Doc On The Run

He is well qualified but is completely uninvested into the patient’s (mine) health. Was very unresponsive and did not respond back my follow up calls and emails. His visit felt more like he was just counting the time until he can charge me and leave to a next patient.
I’ve seen several people complaining about same issue and I wish I would listen to these Unilocalers before choosing this doctor.

What a find! He arrived within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. He was very personable and easy to talk to. He was very thorough. He took his time explaining what was happening. Everything about the doctor and his visit inspired confidence. If you need a podiatrist, he’s your man. I had toenail fungus treatment, but I would contact this doctor for any podiatry problems I may have in the future.

Dr. Segler was a lifesaver for my 88 year old Mom who needed care for her toenail that she ripped out of her bed & was bleeding all over the place. Since she was so frail there was no way she could go to the doctors office.
I called & got back to me in a timely manner. He came out and took care of the wound & trimmed her nails as well. It took no time at all. He said he could call anytime if there’s a problem, gave me aftercare instructions & that was it! Would highly recommend him if you need him in an urgent situation!

I would give Dr. Chris 10 stars if possible. He returned my call promptly and saw me the following day. His accurate diagnosis and treatment plan has worked wonders for my sprained ligament in one week. Getting this expert help so fast saved me from a dislocated toe which would require surgery. Dr. Chris created some customized pads & taping which have really relieved the pain and got me on the road to full activities. Dr. Segler is knowledgable, caring, listening, insightful — and humble and patient with my own ignorance as he embodies care for my health. He is a living reminder that this is possible here, and that courageous leaders like Dr. Segler exist, despite the systemic problems in this country’s corrupt power structures. Excellent experience. Reviews are accurate. Home visit within a week of initial call with a very amiable and knowledgeable Dr. Segler. I wish I had more feet problems! It is amazing such a service exists without an extraordinary surcharge.

I had my first appointment with Dr Segler (at the recommendation of SF Tri Club peeps) last week and wanted to share my very positive experience. First of all, house calls?! I was having an issue with my foot and need to have it evaluated and make a game-​time decision on an upcoming race. Most doctors make you wait days or weeks for an appointment, which would have been too late in this case. Dr Segler came to my office less than 2 hours from when I called him! This was worth going out of network for me, the one downside for me. Further, I really appreciated his advice and his style, particularly related to athletes. As an athlete and Ironman himself, he gave very candid and reasonable advice on the pros and cons of racing with an injury and when he thinks it is worth it vs not. I also really appreciated his perspective on managing longer term injuries, etc. Highly recommend, particularly for athletes.

I wish there were more Doctors like Dr Segler who did house calls. When he came to my home– on a Sunday– he was very warm & personable. He took time to listen & explain things clearly. Highly recommend!
**For anyone who gets the laser toenail treatment, you need to be very vigilant about how you care for your feet after the treatment to prevent getting reinfected! Do not expect to get the laser done and continue doing all the stuff you did that caused the infection or IT WILL COME BACK! Take the doctor’s recommdations– purchase the steri shoe & use it, buy the spray, change your socks, etc

It sounds like Dr. Segler is a great doctor, based on his other reviews, which is why I called him. But if you have a difficult-​to-​treat condition:
PREPARE TO WASTE A BUNCH OF TIME BEING IGNORED AND GIVEN THE RUNAROUND BY DR. SEGLER.
That’s what I felt happened to me. Here are the details (highlights in all caps):
I CALLED DR. SEGLER.
He picked up the phone. I told him I had received laser treatment from another doctor for toenail fungus, and the treatment failed. Dr. Segler explained that the laser he uses is significantly more powerful than the laser my previous doctor used. He also said that in the years he’s been using the laser, he’s had only three patients require re-​treatment. I told him I wanted to schedule an appointment. He said I should email him a photo of the toenail.
HE SAID HE’D CALL ME BACK LATER THAT DAY.
I emailed him the photo five minutes after we hung up the phone.
THEN I WAITED THREE DAYS. HE NEVER CALLED.
Instead, three days later after our initial contact, he emailed me: «Based on our conversation it sounds like you are already under the care and treatment of your condition with another physician. I recommend you continue to seek the advice and direction of your current treating physician.»
I EMAILED BACK:
«I was under the care and treatment of my condition with another physician, but I am no longer [sic] that physician. I would like to be treated by you. Could you please give me a call, so we can discuss?»
THEN I WAITED TEN DAYS. HE NEVER REPLIED.
SO I CALLED AGAIN, AND LEFT HIM A FRIENDLY VOICEMAIL:
I said I supposed he was busy or didn’t receive my email, but as I wrote, I am no longer under the care of a physician, so could he please call me back to discuss?
THEN I WAITED ELEVEN DAYS. HE NEVER REPLIED.
During that time, the fungus spread to a second toenail.
SO I LEFT HIM ANOTHER FRIENDLY VOICEMAIL:
I said I wanted to schedule an appointment, and asked him to please call me back.
HE CALLED ME BACK LATER THAT DAY.
I told him my fungus was getting worse, and I’d really like to schedule an appointment with him.
HE SAID HE’D CHECK HIS SCHEDULE AND CALL ME BACK.
I WAITED 24 HOURS. HE NEVER CALLED ME BACK.
SO I SUBMITTED AN APPOINTMENT REQUEST ON HIS WEBSITE.
AN HOUR LATER, HE CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT REQUEST, AND EMAILED ME BACK:
«We have received your online request for an appointment. However recalling our previous conversation, you had been treated by another physician for this condition. I recommend that you follow up with that physician for treatment.»
I found his email to be rather odd, because I had explained both in a prior email and a prior voicemail that I was no longer under the care of another physician.
AN HOUR LATER, I EMAILED BACK:
«Yes, I had been treated for this condition by another doctor. However, I did follow up with that doctor, about a year ago, and there was nothing else he could offer me. I haven’t been treated for my condition since. I would really like to be treated by you, because you explained to me that you use a different type of laser than that doctor, because I was impressed by your Unilocal reviews and explanation of your laser’s effectiveness on the phone, and because I followed up with that doctor, to no avail. Therefore, could we please keep the appointment I requested for Thursday at 9? I feel desperate for your help.»
I then saw on his website that the appointment that I had requested was no longer available, and there was only one appointment left that was eligible for a discount, so:
I THEN SUBMITTED AN ONLINE APPOINTMENT REQUEST FOR A DIFFERENT TIME.
THE NEXT MORNING, HE CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT REQUEST, WITHOUT EXPLANATION.
I IMMEDIATELY EMAILED HIM:
«I notice that you cancelled my appointment request for this Friday. Could you please tell me why?»
HE HASN’T REPLIED.
WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?
WHY WOULD SUCH AN EXCELLENT-​SEEMING DOCTOR IGNORE MULTIPLE MESSAGES AND REFUSE TO SEE ME?
Is it because he doesn’t want to interfere with another doctor’s treatment? Maybe that was his initial reason, but since I explained multiple times that I’m no longer being treated by another doctor, and that that doctor had nothing else to offer, that can’t be the final explanation.
HERE’S MY GUESS AS TO WHY DR. SEGLER TREATED ME THIS WAY:
Since the first laser treatment failed, I’m guessing he was concerned that his laser treatment might fail, and I might write a negative Unilocal review as a result. In my second-​to-​last email, I told him that I understood that lasers aren’t 100% effective, and I wouldn’t write a negative review if it failed, but by that point, he seemed to have already written me off. Ironically, I wouldn’t have written a negative review, had he just been direct and responsive with me upfront, instead of giving me the runaround. I still want to be treated by him, due to his stellar track record, but unfortunately, he seems to be more concerned with maintaining his track record, than helping a patient in need.

I am living in Italy and consulted Dr. Segler because the 3 orthopedists I have seen here have not been able to resolve my issue.
Before my call ($ 185 skype), I sent Dr. Segler copies of my MRI and X-​ray data-​discs and he went through them, taking screen shots for me. We scheduled a 1 hour session and we went overtime because he was so thorough in explaining, as he could see I appreciated understanding my a condition.
I enjoyed the conversation, Dr. Segler is nice guy, knowledgeable, and helps you understand the causal mechanisms so you can get involved healing yourself.
It is a bit early to say whether his program will help me (I just started 3 days ago), but I have more confidence in him than I have had in my previous 3 orthopedists. His advice is not generic.

I don’t really do Unilocal reviews but I needed to say some good things about Dr. Segler. First off, I’m a rock climber and as you know if you are too I have foot torture issues. Every doctor I have spoken with had no idea what my problems were nor how to help me with them. Dr. Segler is a climber and all around active outdoorsy person. He was aware of my struggles before I finished my sentence AND had experience with solutions! What a relief, getting a doc that knew what I needed. He showed up (to my house!) on time, took time to get to know me, and the procedure was a cake walk for him and me. I really enjoyed the time we had while he was fixing me all up.

Dr. Segler is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable Doctors I have ever encountered. He comes to your house, which is an amazing change from sitting in a doctors office for an hour before speaking to another human being. He takes the time to explain what your problem may be. If you have any pediatric problems I highly recommend Dr Segler for a higher standard of care!

I met Christopher at the top of Alpine dam with friends on a long bike ride, and I learned this triathlete/​ironman/​cyclist was also a podiatrist. I’ve been suffering from what you might call «hot foot» and called Chris for a diagnosis. He made a house call, and spent more than one hour (we would have talked longer if not for my own schedule restraint) and he checked out all my gear – running and cycling shoes, inserts, etc. He made a really helpful diagram of my foot, and based on his diagnosis, I now understand my pain and have a roadmap to some solutions. I feel empowered and hopeful!
I would recommend Christopher to anyone suffering from foot pain, but especially athletes since this is his specialty and he will suggest an approach that will get you back out there.

I wish there was more stars to award. I can not say enough about Dr Segler and his personalized service! He throughly explained my condition, options and the procedure. He has a warm and friendly bedside manner. Really listened and engaged– taking the time to know me beyond what a typical doctor does.
He was on time, scheduling was easy and bottom line his treatment was perfect.
Got a foot problem, then give him a call– you won’t be disappointed! Imagine a doctor you can talk to, explains everything and makes house calls– priceless!

I just had the most AMAZING experience… a Dr that makes House Calls… came to my house to treat my feet probs… and was so nice about it, explaining everthing to me, what a great Dr, wish more Drs were like him

I had to have foot surgery with very little notice — a week before Christmas 2012 when everyone was trying to squeeze in at the end of the year for insurance and tax purposes. I had a previous surgery and the metal plate that was inserted to hold my broken bone together had to come out immediately because it held infection that went into the bone. For the first time … I turned to Unilocal to find a doc, and Dr. Chris has amazing reviews here. I called him and he picked up the phone; what a shock that was. He came to my house (!!!) two days later, but the surgery center he uses was booked … however they had a last minute cancellation and Dr. Chris made sure I got that time on 12÷28÷12. I have many more details, and I plan to update this, but I will say that Dr. Chris is everything everyone wrote here (read the filtered reviews — he’s just too good) … and more. As I write this I am walking and better. Thanks Doc.

Dr. Segler is a nationally recognized expert of podiatry, at the forefront of knowledge in his field. A prolific writer and sought after lecturer, he makes house calls, bringing that knowledge and expertise — and state of the art equipment — into your home to treat your foot ailments!
With a simple procedure, he rid me of the ingrown toenails that had tortured me for years, following up to be certain they healed and were growing back properly. One of those nails was also infected with a toenail fungus. After thoroughly educating me on all the alternatives, I selected a method of cure.
Two years later, I discovered another infected toenail and he returned with a laser treatment. updated research and a strategy to mitigate the risk of the fungus returning.
I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Dr. Segler deserves 5 stars because he:
* takes his time to explain the situation to you, and wants you to understand what is going on. This is quite unusual based on my experience. Most doctors would tell you what their diagnosis is, and ask for the nearest Walgreens to send your prescription.
* asks you what you think is going on, before he gives his opinion. This saves a lot of time if you read his informative website.
* draws good stuff on paper to explain what’s going on, easier to understand.
* comes to your house or office.
* makes himself available on different online platforms, so it is easier to get in touch with him.
* is an athlete. If he tells you to stop running/​biking, he means it. He will make sure to get back you on track as safe as possible.
* is like one of your friends from long time ago who ended up as a doctor.
* his fee is very reasonable for the service you get.

I have to admit I was quite worried when Christopher was coming. I had an ingrown toenail and I’m a huge wuss with needles. He came to my house, anesthetized my toe, cut the nail and helped my from fainting in fear. My friend was also in town and he gave him advice on his runner’s feet, free of charge. He was very professional, knowledgeable and timely. I strongly recommend Christopher to anyone in need.
