Glenn Gustafik – Allen Fu Hair Studio

After almost 4 years of bouncing from salon to salon without finding a compelling service worth returning for, I was finally introduced to Glenn through a good friend of mine, and I’ll never have to go looking again. He immediately put me at ease, worked with me to find the right style that perfectly balances style with daily effort. I trust him implicitly with my hair – he’s a master of his craft, and it shows in both the process (he makes it seem so effortless) and the end result. Never has my hair been commented on so much! Give him a whirl, and you’ll never want to go to anyone else.

Glenn works hair miracles. I’ve been seeing him for over a year now and I wouldn’t let anyone else touch my hair. I’m a male with think curly black hair. Glenn knows exactly how to tame it. I told him I wanted to grow it out long and he was able to tactfully remove weight without sacrificing the length. He knew how to cut it to accommodate months worth of growth. More recently, I decided to go a bit shorter and he helped me figure out what I wanted and I couldn’t be happier. Glenn listens to you and quickly knows what you want better than you even do. I’ve recommended him to all my friends and everyone has been amazed. Go see Glenn, you won’t regret it.

Growing out an undercut is hard. I’ve tried multiple times, and every time I get the shaved section to a few inches and I get fed up and shave it off again. After a close friend recommended Glenn (and I met him myself), I decided to enlist the help of a professional, and holy sh*t did Glenn deliver. He’s been guiding me through the process, making sure I look polished instead of scruffy. Even though I’m technically at the awkward stage of growing the undercut out, he makes my hair look awesome. He knows what my hair is like and how it falls and cuts it accordingly (so that styling is a breeze). Hairdressers like this are rare, and I should know – I’ve been to a lot.
NOTE: Glenn knows I prefer to color my hair at home myself (for financial reasons) and gives me great advice on what products to use instead of pushing me to let him do it. As soon as I’m in the financial position to pay him for color, I’m going to get him to work some magic on me. I can’t wait.

I love Glenn! I did an ombré with him, and he really went extra miles to get my hair to be how I wanted it to be. Given that I have black hair, it was no easy feat. I’m not letting anyone else touch my hair again!

I wish I had known Glenn in Seattle! I got introduced to him through a mutual friend once moving to SF and he has been my stylist since!
I give Glenn full control when I see him because I trust him and he is that good! I typically get a balayage ombré. He is by far the best colorist I’ve ever had! I have Asian (Korean) hair so it can be tricky coloring my hair. He has even done a reverse ombré on me and let’s just say I called it my lucky hair color.
He goes above and beyond with service. He makes me feel very comfortable and at home. My hair always looks so healthy and smells so good when he’s done. If only I could afford to have him do my hair everyday!
Glenn also remembers that I flip my hair back and forth a lot and takes that into account when coloring and cutting my hair. He has given me great advice on care and products. He will even send me photos on what he wants to do with my hair even when I don’t have an appointment!

Okay — I found Glenn through a strange route; I was looking for someone who could work with a certain kind of hair extensions and in SF. As it turns out, I also got the best cut and color from him! He is not only really talented, but a kind and upbeat person who listens and contributes. he doesn’t rush, genuinely cares, and my hair has looked great (for my hair) since he worked his magic.

Hands down, Glenn is a great hair stylist. He listens to what you want and is so patient, detail-​oriented, and super sweet! I asked him to give me extra layers and movement, and since I have such thick hair, he really took his time taking off extra weight from my head. I also learned from Glenn that my frequent headaches/​neck pains were because of my hair length. Glenn really takes care of you, and he goes about a interesting way of dry-​cutting before shampoo/​conditioning. You’ll be in great hands with Glenn, and have tons of fun getting to know him. Genuinely a really sweet and down-​to-​earth guy, and I will be coming to see him soon at my next appointment! :)

Glenn is an amazing stylist! I was referred to him by a good friend of mine who has been getting his hair done with Glenn for years and I was not disappointed. He went above and beyond! He gave me a very cute style (which he then taught me how to maintain) and was able to match my natural hair tone while giving it subtle highlights. When he was done with me, my hair looked so shiny and super healthy. I live in Los Angeles but will definitely be making the trip to see Glenn again. Totally worth it. Glenn has been my barber for a few years and he has always done great work. He’s very efficient and attentive to provided instructions. In all the time I’ve been coming here I have explained to him how I’d like my cut done precisely one time and it has always been correct. That said, he is also flexible and creative. I’ve seen a fair amount of his work for others and they’ve all looked excellent. The couple times I thought I’d try something different he had something for me right off the top of his head that worked.
Beyond having skills, he’s always good to BS with about local food and drink and knows his way around a lot of SF’s hidden gems. I’ve always found him to be personable, but not falsely so. Genuinely a good guy.

Glenn is awesome :) When I broke my leg about a year ago, I had my former stylist chop (whom I adore, but is now too far away to visit) all of my hair off in anticipation of nearly 3 months of mandatory bedrest. While I love short styles, once I was back at work, I knew I wanted to grow it out a bit more. I went to a couple of different stylists, and each time, they ended up chopping it even shorter, which only made it harder to grow out.
By this point, I had a lovely Julie Andrews pixie cut, but I needed someone to listen to what I had to do — growing a pixie cut is no small task. I found Glenn on style seat, and when I visited him for the first time, I was honest about my desire to grow my hair out. He listened to me, and proceeded to cut it in such a such a way that it could grow out well over a longer period of time, while still looking amazing. We discussed a cutting schedule that, thank goodness, was well spaced out, with semi-​regular trims supplementing full cuts. He didn’t request I come in too often, so my hair is actually getting time to grow.
Additionally, he listened to my feedback that I a) don’t style my hair every day because I lack patience for it and b) I enjoy having my natural wave come out. His cuts are SUPER low maintenance, requiring just a bit of surf spray after a shower and a tiny bit of pomade after it dries. For a haircut that is growing out, it is insanely manageable for someone like me who needs an absolute no-​drama style.
Three cuts later, I’m on my way to longer hair. It’s the type of cut I can shampoo less often, using dry shampoo throughout the week to refresh. I get compliments all the time (as in, strangers say things,) and I can trust the cut will look awesome no matter what I do.
Also, Glenn is funny as hell and a joy to see on a regular basis. I have a great time in his chair and look forward to my appointments with him.

Glenn is the best! I’ve been going to him for over a year now and can’t say enough good things about my experience. I love when a hair stylist can take your ideas and offer up different recommendations allowing their true art to shine. Having dark hair is a challenge that takes someone with unique abilities to really create new color transformations, especially without damaging your hair. Always leave the salon feeling fabulous!

I am giving him a three star rating, based on the prior history of giving me generally good cuts and colors. If I was basing my rating on my most recent experience, it would be a one-​star rating for the bad cut and unprofessional behavior.
I was a client of Glenn’s for the past couple of years, and have had mixed feelings about the services I received. The cuts were generally very good, the colors were a bit hit or miss, but mostly fine. He does have a good knack for reds, which can be hard to find in a stylist. My main issue with his services is that he didn’t always listen to what I asked for and often did what he wanted to do. He is a skilled enough stylist that most of the time this worked out fine, but other times I ended up with something I didn’t really want. I also had a problem with my colors not lasting more than a couple of weeks. I brought this issue up repeatedly, but the problem was never really resolved. I ended up having to go in every 4 – 5 weeks to have the color completely redone, which definitely got pricey.
I recently had a color and cut done, and was unhappy with the way he cut it. It had shorter layers at the crown and on the sides of my head, which was not something we discussed doing. I have a hard time styling short layers because my hair tends to get wavy and frizzy if there is any moisture in the air. Plus, the shorter layers didn’t blend well with the rest of the cut. He scheduled me for a re-​cut and a hair treatment. I let him know what I disliked about the cut and specifically asked to not have any additional short layers cut into the sides. He told me he could blend the layers a bit, without removing much of the length. He ended up cutting more choppy, short (mid-​ear length) layers into the sides and taking some length off the rest of the cut. When I saw how short and choppy the side layers were, I knew I was going to have a terrible time styling it. It was bad enough that I got upset and burst into tears (I haven’t cried about a bad haircut since I got a horrible perm the month before I started high school). I told him that he did exactly what I asked him NOT to do and that it was a cut that I was not going to be able to style at all. Instead of apologizing, he started arguing with me about what I had asked him for, why he cut it that way, insisting that it wasn’t a bad cut. I told him this just made the problem I came to get fixed even worse and he told me to take my things and go. I have never had a stylist take dissatisfaction as personally as he did. If my services made a client burst into tears, I would apologize and try to make amends, maybe comp the cut and offer to help them figure out how to work with the cut I gave them. Not get defensive and lash out at a client who was already upset.
I’ve now got a cut that will take at least couple months to grow to where I can style it again. In the meantime, I’m investing in hair clips and fancy bobby pins to try and hide the parts of the cut I don’t like. And I am looking for a new stylist.
Editing this to add that I have gotten exactly zero compliments on this haircut. The best I’m getting so far is «well, its not THAT bad!» and «oh, you got your hair cut. It looks, um… shorter.» And the color faded by about 60% within the first week.

Glenn did a beautiful purple ombré style for me (Photos added here.) and was a pleasure to hang out with for the several hours it took. I’ll be back.

After discovering Glenn through his Living Social coupons, I came to him on Friday for a cut and ombré coloring. My hair was heavy and shapeless and I was ready for a fun change – I’m SO glad I came to Glenn for it. After three hours in the chair, I left with a bouncey lob (long bob) and summery balayage. Not only is he an incredibly talented hairdresser but also a genuine, funny and sweet guy. The three hours flew by because of how much fun I had listening to his stories about hair, San Francisco and everything in between. During my appointment I told him about my current apartment search and he even went as far to send me the information for an apartment for rent he passed by on his way home that night. I could not have been happier with the entire experience. I’ll definitely be going back to him for all my hair needs and suggest that everyone who is reading this does the same. Thanks again, Glenn!

Glenn was a recommendation from one of my boyfriends clients that lives in San Francisco, I needed a trim and was told about Glenn. I was only in San Fran for 3 days and he just so happened to have an opening on one of the days. :)
From the minute I met Glenn we got to know each other and he did exactly what I wanted with my hair, just trim the ends and make it look less ratty. Lol
I didn’t have a hair cut for about 6 months before that. Glenn did a fantastic job cutting my hair and I’ll definitely be back next time I travel to San Fran.
When he was finished trimming my hair he washed it and styled it for me. I love what he did and cannot wait to go back.

Glenn has been my hairdresser for the last two years. He is true artist and a real professional. I’d definitely recommend Glenn. Hands down!

Glenn has been my hairdresser for a couple of years now and every time he does my hair I always leave feeling satisfied. I wanted a mohawk, he gave me a killer mohawk! I wanted extensions for my wedding he gave me lovely long locks for my wedding. When I showed up late for my wedding day appointment because of an unforeseen situation, he was so understanding and worked it out. I like Glenn for his professionalism and friendship! Thank you!

Glenn has dyed, cut and styled my hair for the last 2 years. I have always been pleased with his final product. Before each cut or process we talk about what can be done with my crazy think full nest. He is super close to Bart and his new spot on Sutter is much nicer than his old location. The new local offers kinda Hollywood lights with great big windows.

I finally got my hair cut! Glenn did an amazing job, as usual. I used to see him in Seattle, years ago. Since I moved to San Francisco, I figured I should resume all hair related appointments with him.
Glenn really listens to what you want, and takes his time to make sure you are happy with your haircut. I will be booking a color appointment next!
