Double Team Coffee

My bf and I woke up at 7am and hiked up the hill for breakfast after checking all the good Unilocal reviews. We knew we couldn’t leave S. F without checking this place out first. I’m bummed I didn’t get to visit this place everyday during my visit to S.F. Jacky is seriously the nicest and most easy going guy ever. Every local that came into this place had a story about Jacky and how long they’ve been friends with him. It was so refreshing to come across someone that’s extremely sincere.
There’s a decent & selective menu here, but honestly Jacky can accommodate whatever you’d like as long as you tell him. This place definitely brews a strong cup of coffee! None of that weak stuff! Loved that Jacky took his time to make the breakfast sandwiches PERFECT. The prices are really good for the service and food.

This place is a hole in the wall in Nob Hill but it has the best service you can possibly imagine for a small place. The good is very selective but just right and presentation is just incredible for the price! It has free 802.11 (WiFi) and the owners are perfectly comfortable with you spending your work day there. In fact when then sun was hitting my laptop a lot the folks there went out of their way to go *buy* a net and extend the shade down!
Service and presentation are key here.

My husband and I tried this place on a recent trip to SF because it was close to our hotel and had great reviews here on Unilocal.We had the breakfast sandwiches and they were delicious! I’m not usually a fan of the fried egg, but this one was cooked perfectly and paired with bacon and a buttery croissant it couldn’t have been any better.
The man behind the counter was very friendly and has apparently just taken over the business. His name was Jacky Ly and the business card he handed us had the business name listed as «Fresh Brew Coffee» rather than Double Team Coffee, so maybe he’s changing the name?
Anyway, we were please with the food and the service. Would definitely return if we’re ever back in SF.

I tried out this place way too late. In less than two months, I’ll be moving out of California and I’ll be leaving my heart with Jacky. Unfortunately, I only recently started coming to this place which is a total bummer since it’s literally right around the corner from my apartment.
The coffee is solid — not green, not burnt — just awesome. I’ve had the breakfast sandwiches, turkey sandwich, and his combo Vietnamese sandwich — all really tasty and made with love. But what makes this place amazing and a five star experience, is the man behind the counter — Jacky! He is a one man show who does wonders on his George Foreman-​like grill. He’s super friendly, chatty, and peps up my mornings without fail. I’ll miss him when I leave!

The man who served us (don’t know if he’s the famous Joseph or not) was plenty polite and friendly. However, the food was mediocre at best. I got the sausage, egg and cheese muffin sandwich and something in it was so seasoned that I could hardly eat it. My hot chocolate was more like hot milk. The boyfriend got a Cajun chicken wrap that was all right.
I’m surprised to see all the rave reviews of this place. I guess it’s all about the camaraderie, and as just another tourist in an otherwise empty coffee shop, I guess I missed out on that bit.

Double Team Coffee isn’t labeled as such on the sign so I almost missed it. Look for the address. Yum.
This place is just around the corner from the hotel where we are staying this weekend, so I relied on the reviews here and popped in.
I had a ham, egg and cheese croissant, which was awesome! The eggs were cooked almost to over-​medium, and coupled with the gooey cheese, this was heaven on a plate. The tasty innards are perfect foils for the just-​crunchy toasted croissant which holds it all together.
The owner is indeed very friendly, and proudly accepted my compliments on the delicious breakfast.
Vietnamese sandwiches are also available, and if time permits before we head out of town, I’m going to give those a try too.
The house coffee is also excellent.
What a perfect way to start a Sunday morning.

Thanks Unilocal for helping us find this magical breakfast sandwich place while on vacay. Joseph was the nicest, most down to earth person we encountered during our entire visit to SF (which I know doesn’t say much, but still!). He was so pleasant !
Our breakfast sandwiches (mine: everything bagel, fried egg over hard/​yolk broken, cheese, bacon; his: croissant, fried egg, cheese, sausage) were both so perfect. So much love went into those sandwiches. On his shady seeming grill and microwave setup he can really create magic. The Café mochas were really damn good too! .85 for water! This place was actually worth the 15 minute hike on a miserable hill.

Oh my gosh, thank you Asuka Ramen for being closed for the mid day slump! I was almost gonna curse the sky and shake my fist for not getting an opportunity to eat my precious ramen on this cloudy dismal San Francisco afternoon but it lead me to this awesome little treasure across the street.
$ 3.99 for a sandwich of your choice with fresh vegetables and the warmest greeting ever! I walked in, absolutely grumpy, starving and extremely irritable from the disappointment of not having hot ramen and soup but the excited and cheerful, «Hello!» immediately shook the grouch right out of me. I felt almost guilty for bringing my less than cheery disposition in this man’s shop and immediately gave myself an imaginary slap to the back of the head.
I ordered a small mocha off their extensive menu along with a veggie sandwich. I found the mocha to be warm, creamy and juuuuuuuust right. If I were the Goldilocks of coffee, this would be the baby bear of coffee and I wouldn’t be guilty about being found in bed with one of their sandwiches either.
The veggie sandwich was fresh, flavorful, filled with sundried tomatoes, chock full of avocado and had just the right amount of vinaigrette and onions. I’m not normally a big fan of veggie sandwiches from other sandwich places because a whole lot of bean sprouts not a veggie sandwich make. But this guy even made sure there was no mayonnaise keeping true to the ultra vegetarian standard which was pretty impressive. I give this place 2 thumbs up or 5 stars in Unilocal language.
The menu was extensive with their sandwiches, bagels, pastries, and coffee drinks. The prices were crazy cheap and almost a steal for the quality of food I received and the smile and whimsical care I received when I couldn’t put a lid on my own coffee was just too much. I’d definitely be a regular if I were in the neighborhood more often.

Double Team Café: the best place to live around the corner from.
This is the place to go if you want a good cheap bite to eat from the nicest man ever. Joseph is so friendly and cute, he has all sorts of funny stock phases that he’ll use like «luckkkkkyy penny!» or «Verrrry good!» He always knows what I want and and makes it with pleasure. Even when I move, I will come back to visit him.

Joe is the friendliest guy in Nob HIll, and offers my dog a coffee each time I come in. We’ve never taken him up on it, of course ;)
No one talks about the wraps! The wraps are delicious, large, dense, and very fairly priced. Joe *loves* making them spicy if you ask — my favorite is the roast beef and horseradish. I just finished one right now.
My *first* visit to DT, I didn’t have enough cash for a wrap — he made it for me anyway and took what I had. You could attribute that to the economy if you must, but I don’t think that’s why he did it.
Places like this do not exist anymore, so I’m glad to have Double Team so close.

This place is great for a quick inexpensive nice breakfast. Joesph is really nice, and it was fun sitting at the little table by the front window.
I live in San Diego, we were in town for my Husband’s work. I used my phone & Unilocal to find someplace to eat breakfast.
I got a sesame bagel and a coke. What a simple breakfast, I know, but it was perfect. I recommend this place! Really!

Just here for a day on business, and staying in a hotel nearby. Did a search for nearby coffee shops, and Double Team floated to the top of the list.
The place itself — small (3 tables inside), nothing too notable. Except the soccer posters on the wall (we’ll come back to that below).
The food was pretty good (not 5 stars to me, but good) — had an egg and cheese on french roll — and the coffee was way better than average. Not only that, but they have a real espresso machine, something you may not guess from the façade.
But the highlight, as everybody else has said, was Joe, working behind the counter. While I sat there, he talked to EVERYBODY who came in – he knew most of them by name, and those he didn’t he definitely knew by the time they left. With people from out of town, the conversation was about wherever they were from, and for the regulars, it was the usual smalltalk.
So finally it was my turn to pay, having sat there anonymously for about 15 minutes eating and taking in the scene. As a soccer fan, I asked why there were several posters and pictures of Ajax, a Dutch soccer team, on the wall. Now that we were friends, Joe told me all about how soccer was so big in Hong Kong, where he’s from, and that this was his favorite team. He went under the counter and took out a bag of Ajax memorabilia, showed me photos and postcards, and gave me an Ajax sticker! I don’t meet many people that like that.
So, bottom line — if I lived here, I’d be in there all the time for coffee and a chat with Joe.

I like the customer service here. The owner is very nice and recognizes his regular customers. I came here for a cup of coffee and breakfast with a friend for the first time and he immediately knew we weren’t from there. He made small conversations and asked us where we were from. It’s a nice downhill walk to here from the Fairmont Hotel. It’s not in a hectic area.
My friend asked to substitute soy for milk in her coffee and he gladly did it without charging, unlike some places. If you like great service with a smile, then this is the place for you. As for the food, it tastes just like any other place. Nothing special really. I rather come here for coffee than Starbucks though.

I love Double Team Coffee because it’s a true neighborhood spot. I’m lucky enough to live only a few steps away.
Joseph treats his customers well and they in turn become his regular customers. Every time I go in, there’s always regulars in there for coffee or a bite to eat.
I usually stop by for the grilled chicken wraps, which are so tasty, sometimes I get an extra one for the road, just in case I get hungry later.

i dont normally give this many stars… but damn. Joseph knows how to pour a badass shot of espresso. what more could you ask for than a cute little asian dude yelling «strooooooong coooofffe» while he’s completely jacked out his head on his product. (at least i hope he is… if he was like that normally, i’d be scared)
bacon, egg, and cheese… plus some potatoes on the side. fucking priceless. the rest of the menu isn’t bad either… actually it all rocks.
did i mention the the coffee is damn good? best coffee shop atmosphere i’ve ever experienced in SF. It’s like having breakfeast with your entire dysfunctional family… in a good way.
shit, if i could give 6 stars. i would. joseph is truly an sf jem. i’d let him double team with me any day… as long as he gave me as much caffeine as he ingested so i can keep up.

So, I read all these reviews about how Double Team has the best breakfast sandwiches ever. And I was like, I’m sure they’re good, but how can a breakfast sandwich be extraordinary? Bread, egg, optional cheese, optional meat. Good, but never great.
I’m wrong. These breakfast sandwiches are truly great. My favorite is egg on rye, no cheese, no meat. The bread is perfectly toasted. The egg is perfectly cooked — just a tiny bit runny in the middle. Perfectly salted, fresh ground pepper. The perfect amount of butter. The sandwich is served very hot, so it stays hot enough (because cold egg? Ew.)
So yes, Double Team has the best most perfect most wonderful breakfast sandwiches ever. Along with friendly, quick service, and good coffee, this place definitely rates 5 stars.

Double Team is great. Super friendly service and fast, tasty breakfast at good prices. The bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a french roll is the one. The bread is toasty and soft and the egg is done just enough so that it doesn’t goo out the sides when bitten. In my opinion it’s a bit light on bacon, but if I had it my way he’d put a full pound of bacon into each sandwich.
The place seems like a community hub. While I was there about four people passed through, knew each other and shared neighborhood tid bits.
Double Team isn’t fancy, especially compared to Café Prima Fila across the street. But what its plastic patio chairs lack in flair, Double Team makes up with friendly people.

I lived around the corner from here for years but only stopped by occasionally. Now that I moved away I actually miss it. :(The proprietor is just as nice as all these reviewers make him out to be, and the coffee is super tasty. They’re very small but since most customers just pop in and head out, if I want a seat I can always get it.

Seriously boys and girls, Joseph is amazing!!! As soon as you walk in through the door you are greeted with a huge smile and an over-​excited, «Hello, how are you!!!»
It’s pretty amazing.
Not only is Joseph an incredible delight, the coffee is great, and the Egg and Cheese on Asiago Bagels are SOOooooo effing good!
He also has little stamp cards so your tenth coffee is a free one…
Yayyy!!!
Go there at least once, I’ll be astonished if you have a bad experience.
