I have never really liked my hair. I’m half Irish– the hair half. It won’t exactly curl, it just frizzes out. I swear I’m seven feet tall when the humidity is just right.
On top of that, I’ve been a competitive swimmer (chlorine plus hair equals «icky»), and I also am guilty of dyeing my hair, often, out of a box (don’t judge me. Well, okay, only a little).
I called Dax and Lindsay when they happened to be out of town. How do I know this? They told me. No BS. They were out of town on vacation, and they STILL took my call– rock star status!
This was all in the thick of holiday season!
They booked me like the very next day for a consultation! They were amazing!
Okay, the fun part:
1) My hair was crummy, but they were SO sweet about it– they told me they’d seen a hundred times worse. They checked it out, they said they could do a keratin treatment for me and gave me the very next booking they had open. They even tried to squeeze me in same-​day! (I told them not to worry, I knew they’d just gotten back from vacation).
2) Day of my treatment– you guys, I am such a dick– I was like ten minutes late! I felt so bad– I called them beforehand and told them I’d be running behind, but still, that’s awful to do to wonderful people. You know what, they were SUPER laid-​back about it! No worries about my being late, no weird eye-​ball looks! Just a warm welcome and a comfy chair!
3) The hair treatment was SO gentle. I didn’t feel anything, except that soothing «someone is doing my hair for me mmmmmmmmmm» feeling. And although I’d never met Dax or Lindsay before, I felt like I was just chatting with my awesome stylish way-​cooler-​than-​me-​friends-​from-​way-​back.
4) Dax and Lindsay are SO stylish, both in dark tones with a vintage twist, she’s like a pin-​up model’s wish-​come-​true with a smart bob and big excited beautiful eyes, and Dax is just the kindest most open-​hearted soul. They are equally adept at listening to my crazy pre-​wedding obsessing, and sharing their story with me. Working with them was SO fun, that I would have been totally fine if my hair looked crazy-​terrible afterward.
BUT:
5) MY HAIR LOOKS FREAKIN’ FANTASTIC. My hair has NEVER been Shiny! But NOW it is! They of course ironed it out, but that just goes to show HOW much healthier my hair is now! It’s not frizzy, is’s sleek– I feel like a model! My poor cell phone almost overheated with selfies. My hair looks better, feels softer, and it really fun to touch. Lindsay encouraged me to pet it, which I do now obsessively.
This hair treatment requires SOME upkeep though! I had read about it beforehand, so I knew what was up. I recommend highly that you read their webpage before you go visit them.
No elastics, no hair clips, no getting my hair wet for 72 hours, no steam, don’t expose it to salt water or hair shampoo with salt– salt strips their treatment out.
I am DEFINITELY going to see them again– the more times you do the keratin treatment, they better it layers onto itself.

I’ve been going to Dax & Lindsay for years. I first met them when they worked at Patrick Evan Salon, and I experienced complete panic when I called for an appointment one day and was told they were no longer there. So I did the only thing I could and tracked them down! They truly care about their customers and deliver the very best results. They are the only ones to see for thermal reconditioning.
Bonus: They make sitting in a chair for hours with goop on your head FUN!

Dax and Lindsay are awesome! I was impressed with them from my first visit for a strand test. My hair did not «pass» the initial test, nor did it pass the 2^nd one a few months later. Which during those times, Dax and Lindsay provided me great recommendations to get my hair healthy enough for the thermal reconditioning. (There are so many stylists that won’t test your hair, and the benefit of having it tested is to make sure that the treatment will last!)
Well, 3^rd time is a charm and my hair passed. I have thick and heavy hair and they were able to recondition my hair in 2 ½ hours. It’s so smooth and soft!
If you’re hair does not pass — it’s is a bummer — trust me. But it’s worth to stay the course and follow their recommendations! Dax and Lindsay do great work, are fun to talk with and just good people!

these two are amazing. just had a consult. super nice, knowledgeable, easy to talk to. we spent 30m on the phone discussing options prior to the consult, then another 30m doing the in-​person consult, and they ended up recommending i see another stylist for a different type of treatment. they easily could have said «ya lets do it,» but chose to inform me of the pros and cons and have me get a second opinion to make sure i got the best result possible. that kind of integrity is rare these days. i dont know how these two exist in today’s world of money-​focused salons, but im so glad they do. if you have been thinking about thermal recon. but have doubts, go see them now before theyre so busy you wont get an appt for a year.

I found out about Lindsay and Dax on Unilocal while I was in Australia and was impressed by their high ratings.
I decided to go in to see them since I wanted an honest opinion on whether or not I could get my hair straightened since it is half colored and half virgin hair.
They were fantastic and did a strand test which showed my hair wouldn’t cope.
I love that they didn’t just wing it and take my money only to leave me with chemically fried hair.

I was looking to do a Japanese hair straightening and I found them on Unilocal so I went to do the strand test and it passed.
I have a very thin shoulder length hair and I had already done a keratin straightening before (in a different place) which didn’t show great results.
I was nervous before coming to the appointment but after 5 minutes there I felt that I came to the right place. Both Dax and Lindsey are great people and are very professional. I felt comfortable with them and I was sure I was in the right hands. The time was just flying and after 3 hours (which felt like 20 minutes), I was done.
The result is great and I love my hair again. I really recommend you to go see them, you’ll be happy too!

I have been getting thermal reconditioning with Dax and Lindsay since 2010. Too bad they do such a good job that I don’t need to go more often!
In addition to being all around awesome people, they are the BEST at what they do and do it with integrity. Every time there is even a small change to my hair (new color, interval keratin treatment), they always want to do a strand test to make sure that my hair will respond well to the thermal treatment. Unlike other hair stylists, they won’t just take your money and do a bad job. I know that I can always count on them to make sure that my hair is perfect every time. Dax and Lindsey are fantastic. I have 3B-​3C long hair and have been in hair limbo since my stylist of 25 years retired. We who have Afro-​textured, natural hair have a difficult time finding someone to do our hair in San Francisco. I’ve been in need of a keratin for two years but couldn’t find a stylist I would trust for this service — was about to give up and head for the East Bay when I heard about Dax and Lindsay. They have 5 stars for a reason! They ask lots of questions before sitting you on the chair. They really care about treating your hair right and giving you what you want out of the service. After 2 years of getting my curls ripped and tugged by people who didn’t know how to handle it, I’m so grateful to have found them. My keratin was perfect and Dax and Lindsay are really nice and great conversationalists, which you appreciate for a 3 hour service (mine takes this long because I have a lot of hair). Why would you trust the permanent straightening of your hair to a «regular» salon stylist who does a few of those a week when you can go to Dax and Lindsay who specialize in and ONLY do straightening? They are true professionals who are incredibly experienced and have very high standards for themselves. In fact, the first time I went to them they did a strand test and told me that while they would love to have my business, they believed that I needed to use a strengthening shampoo and conditioner for a few months to get my hair ready because I have done some damage with my flat iron at home — that’s right, they care so much about their craft and their reputation that they will turn you away if your hair isn’t ready or right for that treatment. I did as they recommended and had beautiful results, and have been back multiple times.
On top of all of this, they are really nice people to hang out with for the multiple hours it takes to get your hair straightened! Don’t go to anyone else — Dax and Lindsay are the best in SF.

Dax and Lindsay are lifesavers. I’ve been thermal-​straightening my hair elsewhere for ten years, but recently noticed my hair didn’t look or feel as healthy as it had in the past. When I went to see Dax and Lindsay, they ran a strand test and told me my hair seemed very stressed, with what looked like damage from a previous straightening. They suggested I come back in three months.
I failed the second strand test, and by this point I was ready to give up and try out the keratin treatment instead. They convinced me to wait a little while longer, so I did, and on the third try I finally passed the strand test. They did a beautiful job, and my hair feels like itself again. They’re so conscientious – I’d trust them with my hair any day.

I have struggled with my confused hair for most of my life. As a child it was cute ringlets, but as I hit puberty it became an obnoxious mix of curls, waves and frizz. I would spend forever trying to get it to be straight or to make the curl cooperate, only to be frustrated by rain or humidity.
I had heard of Keratin treatments and did my research. I wasn’t going to go to just anyone offering a cheap price. I’m vain about my hair. Its color treated and long and I baby it. I wasn’t going to take a chance of going to a spot where the cheap would come up expensive.
I consulted with Lindsay and Dax back in 2010 to have the Keratin treatment done on my hair. My request was that I didn’t want it completely stick straight. Some days I wanted to work with my curl, but have those curls be manageable.
Well, I went to the right people because Dax and Lindsay are so thorough and personable that they will make sitting in their chair for a couple of hours feel like hanging out at your friends place.
I have never seen a couple have a more symbiotic relationship. They just vibe off each other and the time passes in a flash as they perform the service.
Keratin treatments are not cheap, and they shouldn’t be. Believe me though, it is 100% worth the investment. The amount of time that I save getting ready daily after having this treatment is sizable. I’d estimate I knocked an hour off my prep time after a shower by not having to struggle with my blow dries.
Really though, after the first time I had it done, I aimed the blow drier at my bangs and when they fell perfectly flat and in place… I actually teared up. No lie. I almost cried from freakin hair joy!!!
I have been back to continue the treatments after they eventually wear off, but since they last 5 – 6 months, I only need to see them twice a year.

I recently moved to SF from NYC, which means I’ve had to leave behind a lot of my favorites. In quite a few areas, SF has fallen short — gel manicures, food delivery at all hours of the day & night. However, in hair straightening, NYC has met its match.
I met with Dax and Lindsay for a consultation. They performed a strand test, and told me what to expect and what they could guarantee. My hair has already been straightened before (4 times), so I knew what to expect, and Dax and Lindsay go above and beyond. They told me the new hair could be straightened, but not all of my hair. I was impressed by their professionalism. They actually rescheduled my appointment as it was going to rain, that huge storm that we had back in December (rain is really bad for freshly straightened hair).
My hair is long and very thick. Having two people work on my hair at once made the whole experience both feel and be quicker. It also seemed quick because they are interesting and fun to talk too.
Dax and Lindsay over delivered. My hair looks amazing. I also was impressed by how they offer a touch up service with in two weeks if some strands do not take.
Fabulous job! I will definately be coming back for my next straightening in about 8 months to a year.

Alittle hair history on me: My whole life I had rediculously thick, brittle, wavy (in a not good way) hair. When I first learned about using a flat iron, I would spend an hour straightening it, only to hit the wrong wave of air outside and have it frizz out and thicken up.
A few years ago, my beautician suggested I get a Brazilian blow out from one of her coworkers. After two treatments, my beautician noticed my hair was breaking and quietly suggested I find someone else to get the Brazilian blow outs from.
After doing some research, I found out about Dax and Lindsay. I called them up to make an appointment. That’s when they told me that I needed to come in for a «strand test» to make sure A Brazilian blow out was right for my hair type. I did go get the test, and based on the results they recommended a «Keratin» treatment instead. They explained the science behind both treatments and their recommendations. I felt I found two very caring experts.
After my first treatment from Dax and Lindsay and since then, my life has changed for the better. Having straight, healthy, easily managed hair is my daily reality now. I can wash my hair and blow dry it in minutes, and it stays looking great. I went from problem hair to hair I love and is a great investment in me. In addition to my hair happiness, Dax and Lindsay are a great couple who work on you in partnership and get along great. I have learned so much from them from great insight on healthy eating to having interesting conversation about human behavior. They are great at what they do and great company while they do it.

Dax and Lindsay are the BEST! I cannot say enough about these two. They really are the best when it comes to keratin treatments. I’ve been going to them for well over a year and my hair has come out beautifully every time. They are super friendly and professional and give you the best advice to yield the best results. I’m a mother of twins so styling my curly crazy hair daily is not an option. I’ve now been getting straightening treatments from Dax and Lindsay since summer of 2010… the Extended use of the treatment has actually made my spongy, frizzy hair BETTER, softer, straighter in general. I went in for a thermal reconditioning/​japanese straightening on friday. After enduring the no wash or wet weekend, i showered monday morning and did something i have never done in my professional life: left the house with wet hair! And my hair dried to silky straight perfection! I am probably getting weird looks at work because i cannot stop touching my hair! Haha
The main reason i went with dax and lindsay was the strand test. I have been thinking about the procedure the last 6 months or so, and after doing plenty of research, knew that this procedure uses chemicals that are no joke. I didn’t want to take any chances, and the strand test gave me that piece of mind that helped confirm that this was the right time and the right people to trust my hair with.
