Grogan Kirk A, DPM

Not so much. I went to see Kirk about a year ago with a swollen left ankle and top of my foot and an equally painful right toe. I was limping by this point. His medical recommendation was to ice my toe and not tie my shoe laces so tightly. He actually showed me how to tie shoelaces loosely. Well I tried both of those cutting edge medical procedures and now i am really limping and looking for another podiatrist.

I cannot believe what an amazing doctor this guy is. If you need a great podiatrist who knows what he is doing, spends the time to solve ALL issues and answer ALL questions, this is your guy. Even the receptionist is top notch!

I have never EVER met a more caring & astute doctor in my 59 years!!! He is truly the foot whisperer as someone on Unilocal called him & yes, as someone else said, I wish he could be my doctor for everything. He doesn’t have the «I am God» attitude as so many doctors have. Yes, I am saying things that other people have said, but they’re true & I thought of them first:)

Dr. Kirk Grogan is wonderful! He is the best podiatrist I’ve ever had. He is the gold standard for being a physician. Highly personable, friendly, professional and a joy at all office visits. I highly recommend Dr. Grogan.

I’ve never looked forward to seeing my podiatrist before but Dr. Grogan is so wonderful that he not only resolved my problem, he made an uncomfortable medical situation pleasant. His bedside manner rocks and his abilities as a physician are well above par. Highly recommended.

Helpful, efficient, good bedside manner. Feel like I wasn’t exactly sure what I should do as next steps following my appointment, but felt like I had a thorough exam.

Dr. Grogan was more than happy to be my second opinion when I was considering a bunionectomy; his detailed yet easy-​to-​understand explanations of what was going on with my foot, what could be done and his sense of humor were all extremely comforting and informative. He had nothing but great things to say about my surgeon and helped me make what I feel was a great decision. Surgery is never a fun option but thanks to him I feel 1000% okay with it :)

I’ve had great experiences working with Kirk Grogan, and would highly recommend him to anyone who’s in need of seeing a Podiatrist. He’s very helpful, with a great «bedside manner,» and really seems to care about the patient, which is not common, unfortunately, with docs. This is only the second review I’ve ever left on Unilocal,and felt the need to because I thought he was so exceptional. In addition, his office is very competent and has always responded to me on a timely basis. That, as well, is also not always the case these days with doctor’s offices.

Dr. Grogan is great– I like how someone said he is the foot doctor whisperer. I don’t agree with the lowest rating here as I do think Dr. Grogan has great DPM skills. I have worked in an academic medical setting and have always had a keen sense of great care and understanding from a health care professional. I do believe Dr. Grogan not only is a great listener he knows his discipline well and for that I am glad to have found him. San Francisco is a great city to find some of the best of everything but in the health care arena it is extremely hard to find a good practitioner – even when you have insurance it can be less than optimum to find a very good practitioner.
I am very happy with Dr. Grogan’s services and would recommend him to my friends and family and here on Unilocallandia.

Yes, Dr. Grogan has a wonderfully friendly bedside manner, however, in my case anyway, his skill as a doctor isn’t nearly as well-​honed.
I saw Kirk (as he will tell you to call him) in January 2012 for a painful bunion. I told him that I also have erosive osteoarthritis in other joints throughout my body. He said that he could «see that it’s a bunion» so he didn’t order an xray. He shaved off the calluses caused by the bunion, fit me for an orthotic, which he said would keep the bunion from getting worse. Finally, Kirk indicated that I would get the same result if I waited another 10 years to have surgery to correct the bunion. When I left his office, I felt confident that I was accurately diagnosed and treated, though disappointed that there was apparently no treatment to ease my pain.
And then I received the EOB from my insurer. Kirk billed for a «gait analysis» that he didn’t perform. (I was already seated in the exam chair when he entered the room, and was still sitting there when he left. In other words, he didn’t see me walk.) I originally thought that it was just an oversight, but after my boyfriend consulted Kirk for a completely different foot problem, the same thing occurred: He billed insurance for gait analysis that was never performed.
If the insurance fraud were my only issue with Kirk, I wouldn’t bother with this review. After walking around for another 9 months on an increasingly painful foot, I got a second opinion at UCSF Foot and Ankle Center. As is the standard of care for bunion, they ordered an xray and found that, lo and behold, I have severe joint degeneration in the first metatarsal (just below the bunion). I’ve basically been walking around on a broken foot for the last nine months. All because Kirk thinks he can diagnose bone conditions with his xray vision. I’m now scheduled to have surgery to correct the bunion, the eroded metatarsal, and a degenerated joint in my third toe, which Kirk also missed diagnosing.
So, to recap, my complaints are: 1) Two instances of insurance fraud; and 2) Failure to diagnose and treat a serious and painful condition.

First of all, Dr Grogan is a foot whisperer.
But he also gets an A+ for bedside (footside! har!) manner. He listens to your story and then provides informed instruction, and I always leave there with clear marching orders and thinking «that was productive» and «I believe him/​trust his advice» which you don’t always feel coming out of a doctor’s office.
I wish he was a doctor of everything; I find myself trying to recommend him to others for non-​foot injuries before realizing that won’t really work.
He’s just great. Go to him.

Dr. Grogan was my happy 2^nd-​opinion for a chronic ankle condition. The first doctor (down the hall, actually), just gave a quick glance at MRI and gave choice of some pills or a cortisone shot. Dr. Grogan asked thorough questions, and did a much more thorough physical exam — pinpointing the issue and prescribing physical therapy which is proving effective.
He listens, he explains, he analyzes. And he’s got a relaxing, easy disposition.
Definitely worth all the Unilocal praise.

Dr Grogan and his staff provide excellent foot care be it for skin problems (like the athlete’s foot I had last week,) or the structural intervention requiring him to adjust my previous DPM’s orthotics last year. In addition to great courteous service, Dr. Grogan has a kind, engaging personality and perhaps a touch of a Southern accent.

Very kind and patient. You’ll note that I’m an infrequent Unilocaler, but I just had to do this review. Most of us are apprehensive when we see doctors. They’re intimidating and sometimes scary, but Dr. Grogan is neither of these things. He’s, dare I say it, charming. Thanks, doc!
