History

Established in 2007.

Didgeridog opened our doors for guests in April of 2007. Proprietors Calla and LauRose Felicity have more than 30 years of experience in handling, training, and loving small dogs. Didgeridog is a special in-​our-​home place where small dogs can safely and joyfully stay when their people need to be away from them. Larger commercial establishments are available. Our place differs greatly from them. We offer a home-​away-​from-​home environment for small dogs whose owners want a family home where dogs «visit» in the loving care of professional human friends. Clients were waiting before the doors opened, and stay with us as their doggies grow up and grow older.

Business Owner

Doggie Mama Calla and Doggie Tia LauRose offer our clients a lifetime of practical and professional dog know-​how. Calla began working professionally in the «dog fancy» in her late 20s: grooming, training, caregiving and showing various toy, non-​sporting, and terrier breeds for other dog professionals, in AKC conformation and obedience trials. She also trained and showed her own small dogs. LauRose retired from a lifetime of public service to take part in our home biz. Our combined lifetimes of experience teach that inside each small dog, no matter how timid or ferocious at first, is a loveable and loving pet-companion.We cherish every didgeridog’s unique style and personality. As doggies learn and practice good manners, each achieves doggie success — they learn to come out and play! In continuing, long-​time commitment to dog rescue, we also offer rescue/​respite/​foster care to one small dog at a time, for various Bay Area 501c3 rescue organizations.

Calla is wonderful and cares about the well being of your animal! She goes above and beyond. My dog has stayed about 15 nights in total at Didgeridog and every time I drop him he doesn’t seem stressed. Today Calla gave me a call because she’s concerned my dog’s health has declined since the last time he’s been in. She took a lot of care and time to describe what she’s observed and why she’s concerned. She confirmed issues I have known about and have been working on with our vet with no diagnosis. She even followed by email with links for me to check out. She’s wonderful. It’s really hard when dogs get old and I really appreciate the level of customer service of her and her staff to make my older and more difficult dog comfortable. I only wish I had found her earlier on, I am so grateful! Thank you Calla and the staff at Didgeridog! Oh and one other thing. During the holidays, I unexpectedly received a picture/​ornament of my dog in the mail from Didgeridog during the holidays. I really love it and it just goes to show that they remember and celebrate all the dogs that stay there.

Calla and her team are definitely #1 in my book. My little Montana has been going to Didgeridog for about 6 months and we recently had her boarded there for 3 weeks (ack!!!) this summer. I can’t explain the peace of mind I feel knowing that she is in their care. She always comes home from PlayCare happy and exhausted from all the fun she’s had.
Last month was the first time we were away from her for that long and I wouldn’t have trusted her to anyone else but Didgeridog. Trust me, my dog is a handful for most people, but they understand her temperament and actually appreciate her being there. I’m happy to know that she is just as loved there as she is in my own home! I have all the confidence that I need if I’m away from her for a week, or if she just needs to spend a day with a bunch of other pups and get some exercise, that she is well taken care of. You can’t go wrong here. I swear she was even more obedient when we got her home :)

It just doesn’t get any better than this! Sometimes, we go to UCSF, but we always take our dog with us. Didgeridoo is also a B&B, so we stay in one of their beautiful rooms. When we leave for my appointments, Calla, LauRose and their wonderful staff watch our Daisie, a sweet beagle mix. She plays with the other dogs, is well cared for, and given a lot of love and attention. If you are taking a vacation or just need doggie care, this is the place to go. Calla and LauRose are great hosts. They see to every need, and the accommodations are perfect! Comfy bed, beautiful bath, and food in the guests’ kitchen. TV, heater and phone in both rooms. Good people, good people, good people, with great big hearts and a welcoming home, whether canine or human! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I first met Calla when she was fostering one of my dogs, then continued to use her for boarding. We lived in San Francisco then, now live in Mountain View, but still take my girls only to Calla in SF because 1.) they love her and 2.) I trust her.
Her knowledge of dog behavior is exceptional, as is her patience with them.
I know my fur-​kids always get the best care staying with her.

I have been taking my Jack Russell to Calla’s for daycare and boarding for several years, and she and her team at Didgeridog are wonderful. They truly understand dogs and really care for your dog while he or she is with them. Their service is very professional and 100% reliable, just make sure you book well in advance if you plan on boarding over a holiday weekend.
Calla really worked with my dog to get him used to interacting with other dogs, and after about a week of going to her for daycare he was wagging his tail at the door eager to go in and see his friends. They are by far the best daycare and boarding I have found for my dog in the bay area.

As a owner of several small dogs. I can;t tell you how much I love this place. My little ones are always excited to come here, when it is a long trip or a weekend getaway. I have used Calla several times and I am quite happy dealing with her and her staff. I know that the staff give the best care, and she will even extend their stay if I asked for some extra days. So if you need someone to take care of you dogs call her.

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review yet!
I was a cat only fur parent, I rescued homeless cats and trapped-​neutered-​returned feral cats, worked as a cat advocate for years. After a brief break from rescue (needed to get a career going) I found out that one of my friends’ friends was on the board at Family Dog, and he said that they needed foster families. I took in a pup, with no idea what to do with him, and learned very quickly what did and didn’t work.
Four fosters later, my little Tito refused to leave. I knew it would be tough for him with me at work up to eleven hours a day, so I sought daycare. I was told at another SF daycare that Tito was «special needs» because he wouldn’t like to meet them in our house. They refused to even consider him because he barks when people come to the apartment.
Lucky for me my neighbor, Bruce Jones, is a long time client of Didgeridog and his mom gave me the contact info. I was so happy to find any daycare for him, but Calla, Laurose and all the Didgeridog folks have been so wonderful with my tiny little snausage dog! He is loved and supported and has become a better man for having been a part of the family there.

I have been taking my pup «Otis» to Didgeridog for quite some time now. I work 12 hour shifts, 3x a week and he spends those nights with Calla and her wonderful crew. I often get called out past my 12 hour shifts and simply text Calla that I won’t be home at my normal time; she is always accommodating and makes sure that Otis is well cared for while I’m away. I have also left Otis when I’ve gone out of town for longer periods of time, and always feel that he is well cared for. I never worry about Otis when I leave him with Calla and her crew.
Everything at Didgeridog is «puppy proof», the pups are well fed, and Otis has made lots of friends – he comes home exhausted from playing. I also have to thank Didgeridog for all of the things they have taught Otis – I owe his good manners to the consistency and skill of the entire business. The employees always have a smile on their faces and are happy to see us. Calla occasionally comes out to greet me and has wonderful suggestions for me, as Otis is my first puppy.
What I really appreciate is that Didgeridog mimics what I do at home. They frequently check in with me and make sure that they are doing the same things, using the same phrases and implementing the same practices that I am with Otis. The prices are so reasonable, it’s unbelievable! Otis is truly a much better behaved and enjoyable dog thanks to Didgeridog. I highly recommend them and am so thankful to have found them. It’s so wonderful to leave your puppy with someone that you know loves him just as much as you do!

We’ve been taking our dog to the wonderful folks at Didgeridog for over a year now, and it just keeps getting better! Calla and her staff are amazing — they’ve done an incredible job taking care of my anxious little dog, who just hates being left alone. She’s even become a bit of a diva when staying there — she claims certain people as her own, and isn’t shy about asking for hugs and rubs.
I tend to travel a bit for both work and pleasure, and rest much easier knowing that Brownie has a home away from home when she can’t be with me. Their prices are very fair, and recently, when I had to go out of town for a family medical emergency, Calla took my dog on short notice and even gave me a «family emergency» discount! It just doesn’t get any better than this!

My coworker friend recommended Didgeridog as I needed a place to board my dog on short notice. My little guy has boarded with Calla twice since. This is now his second home away from home and I know that he is in good hands when he is here!
The first time I visited the facilities, Calla showed us around, we met some of the staff and she took the time to answered all our questions. The home has a nice size deck and backyard that provides great sunshine plus lots of comfy doggy beds around so the dogs are not cooped up. There are fences and gating throughout the property so that the dogs can’t escape. Someone is onsite 24/​7, which made me feel better that my dog won’t get into too much trouble or get lonely. The place is run like a school/​day care where parents drop off the kid and pick up in a waiting area. The dogs follow a routine where they eat at the same time, have outside time, playtime and rest time. Each dog even has their own little cubbyhole to hold their leash and other belongings, very cute!
Overall Calla provided great service and the prices are very reasonable. Calla doesn’t nickle and dime you and actually offer additional discounts for things like referrals or longer stays. If you are a worried pet parent like me, you can also text her to get updates on how your little one is doing, she is pretty responsive.
I’d like to think that my little guy misses me when I am away. But hmm, I’m not so sure that he notices I am gone since he is being well taken care of and having such a great time here!

Calla and her SF State interns do an awesome, consistent job every time we bring our 3 dogs for daycare or overnight boarding. It’s great to have dogcare only for dogs less than 25 lbs. Easy parking, good rates, thoughtful, knowledgeable care. We can now vacation without «Cerberus» and know our dogs are in good hands and we’re not paying as much in dogcare as for our hotel!

Boyfriend and I had to go out of town and we needed to put our little 7 month old mutt somewhere. From all the amazing reviews, we decided to check out Didgeridog. We are soo glad that we did!
When we first went to meet with Calla, she gave us a tour of her place and was just amazingly nice and knowledgable. She definitely loves dogs and is totally great with them!
Our pup stayed with her for about 4 days but was supposed to stay for 5. We ended up coming back early and missed her so much, we texted Calla to see if we could pick her up early. Calla obliged and we were on our way to get our little mutt. I just can’t say anything bad about this company and Calla. She even offered to give us a refund since we wanted our pooch early.
We hope to bring back our pup but we are worried she may become bigger than 30 lbs. :(Hopefully she won’t grow too much because we love Didgeridog!

It’s been two years now with Didgeridog. Jubilee (my Puggle) and I could not be any happier. I used to take her to daycare twice a week– but now I have her there four times a week.
I just read one of the reviews, the one with the two stars. And I’m sorry– I just don’t believe it. There’s absolutely no way that could have happened at Didgeridog. Calla would never had allowed any of that to happen. She always keeps the dog owners updated with any small changes or what not.
Going back to Jubilee: After these two years, she is still so darn excited to wait outside of Didgeridog’s door. The moment that door is opened, she totally forgets about me and jumps right on in. She loves this place so much.

I wanted to like Didgeridog. With all the positive reviews, I really did want to like this place. The owner, Calla, seemed so nice, and the description of the facility sounded amazing. However, we will not be bringing our dogs back here. Brought my dogs here without any preexisting conditions affecting the dogs, and got them back with problems. 1 dog had herniated/​inflamed discs, and the other had an eye infection (which was treated with FishMox aka Amoxicillan for Fish) & battle scars instead of being taken to the vet. After having the walk thru (oddly enough, the day after their stay), I was given the impression that my dog that experienced back issues was dropped to the ground from a height he isn’t accustomed to (since he’s short, and small) after being carried. Typically dogs with long bodies and short legs should be lowered gently to the ground to avoid back problems. I was also given the impression that my other dog with the battle scars was bullied by the other dogs that were being cared for, as I noticed they tend to form a pack, and harass people as well as the more timid dogs.
Sadly Didgeridog only gets 2 stars from me.
+1 star for giving my dogs a roof over their heads while we were away.
+1 star for giving them a warm place to sleep while we were away.
–1 star for giving my dog FishMox instead of going to the vet

Calla and her team work wonders with my barkie Sharkie, a min pin. While my puppy may not be the most well behaved, they actually take the time to understand him, and are able to work with him and help him become a better pup. After I pick Sharkie up from playtime every Tuesday and Thursday, he falls asleep immediately.
They truly care for your dogs. If you have a small dog who needs some extra playtime, this spot is definitely for you!

I just wanna say I LOVE CALLA! MY DOG LOVES CALLA! Calla is so loving and so gentle with all the dogs that stay there, that I was completely impressed with my first visit to check out her place. My dog Alfie has now stayed there for long visits 2 times, and he getting ready for his 3rd visit in a couple of weeks. When I pick him up, he is always happy and tired from playing with his pals.
Above all else… I TRUST CALLA! And that is just huge!

If I could give Calla 6 stars, I would.
I am one of those «crazy dog people» that treats her animals like children. Before Calla, I had never considered a doggie daycare of any sort, mainly because of trust issues. Who wants to give their kids to strangers? Well, after getting to know Calla a little bit, it was obvious that she cares deeply for animals.
On the day after Christmas 2009, I adopted a 4 year old (?) chihuahua from Rocket Dog Rescue and was having a hard time trying to adjust my existing dog to the new little one. There was quite a bit of mayhem in the beginning and the lady who runs the rescue group told me to call Calla (who was great with small dogs) for some advice. Calla does a lot of work with Rocket Dog and was glad to help. She talked me through some training techniques and helped me understand why my new little girl was acting crazy like she was. She sat on the phone with me probably for an hour the first time! An hour! Calla ended up having several phone conversations with me about my little girl and even offered free daycare to help her get better socialized.
Calla invited me (without dogs) to come over, check her place out and talk. I did that and saw that she has a great house with doggie romper room and a big backyard. The dogs have the run of the house (while being supervised) and are free to sun themselves on the porch on one of the many dog beds or stay inside and lounge. I (of course) did end up taking advantage of one to two daycare days per week for a few months and my little (monster) girl showed such improvement. I mean, she’s still a little crazy but I know that it’s her personality now, which is sometimes something only a dog-​mother can love (ha-​ha).
I have since had Calla and team take care of both dogs when I am away for business trips and most recently a 2.5 week vacation. The dogs come back each time happy and healthy and probably looking forward to their next doggie vacation there. The dogs just love Calla and her daughters and I couldn’t be happier to have a wonderful, homey place for them to stay while I am away. They even sleep in one of Calla’s daughter’s beds from what I hear! How spoiled… I love it!
I highly recommend Calla to anyone who wants their little dog to be in great hands for either daycare or overnights. If you are someone who is hesitant about allowing a stranger to watch your babies, no need to be worried here. Calla will treat your dog as her own!

Calla has been very open with Bella and I. I thought that the usual feeding routine for Bella would be a lot of trouble for Didgeridog, but it definitely wasn’t. Her feedings consist of boiled chicken, powdered supplement and ¼ cup of dry food. Which is usually fed at 12 and then 6 pm. Previously I only supplied them with ¼ cup dry food, but Calla insisted that I bring in what Bella normally eats.
Now Bella is coming home full and happy. They are open very convenient hours, and I can always count on them when I can’t be there to watch my daughter. Thanks Didgeridog team :)

This is the only day care I will take my dogs to ~ I haven’t boarded them here yet, but I definitely intend to the next time I go out of town. I cannot say enough GREAT things about Calla and the Didgeridog family.
I tried taking my babies (two 18-​month-​old beagles) to a regular (ie, big, warehouse-​style, impersonal, with untrained staff) day care, and they HATED it, so I gave up on the day care idea. Fortunately, I decided to revisit the it and thought — there MUST be an in-​home day care place somewhere in the city. There is, and it’s the best ever!
It is an understatement to say that my dogs are high maintenance, so I was worried even once I found Didgeridog, that they wouldn’t accept my little terrors. After reading the reviews here of others who sound like they have similar problems, I was re-​assured and after talking with and meeting Calla I knew she would take amazing care of my babies.
I had my sentiments confirmed when I took the dogs their for the first time. They are … reticent when meeting new people, and my boy dog even growled at her at first. Calla was not put off at all and handled it in a way that was firm, yet without being mean or scary.
The first couple times we took them there, they were a little hesitant but after the first week they were as sold as I was. Now, they get all excited when we turn down Calla’s street, and when I drop them off, I might as well not even exist, they’re sooooo psyched to be there. This in and of itself speaks VOLUMES about their experience while they’re there.
And the best part? Worn out puppies for TWO DAYS after, and for only a total of $ 35 for two dogs for twelve hours! You absolutely cannot beat that!
(extra-​special awesomeness: we thought our boy beagle had giardia, so I called Calla to tell her we wouldn’t be bringing him in that day, and taking him to the vet to get medication. She said if we were relatively certain it was giardia and didn’t want to pay for the vet and the meds, she had the SAME medication our vet would give us, but as an over-​the-​counter treatment called Fish Zole. I researched it and sure enough, it can treat giardia in animals and even humans ~ and if it turns out NOT to be giardia, it doesn’t do any harm! She gave us a bottle for $ 9, told us what type of special diet to feed him, and his sickness cleared up in a few days, saving us HUNDREDS of dollars! Seriously — CANNOT say enough good things about this place!)
