schwartz appliance, then braces, wisdom teeth removed, a root canal, gum graft surgery in my 20’s, composite fillings at the root line to protect where my gums were, then my first cavity!!!, then the root canal tooth extracted, and a few more cavities. So, I am coming from a place of knowing dentists, and being pretty comfortable in a dentist’s chair. You might think I brushed my teeth with Pop Rocks, and gargled with Pepsi – but I did not. I have always been obsessed with dental hygiene — brushing, flossing, and swishing, on a very consistent basis. I was even the annoying girl in the office bathroom brushing my teeth at lunch. Why I had so many issues in my mouth is just unfair and proves that God does not exist. (But that’s another story.)
I know for a fact Dr. Hill is also equally loved by people who are squeamish at the dentist, and I know a patient who used to get panic attacks before his cleanings. Let the office know this and they will address your concerns.
I find the office to be professional with a highly personal boutique-​y feel. You will see Jeanette, Tommy and Dr. Hill every time you visit. They remember you and take the time to get to know you as a person and as a patient. Tommy taught me the proper way to brush my teeth (Hint: you do NOT scrub them with the elbow grease needed to scour a dirty lasagna pan with a steal wool pad. See gum graft surgery above.)
During my tenure, I have had my teeth cleaned, examined and have had cavities either filled or old ones replaced and have been highly satisfied after each visit loving my shiny clean beautiful plaque free teeth.
During my last visit, Dr. Hill replaced a composite filling that was at my gum line on the front of the tooth. After he was done I could not even SEE the filling. He matched the color and sculpted the filling to have no line that my tongue could feel so perfectly I was amazed. I felt like I got a cosmetic procedure to make my mouth more beautiful. I could not stop staring at it. (Or more accurately, trying to see it.)
Do not delay; Dr. Hill should be your dentist.

I was new to SF when I first discovered Dr Hill, using in fact Unilocal reviews as the only reference. This is a calm and timely office, bolstered by a meticulous dentist who makes it easy to feel good about your experience. I use Unilocal all the time for new discoveries. A year after this one, I want to be sure to add to the many positive reviews of Dr Hill’s practice.

Dr. Hill does a great job taking an interest in his patients and making everyone feel comfortable. Jeanette up front couldn’t be nicer. My girl friend referred me here, and I’m glad I listened to her! I tried a few other spots in the city had no luck until I visited Dr. Hill.

I should review my dentist on Unilocal?Really? That seems so personal. Also he is a lone dentist in a little office. If I write about him, he will know just what I thought. What about the next time I go in there? What if he has got me back in the chair with my mouth wide open and lots of metal tools and cotton packing inside? What if he said,

If you had complaints I wish that you had shared them with me before the rest of San Francisco. Maybe I could have satisfied your concerns. Perhaps you would have been interested to know that I had to go slowly with the Cavitron because — despite what you wrote on the questionnaire you gave to my assistant — you clearly had not visited a dentist in a long time. There were massive build-​ups of tarter and plaque. I felt like I needed a jack hammer back there to get the stuff loose…”

“Don’t try to talk. Of course it is a bit frustrating that only one side of the story gets told. I mean I really think that it would be fairer if I could have pointed out that you didn’t even try to open wide. I felt like I was peering into a coke bottle. How was I supposed to move quickly? And what about turning toward me? I had to ask you a dozen times and each time you went through the motions and in a minute or two you’d have forgotten and your nose would be in straight line up to the ceiling. That frankly makes it very hard to get to the back teeth.”

First of all, I HATE THE DENTIST!
Jeanette at the front is so sweet and makes you feel so relaxed when you first walk in. Dr. Hill is so nice and great at what he does!
He makes you feel very calm and wants you to know each step in the process of what you’re having done!
I still don’t look forward to going to the dentist, but he makes it a bit easier to stomach, that’s for sure!

BEST dentist I have ever been to.
Dr. Hill takes the time to get to know you and does a very thorough exam. He is very friendly and extremely informative.
The hygienist is also very knowledgeable and does an excellent job cleaning the teeth.
Jeanette, at the front desk, is very friendly and super helpful.

Professional, on time, has early morning appointments (which is hard to find!), they are all super nice and know what they are doing, for a dentist– the experience could not be much better!

I’ve been going to Dr. Hill for over 3 years and he’s by far the best dentist I’ve ever had. I get my regular 6-​month cleanings done here and I’ve had some work done a few times as well. He’s got a gentle touch and a very steady hand. He also has all the latest gadgets. He does excellent work and the convenient location of his office is a huge plus for me too. Highly recommended.

Dr. Hill is a wonderful dentist, way better than any I have gone to before. What makes him and his staff so special?
Dr. Hill was very thorough with my exam, and he used a small camera to show me my teeth and describe the problem areas he found in layman’s terms. It actually inspired me to floss regularly for the first time in my life! He took the time to explain an easy proper brushing technique (which seems obvious, but surprisingly I realized that I had never been given a step-​by-​step on how to brush.)
I ended up needing a few fillings, and though I can’t promise Disneyland, for getting a filling it was remarkably stress-​free. For the first time EVER, I ended up falling asleep while getting a dental procedure done! The extra touches helped, like piped-​in classical music and a warm blanket (knitted by Dr. Hill’s mother!) to keep me warm while in the chair. Nice.
Jeanette at the front counter was so helpful and friendly… the whole experience felt a bit like walking into the bar on that TV show ‘Cheers’… after only a single visit, everybody knows your name.

Highly skilled dentist, outstanding staff, compassionate, honest and a rreal nice guy to boot. If ever «going to the dentist» could be categorized as a great & enjoyable experience, then going to Dr. Hill for dental work or Tommy the hygenist for a cleaning, would be it.
Their procedures are comfortable and efficient, and communication is always clear, honest and sincere. I visit regularly for cleanings and checkups. Whenever I need to have any work done, I am always clearly informed as to what’s involved, given available options, and cost breakdowns.

I hate going to the dentist, so I just don’t go, ‘cos I don’t have any cavities or dental problems & frankly don’t need any extra pain in my membranes.
That said, peer pressure and a general responsibility to my own health finally had me filing into Dr. Hill’s office one morning for a much belated checkup.
Dr. Hill & his team are the most meticulous that I’ve ever seen! I was thoroughly impressed by their 45-​ish point detailing of every part of my mouth/​throat & its status, screening for oral cancer and most helpful in answering all my questions.
I still hated the «cleaning» so I won’t talk about that, suffice to say that we need to eat our proverbial vegetables ‘cos they’re good for you, ditto for getting regular cleaning.

Going to the dentist is never something I enjoy, but Dr. Hill has really impressed me. I gave him a try because he was so well reviewed on Unilocal.I’ve been to see him now for a cleaning and a filling. Both he and his hygienist, Tommy, are great about explaining what they are doing, so you feel included in the process. Even more importantly, they are both very thorough, but gentle, when working. The piece de resistance is that Dr. Hill is the only dentist that has ever been able to numb me up with a single shot of novocaine. He’s a complete dental ninja.

Dr. Hill and his staff are the best. I’ve been going their every three months for a cleaning for years and years. I’ve a half a dozen ‘emergencies (by my definition) and they’ve always found a way to fit me in and get things fixed ASAP. I have had Dr Hill do caps and a bridge. I am currently in the midst of getting an implant after conferring with Dr. Hill during one of my emergencies (which turned out to be a cracked tooth.) Dr. Hill gave insight into all the alternatives — do nothing, pull the tooth, add a bridge, do the implant and the financial impacts associated with each.
These folks are the best. My wife and kids go to him as well. Dr Hill and his staff deserve MORE than just 5 stars!

first, in the interest of full disclosure, you should know that i grew up in orlando, and while living there, went to a star trek dentist. (these are the sorts of things people do in places like orlando.) but yes, by that i mean, full on. the place was a museum of action figures, the hygienists wore the whole getup, they had tvs in the ceiling where you could watch the wrath of khan to keep your mind off the drill, and at the end of the whole thing dr. b would walk you to the front, give you the little sign, and go, live long and prosper. mind you, i’ve never even seen star trek. but i couldn’t get enough of it.
why am i telling you all this. (that is probably a really good question.) i guess it’s to try to explain my low threshold for normal dental type operations. i don’t really like going to the dentist; i always think it’s going to hurt, even when it doesn’t, and i always think i’m going to need six root canals, even though i don’t really know what they are. anyway, here in SF i labored over finding a dentist, and dr. hill was recommended to me emphatically by several friends. is he nice, i’d ask them. yes, he’s awesome, they’d say, just go. but i mean, really, i’d say; i’m looking for a dentist for people who don’t like dentists. well, he doesn’t play movies in the ceiling, they’d say, if that’s what you’re wondering. touché. well, i guess everyone has to compromise somewhere.
all that said, i did (and do) go to dr. hill, and he is awesome, just as my friends said, and so is everyone in the office. they’re friendly, patient, gentle people who are really good at what they do. i would even go as far as to say he is a dentist for people who don’t like dentists, although as a dentist i don’t know how much he’d appreciate that sort of praise.
and while on some level i’d still probably prefer to be distracted like a child with tvs in the ceiling, the classical music he plays makes me feel much more adult. which, now that i’m in my thirties, i suppose is okay.

I found Dr. Hill when I contacted him in desperate need of a root canal. On a Friday afternoon, via email. He wrote back saying that his office would be open at 7:45 Monday morning, and gave me his home number in case I couldn’t manage over the weekend.
All my experiences at Dr. Hill’s office reflect that level of compassion and professionalism. I think Dr. Hill is the only dentist I’ve ever had who is so relaxing I actually doze off while he’s working sometimes. My jaw locks almost every time I have dental work done, and he was the first dentist who actually showed me what was happening and taught me how to unlock my jaw by myself. His staff is friendly, competent, and his office runs on time, every time!

Dr. Hill cleans your teeth to a shiny white with a smile. He and the staff are amazingly nice and welcoming. If you’re looking for a good dentist, Dr. Hill’s your man with the drill.
